Finishing Her Dream

In this vlog‑style walkthrough, the couple documents the final day of a busy week on their farm‑home property. They race to complete a pumpkin trellis before the pumpkins outgrow their greenhouse, confronting an aggressive bee (or wasp) nest that they attempt to relocate using a track loader and cattle panels. The speakers coordinate family helpers—Peter, Kaden, Josiah, Randolph, Jonah—and manage a slew of construction tasks: installing a new kitchen hood, reinforcing a master bathroom floor, finishing a staircase, and preparing for tile work. They discuss planting strategies for several pumpkin varieties, measuring spacing, applying compost and fish fertilizer, and dealing with a lingering injury. The narrative weaves personal moments (pizza night, gluten‑free dough, excitement about the house) with practical problem‑solving, ending on a hopeful note that the trellis is complete and the home renovations are on track.
Chapters
Last day of our week. I'm determined to finish this pumpkin trellis before it's too late. The pumpkins in the greenhouse are getting way too big for their britches and are gonna start suffering any day. Oh, we got a worker here very early. I believe we're getting our hood today. Never mind, that was a carpenter, which is also good. He's reinforcing our floor of our master Bathroom after we got all this extra tile and huge tub. Peter and I are gonna go get these cattle panels before these— call them bees, they're not bees, I don't know what they are— but before those things get active, the stinging things. They're black and white.
Some don't have— okay, some just have black tails.
They're more active today, probably because they're having to Rebuild. Wow, he's already on to me. No, not on to me. This is not going to work. We have to get those cattle panels in order to finish this. We need 3. Kaden says we have one in the woods, but that's one is not three. But these bees are very active. Let's try some spray. Ah, it doesn't work. It doesn't work. I got another idea.
What?
Track loader. Picking the cattle panels up, we can pick up the panels and move it, and hopefully the nest will fall off. Josiah, Josiah, can I get you on the track loader with the forks? Okay. Rubbed, rubbed. The plan is he's completely encompassed and maybe he can move these cattle panels without hurting them. Hopefully the nest will fall off. I got stung recovering this thing, back of the arm. Feel bad taking the bees home, home, but what are you gonna do? Take the 2 extras back. We slept good, by the way, last night. Henry didn't wake up every hour and a half with his little bee sting. It's doing better. Yesterday, full of energy, went all day, he's feeling it. I listened. Today, I feel tired even though we slept so good. I'm gonna try to inspect that and get this, get this down before we cut panel panels on there. We're going to do one piece to tie in all these. Let's take advantage of this cool morning sun right there. Oh, I could almost use a ladder. Kind of a puzzle piece. Let's try one of these. Get in, see if it bends nicely on that.
I don't think it will, but let's try it.
Hey, hey, it's going nicely. Keep going. That's probably about right. Very hard to get even. It's a little lower on this side. I should have drove my— well, I kind of like how tall this is. Although it could have been a little lower, huh? I like how tall it is.
We should call Bob down.
We're probably gonna have to put some panels there to get them up. Probably have to cut some, get in to help get the pumpkins up there. 2 down. About out of zip ties though, so yeah, who knew we'd go through 100 on this? Let's, uh, get the third one up before we run out of zip ties. Behind every woman's Dream garden.
There's a family who does a lot of work.
Okay, you're doing a lot in there. So it may be too high to start the pumpkins. What do you think? I might have to put some panels on the bottom unless they'll grow up.
Yeah, because we didn't— because we didn't put—
well, if you went lower, the arch would be lower, and I don't know about that. I kind of like how high it is, don't you? Yeah. So come show me the pumpkins that can go in there. Look at these pumpkins.
I know they look good.
About to outgrow their pots. So we're looking for the non-bushy ones. Yes, we want the viney ones.
Little Moonshine.
How close do you want to plant these? You can plant them 5 feet apart in the field.
So yeah, well, we're not doing that.
You want to plant them every 2 feet? Every foot? Okay. They're starting to yellow a little bit.
The Connecticut field is not an arch.
No arch. It says no arch.
Yes.
Well, that's everything.
