Building a Homestead in 100 Days - Day 75

In this vlog, Victor Justin Rhodes documents day 75 of his 100‑day homestead build. He begins by checking a pig Everflow waterer that remains unfrozen at 25 °F, then moves to the main project: extending a gravity‑fed water line from a creek‑tapped tank down the access road to future pastures and pig pens. He and his children measure, cut, and assemble PVC pipe, install ball valves, and plan shut‑offs while searching for additional pipe. The episode also covers an on‑site visit from electrician Todd, who evaluates the existing 20‑amp circuits, the load from submersible de‑icers and space heaters, and discusses adding sub‑panels off a 50‑amp RV circuit to support five water submersibles. Family members help with hauling, measuring, and troubleshooting. The vlog ends with a celebration of reaching 1 million YouTube subscribers, showing the creator award and thanking viewers. Throughout, the tone is informal, instructional, and enthusiastic, highlighting both the technical challenges of homesteading and the personal joy of community support.

30 minutes, then the bacon's done. Let's go get the small animal chores done. Happy day, happy day, happy day. Oh, is this still working? I did chicken out and put the lid back on loosely so that it wouldn't explode the tank if it froze. It's working. 25 degrees last night, it still works in 25 degrees. Oh, maybe it helped that I at least covered the lid, you know, kept frost off of it and maybe helped keep the top from freezing. I left it loose in case it did stop flowing, it could flow out. I got chicken. I was thinking we might break something. I had put the lid on last night thinking, oh, it'll come up, it'll, it'll hit the lid, and then it'll force itself down the line. But then I thought, well, the line probably got frozen is why it's filling up. And so that might not work. I just break something. Where are we going? In our mad haste to save the burning house yesterday, I forgot my jacket up at the woodlot. Day 75 of a 100-day challenge to establish 2 acres for homesteading. That water line, that's the goal today. We've tapped our creek at the top of the mountain. With a tank. And now we just need to get water line down through our access road so that eventually we can get water to these pastures and hopefully pigs very soon. Jackie, and toboggan! Hey, you're doing much better about staying with me today. Every day is a new day for you, okay, buddy? The good news about that Pig Everflow waterer not freezing up at 25 degrees— it's rare around here that we get less than 25 degrees. It's just going to be an extreme event that we freeze that up. Wouldn't you look at these naughty sheep? Look at these naughty sheep. Why do you think they're hanging out right there? What are you naughty sheep doing? You know what these sheep are doing? This pig feeder was right over here and they were getting into it. Naughty sheep. Well, you're great with child. Almost do. Good morning, Hope. Happy day. How's everybody? Good. Their water is nasty. Oh, I see you aren't staying in. You got any ideas to keep those piglets in? Because they probably just eat the chicken's feed. Look at you! That for the breeder pigs? Yeah. Heck yeah, it was smelling in there, wasn't it? A little bit ammonia smell, huh? They need a diaper change. Let's jump in here while Stud is nowhere around. Under what? Okay, I like it when the bells come around. These are— take ownership. Looks like I'm not gonna add any hay. I'm gonna make them eat this. Coming low on hay and our regular hay guy being kind of— love this platform. The kids have made this so they can walk up it and throw hay in there. Hey, Papa, breakfast on its way. That could be a little crispier. Happy day, Henry! Can you eat your bacon and eggs, or are you gonna play with the tractor? Or both? Y'all coming? Yeah, the electrician is here. We're gonna quickly show him some things. There's like 6 outlets on one circuit, so of course we overload it with our de-icers and our uh, space heaters. This outlet, that outlet, an outlet on the outside corner over there, and there's an outlet on outside corner over there. There's an outlet here and this light, this outlet, and as far as I can tell, that one too is all in one circuit. You want to see the de-icer? Yeah, you better unplug it. I was trying to see if there's any kind of amperage on it that would say— 1500 watts. 