Do NOT make this Mistake with Animal water lines

Installing a 400-500 ft water line for pigs, the presenter tests PEX, poly irrigation pipe, and premium garden hoses. Standard PEX leaches chemicals and isn't UV-stable; the Wright Garden Hose costs more but is FDA-approved and kink-free with stainless-steel fittings.

Given my hand injury and Beauty's foot injury, let's say we're a little bit behind in the fact that this rush of spring— 3 days behind on cream separating. Gonna get caught up today. Yes.
It's less of a white ride.
We're going out in just one second. You ready? Yeah.
Pull this off.
Yeah, pull that off. All right, stop. All right, come on, Gideon. This video looks promising. Helpful DIY. Uh, made at least a couple of mistakes. Vamonos, niños! I was hoping this project would not take up my entire morning project time. You're actually supposed to— whoops— put this SharkBite disconnect tool flat end towards the SharkBite connection you want to pull off, and then it's not about pinching the— it's not about pinching the pipe like I thought. It's just actually pushing it off. Well, he made it look easy, but of course he did have two— oh my gosh, he did have two working hands. Okay, so don't make the same mistake that I made on my animal water line. Okay. Oh my gosh, bum hand and all. Oh, oh, I did it! You gonna milk her a little bit?
Yeah, accidentally.
Okay, I'll get get her alfalfa. So the other day I rolled out 400 feet of water line to the pigs where I want to put them in the forest, and it was one of those days that it was like— oh wait, I don't pour that in there. You know where the scoop is, Jonah?
No, but it was 500.
500? Did we do 5? Yeah, you're right, we did 500 more feet. This is embarrassing. I had a whole bit planned. It's supposed to go smoother than this. I'm supposed to be able to just scoop her something and tell you something. Two stories going on at once, and now there's a third story. I can't find my scoop.
Uh, it's probably on the bottom of the thing.
Nope, it's not in the hay. You guys found the alfalfa scoop? What I was saying is it was going so well with that water line that It was kind of like too good to be true. I think that worked pretty good. So you guys straighten out us another hose while I make the T-connection here. So come to find out, it actually was too good to be true. Some of you guys, a couple of plumbers, 2 or 3 of you guys reached out to me in a very kind way and said, you know, PEX, which is the water line that I used, isn't UV stable, which isn't sunlight stable, and it's going to break down really fast and poison the animal. I probably shouldn't be doing this. I don't think I'm going to have enough grip on this one. Alright, let's try this side. What the heck? Oh my gosh. Maybe I can. Just gird up your loins, boy. Ah! You know, I don't know if this is worth it at a certain point. I'm trying to return this, but— My time's valuable too. What? I don't even know if they'll return it. I don't even know if I'll be able to roll this up. So one idea I had was— Jonah, can you switch them out? Is to bury this line. Well, I didn't have the idea, the plumbers had this idea, and that would work, but this is like my first time doing this. Is that really where I want to waterline? Eventually I want to pan up here. Sarah, Sarah, our lovely videographer this morning. We want to catch into the springs, into the mountains, and hopefully gravity feed water over there one day. But so this is sort of temporary, so I don't want to be renting a ditch witch, burying this line, and then either not being in the wrong place or not needing it next year. I feel like I'm getting it. Come on, come on. Oh, this is too— this is crazy. I feel like I was making progress. There it is. So another idea is this black poly pipe from Lowe's. I've used it on my animals before. I'm actually currently using it right now on the Everflow waterer. A couple of problems with that, and I didn't realize that till just recently, is that that's labeled irrigation use only, like plant irrigation use, not animal drinking or human drinking. So it's probably not best practice. I mean, we've been okay, and those lines tend to kink when moving. They can, and then they get pinched, and then they crack, and then you gotta fix them. And so they're not the most perfect solution. I feel like maybe I'm making it too difficult. Maybe I— it is about squeezing it a little bit. No. I did not make it too difficult. It's difficult. Next, there is a UV-resistant PEX, but it's a temporary. It only lasts like 90 days. Ah, I'm getting better. That's helping, that's helping. There you go. Hey, all I needed was a couple of niños. Tug of war. Yay! Dan Ellman turned me on to this hose, and he's a real purist. On the Great American Farm Tour. It's called Wright Garden Hose, I believe that's the name of it. And I've got it and it's absolutely amazing. We use it for the cows, we use it for, uh, the garden. It doesn't kink, it's totally like FDA drinking safe approved, all the different approved. It's got stainless steel fittings and it happens to be on sale right now, like 40% off, so I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet. It was hard to unroll it. I imagine it's gonna be 10x hard to roll it back up. Can we do that? Okay, it's going good so far. It's wanting to spring out. I think they're gonna return it. I really feel like the guy at the— who was helping me, I was clear on what I was going to use it for. Maybe should have told me, but Maybe he didn't know, but I'm not into blaming other people. I'm into taking responsibility for myself. I can't control other people. I can only control myself. Even that's hard sometimes, isn't it? Don't lose it at the end. Okay, now I'm going to roll up this 300-foot hose.
Yeehaw!
I did it! I got it up! I got that project behind me. Sarah, you're a jack of all trades. One minute in front of the camera hauling milk, another holding the camera.
Just trying to help.
Oh good, she's got the yogurt going. How much cream did you get? I got 8 cups, so is that 2 quarts? Nice.
Okay.
That was a real quick look at the Kickstarter this morning. So excited, so many of you are so excited. About growing your own pigs, I'm gonna help you do that. We had an amazing show last night to hang out with you guys for an hour. We talked about where we've been with pigs, where we're go— where we are and where we're going. It's so cool to see so many people getting into this because they're such a wonderful animal to have on the homestead. So guys, Kickstarter, it's there, it's live. Uh, as of this, it's only got what— today's Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 4-ish, 5-ish, and Saturday at 11:59 PM. No, Sunday, 11:59 PM. So guys, check it out. We're almost to our goal. 70— I think pretty much 70% to our goal. Thank you guys. Can I have a virtual— can I have a virtual Papa Bear hug? Yeah, let's hug. Thank you guys. There you go. Thank you. Thank you for those of you who backed it, those of you who will. I'm not gonna let you down. We'll do this together. We'll grow pigs together, won't we?