These ones are the big—
the big boys don't arch. You don't want to hang a 200-pound pumpkin on an arch.
Pipsqueak can go on it too.
This pipsqueak, it's gonna have the beautiful one. Tape measure. Here's the tape measure. Put one on every pole and then one in between poles, and that's quite close enough. You don't need tape measure. And I'll even— I think I'll even get us a load of— get us a load of compost for Beautiful one is going to help me lay these out, and then she's going to start making pizza. We needed something a little different, didn't we, babe? Yes, we're gonna have a little pizza Friday night. So there's a number of varieties. This is what I do not want to mess up. You cannot fix this if you plant the wrong variety. So I'm kind of letting Beauty take charge on that, and then while she cooks, I can start start these things. All right, beautiful one has these things laid out. We definitely have to get them put in. They're going to be drying out. There's some fertilized water, fish fertilizer, soak the root balls real nicely. Pigs and Silage Tarp prep that garden bed right there. Finish that row. To finish this row, I'm starting to feel a bit run down. That sun is coming up. If you don't know, I've been injured a week ago, just recovering. They get an infection. I really need to listen to that and I really need to get inside. Leave this tarp. I'm gonna leave that. All right, that's not coming up too easy. As badly as I want to plant that entire row and get this ugly tarp out of here, I'm just gonna chill. I'm gonna get these planted, of course. I'm gonna be done. Sunday is another day. We did it! Pumpkin trellis is complete. Every time you plant something, it's a miracle. And we'll hope it survives. And for the most part, things want to survive, and they will. But it's always a miracle. Hot gardening work behind me. Let's check on the The cabinet guy is here with that hood. Let's see if he needs anything. We got the piece. Yeah, there it is. Walnut from the land. It came out all right. Look at it. Okay, doesn't that look good? Yes sir. Randolph's here too if you need help hanging it. Yeah, I'm gonna— I gotta just make a couple applications to this piece right here. Okay. And Randolph working on the boys' staircase, both those stove hood and staircase progress by end of day. Stay tight. I'm gonna have a hood by the end of the day.
Is that it?
Walnut. How's pizza making going?
It's going great. Just waiting for this to be done.
Nice. It's the dough.
This is the dough.
This is the hard part.
This is the gluten-free dough that I'm making.
Well, I guess they're both gluten-free.
This is gluten-free. The other one's grain-free for you.
Yeah. Looks like your hood is done. Wow, we're gonna have a little hood for the first time in our married career. What about the Burning Up Cookies show? We're not having no more show. No.
Well, y'all just have to turn it on.
There'll be no more smoke.
Imagine that, no more.
We're gonna have some mean episodes of Burning Up Cookies show right there under that.
I know. Wow, Randolph's protecting our stuff.
What do we do without Randolph? I think he properly— he protected the counters.
I told him, I asked him. Heck yeah, he fixed all the drawers. So that they all fit back in.
I'm excited about this house. I'm trying not to get too excited because we're close, but we're still so far away.
So here's my doors. He did that, and then he fixed these so that they're shorter.
Yeah, so that they fit.
Oh, we're ready for tile.
Tile, tile, tile, guys. He's full on. Boy, look at that. Look at that with the light. And the hearth paint, vinyl, electric, floor one more coat, and we're in here.
Yeah, let me go and call the gas company and see if they can do the safety check next week.
Okay, it's hard to pin them down to just like come and get the job done. They're like fitting us in sporadically.
I know, somehow we're not on the schedule. Other people are on the schedule, but we've never actually made it on schedule.
And Jonah has finished his shelf In the bash shed. Oh, look at this! You got the sprayer up there, the nest boxes, the pretty— how'd you get the pretty Shaw up there? This kid's too— oh, the mini me and the chicken tractor. I love it. And you organized— oh, look at the mineral sleds here underneath the gates. Wow, you organized the— can you guys see in here? Is it backlit? It's kind of backlit. Let's see how that helps. Look at this, and you organized the shed, man. Good job, good job. Proud of you. These are crazy for siding. You want people looking in here? I don't know, keeping the sides open keeps open options. You boys are taking over, so yes sir. You want siding?
Yeah, let's do it.
