Cows MOW our Overgrown Farm

This content was created by Victor Justin Rhodes. This content was uploaded by Victor Justin Rhodes. This is a YouTube homestead vlog titled "Cows MOW our Overgrown Farm" (published/created 2023-07-30). The excerpt captures a casual family/farm day: moving chicks into a Chickshaw Mini-Me chicken tractor, clipping wings, rotating sheep and steers on pasture, doing fence and bank work, collecting firewood, cooking (rotisserie chicken, shepherd's pie, dessert), kids swimming, and discussing permaculture and farm chores. The creators mention their Homestead Builds Kickstarter and free plans for the chicken tractor at homesteadbuilds.com. Multiple family members and helpers speak (names referenced include Mama, Jonah, Josie, Josiah, Lily, Austin/editor, plus animals Henry/Henrietta), and the tone is conversational and instructional/promotional.

Happy Sunday seat day! It's the maiden voyage of the new mini-me. But before we populate that, the word on the creek is Henry wants me. And where you been? I've been doing Henry. You want to go, Henry? He says no. See, I'm a boopy boy for the first hour and a half. She's gonna change and then come. Or up and incoming egg-laying posse. I put them up last night so that we could catch them today. Start laying in just a couple of months. Why am I moving these guys? I'll show you in a minute, but for now we're getting them out to the pasture. Chick Shawl Mini Me, great for a small posse out in the field. Pretty Shawl, great for a compost corner situation in the front yard. Gotta do 3 things: get the little chicks out of here, put them in the Mini-Me, count them, and clip their wings. The chicken tractor is our nursery. Well, this is our kindergarten. How is that with 27 birds in it? Chickens don't like tall grass. The cows already mowed this for us. Plus front view from where we're staying in the cabin. We can keep an eye out on these guys. To the nets, Josie. Guess who just called me on the radio, Henry. We're going back. Mama's ready. Coming with us, Jonah? I don't know. Well, you're sitting in the truck. Well, I have to make breakfast, remember? Mom's here. The movie barn opens. He is definitely different than all the rest. Free the birds! Let's see if we can do what Mom's saying. She wants to encompass this area behind the pole barn. Okay, so it's easy enough to set it up here. The question is though, can we set it up along the creek? See, I mean, right here we could. It gets pretty crazy right there. Maybe you guys could run a fence along the rocky bank. Jonah's gonna start on that with Josiah. We're gonna get water to the other people. You're not gonna eat that? She went all the way to get you the apple on a fork. I'll eat it. We had their net right here. Look at that, and we got them going all the way. They're gonna— hey, they're gonna string trim our banks back. The machine would be easier. I'm telling you, it would be easier. It's a romantic idea to have the animals do the work of your farm permaculture and everything. So what makes it worth it? Well, they need something to eat. Might as well make it the bank you gotta trim up. We have them string trimming your hot tub too, babe. They are happy. Yeah, they're happy. Let's get some shots before— What are we doing next? We need firewood. Let's get those little chicks up into the front yard. Oh my goodness, it's Henrietta! But I miss Henry. Do you know where Henry is? What'd you cook us today, Jonah? Biscuits and gravy. Oh no, I wish. Shepherd's pie, mac and cheese, and brisket leftovers. We got too little time for all I want to do, Beck. So we got to make priority. I wanted to move Nacho. I want to get some logs up here to be splitting for our hot tub. I'm gonna need to start the rotisserie chicken. I may need to start prepping that at like 2. That's like less than an hour and a half. We still gotta eat and clean up after. Boys, do we have enough firewood today? Yeah, but not tomorrow. No, we haven't. It's like a 2 2 weeks, but we should— oh, we do. We have 2 weeks worth that we do nacho and, and, and we call it an afternoon because you drive the machine. Yeah, we could get some logs up here and get it all set up. And we're trying to blend Sunday seed day with a little bit of Sunday fun day and take the kids swimming up at the pond. He's starting to eat more solids. He is. Finally, finally. This has been my longest— uh-oh, we've had a blowout. I might pick this up backwards. Done. Let's bring them on. Show them how tall that grass is, Lily. This is the acreage we've cleared over the winter. Sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep. This one, look, this is after they're done. This is before sheep. I didn't want to open it so much because got to put it back. I've never had this hard time moving sheep. There you go. Somebody want to test this? Look at these leaves. Use your head. Go get me the motor, which is on the freezer in there. All right, we got the rotisseries going. Kids want me to go swim. They go work with me, I'll go swim with them. Take off my nose brace. How do you get in there without flipping? We do! The rotisseries turned out nice. We killed some rotisserie chicken. It was delicious. And now Mama made— would you say this is an animal-based dessert? Milk, egg yolks, has some arrowroot and maple syrup, but then it's butter. Butter. It's delicious. Oh, he's getting serious. He's getting in the seat. We just want to see you try it. Okay, let's just go out. What do you think? Good. Try it, my man. Look. Are you not into it? You like it? That doesn't look like he'll get into it. First time? It's pretty good. It's evening. Let's go check on the sheep and steer and see what they were able to do in that area in just one day. But before that, the Chickshaw Mini-Me. Oh, the chickies stayed in their net. They're tucked in cozy this evening in the Chickshaw Mini-Me. By the way, Homestead Build Kickstarter backers, those plans are out. You just need to go check your emails. Thank you for backing the Homestead Builds book. Go and build the Chickshaw Mini-Me. It just rained here. It's smelling nice and fresh. We're almost down to the sheep and the steers. If you didn't back Homestead Builds and you want to get it on that in the future, go ahead and get it on our waiting list and we'll give you— oh, hey, it's right here— we'll give you plans to our chicken tractor. Using it at a nursery for these little guys right here that are going to move up to the yard. Mañana. It can also be used as a coop full-time, as a tractor for 3 or 4, or for coop for 12. You can build this. We got step-by-step plans for you for free at homesteadbuilds.com when you join our waiting list. Crossing an electric fence. It's on. Definitely works better with a camera. It's too tall. Austin, editor, you got to help me. You got to bring in some of the morning footage and then we'll cut to this. Evening footage. Oh my word, I remember we couldn't even see in here. Now we know it's back here and we don't have to mess with any snakes. Forgot we had that ladder. It's like we've string-trimmed along this—
