Hey everyone, it's Julie. Welcome back to Million Dollar Grit. Today I want to talk about this daily sales activities and why doing this is so important in your online business. And if you didn't listen to my last episode where I talked about, you.
Don'T need a new offer, you need.
A new nervous system. I pointed out the differences between a long game and a short game. And my book, Million Dollar Grit, which is due to launch October 26, really talks about the short game that I played for quite a long time and the daily sales activities that are important to do, especially if you are selling anything that is high ticket. So if you're a quora gosh, a coach, a consultant, or a service based business, daily sales activities need to be daily. And I know that ads and automated income and passive income and people coming from, you know, places far on the Internet and finding you and then buying from you is like chef's kiss. We love that. And it's funny because clients will say, oh yeah, I got this client, but you know, it's a friend of a friend, so it doesn't really count. I'm like, what do you mean it doesn't count? You know, and we tend to poo poo our in person relationships, our local network, the, the people that we have around us because somehow that's not as legit as someone clicking on an ad and then, you know, having no ide idea who you are and then getting on the phone with you and then purchasing. And as cool as that is, the sales activities that, that you do in your existing sphere, in your existing network are not only getting you cash now and today, but it's also building that foundation so that when you start doing those automated sales, you're more likely to get people to trust you because you have some, some testimonials. You have people who've already worked with you, you have, you know, that whole six degrees of separation thing where it's like the chances of someone knowing someone who has worked with you get bigger and stronger over time. And there's a tipping point when you spend time on daily sales activities where the number of people that know you exist hit a critical threshold that the chance of you Getting just random people in your inbox being like, hey, I saw an ad or hey, so and so recommended you starts to just happen. And for me, you know, I've been at this game for basically a decade, 11 years at this point. And I consistently show up on social media, I consistently email my list, produce podcasts, you know, I'm visible and with very little marketing. And I have spent $0 on ads since 2018. For me personally as a coach, I have maintained basically a seven figure business. And that is largely in part to the relationship building and daily sales activities I did for so many years. Also, it helps that, you know, Funnel Gorgeous does run ads. And you know, I had my, my run in with clickfunnels for a year and a half. That got me a lot of visibility and things like that. So I'm not saying, oh, it's, you know, it's just so easy. But I want to talk about daily activities, daily sales activities, because they are easy to overlook, they are easy to push down and say, I'll do that tomorrow. And they definitely aren't as sexy as Facebook ads and automated sales, but this is how you're going to get the cash coming in the door. So I want you to think about daily sales activities in an online business. A little bit like door to door sales, which may make the hair on your neck stand up. But let's just stop and think for a second about someone who sells, I don't know, pest control or solar, right? They go on a particular street and they physically knock on doors to see if anyone is interested. Even if you are the person, which I am, that always says no, no, no, no, no. Except actually I didn't say no when the pest control people came to my door. I said, heck yes, please. You know, it was like, right moment, right time, and I had the pain. Have you stopped to think about why they do it? Even if it's annoying, they wouldn't do it if it didn't work. Okay? So as much as you may feel uncomfortable with reaching out to people in your network or drumming up, you know, new relationships or making asks, it's going to work. But you need to understand that there is math involved. You can't talk to five people and expect to get five clients. It's more like 150 people equals five clients. And these door to door salesmen know this. They know if I go in a neighborhood and I knock on, you know, 30 or 40 doors, I might get one person to say yes. And that is not like, oh, they failed. That's oh, that's math. That's what we call people math.
Right?
