A family documents a day of health experiments including mouth-taping, continuous glucose monitoring, and intermittent fasting while building a pig fort and garden kitchen. The narrator tracks specific macros (151g protein and fat each) and reacts to real-time glucose readings, all while kids help with carpentry and homestead chores.

Mouth breathing at night can raise your blood sugar, so I tape it. What you making? Egg. Actually beeping this morning when I checked this earlier. Sensor error, try again later. Had the lowest glucose reading yet, 76. It was beeping because it was low. That's the second thing I've been doing, and that's a glucose monitor. It helps me realize what sugar or carbs are doing to my blood sugar. The third thing, I forgot to do it before I started training, so I'm gonna do that right now. Lumen.
Hold your breath. Exhale in 3, 2, 1.
Stage 3, that's not good. That means I'm not burning fat. Adding protein to your diet is great. Yeah, you don't have to tell me that. Helps with growth, skin, and muscle repair. 90 95% of my diet is protein. The thing about the Lumen is it lets me know what kind of carbs I should eat that day, what kind of fat, and what kind of protein. I need the 63.
What'd you say?
Ah, shoot. What I feared was true. I've knocked off my sensor. This morning I'm walking through this tiny cabin.
Boop.
Pulled this thing out and then I heard the beeping. I wonder if that's what— No, no, no, no, no, no, but if we have coverage— No, with full auto, if we all—
No, I'm done. I'm saying like we can each run behind.
Morning.
Good morning.
Good news, bad news? Which one you want first?
I don't know.
There's nothing devastating.
Oh, okay.
I wouldn't present it to you that way if it was.
What's the bad news?
Uh, I was walking through here this morning.
Oh!
Yeah.
Did it hurt? No. Oh, that's good. I was gonna text the doctor or message the doctor today.
Yeah.
And ask for a new sensor so we could use it on your phone.
Yes, because this reader is so 2000.
Oh, 1990. It's so terrible.
It's so bad.
And what's the good news?
Good news is I felt good this morning. My feet were not in that much pain. You know what? The sensor went off afterwards saying it was low glucose, 76, so I don't know if that's because sensor went off. I was very strong in my training.
Good. Let me be free.
These new, like, fake turf nesting pads They're working, they're working nice, and they're durable. Hey, where are y'all?
What?
What are y'all doing?
Playing.
Hey, do you not have chores to do? You're in the hay fort. It's happening today, supposed to be happening. Duck work coming to the homestead house remodel. The wall frame next to the basement wall for the garden kitchen. In contact with the plumber and the framer for the future bathroom here. Definitely want a wall between the bathroom and kitchen.
Hey, good morning. Good morning. What's the project today, Papa? Oh, there's ice inside this entire— oh golly.
We're working on the pig port.
All of us.
I'm gonna find a job to do with the machine.
Instead of working on the pig port? You don't want to work on the pig port?
I'll probably collect the broth.
Did you guys keep the calf separated? Okay, she's got milk. We're gonna test it. All right, there's no reason to test. You can see the difference, still yellow. I give up on that teat. Done what we can. We'll just always milk that teat out to the ground. Mom and Jonah going to the co-op de-icing. We're on this mission to defund the grocery store, but because the house remodel, we didn't do much gardening. A lot of our fruits and vegetables are having to be bought right now. Co-op's one step better than the grocery store, right? If we were carnivore, we wouldn't have to worry about That's true. We grew plenty of meat. How am I going to convince everybody to go carnivore? I don't think I'm going to.
Good.
Carnivore. Too bad you're going.
Yeah, that works real good with a woman. Too bad, woman, we're going carnivore. How would that go over? Let's try it when she comes out. We'll try it. Feeling all right, Josiah? No, I'm feeling okay. Do you need some water or something? Hey, Beck.
Hey, what?
You don't have to go to the co-op today. We're all just gonna be carnivores.
I said you're funny. Too bad we had to pay for it.
Hey, Gideon said that would work. Just tell you.
Just to tell you?
Yeah, just tell you.
He's gonna be a carnivore?
