Finally, the hard work payed off

Victor works through a full day on the homestead with Becky and the kids, sorting hens, milking cows, and moving pens. They pack over 150 book orders and ship them out. Victor shares he's recovered from reactive arthritis and can now move a 16 by 16 foot pen on his own.

These are our fat hens. Well, most of them are fat hens. They have just come to laying age. Let me introduce you to a fat hen. This is like a, um, probably a Red Star, and they're prolific egg layers, gonna be big-boned, hopefully gonna stay in sheep mode. I'm trying to figure out what should go into the yard and which should go into the field.
Can I please hold this chicken?
Well, I don't know if that chicken enjoys that as much as you do. That one stays out here, okay? Okay. Now this one, I think Mom bought some, you know, different kind that, that are like Easter egg and not necessarily fat. I'm thinking that's one that goes to the yard.
All black.
Shoot, there were a bunch of them escaping out the back. This goes to mom right here.
Oh, I'll get that one, don't worry.
Get the one in the back there. Get in on the perch with the yellow legs. It's Lou. There it is. Get in right there. The yellow legs.
This one, Papa.
The one behind all them. See it?
This one. This one.
There it is. See it? See it? Yep, that's it. That's it. Good job. Don't let it go. I just put one in and two got out. Are there any more skinny hens in there? No, I don't think there are. You gotta chase it down. There's one.
What one?
There it is. Here it is, Josiah. Whoa, see, that one definitely has to go to the yard. We're gonna go catch it now, Josiah. We're just gonna have to catch them tomorrow. Dang it, our nest box fell out when it did a a willy, and they got out. But look here, look at that. You scared her back in. We'll, uh, we'll get it. We'll have to get them tomorrow.
Papa?
Yeah?
There's 19 eggs.
Well, nice. We need the big ladies who will actually stay in a sheep net, which has a bigger mesh. I'll let you feed the other half once I get it There's a little one, little scrawny thing. We need to get the little scrawny things out of here and into the bulletproof Breakfast Posse fence in the front yard. Have you guys noticed I'm getting around? I mean, my feet are hurting like crazy, but I'm able to move them. I have the flexibility in my joints again. I'm getting better, I'm getting better. I'm kicking this reactive arthritis. And I just moved a 16 by 16 sheet pen by myself. These are our water connections and our— I love the grid connections for our electric fence. See, we run our strand of electric down to the fence. Oh, I wouldn't have tried to catch two at once, but you did it. I guess we got a new permaculture ninja master. That's the ones we're looking for. Do not go inside, Gideon. The word on the creek is Jonah's inside sitting down. The deal was you would stay inside and clean up. Let's go see what's going on. I heard on the creek you're sitting down in there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Here, let's feed these cats, Lily. I said to come when you're done.
I'm not done.
Oh wow. What happened? You sitting down?
I wasn't.
You sure?
He told me to say that.
You feeding them? Good, thanks. Let's take this down to the pigs. Here, you want to hold that?
That's some natural dewormer.
I've heard pumpkin seeds— Gideon! I can't make this stuff up, guys. Where are you going? Okay, Gideon, Gideon, come, let's go. And Mom, I know, had a bad night's sleep because I woke up at like 4 in the morning and the light was on and she was reading. Did you keep Mom up? Oh my word, just— I pointed this out. How's the chicken supposed to get in here? Well, that's a crate. Normally these crates have— we've cut out the front, see? And they make perfect nesting boxes because the material, the dirt falls through the bottom, but the hay doesn't. It's great. A bunch of eggs. All right, well, let's get them out. Let's get our bucket. You want to get the eggs, Lily?
Sure.
You sure do look nice this morning in your purple dress. Henry, you still fighting it? Little egg, tiny egg. Let's hope and pray this water is on. It's on. I gotcha. Is he asleep? All right, we gotta get in. We got Henry asleep. Let's go ahead and wash it. It's 8:45, milking time. We do have a chiropractor appointment though. I need to find out when that is. We have to leave by 10. All right, we better hurry. I need to help Baroon at least with Flossie. She's a mess lately. We're training Flossie to get in the stanchion. She don't want to because she wants to be with her calf. Aren't you going to try to lead them and I'll push them? The idea is I'm going to try to push them. If I can get a hold of the calf, I will go ahead and get the calf up there. Doesn't look like we're able to catch the calf, so we're just going to try to herd them. We're trying to do either one. Either they'll herd or we'll catch the calf. Come on. She comes, she gets a nice reward. Good things happen in the stanchion, like alfalfa. Autumn knows we're gonna catch her. She's getting wise to us. There's nothing in there, so either the calf is getting it all, which wouldn't surprise me because the calf is extra vibrant. Or her milk still hasn't come in. But that's kind of weird because it's been over a week. Could be still colostrum, although the calf did have colostrum poop this morning. I saw that. So she's still giving colostrum. So it's— I imagine it's possible the milk hasn't come in. Well, it got easier today. Gets easier every day, doesn't it? That was a lot easier today. Yeah, I think she's getting the hang of it. She's had her alfalfa. We've let her out, and this is a good sign. She's not just rushing to her baby. Are you awake, my man? Yeah, he's up. Getting you going to milk today?
Yeah.
Look who's coming! She's got her chai and her eldest. Bet you $100 she misses her youngest. Good mama right there. You ready to go, buddy? Chiropractor. We are all getting seen. I'm going low profile, filming on the phone for this. Back from the chiropractor, feeling good. We gotta get it going on these orders. Looks like the post lady did not come back for the orders yesterday. Are these all new packaging?
That's 50. I saw them yesterday, so yeah.
Okay, we've got something like over 150 orders. It's gonna be 4 boxes. We've only got one left on that pallet, and then we've only got one pallet left. There's the labels. This is going to be pretty much the last call in the video. This video is going up Friday. Well, we're having a live webinar with Joel for all those who get a book or join Abundance Plus or get the book for free when you join Abundance Plus. Sunday, 3 PM Eastern. You don't want to miss it. Q&A. Looks like the post office didn't come yesterday, Beck. It's been fun packing books for you guys. And, and people are saying— people have already finished this book by now. Like, it's a— it's fun to read. And somebody said there's golden nuggets all over. This is, this is today's golden nugget: don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough. Oh, because we get caught up in analysis paralysis. We've got to know and everything. We've got to do everything just perfect. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good enough. It's so good. That right there is worth it.
Laura N, Rose S, and Chelsea T.
You're gonna miss packing, aren't you, Becca?
I will. In some weird way, I really do enjoy it.
She's gonna miss it. You still will.
And I like reading the names of people and like seeing where they're from and It's not just like patting them on the back.
It's like not just, uh, and she don't let anybody else label, so the beautiful one has touched everyone's label. Oh, you actually— I have let other people label. All right, I'm gonna get over here and sign some. Do I just sign over 150 more? We're putting a dent in this, guys. That's another thing. That's it. That's all we have left. We've sold over 3,000 A 4,200. I know how it goes. There's a rush at the end. See, the rush is on.