The number statistic, the statistical probability that someone is going to say yes. Okay, so the daily sales activities have three prime purposes. The first purpose is to get more people to know you exist every single day. The second goal is to help people feel more connected to you over time. And the third goal is to ask directly for the sale, the introduction, when the opportunity presents itself. And it will, if you are doing the first and second purposes. Well. Okay, so what is door to door sales when we look at it through the lens of online business? Okay, so if we start with the first purpose, which is get more people to know that you exist. The places that you can do these kinds of activities are things like Facebook groups in the comments of social media, posts that are going viral in private DMs, in paid masterminds and paid communities that you join in interviews, summits, free talks, whether it's on podcasts or in some sort of group, in person events, conferences, local groups, meetups, introductions from past clients, or even targeted Dream 100 where you pick someone to, you know, purposefully get to know. So that's how you do purpose number one. Get more people to know you exist each day. Okay, and so what can you, what can you do in all of those places?
Right?
You can comment on things, you can engage with people on social media, you can send DMS to people, you can post helpful content, you can attend group calls, you can offer to speak for free, pitch yourself on podcast or summit, invite someone to be on your podcast.
Right?
Things like that. Go to conferences, you know, follow up with attendees that you've met, introduce yourself, DM attendees beforehand. If you're like in a Facebook group together, reach out to old clients, see how they're doing, ask for introductions, those types of things. And so it's important to kind of keep track, right? You should track what you're doing and keep a running list of who you're engaging with and why, because you'll start to be better able to notice, oh, look this, I did this and now look, I have a discovery call. Okay? And you may not quite be able to trace like, oh, that comment led to that discovery call, but you might. But the goal is like, oh, I spent 15 minutes getting more people to know I exist and now I have one discovery call. You can sort of do that mental math. All right? The second purpose is to get people to feel more connected to you over time. So those are things like what we call digging your well, comment on their Stuff, leave reviews, send helpful resources, interview them, make introductions for them, put out great content, be consistently available. It's like basically how to Win Friends and influence People 101. But in the online space, that's what we want to do. We want to, you know, we want to give generously to the people that we're trying to grow a relationship with. And obviously you don't want to do this with every Tom, Dick and Harry that you come across. But this is why, you know, a book like Rich Relationships that Selena sue wrote helps you narrow in on who those people are that you want to get to know, to give generously to. Because those people have not only they will benefit from you being in their lives, but you'll benefit from being in their lives as well. So those are the kinds of things that you want to do for purpose number two. And purpose number three is to ask directly for the sale when the opportunity presents itself. So this is the hard part. It's the ask. But it will feel so much easier if you're doing number one and number two consistently. Because if you can give before you ask, then you will be in a much better position and prepare for no, right? No is part of the game. In fact, I was doing a call the other day with the certified marketers in FG Society and one of them said, you know, I really need help on a presentation because I started this whole sticker chart on my wall here and the goal was to get a sticker every time I got rejected. And. Except I'm asking and I'm not getting rejected. So now I can't put stickers on the wall and now I have to speak. And I thought that was hilarious. It's, you know, this idea of like collecting rejections as awards. It's reframing the brain to say, hey, you may be getting no's, but that means that you're out there and that's the actual win. Except in his case, he was trying to get himself out there and then was getting yeses. He couldn't fill up his sticker chart and he was kind of panicking a little bit that, you know, now he had a presentation to do. But I mean, what a great problem to have, right? So if you are in the position that I spoke about in the last episode about that short term game versus long term game, and you need money and you are a coach, a consultant, a service provider, these are the activities that you're going to do every single day. And I do understand that they will often feel useless, especially if you hate social media. You'll just be like, this is. This is pointless. However, with a good book like Rich Relationships from Selena sue, which helps you be intentional, intentionable. My Lord, why can't I talk today? Intentional. About who you're investing in. This is going to bring business, but you have to do the ask eventually, okay? Because there are people who do a great job at this. They. They show up every day, they're consistent, they build connection, but then they never make the ask. And that's really important. But these are the daily sales activities that will get you clients. So just take one of the ideas and do it consistently, day in and day out. Make it an easy, achievable habit, and you will start to see the number of people who know you exist, who reach out, grow over time. And that's how you grow an online business with daily sales activities. So hopefully that was helpful. As always, I really appreciate it. When you leave reviews on this podcast, let me know on Instagram and I'll talk to you soon. And there you have it, folks.
