Family of Six About to LIVE in this Bus (for 2017)

This content was created by Victor Justin Rhodes. This content was uploaded by Victor Justin Rhodes. This is a YouTube family vlog titled "Family of Six About to LIVE in this Bus (for 2017)" (uploaded/recorded around 2017-01-02). The excerpt is an on-site audio transcript of a family—several adults (one named Stacy) and children—touring and finishing a converted bus on New Year’s Day, discussing beds, bathroom and heater work, inspector/registration details, finishing trim/painting, pets (chickens and a pig named Daisy), games with the kids, and what each family member looks forward to in 2017 (traveling, zipline, mermaids in Florida, sleeping on the bus, trying new foods). The tone is informal and documentary/vlog-like, capturing planning, progress updates, and family interactions during the bus build and their plans to live/travel in it.
Chapters
It's New Year's Day and you know what they say. They say however you spend your New Year's Day is how you're gonna spend your year. So how appropriate it is that we're at the bus build. Checking everything out. Almost done. Delivering some goods. It is almost done. Is that not awesome? Where's the bathroom? Well, you can't get lost in here. You just walk down the hallway and you'll find something.
Yeah, look.
So nice.
Are you gonna be a toilet?
Yeah, there's gonna be the toilet. Lily, you know which one's your bed?
Um, yeah.
Okay, that one's gonna be yours, that right there, Lily. And Josiah, you're up here. Is that cool with you?
Yeah.
Good. He's finishing out his trim work. I see everything's looking good. Getting that open access. Our heater, it needs a little work. Happy New Year, Stacy!
Happy New Year!
I see what you're going to be doing all year.
What am I doing?
Painting or playing basketball. Jeff, Happy New Year! Happy New Year, buddy! You're a working machine. It's going to be a great new year. It's Sunday and a holiday and we're out here working. Yes, fantastic. Yes, there's no better thing to do. That's right. All right, let's see this, Beck.
You want to see it? I'm trying to get all of the white done today.
And that—
and then I'm gonna finish the doors, the blue doors that need to be done right here.
Okay.
And then the pantry doors, and then touch-up will be like—
yeah, Wednesday.
And you want to see this, uh, cedar bathroom?
See the bathroom? Whoa, it looks so good!
Like, really smelled so good when he was cutting the one.
It smells so good in here. Like, you can smell it.
You could smell it when you cut it outside.
Oh man, this is so nice. You got your little— yeah, we got a little shelf here.
You can stick some stuff in.
I know he couldn't, he couldn't do a very big shelf there because he said, I just— every way I worked it, I just envisioned you hitting your head on it. I said, just make it so that we don't hit our head on it.
Did you bring the tile today?
I did. It's in the, it's in the car, and I brought our temp tag so that we can— so that it's like all legal. We have like— I have the— I'm gonna— I brought like our insurance thing to keep in here and our registration. And the inspector has, um, the inspector is going to try to come this week and he's gonna call me first and then I'm gonna give him— he has the address but I'm gonna like let him know what— where exactly it'll be.
And he's coming, he's coming too.
Yeah, it has to have like running water or something, right? I mean, does it have to be working?
It doesn't have to be working, right? I told him, I was like, well, our water things haven't gotten here yet. And so he's like, okay, well, like, do you have a place where, you know, you have like a faucet, a sink, a kitchen?
You only have to have 4 of 6 requirements.
Yeah, I know. I was like, it's like almost done in here.
It looks like a home.
Well, and the reason they're saying that is because they don't want to make—
they want to make sure—
yeah, and they want to make sure that it's not where we're not going to like pull all this stuff out and then use it as a commercial bus and like haul people, which I'm not gonna do that.
You're not gonna have a party bus?
No, we're not.
We're not doing that. Get on it. Get on it. You get it? Yeah. Ready?
Oh, you want to play a game?
Yeah.
Okay, it's called popcorn. Everybody, everybody hang on to your knees. Okay, everybody's hanging on to their knees. Come on, Josiah. No, do it, Jonah. Hang on like Ella. Now I'm gonna jump you, and the last one to let go of their knees wins. Okay, ready? So you gotta hang on. Oh, Josiah's out.
