EVERYONE’s Sick in our 280 sq/ft Bus Conversion

In this vlog-style update, the family living in a 280‑square‑foot bus conversion recounts a rough 48‑hour period of illness affecting multiple children. Speaker B describes caring for a feverish child prone to febrile seizures, the lack of sleep, and the challenges of feeding and hygiene while confined to the tiny space. The parents lament missing a scheduled filming session with chef Curtis Stone, explain how the illness has delayed their planned content about his farming model, and outline a broader travel‑and‑filming itinerary that includes stops at Paul Gauci’s farm, Eden, Oregon, California (San Francisco, Bishop, San Diego), and a final flight to Hawaii. Throughout, they mention coping mechanisms such as Netflix, plans for smoothies, and the emotional toll of feeling “bummed” and worried about how locals perceive them. The update ends with a hopeful note that the children are improving and that they may resume filming soon.
Chapters
But when they're sick, it helps a lot when you're in 280 square feet. Super bummed today. Super bummed. Can't hang out with Curtis. Another one bites the dust. This time it's me and Jonah. Got sick last night. Got a little fever. Aches. This thing's rough and people just aren't, aren't, aren't getting quite better. What's wrong with you now? You were so strong, but then I got sick. I'm sorry, buddy. And this one, how you doing, buddy? Are you any better? No? This is when, uh, Netflix comes in handy. We don't do much screens, but when they're sick, it helps a lot when you're in 280 square feet. How you feeling, Lily?
Good.
Not too terribly convincing. You did get dressed though. That's a good sign. Uh, the beautiful one checking out, uh, Hawaii Airbnbs, planning that trip today. How was last night?
It was probably the worst night I've ever had as a mom. Doing pretty good to go that many years. Yeah, with that little sleep, but man, it was rough. Um.
Cuz this little man did not sleep like this.
Yeah, bless his heart. He had fever all night long and I tend to worry about all that because he is prone to febrile seizures. So mama, mama bear in me is— I tend to— wake up at any little movement and check him and make sure he's okay and then other kids needed help and Justin was sick, so— you know, I took a lot of it, but that's okay. I mean, you know, it's just one night and it's my job as a mom. And actually, I did a lot of things that they didn't even ask for, so I was up kind of just checking in on everybody. Every time I would wake up, I would get up and make sure that everybody was okay. So I'm super tired. I think I got 5 hours of sleep total. And I don't think I got more than an hour and a half at a time.
Here's the deal. We were gonna just play with Curtis Stone today. Super bummed because I— he's my friend now and I would have liked to talk to him and hung out, but we were just gonna go on a hike into the farmers market. So as far as like Curtis Stone farming content, we're not missing out on anything because we weren't gonna film his farm today. We're gonna film that Sunday. Hopefully make a special movie on how he does it, on how he makes $100,000 a year on a quarter of an acre, y'all. And making that video so that you guys can do that. And he has a model where you can start part-time where you make $22K a year, and you pretty much work after work and work on the weekends. So I want to get more into that, and we'll be thinking about that. Hopefully we'll get better by Sunday. We're thinking about, do we need to shift things after this? After this, guys, we go down to Paul Gauci, back to Eden. He's probably the number one requested person for this, and we'll make a special movie on that. I figure we're going back to Eden, so we're going to see what he's doing, what he's changed, those types of things. And then we travel on down through Oregon, got some features in Oregon and then California. Gonna go to San Francisco. The kids want to see the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm going to go see some of my family in Bishop, California. And eventually we're going to end up in San Diego. It's going to be huge. Primal Pastures. Then fly to Hawaii from there. It's much cheaper to fly to Hawaii from San Diego than our home in North Carolina. So we're going to do Hawaii now like we did Alaska from Seattle. Same deal. A lot cheaper. So I'm going to end— I'm going to cut out right here. We'll do another update, I don't know, at lunchtime, but I'm a little bummed because I was thinking everybody would just get over this, whatever this is, it's mean. And I thought that it would just be a 24-hour bug, but it's going on 48 hours. I haven't even eaten because of my tooth surgery. Because my tooth pulled out, I didn't want to eat. And now sick, I haven't eaten anything to speak of since Wednesday. It's Saturday. All right, we'll check in at 12. At least I'm able to get up and about, pick up a little bit. Well, lunch came and went. Did anybody eat?
No.
Huh? Nobody ate? Anybody feeling better? Yeah. You guys are? You still look terrible. They're not throwing up anymore. But Jonah is. Jonah, you doing all right? Yes. You gonna be okay?
Yes.
I'm pretty sure everybody slept. Nobody ate, although they do want watermelon, but we already ate all the watermelon. Maybe Beauty's gonna be able to go out. She feels okay. Get us some watermelon. There's also rumor of an orange juice strawberry smoothie. So maybe that's in our future. We lost our sheet. Mr. Brown threw up last night and apparently we don't have an extra sheet like we thought we do. So we're right now in towels. It's almost 4 o'clock. Probably the last check-in, but look, we're outside. Yeah. Oh my gosh. Even if he is laying on the picnic table. Are you getting better?
He is.
You know how to rest.
He does. He is getting better. He's getting better. He's talking. He's being chatty. He is laying down way more than I've ever seen him lay down.
I can't wait to see him running again, huh?
I know, but he is sitting up and he's smiling and he's talking and telling me things, so that makes me feel better that he is getting better. And I have hope that tomorrow may be a good day. I hope it will be. I don't want to— I don't want this to be my impression of Canada. British Columbia.
Ah, yes. These people must think we're nuts because we've pretty much been inside that bus for 2 days?
Since Thursday. We pulled in Thursday night.
All the way from North Carolina.
We pulled in Thursday night and this is like literally the first time I've stepped outside of that bus, so.
Yeah.
Justin left yesterday. But there's been no more. And then today though, we didn't even leave today. Like, I just went out to do some laundry.
No, I didn't even go. I couldn't go nowhere. I feel like maybe I could now. I think I am gonna have the strength tomorrow morning to film that movie with Curtis on how he does it, 100K on a quarter of an acre. I'm hoping. I think if I continue at this rate, I'll be better.
No, you're still a little swollen too.
We'll have you guys rest. We were gonna leave Monday, but we've prolonged that so that we can maybe shoot a little bit more with Curtis on Monday with the kids and everything.
I know, I'm super bummed. Like, we came all the way to his town, I haven't even been able to meet him.
Yeah.
I guess I did meet him in Asheville once, but I want to go to his place and I want to see his little girl. She's super cute.
Yeah, uh, was the, uh, strawberry Orange juice smoothie at Rumor?
Well, there's no orange juice. I have to go buy it.
It was a rumor. It was a dirty rumor going around the bus.
I might just make a strawberry banana one for the kids.
Okay.
And you, I guess.
Would you like that?
You like a smoothie.
Would you like a smoothie? Wow.
He does. He does want a smoothie. He does. He told me earlier that he wanted a smoothie.
You do? No answer. Alright, checking out. See you guys tomorrow.
