2 Pigs Escape the Forest

Victor Justin Rhodes and his family move two piglets to a forest enclosure, but one escapes during the process. They improvise waterers from jugs, rotate chickens, and chase down the loose pig while prepping the farm for a week away.

Papa, look!
Sabina, she's eating here. Should I go get her a chunk of fish? Pop, should I go get her a little bit of fish?
Sure, just a little bit. Come on, you half wild cat.
Sabina, Sabina, Sabina!
Cattle tamer, rainy chores, meat chickens, turkeys. We're prepping to be gone for almost a week. It's time to put them out, but we, we're We can't put them out. It's cold and rainy. They're gonna have to wait till we get back.
Need to cut some mesh and bring it out there.
Let's do it. These raspberries need to be planted before they outgrow their pots. Uh, they look like they were parts. Austin on pick the shaving out of grit duty. You like that duty? It's fun. His wife Ashley on fill up the turkey feeder duty. You like that duty?
Yes.
Austin, the YouTube editor. His wife Ashley. I said, what do you like to personally see in the vlog? They said guess. So here you go. Guess 1, guess 2. Maybe you guys like that too. We need a bigger waterer. Their farm sitter will only do morning chores. We've got a casualty. We're gonna rinse it off for Winnie. We have some leftover garden salad, finely chopped, leftover from our film shoot the other day. Perfect for these little brooders. Poultry, that's good. What have you found? Let's show me. Are there more? Somebody else ate it before you could. Look. That's a little extra protein. Ouch. Are the sea monsters out of water?
Yeah.
Okay, then yeah, we got to get a bigger jug. Is it in here? Buried in the container? You found one? Heck yeah! Switch out the— we'll clean it out again while we're at it. 3-gallon wasn't enough, we're going up to the 5-gallon. Hey, Winnie, we got a treat for you. She's hesitant to eat in front of the alpha. Oh, she did it! She did it! Good girl. Well, third year in a row squash are gonna die when planted in the cow sacrifice area. I don't know what gives there. Nacho, well, he's ready to be— oh, you gotta throw it way beyond this manure corner right here, as far as you can. Boom. Grab that whole big old chunk, it'll throw better. Gonna feed him some hay and just, just in case we can't get to moving him today. A little update on Grandma's garden while we're up here. She had the chickens over here. She's planted a lovely mulch path raised raised bed garden and put the chickens back over here. That's one method for a small-scale homestead too, is chickens in one area, move them out, plant it, and then flip-flop back and forth. Perfect activity for a rainy day. Go over there. Oh, there's some song right there, or is it not loaded yet? That's how we start filming. We're gonna be gone for a few days, so we're prepping the farm for the farm sitter. That includes going ahead and mowing for the paddock, show the farm sitter where they go or to actually set the fence. They don't have to think about that. Sure, you have to get my— you have to get in my lap and get in the seat belt. Just set up a dog crate to catch the little pigs later. Just a farm trailer. The dog crate just so happened to fit perfectly. 3 of these are sold, Lord willing, getting picked up today. 2 of them are ours going to the forest.
Cut it here.
Okay.
And then this one goes and cuts it like this.
Which one you want me to do?
You can do this one.
These are tree protectors so we can string trim around them real fast. First up, getting the T-posts out there. Think she can do it?
Baby, baby, can you wave? You going to wave high?
Yeah, that's one way to carry the tree protector. Look at this, look at this. Little bees nest forming under this apple tree already. Some trust right there. What do you think about Jonah's driving skills on that thing? He's doing great, man. Seems like he's been doing this for years. Is the heat cranking?
No, the machine should keep warm.
He's got some coffee roasting back there. After this one, let's eat breakfast. How many people can we get in a double side-by-side? Side. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Breakfast break. Watermelon egg combo to go good together, Ashley. Yep. Let's steal a joke from Austin. You guys ready for a dad joke? Is that already cranking dad jokes? Yep. You got something in your hair. Yep. Oh, how am I supposed to say it? That's what I said. I said, hey, you got something in your hair. Well, that's how dad jokes supposed to go. Nobody else is supposed to laugh at the dad. So you did it, you passed. Awesome, welcome to the dad club. Will this cage fit in Salma? Actually, I don't think we have the right hitch for that trailer. Andrew's here to get his pig. You ready for this, buddy? I don't know, catching pigs always works better with a camera.
Move this thing over here so you can pick them up over the gate.
Move that cage.
Yeah, right here.
And then who am I going to hand them to? It's nice handing them to Andrew.
Well, you'll be standing right here.
Oh, and you're going to pick them up?
Uh, yeah, sure.
Okay.
Got the wrong side. That's the open side. It not fit sideways.
It won't. Can you guys hold it? I know you're scared, but this is gonna be the happiest day of your life. They're going to the forest. It's already browsing, and they're little. They're gonna get around more than these big guys. They're gonna work this forest a little bit better. Look how cool it is up here. They're just gonna be so happy. Is that your spirit animal? You are a little piglet. Boy, they're drinking good. Their pee is crystal clear. Got the milk sled hooked up to Selma.
Josiah, put on your safety glasses.
It's everybody sitting down. Don't go crazy fast, just don't stop going uphill. We got to get this in place for the farm sitter. It's going to start warming up and they're not going to have trees right there, so we gotta get the milk sled over there. 3 problems. 1, we're going up a pretty steep hill, 30-degree slope. 2, we're crossing a ditch. 3, we got tall grass. 4, we got trees to dodge. Yeah, buddy, he's sliding. He's slipping and sliding. It's almost too light. I got the Mini X from here, but how can you pull with the Mini X? It doesn't have a hitch. Yeah, you just pull with the arm like, uh, all right, all right, go get it. Now once you get up here and you're pulling straight across, Salma can do it, right? Yeah, I think Sally could have pulled it.
Yeah, probably.
Problem is Sally's in the shop. It's taking forever. Henry's chasing it. Okay, we're just chilling by the swing and Mom says, look, there's a piglet down here. Henry just chased it down the— I don't know how we're gonna catch that piglet. It's gonna be hard. One piglet out, two kind of herd together, one piglet. Maybe it has an idea where home is, which would be the pole barn. It's not adjusted to the forest yet. Got a pan and some milk. Here, pig, pig, pig, pig, pig. Oh boy, oh boy. Here, pig, pig. It's no hurry, no hurry. The other one's out too. What's this on? It was on.
I, I turned it off.
Look who's out. We moved them to the forest and this little guy is out. Is the other one out?
It was. I got it back in.
I think he's lost. I don't know. Home is way up there, but he just got moved yesterday, so I trained him to electric fence, but then I took it out of there for a while and maybe I need to retrain them. Thus being gone, the plan is pole barn. It's bulletproof. More chores for the farm sitter, but not really, because if that ends up being their chore, that's bad news. That's a good sign. He saw Salmon, came running. It's hard to catch pigs, especially one little pig. We're gonna try to get him on skim and then get him eating, and then I can grab him. This night you have to get him to cut his hair.
Yep.
Tractor shows.
Yeah, I don't even know what this one is though.
He's just involved.