Well, he said we could go, we could all go carnivore, and then we have to go to the grocery store. And I said, just to get everybody else on board. And he said, oh, you just say it. Yeah!
Gideon. Bless him.
What you gonna do without your hummus, buddy? It doesn't go over that good, does it?
Woo!
He's a 9-year-old.
We might get in trouble if we take away her hummus. Ow! Ow! What are you making?
Trying to make a pig fort. All right. I need a big board.
And what do you need?
I just need you to hold it right.
Okay. Are we building a pig fort or are we building tables? Table!
Table!
All right, let's go.
Well, I need you to hold the board for I can screw in there.
Hey, you got to be going straight into it, okay? Hey, you're done! Oh, it's a chair.
Yeah, okay, cool. It's a little bench, and I'm gonna make a little table.
All right.
Ever notice how you don't have to teach kids anything? You don't. You just gotta let their curiosity go, and today they've given themselves a shop lesson.
Too bad I didn't cut these, and I— too bad I didn't cut these so it would be shorter.
Yep. Just a little chair?
Yeah.
Okay. I don't take it you guys want to go with me quite yet, huh?
Yeah.
I need one of your drills though.
I'm about to go.
I just have to screw this one thing in.
Oh, well let's help him with this one thing and I'll take his drill.
I'm trying to get it out but it won't come out.
Let's see it. I like it. It's amazing. It's only been a little over a week And today I feel like I had a breakthrough, and at least with my feet I'm feeling so much better. We've erected one wall. We need to lift this other wall, match it, and then do a crossbeam. I could fall at any moment. I don't know how that's standing there. 6 inches right there. Anyway, it looks like it might be right down there. All right, Lily, can you hold that one? I'll screw this in. Once that's in and that's in, we'll be pretty steady. The higher up you hold it, the easier it is to be stable. All right, it's probably off now, but I think putting this on will straighten it out.
It fell.
I think it's too much to count on the kids. Let's, uh, put in some safety measures here. We're calling it right there for today. We have it braced. It's much safer. Don't need kids to hold it up. And tomorrow we can start putting on the roof. Wow, this is your finished good? Yeah. Got you a little desk. Uh-oh. Not a good sign when you're under a blanket and it's 72 in here. And you have a throw-up bowl next to yourself.
This is not my bowl, but Henry does keep telling me that he thinks he's gonna puke. This is why the bowl is here. It's not me. It's not for me. But Josiah. He does not look well.
He looks—
how do you like your new chairs? Look at these chairs he built. He likes it. Yes, yes, he keeps saying I like it. Oh man. Oh, he's asleep. Are you a crazy horse lady?
Yes.
Good luck. You don't have enough horse pictures?
No.
Whole wall isn't enough?
Yes.
I want to have my bed right here where this shelf is. And I'm gonna move this shelf and this shelf over here.
Okay.
And then I'm gonna move all my horse pictures to this wall.
Alright, it's your room.
I hope we're not living here the next time we shoot.
I know, right? Hopefully we're back in our house. The fourth stunt I'm doing to lower blood sugar is to intermittent fast. It's almost 12 o'clock. We try to eat by 12. It's probably gonna be a little late. But intermittent fast. Let's get this lunch on. I'm blending half pork, half Flossie. Flossie's a little lean. Oh, if you don't know, Flossie's our old milk cow that we've turned into hamburger.
Not just hamburger!
What? What else?
Didn't we harvest anything but hamburger off her?
That's it. Some chuck roasts.
Then we call it beef because it's two things.
What intermittent fasting is, that's like 16 hours without food, so just basically skipping breakfast.
Hot.
I want to hear it sizzle, and I don't want to have to add any fat to this. That's one thing about the, the Lumen. It has revealed to me that I'm not eating enough fat. Basically, it's telling me I need as much fat as I need protein. I have gotten hooked on these US Wellness Meats 25% already pattied beef burgers, but that's not what we grow. So I'm trying to find better ways to enjoy what we did grow, both this pork and beef. So far so good, plenty of grease in the bottom of this pan. This is the 7th thing. You mean a tablespoon or just a teaspoon? I'm gonna try not to make a face.
