Celebrating Mother Day - In A School Bus Conversion

The video captures a family’s informal Mother’s Day celebration inside their converted school bus while parked at a campground near Boston. The day begins with Lily presenting a handmade card and the family exchanging gifts—flowers, a charm necklace, and a ring—while the parents (Speaker B and Justine) coordinate surprises. The father prepares a breakfast of locally sourced sausage, eggs, cheese, and later a chili and brownies, describing the ingredients and their farm origins. The family enjoys indoor activities like showering, watching shows, and FaceTiming Grandma, interspersed with outdoor fun such as sledding, a fire pit, and discussing the bus’s practical aspects (dehumidifier, laundry, septic hookup, cramped space). Throughout, the dialogue reflects affectionate banter, gratitude, and the challenges and joys of living in a mobile home, highlighting the blend of celebration, family bonding, and the logistics of bus life.

Happy Mother's Day!
Is that a card you made for your mother?
Let me see it.
You're gonna make her feel very special on this Mother's Day. What a pretty drawing!
Good job. Did you know It's Mother's Day.
Yeah, what did you get Mom for Mother's Day?
Birthday.
Can you give her a big old kiss?
Yeah.
Okay, good.
Beautiful campground near Boston, full of trees. Not so beautiful day, so I think we're gonna take it easy in the bus and rest and relax on this Mother's Day. I've cleaned up the bus for her.
I gotta be quiet, I don't want her to hear, but this is the real surprise. This right here, look, she got I got my mom, her sister, and her mom some roses, so I figured she'd probably want the same. The van needed a new carburetor last night, so we went and got a carburetor, but then we snuck and got those flowers. Don't tell her. I'm letting her sleep in. Oh, Lily's card.
Nice.
A gift from Josiah.
You got me flowers.
I figured you got your— all the moments in your life flowers. You probably wanted some yourself.
Where'd you get them?
I'm not telling. I'm not telling my secrets. Oh, oh, look, I got her a gift too. It's not here yet.
You know what that is?
Oh! I see.
You know what it is? Huh?
You bought me this.
I hope you weren't just browsing the internet.
Oh, that's so funny.
Silence.
No!
She was browsing the internet. I had a charm necklace picked out with all the kids' birthdays. All the different colored charms. I hope you didn't buy it.
I didn't.
So I bought it for her. She left the window open. Thank you!
I think what happened was, is I was looking at it and I did all that and then I— I got called away from the computer.
Yeah. And I just stopped looking at it. I would have ordered it overnight, but it's not available for 4 weeks.
Aww.
I guess it's custom.
Yeah, it is. Thank you. This heart's cut out. It's the price difference.
Oh, how'd you know that? See, I cut out the heart for you. But you weren't supposed to know that was the prize.
I was pretty— yeah, it's okay. This guy wants to play on the playground.
Yeah.
But it's raining.
But it's raining. Oh my goodness, Lily, you are such a wonderful drawer. I love it. We got flowers. There's a fire going in the fire pit. It's a sunshiny day. Very cute.
Now I'm gonna make breakfast while you take a shower.
That's right.
Okay. A nice breakfast sausage, onions, peppers, cheese, eggs. Hmm, she loves that meal. The kids are chilling watching their favorite show, our show. Go grab a worm, won't you? You guys remember planting those worms? They're still doing good right now. Cooking up some sausage from Dawnbreaker Farms. It's looking delicious. Got it cooking with some onions. We did not have peppers, sadly, but we would have normally cut up some peppers and put it in there. How was your shower, honey? Fantastic. Good.
I loved it.
Happiness is a good shower by yourself and without an audience. Or as I saw on the sign the other day, happiness is a good hair day. You having a good hair day?
I think I need to go blow dry it.
It's kind of hard to tell. And it's Mother's Day. Y'all are sledding and crashing. What is this?
Papa, the both times I landed on top of Jonah.
Ah!
Ah, makes me miss home.
The boys are wanting to try some fresh snow over here where it's a little steeper.
Ah! Woo! What happened? I didn't want to hit the hole.
Oh, you thought you were gonna hit that hole. Hey boys, should I go once?
Yeah! Ready, Justine? Yeah, we going backwards down the hill.
Oh, hey, you and I going to go push this just a little bit. Oh no, oh no! Oh look, he doesn't need a sled. That was fun. Hey, we're back. I just added the scrambled eggs. She just told me she probably would have used less sausage. Whoops. Now that that's cooked down a bit, let's add some cheese. Shredded cheese from Full Circle Farm, sausage from Dawnbreaker Farm, and eggs from John Suskovich in Connecticut. And that was all local because we bought it directly from the farmer at their farm. Full Circle Farm in Florida, Dawnbreaker in North Carolina, John Suskovich in Connecticut. Breakfast was awesome. Now I'm going around. We're gonna stay, uh, dehumidified. This is after. Good clear window. This is a chamois cloth. Where's a good before? This is a before, just wiping it off with the chamois. We got the dehumidifier running. I emptied it this morning, but let's check. Still good. We kind of move it back and forth. Hope we should have gotten the bigger one or two of those little ones. I think they're okay.
