2 Men + 3 Boys + ACE = Shopping SPREE

The video follows Victor Justin Rhodes, Pete, Jonah, and several younger helpers as they spend a day on a mixed‑use farm in the Appalachian region. The group starts by discussing and tasting home‑grown mangoes, comparing them to grocery‑store fruit and highlighting their superior flavor for Instagram content. They then head to Ace Hardware where Victor gives the kids a $20 shopping spree, buying tools, LED lights, a blower, trash bags, and other supplies while negotiating prices and preferences. After the hardware run, they return to the farm to plant over 100 sweet‑potato slips using an inventive "sheet mulch bomb" method with compostable paper plates, and they tend to various animals—free‑range cats, chickens, sheep, pigs, and a goose—while teaching Jonah and the others responsibility. Throughout, the dialogue is informal, humorous, and community‑focused, showcasing farm life, mentorship, and the blend of modern convenience with traditional homesteading.

Gavin, B Squad in the house. I like how you have all these B shirts.
That's our goal.
That's our goal today, Pete. What do you got going on? Good thing I got the sweet—
What do you got growing on?
Ninja master. Good thing I got the sweet potato ninja master right here.
Potatoman.com.
Now these are from So True Seeds, local seed company.
It's basically a cutting with roots.
It's a slip.
Have these grown some?
No, these were just yesterday.
Oh, okay, they just came.
So we just put them on water so they don't dry out. And we'll plant them today because it's gonna like rain for a week.
One of the most nutritious crops in the world right here.
I love them.
Because you can eat the leaves. I like the leaves. That's my favorite part.
What's going on your Instagram?
Yeah, we brought that lemon zest.
Your folks love the mango photos? Man, you know, they like the annuals, but they really like the tropical fruit.
That gets them excited.
Not just the folks. Me as well.
Oh, you like his photos of Mango? Your number one fan.
My number one fan's right here. You can see why.
Come on. Oh man, look at him dripping.
This is like butter.
Look, you're torturing them. Wait a minute, he's got to take a picture. How is it, Beast?
Good.
All right, just how you like the pit too? What is it you like about the pit?
I don't know.
You want me to cut that skin off for you?
Sure.
Oh, everybody's going to get a piece of these after, after I cut this last one and take a picture of my little breakfast display.
This is the tropical Instagram to follow right here. You can't even get away from it in North Carolina, man.
You gotta—
you're still taking this.
I gotta feed the Instagram family, man. These are some amazing mangoes.
You're keeping everybody happy.
If you guys have only had a grocery store mango Those are pretty much garbage. Like, once you've tried a real homegrown Florida mango, these are like butter. There is no fiber inside of them. You know, the ones in the grocery store, they're only grown for commercial production. They're picked green. This is like tree-ripened mango, like melt-in-your-mouth. The lemon zest and, uh, fruit punch variety. So I haven't even had fruit punch yet. I'm pretty excited.
This is fruit punch.
This is the fruit punch.
This is the lemon zest. So this is your stage for your photo?
I'm thinking, you know, we're gonna see what the background looks like here. I think we can do it if we can catch that portrait mode.
Oh yeah, it's sexy. Oh, wow. See? Huh?
Good job, farm life.
I'll send people to your Instagram to see that picture.
Thank you, sir.
I'll link it down. I'll link it down in the show notes. All right. You want a piece? What do you mean you don't want any? Huh?
I'll take a bite of his.
Okay, I'll get it. Hey, hang on. Are we gonna have a mango chant? Let's hear it. Mango man, go. Mango man, go.
Mango man, go. Man, go. Oh, come on, Pete, you gotta shut them up.
Hurry up with the mango. It's gonna be a riot.
Mango, mango, mango, mango, mango, mango, mango, mango, mango, mango, mango. How are you guys?
Yummy, yummy.
That's Lily's review.
Yummy, yummy, Delicious.
Delicious. Jonah's review. What's your review, Mr. Brown? Gone?
I can't drink the juice.
I can eat the mango.
Oh, you like that mango?
I don't like the mango that we get in the grocery store.
The one that gets stuck in your teeth?
That's the Tommy Atkins.
Yeah, see.
That's pretty lame.
I mean, that's all we get though.
My kids like eat it like—
That one's like butter, right?
Yeah, this is like way— Melts in your mouth?
We like any kind of—
She's got the lemon zest.
She's being extra. Uh-oh, Uncle Pete's truck.
Are there police in this?
I think we've been here before doing this. We're just not going to a permaculture site.
