Victor Justin Rhodes walks through a day of farm and family projects: clearing pasture for a new shed, processing livestock with a buyer named Van, building a ramp for Grandma who has ALS, and checking on house construction inspections. Happy Frosty Day!
La la la la la, let me be free.
Trying to hurry this morning. The boys' last take the hand off the airsoft gun is in. We need to approve it. We want to approve it before Sam and John leave. Hey, you guys ready to see this video? Yep. After the video publishes, I can get the gun back, right? I always like to add some protein to this chicken feed when possible, even if it is chicken broth. And for good measure, some abundance, some dirty eggs. We're not wasting. Last one to take their hands off these airsoft gun lenses. Everybody comfortable? Everybody peed? Yeah, go! It has officially begun. We have cameras watching every angle. Stay warm and be comfortable for as long as I can and not have to stand up at all. You may sit down. It may not last forever. Every half hour we got a surprise. Oh, the brothers. We all enjoyed the video. And did you see him play rock paper scissors shoot?
He did.
Show everybody how you play that.
Play this, play the rock paper scissors.
How'd you like that video?
It was good.
It was good. Happy day! Welcome to another day of a family just trying to stay healthy so we can thrive to play with our grandchildren. You're almost done, bro. Good job. Healthy lifestyle for us certainly includes growing our own food. Back to all those trailers right there. Nice! That's some mad skill. It's— this one is hard to back up because the front axle moves. Loose, so you need to go somewhere where you can loop. Today's project— whoa, whoa, slow down! What's the hurry? Whoa! Is this where we're parking? Oh, I had a whole bit I was going to talk to y'all while I did that, make it more interesting. Anyway, what I was going to say is we're clearing out of the way for a farm shed. Yeah, it needs a bit of work, but we got some time. May. May will be getting up her first hay. We got everything. Let's go to Big Daddy's project. You want to get more rocks? Yes. You want to go? We'll go watch him and Sally.
I'm not getting any eggs.
Why not? Because I still have to stack rocks up there. Oh, you do?
Yes.
Really? Just— wait, we can get more rocks coming, and then we have all the rocks. Yes, but I'll leave it up there. I don't want to have to take it up there again. But those aren't the rocks that we want to— they're little rocks that are left. We want to put down more big ones. Jonah says there's rocks in the acre, the pig land. Jonah— Josiah says there's not. Who? I thought we were just getting going and I'm getting called to the house.
Big Daddy wants to know if they're gonna take that pork belly to Vandale.
Uh, they can.
Where is it at?
Do you want to wait? Talking to you. We found more bacon. We thought we were out of bacon. Do you want to wait until we take the steer? Yeah. Okay, tell him. And I I need to call Van down, schedule when they can take the steer. We're running out of beef, so we're gonna have to harvest one of these steers pretty soon. We got some pork belly we want to be cut down into bacon. Let's do it all at once. Jonah, are you gonna come look at the acre with us? You can look at it on your own. That one's way too big. This one will do. That's not too big, right? Oh, it'll be good for a base. This— these would be good for top ones. What about this one? Is it too big? And then that one will be good. Just so— there's one over there. Or is it too big? It's way too big. How about this one? Is that too big? I don't know, it might be for the bucket. That'd be a good base, so flat. Here's one. This is where we're clearing pasture. We need the big rocks out of here anyway. There's one. That's too big. These should get out of here. They are small, but he could load them into your bucket. It's not going to be easy to graze, especially mow after the cows. There's 3 right here. Hey, we're going. Do you need me to carry you? Yeah. You got your legs on backwards and you got your glove on backwards too. That's right. There's a lot of rocks over here and we'll knock out two birds with one stone. Clearing our pasture, getting rocks for Grandma. This next project, caring for the generation before us. It's so big. I think they can get bigger than they think. Henry's walking on a retainer wall for a driveway to get Grandma up closer to the door. So she can't— Big Daddy's going to build a ramp. She's having a harder time going up steps with her ALS, so this will make it a lot easier. Jonah's saying Josiah will stack, Jonah will go get rocks. I've been overrided by the boss. Got the wall done and it is beautiful. Worked out Nice! Jonah's filling in the dirt. Grandma's project mostly done. We'll fine-tune tomorrow. You're gonna want to come hang out with us tomorrow. Now, a meeting with Randolph to get what you call blocking in, things to mount our cabinets and I think frames and stuff like that too.
But the fridge and the freezer, don't they have separate— So is that okay because it's a double? I have no idea.
I don't know.
I don't know nothing about building a house.
Time to do blocking before Wednesday, Randolph? I think so. I'm coming back a little while Thursday morning. Oh, okay. All right. Randolph is going on a much deserved vacation that we're trying to get as much as we can get done right before he leaves. Uh, Randolph just informed us we don't need blocking for the cabinet.
Like right here would be the— put a block in here for the hang for the hand towel.
It's been a long time waiting. You don't see any insulation up there, but we got the electric done and inspected, the HVAC is done and inspected, the plumbing is done and inspected. All we lack is the framing to be inspected, and next week we should be insulating. How do you feel about the blocking? Good.
I just wish that it would go faster. I just wish that Enjoy. I wish that we could line everybody up and just— it would work, but you know, there's delays and all the things.
Lily, thank you so much for making this lunch. Yeah, you too, buddy. What do you want to say? You want to show them how you eat that burger? Oh, he's showboating. Are you the future vlogger? All right, Justin Rhodes. Yeah, little Justin over there. Kids went with me on my Another after lunch walk in the woods. Now Lily needs me to supervise her riding Peaches. Does this help him be still?
Yeah, cross ties are the sturdiest things a horse has.
He's being still.
It's the safest.
Yeah, Peaches has been a little antsy, a little ornery. In like a free-for-all setting. So we've got it— it needs to be much more controlled. For now, she's just riding him in the ring. This will be the first time she, she would have ridden him since doing that without having a trainer here. Peaches and Blaze were best friends from day one, so Peaches will do better with Blaze out here. He just needs a ring. Extremely far out of Lily. Let's get some more work done. How was acupuncture, darling?
Oh, so good. It's so good. It's so relaxing. Oh, there's groceries in the back of the car. We gotta get them out. I bought you butternut squash.
Oh good.
The things I forgot to get on Monday. Um, tea and, uh, their local apples because they had local apples there. So I bought Awesome.
You're charged up, ready to plan tile tomorrow? Yes. Billy, he likes your ice cream. Tomorrow, finishing Grandma's, spreading the gravel out there. Happy day. See you then.
