Don’t take my word for it ~ Members Share Inspirational Stories

Members of the DIY Abundance membership share how instructional videos and community support helped them learn homesteading skills like chicken processing and dairy goat care, expand their farms, and start businesses. Maria Link, Colby and Misty, and others credit the Permaculture Design Course and direct access to Justin and Rebecca Rhodes for solving real problems on their land.

A few days ago, I asked some folks, some folks just like you inside my Do It Yourself Abundance member area, I asked, "Do you guys have any testimonies of how this area has helped you?" I mean, I've talked a lot about it, but what about the people actually in it? What do they have to say? I was blown away and so encouraged by what they say. Actually, this encouraged me to keep on strong doing what I'm doing. So thank you guys for submitting that. I'm gonna give them— I'm gonna give you guys those videos right now. It's their— them talking, their edits, straight up. Here it is. I think you're gonna be inspired. Watch this.
Hi, my name is Maria Link. I'm the owner and operator of the Link Farms down in Southwest Florida. We have a little bit of everything here, and I found so much help from the member area and Justin Rhodes. It's probably the largest resource with the most supportive community and at such a great price. I think everyone could benefit from it and you should really check it out. A prime example, one of my favorite examples of how much support I have gotten from the videos that are inside the member area are we just finished processing the rest of our meat chickens a couple weeks ago and The first time I had been looking into raising and processing the chickens, I was— no idea, never done that before, not sure how it was gonna go. And it was the, the chicken processing videos within the member area are so detailed, walk you through step by step exactly what needs to be done, exactly what you need. Justin is always really good at providing his resources, so where to find the stuff you need to get to do the job that you want to do. It's, it's just been an incredible experience. The dairy goats were a whole new experience. Never had a dairy animal in my life, but I really wanted— wanted to make soap, wanted to do yogurt, have milk, cheese, butter, everything like that. I really wanted to get into. And now Justin doesn't have any dairy goats, right now, but I feel like a lot of the information about kind of like stuff that you needed and kind of the process in general, I got a lot of good information just from them and their dairy cow. And then the, the Facebook community offered a lot of support whenever I had any questions about anything that had to do with the dairy goats. There's so many people on there that have dairy goats and, and have all that information that you have questions about, and everyone's so willing to help, and, and everyone's so nice, and it's, it's just, it's an unbeatable resource.
Justin Rhodes' Abundant Permaculture membership area has been invaluable to my family. We live on slightly more than an acre. And because of the Permaculture Design Course within the membership area, we have looked at our property in a different way. We have been able to maximize our space and grow a significant amount of our own food. We're really excited about this growing season because we've implemented a lot of Justin's suggestions in those videos. On top of that, the membership area is incredible, guys. Seriously incredible. These people are not only helpful and knowledgeable, they're also kind and generous, and it is a pleasure and a blessing to be a part of this group of people who just want to make their lives and others better.
Hey everyone, I'm Colby.
I'm Misty. These are our children.
I'm Aiden. I'm Harley. I'm Eliza.
I'm Saber.
This is Jennings, and we are the Mack's Happy Homestead. We are so excited about being new members. We, um, have hopes of being able to share our successes but our failures. We hope to be able to build a community relationship through our membership. We hope to be able to learn from Justin and Rebecca. And do you have anything else to say?
I think with us homesteaders being so far away, sometimes hundreds of miles away, it's always good to have that community. And I think what the members area does, it allows us to be able to share with like-minded people and learn from each other.
Yeah, we, we feel like we have that connection, the same hopes and dreams, and we love that, that light— we have that likeness with others, and we're able to share our wisdom, but we're able to also gain wisdom.
With that being said, please become a member. Happy homesteading, y'all!
I'm Dan, and this is my beautiful wife.
Hi, I don't know if I'm in it. This is our little mini farmette.
Yeah, we got it all.
We had, we had some layers, and then we found out about Jess and Rebecca, and now we have this. Yes, which we never would have been able to do without their help.
This guy, we wouldn't have done it without the— without— I wouldn't, I wouldn't have pulled the trigger on doing this without having the support of the group, knowing that I basically have a consultant of anything farm-related that I can ask. It is really nice to have everyone on there is so friendly and helpful.
Yeah, so friendly.
Yeah, and not just for farming stuff, with food stuff. I know you've been, um, we've asked a lot of food questions, making lots of food, changing the things that we eat.
Our dog likes to chase, and we're even, uh, gonna get pigs. Yeah, we're getting pigs next. Yeah, Justin's the brains. This guy was the— I'm just following the plans, but, uh, I helped minimally hold things to build this, but he pretty much did it on his own. And, uh, these guys are 4 weeks old and they got 4 more weeks to live.
Yeah, and it's awesome to have the group and we're thankful for it.