This is déjà vu. Yeah, this time it's not as glamorous. Not quite. It's raining outside. I got Mr. Organized over here though. I'm gonna take advantage. You saw what he did to my basement. Voluntarily.
I got bored.
And now he's got the hookup by telling— he's got a long list for me for things to get, like an electrical blower, a trash can.
Oh, you see we got the Brute Cans over here? I'm gonna help Mr. Rhodes spend some money over here.
Oh yeah, that's the biggest kind of fun, right? Spend somebody else's money? Yeah.
Huh?
I told you to give me the card.
He wouldn't let me go by myself.
I tried.
Oh, we don't trust you yet that much? No, not yet.
We're not that far in the relationship.
Not quite.
Not sharing cards yet. Ace Hardware. I don't know if we can close the back of my truck and put it in there. We could save the wheelbarrow for another day. It's not really like an organizational— Solid tire. Really?
Solid steel, flat free.
No way. That's even metal handles, guys. This is solid.
That's the one I get. Let's get one of these.
They can't fit it in this truck. You can't open this rain? I can't use it.
Is it all right? But I just worry, like, going to National, you think somebody would take it? Oh yeah, all the stuff. The electric blower is going to be back there. We go drop it off real quick. They're going to be shopping.
I mean, we have time to burn. We might do that. Let's get it.
We'll drop it off.
Stay focused, Jonah. You're as bad as Pete.
Papa, this one's the one I'm building.
I think this is some man day. Go to the tool— to tools.
This is like a Toys R Us for grown-ups right here, homie.
They're getting excited.
No way.
You got a number 3 years before your chainsaw. Okay, Pete, where's the electric blower?
This one, this one.
That's the one. Yep, that's it.
Oh, you think they'd have it charged so we could test it?
Yeah, right. Hey, it's the last thing.
What is this?
I'll get the mousetraps. You want to get the trash bags or anything, right? Oh, this is the kind we want too, old school. We're gonna need these until our cats get a little bit bigger. Boys, will you go get us a cart?
Sure.
And then we're gonna go—
Hey, I'm giving you a $20 shopping spree, okay?
Oh, and we need LED lights.
Can I have one?
I'll give you a $10 shopping spree. He helps me, and you help me too, but he helps me a little more. LED.
Here, look what I got over here, sweetie pie. Got you a new broom, man. It's metal too.
It'll keep us clean. Come help me figure out these LED lights.
He was just trying to give me some of that popcorn for the kids.
Really?
Yeah, come see.
How much is it?
You should wait till you get a real cycle.
It's well worth the investment.
But I want this one right here, Daddy. $21, Daddy.
Okay, if that's what you want. You're gonna weed with it and cut the grass?
Yeah, I'll try.
You gotta help me with these lights.
I'm over here, I'm on it. We gotta find the right color.
There's all kinds of choices. LEDs are right here. Do we get the big boys? Or the regular light bulbs are down there. Like that.
75-watt replacement.
1,100 brightness. What does that mean?
That's pretty high. Those are the lumens. So these are only 800 lumens.
We want it bright.
We do. These will light it up. How many do we need? More than 4?
Like—
14?
20? So many stalls down there. So many light bulbs out.
Soft white.
No, that's this.
I don't like soft white.
Picky about the kind of light too.
So no, I like it bright, dude. It's so dark down there. If these are daylights, why are they like less brightness? They're just—
the other ones are higher watt, so this is only a 60 watt.
Oh, is that one just as bright?
It is pretty close.
That would work. I like the color too, right? And it looks like they got plenty.
That would work.
That might be even better for the netting. You guys have some screws?
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
All right, so I'd say get like a 8 of those maybe.
We do have lots of screws, Jonah.
Yeah, little ones.
Here we go. Oh hey, this is to hang our electric poultry netting on the wall.
We're getting organized over here.
But it's rainbow. Guys, it's okay if we get one that's $8?
It's okay if you keep quiet for a little bit. Bribery.
I never said that.
Usually works.
Couldn't hurt to have some of these.
Looks like we're about to get everything we need right here. We're not gonna need to go to Lowe's.
Oh, we gotta get that blower.
Yep.
This is the one I like.
Wait, this is what you want?
It's only $10.
You kind of wonder why a knife that big is only $10. You sure that's what you want to get?
And this is what I want to get right here.
Pete, man, mad skills backing this big truck up.
We come from Florida, man. We can work up here in the mountains.
Backing right in, and the guy's not parked very good at all. We're going to Farm Burger for lunch. Gotta give the Floridians the full Asheville experience. You smell it?
