Day 8 Fasting, Tapping our Spring + Cousins Arrive

Victor Rhodes is on day 8 of a dry fast, down to 174.2 pounds with an average loss of two pounds daily. He's dealing with digestive issues possibly from excess magnesium, debating electrolytes with Dr. Alan Goldhammer's approach, and planning to source spring water instead. His cousins arrive from Nebraska with a new harp as the household shifts to family celebration mode.

Happy day 8 of this dry fast. 14 pounds? No, 16 pounds. I'm 174.2. I've lost 2 pounds a day. I think the normal on a fast is 1 pound a day. So do you think just my— do you think my body just likes to fast extra special? That's why I lose 2 pounds a day. No, I think that you're This can't keep going like this unless I'm gonna heal really fast.
Yeah, well, there was one day you only lost 1 pound.
Yeah, but on average I'm 2 pounds a day, babe. That's what I'm saying.
Oh yeah, yeah. Um, well, the first day you lost like 5 pounds immediately, and I think a lot of that was inflammation.
I am 174.2. I think the lowest I ever got was 169 when I had reactive arthritis. 168. I feel like my ideal is around 175. I didn't think about my shoulder with this fast, but I should have because you're going up pretty high now.
It's this one, isn't it?
Yeah, goal is like that. That's to do a Turkish getup. Wow, it did hurt. Yeah, my shoulder— other areas of my shoulder make up, and it comes up all crooked. I have some left. What would happen if Jonah did this? He probably wouldn't lose weight so fast, huh?
Mm-mm. I don't know that he could do it.
So—
'Cause—
If I go— if I go another 7 days and lose 14 pounds a day, that's gonna be 30 pounds.
No, you wouldn't lose that. I think you will stop.
It's gonna start slowing down.
I think it's going to. You still have weight to lose though.
Yeah, yeah, I do. I still have some fat reserve, which means 10% of that is visceral fat.
Have you gone poop lately?
I went poop this morning.
Was it diarrhea?
Yes, of course. Peeing out my butt. My question, that's what I was gonna do some research on, is that minerals? And maybe I shouldn't do minerals right now? I heard that guy, what was his name? Dr. Alan Goldhammer. He said not to even do electrolytes on a fast. Of course, he's not a fan of salt in real life. I don't think I'm going there. I've been doing minerals. I've been doing magnesium salt.
So diarrhea is actually classified as 3 or more times in 1 day. Oh, you would have loose stools.
What, what I'm saying, if something's going through me and out of me, isn't that my digestive system working? And don't I want it to take a break?
Okay, the human digestive system is continuously active processing fluids and waste even in the absence of solid food. The intestines secrete digestive fluids and electrolytes into the lumen, the inner space of the gut. Normally, these fluids are largely reabsorbed, maintaining a balanced water content in the stool. When diarrhea occurs without recent food, this delicate balance is disrupted. Secretory mechanism can be activated by Hold on a second.
What are you reading from?
It's just like a— it's called bodyinsights.com.
Some research. I'm doing some research, and then hopefully we're going to sum it up to you, not just reading. First light in our eyes. Bold move this frisky morning.
No, it's good for me.
