If they fell in, you'd eat 'em.
We just woke up. We're in Marathon, Florida, down in the Florida Keys. Mr. Brown has crawled into our bed. How you doing this morning, Mr. Brown? We're going all the way to Fort Myers. You know how far that is, Mr. Brown? It's at least over 4 hours according to the GPS, but it always takes longer in the bus. So we are up and at 'em. We're just filling up our water tank. Everything's going good. We're almost ready to go, heading out on the road. We were on our way to Fort Myers, passing the Everglades. We totally forgot we were supposed to do a boat ride here, but it's no problem. We're just gonna be on a detour and go on the boat ride now. It just so happens that we got here A few minutes before it left, we were able to get our ticket. Let's go! An alligator right there. Alligator! You see that alligator? Yeah. Oh my gosh. What's the matter? I'm scared.
The females usually live 40 to 60 years and only get 9 feet. The males can live over 100 years and get up to 20 feet.
So there's quite a bit of difference in the gender. Standard size. That's a 4 or 5-year-old mother. It's a little baby. Lay their eggs in the sawgrass, and as that sawgrass decomposes, it naturally warms and it serves as a natural incubator for the eggs. The scales on their back absorb heat and then release it through the evening to keep them warm.
If they fell in, he'd eat them.
He'd think y'all are a piece of bread.
Yeah, he would.
But he'd be pleasant.
He'd be holding on to his shirt. He's getting mad. Paul just wants to explore and I'm not letting him.
You can explore on this. You'll end up in that gator's mouth. Yeah, I would.
Guys, this is the Indian village. There were Indians living here from 18 1950 to 1960. What they lived under were called Cheeky Huts. They look the same now as they did then. If you guys would like to get out and walk around a little bit, we got about 5 minutes. There's also a nature trail right there.
Look around right there.
If you fall off, you might fall off.
Represent how they slept up off the ground, mainly to stay away from uninvited guests. Such as the 4 bad snakes we have. It's a diamondback rattler, cottonmouth moccasin, coral snake, pygmy rattler. All 4 can kill you within 1 hour if you don't get antivenom.
Hey, the kids are up here. They've gone around the loop. I'm gonna scare them. You're funny.
You get scared?
No, no, you get scared.
We jump up in the captain's seat, let him get a picture.
Yeah, right here drives it.
So put your hand on that, that's what steers the boat.
You ready to drive that big old boat? You driving it too now? Mr. Brown, I know you want to. You would drive that boat. You got no problems. That was fun. Did everybody have a good time? Yeah. Did you expect that?
No.
I woke up this morning, I did not expect that.
No, I didn't. I have been on a— I did an airboat ride several times when I was a kid. I don't know, I remember it, the boat being like lower, like I feel like maybe the seats were lower in the boat and the boat being smaller, and I remember it being very scary. This was, this was much better. I was not— I was a little concerned when we first got in the boat because I remember that from my childhood.
Hey, Mr. Brown, were you scared?
Yeah.
Were you scared, Lily?
No.
Were you scared, Josiah? No. Okay, y'all ready to get back on the bus? Yeah, we got a couple more hours and we'll be there. It's 4 o'clock, 10 till 4. Hopefully we can be there by 6. The place we were gonna stay ended up being too far away from the college campus where we're gonna feature the food forest. We're gonna feature that tomorrow, so we booked to stay real close at an RV park, so we're not too worried about getting there later. It's a real easy setup. We have arrived to our campsite. A beautiful campsite. Check this out. Nice RV park. The coolest thing about it is only 5 minutes away from the food forest. Going there tomorrow bright and early, 7 AM.
