10,000 Pounds of Soil added to our Raised Beds (in a day)

In this vlog, Victor Justin Rhodes and his co‑host guide a group of family members and volunteers through a full day of intensive farm work. They start by expanding and improving their raised‑bed system, installing a hugelkultur base, positioning 2×4 supports, mounting trellises, and planning for a cattle‑panel fence. After measuring and cutting, they fill the beds with a massive amount of garden soil—approximately 10,000 lb—in a single day, coordinating the effort among the helpers. Mid‑day they troubleshoot an electric fence that powers a calf corral, diagnosing grounding and wiring issues and restoring power. The hosts also tend to newborn chicks, demonstrating a low‑heat lamp setup that mimics a mother hen. Throughout the day, the hosts interact playfully with children, assign chores, and keep morale high. The video concludes with a promotional segment for the “Do‑It‑Yourself Abundance Memory Spring” program, offering a webinar and membership that teaches a 58‑day meat‑chicken production system and provides detailed raised‑bed plans, with a registration deadline of April 15. The tone is instructional, hands‑on, and family‑oriented, blending practical farm work with a sales pitch for the online course.

It works. You win some, you lose some, and some are rained out. Hopefully we're gonna have another winning day. Let me show you what we got to do. You keeping them busy, Jonah? More volunteers today. Who is everybody?
What's your name?
I'm Gabriel. I'm Benjamin.
Kendra. I'm Brian. My name's Caleb.
Isaiah.
We got plenty of help. Come on, Mr. Brown. Those— because some— half of them are going with Jonah to do chores, the other half with me to set up— wait for it, wait for it— how can these raised beds get even better? They can. How about a trellis over this? The problem is we need to mount the 2x4s into this wood going down, and we, we buried— we started with our hugelkultur layer. I couldn't resist. We had so much help yesterday. So we're gonna have to do is move just a little bit where we need to put our 2x4s and go ahead and put our 2x4 supports. We're going to put in the cattle panel later, and once we do that, we're doing really good. We can take advantage of all these people again and start filling it up with our garden soil.
So does the wood act— keep it from moving or shifting, or is it— what's the wood for?
This wood?
No, the wood inside.
Oh, that's a hugelkultur system. So that's just at the bottom to eventually break down and be more organic matter. And it also, as it rots, it will put off some heat and be a little microclimate in here. Okay. This is one of those things where I have to get this one started so that everybody else will have something to do. So there's a little bit of pressure here. Let's make sure this is 49. So we want the ends to sit right in the middle of our 2x4s, so we'll U-nail them in place. Thank you, Brian. Look at that, Brian, he's a keeper. I'm glad I measured it, guys, because it's 50. We got to go rework our math. I guess I've learned enough. You measure twice, cut once. Y'all heard that rule, right? Uh-oh. Here, I only see— only see 4 pieces of plywood here. That's 4. Shoot. Well, that's enough to get us started, but we want to cover all these today. Yeah, that's enough to do 1, 2, 3, 4. One bed, one, one trellis. But we need 4 more. We really do. Right here, I think so. And just get it out of your way. If you come across a log, it's probably going to be better to use your hands. Okay, this one's almost clear, guys. It's not— it's not gonna be that hard. Oh, he's not afraid. He's grabbing it with his hands. Just go to the bottom of that board, scrape along the board, because you might already be at the bottom. Who knows? Okay. Yeah, how are they doing on feed?
Uh, good. Okay, really good.
Let's do it. They have feed left. No snakes or bobcats or, or Sasquatches get them last night? No.
Is that a smoke alarm?
That is a smoke alarm, thank goodness. But our hovers are coming today, hopefully. Isaiah, and come this way. We'll get some more, uh, 2x4s. Rebecca did get some yesterday. I forgot about that. This isn't where I told Josiah to put them, but we'll take it. That's why I didn't find them. Okay. Oh, y'all are getting it. Y'all get the idea. So what we'll do here, guys, that is going a little lower than the wood, so we'll lift it up.
Is that on our mark?
So we'll put this at the center of our mark, and that way when we attach the cattle panel, we'll be nailing it right to the middle. You get it? Yes, sir. All right, now listen, level. Look, Jonah, you're gonna have to be the boss. Try not to spill it. Look, Jonah, come here. Jonah, fill it up to there, not to the top of the box. Okay, okay, these guys just took over. Capable family here. Okay, we've got two trellises up. We're gonna do two more, one here and one there. Okay, we got a little bit in each one. Good job, guys. If you want, you can take a break and watch the show bringing the cows in. Oh, did we turn our fence off, guys? Okay, the fence was on. We're about to go get the cows, calves. And yesterday we put the calves in an on-field corral fence, but there's only one calf in here. It is, it is hooked up, it is hooked up to electricity. Nelly got out. It's okay, it's okay, honey. We separate the calves at night to store up milk, and then the calves have mama all day. Good thing about this is we train them on the halter. Mom will follow this baby wherever we go. It's a good thing I'm practicing the halter training. Look how stubborn she's being, doing the Jersey flop. Come on. We are bringing Phyllis in just in case she's got some milk. Maybe Nellie hadn't nursed her in a long time. Flossy hasn't given us much, half, half of what she's been giving. So I'm wondering if somehow maybe the fence wasn't on out there and the calf stuck her head through. Okay, give me that bucket over here please. Yeah, there's barely anything in here.