Oh, Jonah's out. Ella's the champ.
You went down. You want to jump? Watch Mr. Brown jump.
He's jumping.
Okay kids, I got another game. This time everybody stand up. Do not jump. See who can stay standing. Okay, you guys ready? You guys ready? Yeah. Okay, see if you can stay standing. I got Mr. Brown. Ready? Okay, I got another game for us kids. Listen, you guys got to do— I guess this is called monkey see monkey Tricky-Doo. Ready? You gotta copy what I do. I'm gonna do a trick first and then you have to do it. Okay? Okay, Mr. Brown, stand right over here. Stand right there. Okay, ready? Okay, watch. To your butt and back up. Oh, that's— oh, just second. Oh, Jonah did it. Ellie, can you do it? Oh, okay, try again, Jonah. You see Hammy? You want to pet Hammy? Here. You want to pet Hammy? Air. Yeah, did he lick your hand? He's scared of me. He's not scared of you though. That's nice. Yeah, you want to go see the chickens and Daisy? Yeah, here they are. You remember our birds? Jeff's got some mulch down for them, some straw bales. That's nice. They're looking good. And look at this, the chicken is out. Look at Daisy. Hey Daisy, you said you got her a present for Christmas. What is it? Oh look, look, get in. Oh, what a good present for a pet pig. Are you gonna lay down, Daisy?
Usually she—
yep, there she goes. Oh wow. She likes her belly being rubbed. He loves it. You go around.
Come on, come on.
Now go around, round. I mean, round. Yay, boy! His first trick. Well, besides pooping in the kitty litter. Yep. One more.
Come on, come on.
Round, round. Good boy. Jeff, I have a hitch in here for Brian for whenever he comes and gets the, uh, bus. Where could I put it? Um, let's put it with my tools. Okay, out here. You can grab that in. Yep, pretty heavy. Now there's the tile.
Yes, so we're gonna put that in the bathroom.
Okay, it's gonna look great.
And then here's our tag.
The welder's coming on Friday to pick it up. He's got his CDL so he can drive it from here to his shop. He'll put on the hitch, put on, put on the underbelly storage and all kinds of other stuff. Bye-bye, y'all. See you guys.
Bye, guys.
We will see you when we're gonna see him again, maybe Friday. So Brian's gonna come get the bus on Friday. We're gonna be in school and probably will not be able to make that.
Well, we're hoping that maybe we can make it, so we're just gonna wait and see, and we'll know more Tuesday.
Thank you. You're doing a good job. Enjoy your Happy New Year. Yep. Happy New Year. We're back home. The beautiful one made a beautiful dinner. That's fitting. Living up to your name with your cooking. Oh, thanks. Look what it is. Black-eyed peas and collards. That's a traditional New Year's Day meal. Why?
It means it will bring prosperity in the new year.
Mr. Brown. What are you looking forward to in 2017? What did he say?
I have no idea.
Does anybody know what he said?
Ah! Ah! He likes to sleep. I think he likes to sleep in the bus, I guess.
Oh, you're looking forward to sleeping in your little bed in the bus. Lily, what are you looking forward to most in 2017?
Sleeping at people's houses and seeing mermaids at Florida.
Yeah, seeing the mermaids in Florida. It doesn't surprise me you said that. That's awesome. Alright, big guy. What are you looking forward to most?
Um, going to a big old zipline.
Oh, going to a big zipline. Is that on the agenda, Mom? I guess. Okay, well, we might have to add that one. I'm sure we'll see something like that along the way. Yeah. What are you looking forward to most 2017, big guy?
Trying new foods, sleeping on the bus, and traveling.
New foods. I like that.
I'm looking forward to the traveling and just meeting people and enjoying my new surroundings.
I think I look forward to the simplicity that is living in a small area on a bus and all the new things I'm gonna learn and experience. God knows how many new— I mean, our minds are gonna like explode because we're gonna learn so much, so much, so many different things. It's going to be absolutely crazy. Things we never even thought about learning or that we needed or wanted to learn, right?