If it wasn't for Justin and Rebecca, we would not have 31 sea monsters.
That is a fact.
Yes, just these guys.
Hi, my name is Shawna Garcia and I'm the owner and founder of Holistic Homestead and Living Faith Farms. I never saw how much my life would change so dramatically after joining the Do It Yourself Abundance members area. Just joining that, I found such a sense of community and also having Justin, being able to text him quickly to help me problem solve any issues that I had going on. Whenever Justin and Rebekah Rhodes finished the Greatest American Farm Tour and they said, "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" My husband and I, we looked at each other and we hit the ground running. We sold our beautiful 2-story, 4-bedroom, 3-bath house and we took the cash and we ran. We purchased a 6-acre homestead and very quickly this past July, I started my own business and a fresh food pantry for the people in my area. I am raising 80 meat birds a month, um, for the local community. I also got my butcher's license, so I actually process our poultry on farm and sell to the people in the surrounding areas. I also planted a 16-tree orchard. I have over 300-plant berry patch— strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries. I mean, you name it, I have it. Elderberries. I also got a beehive. I started my own dairy herd. I have a jersey, a mini jersey that's due to calve any day. I have a Guernsey and I have a mini Jersey bull. We use rotational grazing methods, so we use a lot of electrical fencing. I mean, I am living the dream. I sell my soap, I sell, I mean, my lotions, my lip balms, everything that I produce for our family. I sell the excess to others. And I mean, even now I have a little mini goat herd that's clearing the pasture. We cleared 6 heavily wooded acres. I've also been— I've been paid to go have a speaking engagement next week. I'm also going to speak at the premiere of a movie about sustainable agriculture. Like, just joining that group gave me so much confidence to do what I am doing now, to be an advocate and to show people you can do what you can where you are. We have no heavy machinery. The neighbors in the surrounding area— I bake, I give them things, and they come and they help us. One brought his bulldozer over to come and help me prepare my 12 1,000 square foot market garden. I'm joining the farmers market. I've started a CSA. I mean, I have 5 children, I homeschool, and I just— I did not realize that this is what I really truly wanted to do, you know. My husband and my 2 younger toddlers that have thalassemia, and there's literally no cure. So it's just like Justin's Lyme disease. There's a lot of side effects and a lot of symptoms. So the only way for them to get better is through nutrient-dense foods. And so whenever we figured it out, my husband and my children have been symptom-free for a year. I cannot imagine living any other way. We do this as a family. We get up, we do our chores, we go do school, and I'm just so grateful for everything that Justin and Rebecca Rhodes have done. So I just wanted to say thank you and just, just do it. I mean, you have a 30-day risk-free trial. Just do it and see what happens. Hopefully you don't end up selling your house too.
Hey there, Brian here from 3B Farm and Homestead here in beautiful upstate New York. You can find us on YouTube and on Facebook. Why am I a member of the Abundant Permaculture members area? Well, I'm a member for 4 main reasons. Number 1, I'm a member because while I was blessed to grow up in the homesteading lifestyle, there is so much to learn. And so it's an opportunity for me to learn not just from Justin and Rebecca, but from other like-minded individuals as well. Number 2, it's because it's an opportunity for me to give back. I've been blessed to learn some things the hard way, and I've been blessed enough to sometimes have some successes. And so I want to be able to share that with other people, and being able to do that through the members area gives me that opportunity. Number 3, it's because of the community. I want to be able to connect with other like-minded individuals, and quite frankly, some other places aren't friendly, but the Abundant Permaculture members area is. And finally, it's an opportunity for me to be able to help support the Rhodes family that has inspired me so greatly. If you're not a member already, join us. You'll see what I mean.
So whether or not you're in the member area, hopefully you're inspired by these guys' story to just plant, essentially. Now, we would love to have you inside the member area. We can help you, not just me But those people you saw in the video and others across this country, we come together and help each other. We're this amazing community getting things done together. You feel a lot less isolated, a lot, a lot less lonely. I want you to consider getting in on that. The spring registration is up until April 15th. The annuals and the premiums are not coming back until the fall. We may do something with the the standard membership a little bit later, something more evergreen. But with those other ones, it's just limited now for the spring. So get in there, check it out. I'd love to see you guys on that other side. I'll leave the link for that down in the description. Oh, and while we're talking, while we're rolling, you're getting 2 videos this weekend. Normally just weekdays, but this one and then tomorrow. We, we did so much going on the farm, we had to do an update video, and I'm glad we did because we We received over 7,000 pounds of feed. Of course, we documented that. I'll put that up tomorrow, guys. Just a regular— well, it's not a regular vlog, it's more of an update vlog, kind of like what we do during the 100 Days of Growing Foods. Yeah, one of those kinds, because there's so much going on it's hard to put it all in the vlog. Update vlog coming tomorrow.
