Quick note at the top of this video, I apologize for the audio problems. The audio problems is sometimes the noise, the sound, only comes through one speaker. It varies from left to right. We thought it was the mic. We got a new mic. It wasn't the mic. So we're gonna have to get a camera. We couldn't go back and get all this again, that'd be ridiculous. So fair warning, I hope you enjoy the show. In today's vlog, we do all kinds of stuff. We set up cows for minerals. We show you the two essential minerals. If you could only have two minerals for the cows, This is something they desperately need, even in a grass-fed situation. Beauty and I have a romantic moment. We celebrate our love for each other. I know you super fans will like it. And then towards the end, make sure you stay on towards the end, it's probably why you're watching this video, I show you 2 ways to cut chicken costs up to 35%. Guys, our chickens are coming, so we gotta get ready. We begin that today.
Big day today. Had a lot of errands. It's, uh, 10 till 4. I've only got till 5. A lot to do. They've been over here. You can't probably see it, but there's temporary line right there, and we've been moving them every day up. They can come back and get their water We're gonna move them down here and they can go every day up. We need to run a line, a fence line up there. So I need 1, 2, 3, 4, let's say 5 posts and a handle there. And then we need a handle here so we can open this to get Stud Muffin through. There's no reason to bring him back, back and forth. What do you think, Christy? So cool. What are you doing? I was feeling for the baby and then it like kicked back like a baby would.
Oh wow.
Yeah, it like pushed.
You know how like they just kind of those little like kicks.
Papa, you want me to start running wire?
Yeah, thanks for helping me. Thanks, buddy. You're welcome. It's always funner with friends. Oh, here comes the love of my life. All right, Johnna, I reckon we need one more. There's too much sag in this line. Look at them. We started coming over here working on this fence. I doubt they were moved every day. I know they're stud muffin, what? Yeah, but it's like they know what to do. Well, there it is. I didn't, I didn't bring them all. Here, go put that up there where you think it's sagging.
Okay.
And Mom and I'll build the gates. Let's build gates because look, we went on the road to learn from folks, right?
Yeah.
Well, I called Dennis up. He said to separate our calves at night, we could put the calf, just the calf, in the stall. So the big guys can stay out on the pasture. Yeah. And then we don't, uh, so then we don't have to harvest all their manure every time unless we want to, right? So that's good news. And we only have to— you have to feed them all night, so we only have to feed the little calf hay all night and not all three of them. Why is that? Why am I telling you that?
I don't know.
Oh, because they won't necessarily— Studmuffin won't necessarily need to go in this lane. And I'm not gonna force some training on that yet.
So we need to make a gate right here.
Come on, guys. Look at them waiting on us. We have some minerals too. Violet's been licking the barn, eating leaves, and hunting down plantain and eating that, telling me she's deficient in some minerals.
So one of our mineral sleds is— it's like our old, old one that you guys made.
Really?
That was an old sled.
Does it actually have a container on top of it? I think it still has container in here. You can listen into it. Don't do it when it comes out though. I don't hear it. I found our problem, honey. We didn't connect that right yesterday. Or what? So we're just gonna bring this down to fill it up. Come here, honey, we got your water. Yeah, just pull it off to the side so she don't— there you go. Wow, they fill up the waterer. I'm gonna go set up the minerals.
Why are you getting the van down?
That's where the minerals are.
We just put in an order for more minerals, 6 essential minerals, but if you can only have 2 And these are all the ones that we can find, luckily, and they're most important ones— sea salt and kelp.
You said you found the old mineral sled?
A really old one. That was like when you had the Black Angus, Papa. This is like a— this is like your Black Angus mineral sled.
That's my first mineral sled there, folks.
You got a scoop?
Yep.
Okay, you put some kelp in that one. Okay, I'll get some salt.
See how it makes little holes?
Shoot, we're losing it all through the holes. Okay, bring it back up here. I guess my holes didn't work too good because the minerals were falling through it.
All right, let's just use some pans.
Wait, what's this?
Okay, let's just use some pans, um, and we'll just move them.
This is Just a temporary fix.
What? Why don't we stack this compost pile? Oh, I think it's done.
It's already composting. Look what I found on our scrub brush. Oh good, where was it? Leave all my stuff in the garage.
See, Mama, look, you can see how it's sinking in. Look, I know, maybe if we had smaller water holes it would be easier, but no time for that.
What do you think they're gonna eat? Kelp. It seems like they— that's what they usually go for first. I'm gonna say they're gonna go for the salt. Okay, you don't want to put it all the way in because then they can just kind of barely put it under the fence so they have to be careful. Otherwise they're going to tromple all over it. Oh yeah, yeah, you're right. Okay, fence is on.
One more thing to do, guys. One more thing to do. We got some chicken feed. The Birdman's getting more chickens.
Can you tell I'm excited? You know what, let's do— they're going to be under stress. They're coming from a different place to a new place.
Let's soak—
you got it— ferment our feed. I don't know if it'll ferment quite in time for them to get here, but at least it'll be soaked. Let's go. Here, you hold the camera.
Okay, I'm sorry, I can't lift that.
Put it on me.
It's on.
You want me to show you how it's done?
Yeah, I know you—
look, look back up a little bit. You go, you can push the lips a little bit. You gotta go put it on your shoulders, muscle man. Ready? Which hand are you, right or left?
Okay.
You got it?
I know.
Yes, look at that tough guy.
Okay, Jonah, let's get this feed set up. We got chicks coming on Saturday. I got a really quick and easy way to save 35% on chicken feed right off the bat. My organic expensive chicken feed, cut it 35%. So easy, it's less wasteful and it's actually good for them.
Yes, chicks.
Did I say chicks? Yeah, I didn't mean chicks, I meant chickens. Good, thanks. Adult chickens, they're coming Saturday. We're gonna make a special video on that. That's coming out on Monday. We're gonna get ready, save the feed. We're gonna get ready for chickens in one day to show you how easy it can be. We'll make a special video for that. That'll come out on Monday. Now back to our feeding. We're about to lose sunlight there, Jonah. We need 1.2 pounds of feed of food scraps a day. This is about I'd say there's about 3 or 4 pounds. That's not going to be any. If we take our grains and soak them, we should do that now. Jonah, can you— oh, we'll weigh that in a second. Okay, Jonah, let's get a day's worth of, uh, food in here.
How many pounds?
4 pounds. Let's get our scale now.
Put in water, I'd say about 4 inches over this. You know, before I put that up, I need to stir it. A wooden spoon would be perfect for this. Now, if you want to add a health benefit— fun fact, another health benefit— uh, let that soak for 3 days. You could have enough buckets where you keep it going. You have to let that soak for 3 days, it ferments. So the longer we soak, the better. So this one would have soaked, uh, for 2 days. Actually, both of these would have soaked for 2 days till our chickens get here, and then we only need to use one then. So the other one would have fermented, it'd have been 3 days.
Now if you like that part and you want to do this yourself, I go into the calculations, I go into the step-by-step process what we did and how you could do it for your own flock. It's so easy. We're just talking food scraps and just putting water on the feed. This is dead simple for 35% saving, guys. That is a lot, and I'm giving it to you for free. I got a special link down below. You can watch that video for free. Go check it out. I think I can leave it right there too. Yes, I can leave it right there. So it's right there down in the description. See you Monday with our special video on getting our chickens.