I smell it.
Oh, they just turned it down. They turned that big skyscraper down.
Oh, have they?
Yeah, that's different.
Hey, how are y'all?
Why do we got in there?
Are you getting hungry? You getting hungry? Hey Gideon, you got new monster flip-flops?
Yeah.
Okay. Lily, what an outfit.
I love it.
Funky funk. Can you say I'm funky funk?
Funky funk.
See you ladies. Love you buddy. We'll see them soon.
Please. Please.
Mr. Brown's pretty tore up. Okay, we can walk. We can walk. We can walk. Hey, look who's up here. Look who we've let go. Look, that is Free-range cats now. I'm hoping that 3 days was enough in their cage to train them to a home. At least they're tame enough that we could catch them if we need to. See, you getting happy? You happy now? I think you're in your heaven now that you're out, aren't you? Aren't you? Ah, Jonah had volunteered to move the sheep himself. I love that he's just taken ownership. Let's go check in on him. Is everything okay, Jonah? Do you need help? You still got this?
I still got this.
You still want to do it? Okay. It looks like you guys have got this. I just pulled this out of the mama's chicks because there was no feed in it. I saw their spilt feed here, so I started to pick it up by hand and put it in there, but I'm thinking— I don't think there's gonna be any crows on this rainy day. I got an idea. It's already working. They came right to this feed, and they'll come back in at night. They know where home is.
Plus, I think they're happy to free-range change a little bit.
What do you think? What's the matter, Jonah? It's too long. There needs to be 5 links right here. There's only 4, so let me—
1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
You went 5 there. Somewhere. I think this corner cheated over a little bit. Jonah, you got this now? Yep, it looks much better. We accidentally brought this one too close in too, so that might have been confusing. This is right. All right, sheep, you're in good hands. Josiah, Gavin, can you go help Jonah? The cats are following you. That's okay, go. Let's see what happens. Just go run.
Really?
Where are you going? I thought cats didn't like the rain. Huh, Mommy? I guess your cats like the rain. I like that they come up to us and get a petting. They went and got in the creek, honey. Do you think they actually got in the creek? I don't know, it might have been the tall grass around the creek. They were not happy though, meowing. Can y'all do it?
Yes!
Come on, you He-Man, you can do it! You guys need some help?
Yeah.
Okay, let's do it. I think the cats are trying to get to the boys and they, they aren't. Look. Oh, there they are. They're over there at the gate. I don't think they'll crawl through there though. Maybe they will. Just gonna see what happens. We can't be constantly— we can't be constantly moving them. Should I go see if— how they're gonna react to chickens? All right, you want to be with us so bad? Come on, you wet cat, come on. See how you react to chickens. Oh my, you want to be on me? Oh look, this one made it! Royal, you made it! I'll be soaking wet. Let's see how they react to the chickens. Oh good, they're not chasing them.
Good.
Come on, Goose, show them. Look at that goose already guarding. They largely have not too much interest. It's shaking. Come on, they're cold. So back to the cage for tonight. That was enough excitement for today. Let's try again tomorrow. And maybe it won't be so rainy. It is pouring rain out there. Beauty getting our plates ready. Yep. This is a sheet mulch bomb for our sweet potato slips. I'm not gonna be able to take this camera. I'm gonna switch it out for this camera. Oh, we had dumped leaves on the side of the road. We got them free from the— from our town and and they've been sitting there for 3 years, and there's rich soil underneath them, and there's a pretty good bare spot. So we decided to plant in that. First thing we had to do was pull up any big weeds. The second thing we did was pierce holes through the plates. We've been using compostable paper plates, and we're going to use them as like, uh, sheet mulch bombs. We pierced those plates We put the potato slips through them like a candle, you know, like a candlelight service type of thing, and poked a hole in the ground and put those potato slips in and planted over 100 potato Slips.
Sweet potato slips.
We finally got done. It was, uh, almost 8 o'clock. Washed off the tools because what would Uncle Pete do? He would wash off the tools. Another day in the Appalachian rainforest.
Me and Josiah and Gavin are about to go do the chores.
Hunt, what do you have there? Good spot.
The pigs. Now we're going to go do the sheep. Jonah, want me to come over there? Hi guys, I'm getting out of here. Finally finished the sheep. They look very happy. You guys take this in, it's starting to rain. I thought I was going to the house.
Oh.
Okay, it's on record. Go break that, hang on. Get to the chopper! Get to the chopper!