Getting cold exposure and earthing. So I'm thinking I've been doing too many minerals. I definitely have a magnesium that I've been doing too. Cold water on this fast. I know it's not that great for you. It's better to be drinking room temperature water. It's amazing when you're fasting like this how disciplined you can be in other areas. I wonder if I would get some spring water. Oh, I I'm not sure if I explained from what we understood, diarrhea, or in this case liquid stools, you're gonna have some of that. People report that even after 20 days. Imagine your digestive system, that's the goal, to give it a break. It's a big energy suck and we want energy going to healing our body. It's in idle right now. Think of it like that instead of in speed and going. It's still idling. It still wants to stay alive and active and keep micro— uh, keep organisms in there because it never knows, hey, when I'm gonna have the opportunity to eat. I mean, it thinks I'm in a prolonged failed hunt or famine or whatever, um, so it's gonna always stay ready for when we do reintroduce food. It also say it could be excess minerals, particularly magnesium. So I don't want my digestive system to have to work hard, so I'm just gonna drink straight up water. I will say I have this raging sore throat. This is going to be day 3 of it. It felt better when I drank this morning. Hopefully that's a detox and not a cold. I'm thinking it is because nobody else has it. Hey bud. So I was gargling salt last night. Hopefully relieve the sore throat. And I just felt this urge, like it felt like it was food. And hey, swallow this. It almost was like it was going to give me that satisfaction of food. It was tempted as if it was food. So going to put some of this fat in a jar. This will have to be fridged and used probably within a week. Use it today, for example, to sear the, uh, the roast. We got to be organized. Organized. Is that all we got? No. Okay, get the other milks out inside. Let's ladle off the cream. Now that looks delicious. Lily's cooking marshmallows. She says, does this tempt you? The marshmallow's gonna tempt me. I can confidently say I'll likely never eat another marshmallow again, probably because of the maple sugar, and I have no problem with that. This is new. This is new. I will have a problem if I can't eat that beef. Leftover Mexican, I love it. Well, first of all, we're gonna sneak our little bits in there. We're also gonna put leftover burger. See, what are you gonna do with it? Half a burger left over. Leftover stew. Seems my throat, my throat is getting bearable. Maybe it's getting— no, it's pretty bad. I want to say the psoriasis itch is it screaming and shouting on its way back out. My family says it looks better. I think it looks better. It itches like crazy. And I'm not scratching it, and I have the discipline not to scratch it now. So I'm gonna be this miserable not eating, I can take the misery of not scratching. Remember how I said we'll get some spring water? Well, I was talking about buying some, but the new habit is, how can we— instead of buying some, how can we just do it ourselves, grow it ourselves, build it ourselves? And then I remembered our little spring. You think it's still got its collectible source? Just, uh, the hurricane may have destroyed it. There's our pond. There's our little silt pond. Oh wait, oh, it's on up through there, right? Yeah. Okay. You know, spring water is naturally structured And then, well, structures, and it's got minerals in it, so maybe that's all I need. I won't add any extra minerals to my water and I'll just be— and I'll be living off the land. Let's go. Hurricane destroy it? Well, yeah, they did. Where'd the pipe go? Because someone ripped it out.
Why?
I don't know. Hurricane could have ripped it out. Where was that? It was down there. Yeah, it probably got washed from the hurricane. You able to get some right there? Yeah, it's painstakingly slow. We have to tap that spring. Okay, look what he got. Yeah, there's some— there's debris in it for sure. We'll go filter this and boil it and then let it come to room temperature. We're not going to keep coming back here. The pathway is too convoluted. Hole isn't in. I do want to fix this up nice though one day. And actually do a spring water collection here so we can have it on tap down below. I could probably drink this, but just to be safe, we're gonna boil it for a minute. Just took a monster nap. I'm not pushing those off during this. Feel a little better. This lard though, this lard, lard. Wow. Yes, I'm still cooking for the family. Not as much. I don't want to be a burden. I'm cooking because the ladies went to pick up our cousins from Nebraska. They're here, bros! Go help them. You guys go be gentlemen, get their bags. Welcome to the new house. We have better arrangements this time.
Yes, much better arrangements than last year.
Look what I brought.
She brought a harp.
Oh wow, to play. We'll travel.
Yeah, I actually just picked it up off the Facebook Marketplace like 2 days ago.
Nice.
I'm so excited about bought it, and I was like, Steve, I think I could actually get it on the flight.
I think we have a record here. Rhodes family plus cousins and Big Daddy, Lauren. Big crowd. How many we got here? Has anybody counted? 12 people. I like it. Oh wait, it's 13. They almost forgot you. Wait, what's this? Yeah, we did. Did you eat it? Hey, dessert, green apps. Lily's a good host, doesn't she? She is. They got strawberries, popsicle, her birthday tomorrow, s'mores on Friday.
Wow, they're only here—
she's a keeper. I'm glad when y'all show up we have dessert every night. Yeah, wow, this is not normal. The life of the party has a game for us. I believe our water's cooled off. Can't wait to taste it. Okay, tastes— it has a taste. What is that taste? Metal? It tastes a bit metallic. I don't think it's as good tasting as my well water. It's water from the woods, y'all. Water from the land. Happy day.