I don't know, I think it's okay. I mean, we're keeping up with it. That First storm where we were in for like 4 days, that was like— that was bad, but I think this one, we started early. We're keeping up with it. I think we'll be fine with just one. It just takes up so much space.
We're gonna call Grandma and we're gonna wish her Happy Mother's Day.
Nope. My mom's not gonna be home till after 6:00. Oh, it's big daddy. So I bet that's Grandma.
Da, da, da! Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day, Mommy! Thank you, Grandma. Happy Mother's Day. Dad, I hope you're doing something special for her. We're fixing to leave.
We're taking her out to eat.
Oh good!
Grandpa bought me a necklace and earrings.
Oh, really?
This afternoon we laid down Mr. Brown, laid down myself. Beauty went to the grocery store. It'd been a while. What? Uh-oh, I didn't check myself before I started this. Oh my gosh, my hat was cracking. Oh my.
Yes, I went to the grocery store. This guy has been such an awesome papa, and so I thought I'd give him a break and let him take a nap.
When I get a break on myself?
Well, And then I took Lily. Lily and I had some mama and little girl time.
Mama and girl time? Did you enjoy it?
Yeah.
We had fun.
She helped me.
Good. Now look.
I helped you remember everything.
She did help me remember everything.
Oh wow. Oh look, more flowers. When I saw that they had those flowers, I knew it happened. They're on sale after Mother's Day, aren't they?
Well, it's Mother's Day right now. Everyone was there buying flowers for their mothers.
Oh wow, talk about last minute.
Today. Well, you were last night.
No, I was early. I was early. I make sure I got the flowers early. I do not procrastinate. Oh, look at these guys putting away the groceries. Good job, guys. The kids chilling out, watching some educational movies. Oh, wait a minute, just past the bridge. Hey bud, what are you doing? Did somebody get a hold of Lily's stuff? Did somebody get a hold of your princess dress? Yes. Well, don't you look so pretty, huh?
Yeah.
Beauty doing some laundry. How is our laundry washer and dryer working out?
Amazing.
So it's awesome when we get to a campground and we can hook up to the septic. Yep.
That's when I can use it.
That's really the only time we can because it uses so much water, but—
Well, it doesn't use so much water.
Using the electricity too.
Yeah.
You don't really wanna— I could run it on the generator. But yeah.
So, are you happy today?
Yeah. Yeah.
So, you know what happiness is?
A good hair day.
It's a good hair day. You having a good hair day?
Not really, but I mean, it's fine.
It's not the best.
It's not the worst.
I don't see how you could possibly have a bad hair day.
Oh, you're funny.
Time to call my mom. Y'all's granny. Everybody come on. Get in on the FaceTime. Everybody say happy Mother's Day when she answers. Wait.
Say happy Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day.
How are you?
Say we're good. That's our timer for the brownies. Beauty has made some brownies. It's been 20 minutes, honey. You want to check on them? She also made— what's up with you cooking this glorious meal on your Mother's Day?
Well, we were gonna try to go out, but the restaurant was really far away that I wanted to go to. Still needs some time.
10 more minutes, but we can start eating the chili, right?
Yes, yes.
That's the thing I like about chili— when you're done, there's a lot left over and it's a one-bowl meal. What are you trying to do?
Get my presents.
Okay, is it present time?
Yeah.
Well, how'd everybody like the chili? Good. Okay, time for the gift.
Happy mama?
Happy, yeah.
Happy mama. Very nice picture.
That's just a picture. Who's that for?
I got that. I got that.
All right, read that one to us.
No, I did.
Oh, okay. Josiah did.
I did.
Josiah's momma.
I see somebody's been getting their inspiration from the Great American Farm Tour.
Happy Mother's Day.
You and your favorite friend calling each other.
Oh, this is— who's my favorite friend? Who do I like to call?
Grandma.
Grandma. I like to call Grandma.
Okay, he got this for you at the Punnett Plantation.
A ring.
Oh my goodness, he's been seeing you look at rings.
He has been. He has been. He got me a nice ring. Thank you.
Oh, so pretty! And it fits too.
It does, it fits perfect. Thank you, buddy. I hope you have a good Mother's Day.
Thank you. I am a number one fan.
Oh, it means he's the number one fan. You're my number one fan.
Brownie time! How is it? Good Mother's Day treat? The kids are loving it. They're being quiet.
This is a family favorite.
Hey, what's y'all's favorite thing about living in a bus?
I'll get you more water.
Going to places.
Going to places. A mobile home.
Uh-huh. So if a tornado's gonna hit us, we can just move.
Yep. What's the worst thing about living in a school bus?
It's cramped.
It's cramped when we have to be in here.
Yeah, we don't spend much time in here normally.
No, we don't spend this much time in here, and when we spend this much time in here, it seems like we're always cleaning up, but if we just clean up and then leave—
Yeah.
We don't have to clean up so much.