20. So I mean, probably get 2 of them on a circuit. How many amps can you put on a circuit? Once you get 2 on there on a 20-amp circuit, you're open. So wow, so we can just have 2 of these submersibles on one circuit, and ultimately we're going to need 5 of these things, so we're going to need 3 circuits just for the submersibles. You almost need a circuit for each one, unfortunately. Okay, now what about tapping into the RV? That's a 50-amp circuit. I mean, you could You could put a little sub-panel on it. The problem is if you ever did have an RV in here at the same time, yeah, it's plugged in, then we better be prepared, huh? Is that enough to make a plan? Yeah. You boys ready? We are in good hands with Todd the electrician. You pop one of these on the electric bike? Yeah, let's see it. Look at this guy back on the saddle. Can't keep him off. Nope. Let's haul these, uh, lines up the mountain. I think pulling multiples at once was a bad idea because they're just getting tangled in each other and I'm not able to just drop them as I go. I've got a full wheel there. Let's do it two at a time, zip back and forth. Hey, is this all the pipe we have left? This ain't gonna do it. This is maybe, maybe 200 feet. You know if we have any more pipe anywhere, Lily? That's what you want. You want a ball valve right here, a piece here, a piece here with another hookup. It'd go like that. Yeah, but you can use different ones here. Yeah, I suppose it'd go like that. Let me show you. Space it to account for PVC. No, we're not going to use those there. Do you guys know where more pipe is? Yeah, right here. 200 feet is not going to cut it, and there's stuff up on the mountain. I think I got that. So you need to get the Teflon tape for this, Jonah. I'm just gonna do a dry run right here. So then that and then there, and then another ball valve right here. This exit is going to have to be the little ball valve. There we go. Okay, yeah, and it'll go left side just like that. Then you can make your hose connections into that ball valve. We only have so many of these too, Jonah. I think we only have like one more. Billy lets you and I drive around the farm looking for any more of that line. We picked it up. I thought we had— we had some here, but I'm pretty sure I got it the other day. We could check one out at the pig land, huh? Hey, we're riding on water, Lily! Yeah. Hey, is that one? Yes. Or is that super— has that been cut? You hold my brake. Yeah, it's just a little scrap. This is a little scrap too. We'll at least drag it home, can use it for parts. Can you sit on it? Yeah. You got it? Yeah. I couldn't find anything, boys. We're productioning the pieces that you need. Okay, hopefully we did it right. It'll go in the line like this. Yeah, and you'll be able to turn this off and then water will come out through here. Sun's been sitting on this a minute. Hopefully these are warm enough then that we can straighten them out. How many were you guys able to make? I'm gonna make 4. You can make 4, Lily? Let's take this up the mountain. Let's go measure with our wheel measure. We're gonna go measure how much more line we need, then we walk. Access will only be at 100 when we fill in that big gap. Hmm. There it is. See it through the woods? We're at 257. Let's call it 300 feet. Let's go see what our tank's like up there. Water's running. Curious to see what kind of flow we have, if the freezing weather messed with things a little bit. Any tanks right there? We only probably have 100 feet of line down from it and then 300 feet to get to where we were. Let's hope water's still running into this thing. I hear rushing water here. That's good. Look at this, a great flow. We don't even need to fill this tank up. Let's follow this line and let's make sure it drains. I love that. I love that sound. Gravity-fed water off of creek that's already here. Let's go down to the end here and see if we've got water going through our line. Funny, as I'm going down here, I'm always looking for— look at this tree lily! Oh, beautiful. Probably 3.5 foot in diameter. That line is way down there. 100 feet feels a lot further when you're walking through jungle like this. It's flowing out nicely at that rate. I don't think it's gonna overload. If it does, we just slow it down a little bit. We need to put a shutoff on that tank and we can just turn the valve down a little bit. All right, looks like the boys have got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7-ish. I say ish because they're not all complete. Beck, what's going on? You were out of the bed yesterday. What's the matter? Hear that? Had to cancel the Christmas party. New Year's party. It's moved into my sinuses now. We got you some leftover Mexican. Party was gonna be tomorrow. We'll still have another one. Maybe we won't be having a Christmas parade, but we'll be burning Christmas trees. Also, there's big news. Big news. Look what's here. You guys know what this is? When you get a big package like that from YouTube, it can only be one thing. Do you think this is a toy? No. Why are y'all so excited? We're gonna be rich with all this gold. We are rich with friends, I will tell you that. 1 million subscribers. I heard that the very surface is real gold, very thin layer. Don't touch, don't send it. Sounds like maybe you want to hang this up in your room. Thanks to everyone, thanks to each and every individual who has said I like this. Everybody gets a kiss. You can see yourself and you got it all messy. That's okay, we're not long for this world. Look, it'll go good with the silver. We got the over for 100,000. You ready for the next one? 10 million diamonds. I think, I think it's a ruby or something. Give them a clap. Yay! Yay! Oh yeah, oh yeah, thank you!