I don't know exactly. I just said it's good for you. Stabilize.
Gotta do it right before you eat.
So another reason why I took it before was to help my stomach acid.
Yeah.
So I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I don't feel good.
Wow, I really don't feel good.
We got another bug going around the house?
No, well, just I am. It's like, yeah.
It's like we were Dean Flossie. Needs more salt.
Oh, can I have some?
I think we're good. Hopefully he's just beat up after the sickness. He's just tired. You feeling better? Yeah? Maybe it's just the residue of this cold we all got. Coolest thing about the Lumen? I'm gonna update what I just ate. I'll try to record this so you guys can see this. So we go to nutrition. Yeah, it's telling me what I need. It's saying it's a low carb day. That's probably because I'm burning, uh, just as much sugar as I am fat. But it says I need 151 grams of protein, 151 grams of fat, so just the same amount. You can go in here to log food and look up food that's already in the catalog. Ground pork, how much did I eat? Probably 6 ounces ground beef, maybe a tenth of an onion. Let's see what my lunch is. 90 grams protein, 65 grams fat. So we're gonna need to get some more fat in at dinner. Gotta put on the walking shoes for this. Shall we go see what he's doing? Yeah, he's got an idea for the pond bank so that the kids don't track it up. Getting in and out of the pond. What? That is pretty cool. He's made natural steps up out of the pond. That way if they're just getting out on the bank, they've been wearing it out. And this, you won't wear that out. And that looks so good. Yeah. And what's, what's this? This is a little retaining wall. Yeah, let's go on our walk. Wrong way, let's go! Come on, get in! This is definitely one of the longer time commitments. A 15-minute walk after each meal. So 30 minutes. Plus the transitions. Getting ready for it and then at the end, unready for it? Or ready for your next thing?
1, 2, 3.
So my 6th natural remedy is walking, which should help digestion. It's good for my body. It's definitely going to be good for the blood sugar. A bonus, and what's gonna probably make it all worth it for me, it's good for the mind. The thoughts I have during this mundane activity— well, I mean, not today, not with them two. Between 2, sometimes 3 walks a day, I'm often alone, and especially at night, you can't see nothing else, and you're just— I just get in this zone, and I come up with all kinds of productive ideas.
Wow, look at this, bro.
Sour cream, straight up, like a test. I'm addicted to sour cream so much. I love it. I just can't get enough of it. Have you ever seen this? You ever seen this, Beck?
Yeah.
That's his second helping. What'd you make us for supper?
Indian chicken and raita and rice.
Okay, your favorite. You all right? You feeling better or worse?
Feeling better.
Okay. Looking at my plate, I figured I probably needed to add more fat. Put a lot of butter on there. I'm probably still gonna need more fat, so I'm gonna do an avocado as well.
All right, classic.
Wow, super blackout, super black. And then they had 90% dark chocolate, then they had a total blackout. Wow, total blackout's too much.
I know it's 100% no sugar, but let's see if 90 is too much.
I'm taking it to the extreme. I did, uh, Bulletproof Coffee with maple syrup. Once on this, spiked it. It was by itself.
Gideon!
Mmm.
Mmm.
What?
Can you please put it on the table for Lily? I want to like it. It's pretty bitter. But they say dark chocolate can actually bring it down.
But dark chocolate's sweet.
Try it.
I don't think you'll like it. It's super black.
I want to see her try it.
Here, have one.
Come on, try it.
A little bit. I'll try it. Do you like it?
I'll try it. I'm very excited.
Do you like it?
Um, very bad.
I think I'll stick with the 85. Didn't quite make my fat goals either.
Dark chocolate is awful.
Only had 1 gram of carbs. Well, plus this. I didn't make my protein goals either, so I'm not gonna eat any more though. We got this cold I'm just not hungry. Anyway, it's helpful. I came, I came very close. Still one more thing I've added. Yeah, and it's a pharmaceutical, uh, low-dose Naltrexone just before bed. All right, happy day, y'all.