You're gonna let them try to milk Papa? Yeah, too little.
We got maybe 2 sips. That chick just sit up there, wasn't it? Yeah, don't let it fall. All right, let's turn it back on. We're gonna see if this— there, let's see if it's hot right here. Well, that's our problem, guys. Fence isn't working. Was that running through there?
I'm gonna take it out and see.
All right, turn it on now.
Ready?
Yeah, let's see if it's our Energizer. Okay, it's not our Energizer, so you're right. Okay, hook that up. Was it not running through?
It was.
Okay, and then let's just twist it around just to make sure. And then, was this tight?
Uh, not really.
Okay, that might have been it. It's too loose. Now try it, Jonah. We've tightened this up, redid that. Okay, you ready? Okay, try it, guys. You're still not doing it, huh? Okay, now, and is our light beeping? Yeah. Okay, let's try it right here at the source. Oh, it could be the cord. What we can do, Jonah, it might be this patch repair. That's full on. It's not that. Then you know what that's telling me? If this, if this is hot, it's this fence. There's something, there's something grounding out this fence. Completely. Okay, we've gotten all the possibilities this way. Let's see if that did it. There, it's full speed ahead now. Whatever, it must have been something through there, guys. Was that down in the creek? Because that would do it.
Well, it was just the ground in a lot of spots.
Okay, it's hitting now. They wouldn't mess it now, so we'll keep trying that. I am completely impressed at how much these guys have gotten have gotten done a lot further than I thought we would get today, so that's good. Hopefully we have— we're gonna have enough soil. I don't think we are, but maybe it'll be close. There's gonna be enough, isn't there, Brian?
I think so.
Josiah, thank you for raking that. Well, thank you guys for your help today. You guys are an amazing help. Thank you. I hope you had a good time. We did! Look what arrived. Premier 1 Goods. All right, there it is. Hopefully there's not much assembly. All right, let's go try it. I'm hopeful for this thing because it's, it's going to mimic mama hen and it's no hot light. Those things can be dangerous.
You want me to keep it like that?
Do it all? No, do them, do them all. But they seem to be doing just fine, not getting near the— not even getting really near the heat lamps at all. Look to nature though. What does nature do? Well, chicks are out on grass, out and about, day one. So it's not like they have to constantly be in that 90 degrees.
That's a wrap. I hope you enjoyed that vlog. Now if you want to take it get further and actually live that vlog, I want to help you. So we're launching the Do-It-Yourself Abundance Memory Spring registration. How about I'll teach you how to raise a year's worth of chicken in 58 days? Meat chicken. Those little guys you see in the video, those are like 2 days old. We got like 56 days left. It's nothing. And each of those guys will be 4 pounds of meat in our freezer. It's absolutely crazy. So if you raised 75, lost a few, gave a few away for folks helping you process. You got 50. You eat one chicken a week.
Hey, buddy.
Can I build my vessel pool?
No, maybe later when I come outside with you.
Okay.
Papa?
Yes? Papa?
Yes?
Papa, can you— I want a rake.
Okay, we'll get you a rake.
Okay, I'll help that.
I'll help make that happen.
Okay. You and I are gonna go do chores this afternoon, okay?
Okay.
So if you did that, you'd have 50, 50 birds, one a week for a week. Now we eat a lot more than that, so we grow more, but I can teach you how to start there. I'll give you the plans for the meat shaw. Let's do a webinar this Sunday night at 8 PM for my members at any level. Anybody who gets in there, let's do a webinar Sunday night, 8 PM. Also, the raised beds. We did a video inside the member area on how to build those raised beds, and we put the plans there. So those are just two examples of hundreds of videos inside the member area. Go and check that out while spring registration is open. It closes April 15th at 10 PM.
You're silly.
He sees it. He sees him. Let me show you what's going on. He sees himself in the viewfinder there. Do you think that's fun to see yourself there?
Mm-hmm. Yeah?
You like to see your hand over the lens?
Mm-hmm.
Okay, you're funny.
Okay? You're a little rascal. Huh? You stole the show.
They weren't even paying attention to me anymore. Okay, so tell them since they're not going to listen to me anymore.
Say, we'll teach you how to raise chickens.
No.
Say, link is in the description.
No. Hey, you're not cooperating.
Well, what do you want to say to the people?
Nothing.
Okay, all right, he says no. Can you say bye?
Nope.
Boy, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I can't control it, I can't control it. I tried.
