Chapters
It's gonna be an absolutely crazy day in this food growing adventure of ours. We're getting a trained guard goose. Art and Bree are thinking about doing meat geese and don't want to mess up anything with Donald. For those of you longtime fans, we used to own Donald. Oh my word. Donald's up here and we gave him away to go on the farm tour. He's coming right on out. He's like, let me out! Now he's coming back. You guys super excited about that? Yeah, I'm super excited about that because those sea monsters will have a guard as soon as they go out on grass.
And yeah, he's a big guard.
Yes, he is. He's, he's mega trained. So we're not gonna have to worry about crows this year, are we?
Nope.
We don't even have to set our scarecrow out.
We've got maybe 25 minutes till milking time. I'm trying to decide if we should move the crop chicken. You always, you always want to put it off.
They're not done, they're not done.
You always want to put it off. If we don't move this now, we're gonna have to move it tomorrow or Monday. Why put off till tomorrow what you can do today? Hope I don't regret saying that. Problem number 1: we need a grounding rod. We've been sharing a grounding rod, which his broody hen and these guys. So we need to find an extra one. That's all he's got. See, that's way too big to be mobile on a mobile system, right? There's another big one. Hey, look at you, you found one! Wait, where'd you get that?
From the cows.
The cows?
There is way out in that field.
No, they're gonna be coming here while I'm gone.
Okay, better go put this one back.
There it is. Jonah! You guys said we need not walkie-talkies. Jonah, Jonah, Jonah, Jonah, come here!
Where'd you find that?
They're sitting right there where we like to keep it. That leaves us with 17 minutes. All right, this is so sad. All those vegetables left out, unused. This is why I'm so excited about getting pigs. We got the fence up. All right, one of the best parts of my day— animals on green grass. One minute. Technically, we're not quite done, but the chickens are out where they're supposed to be. So I guess I am glad we didn't put that off till tomorrow. Whoa! Thank you, Miss Stang. Thank you, Miss Stang. Thank you, Miss Stang. Thank you. Thank you.
Good morning!
Yes, good morning. Hey, you're looking nice today.
Thank you.
You excited?
I am. I'm going, um, I'm going to get Donald.
I know.
Yes, I talked to Brandon this morning. She said she's gonna miss him.
Today is Donald's last day. We are giving him back, and I did not realize how sad I was gonna feel about that until this day came.
Oh, he has a— he has a keeper.
Yes, we did talk about if he like— because he's really bonded to the ducks. Yeah, so if he like gets really down and sad, like, they'll take him back because they don't want him to like die. Because he's so sad, which I'm happy about.
Yeah, we'll have to watch him for stress.
Yeah, we're gonna watch him and just make sure that everything's okay. Hopefully he'll be fine.
Did you get their paddock up? Look, they're so happy. They're so happy. Doesn't this make you so happy? Cows on fresh grass every single day. There we go, we're all ready for Donald.
So we were at Art and Breeze today celebrating Joyful's birthday, and we're going to pick up Donald and bring him back to the holler, which is super exciting. Arthur is going to catch Donald for me, because let's face it, I'm not doing that. That's crazy. Where did he go? Over there. Oh, there he is. All right, so let's see how this is gonna go. You just gotta grab them by the neck. They're kind of crazy.
Oh, gotcha!
You made that easy. Brianna was just saying like she's gonna miss them so Yeah, the first thing I see when I walk out to the barn in the morning.
Yeah, I hear him at night. He wakes— like when I'm nursing the baby, I hear him at night.
Oh, he's sweet.
I really am gonna miss him.
Yeah, you're beautiful.
Isn't that amazing? Can he fly? Yeah.
Goodbye, Donald.
Okay, so Donald's in the back and we're hoping it's not a honking time.
We'll see though.
And we're off. He's doing good. He is.
I hope he doesn't honk right when I close my ears.
We just made it home and Donald did really good. There's only a little bit of honking.
I'll go tell him to come.
Yes, please tell Papa to come.
The girls are back. How was the party?
Good.
Oh, left me hanging. Okay, well, we're excited about seeing Donald again.
He's a bit grumpy.
Be easy on him.
If I were you, buddy, I would not like it.
Okay, Rebecca and I haven't talked exactly about what to do with him. Parts of me says leave him in the cage till night and then put him in the coop, and the other part says just get him out and get him with some chickens.
Put him in with his friends.
Put him in. What do you say? Well, then he should probably go in the coop tonight.
Yeah, he's a good-looking— he's a good-looking goose.
We could put him in, uh, the brooder stall until tonight.
Okay, I know.
You think that's a good idea?
No.
Yeah, you can set him down. All right, that's it. He's doing his job. Not yet. Donald, you're back! That's amazing! We got Donald back! Gives me chills. All right, come on, he's had enough stress. All right, it's time to get Donald, put him in the coop with everybody else. It's best to introduce members of the new posse at night, least amount of stress. You'll have time to settle in, they'll have time to settle in. Hopefully they'll wake up like, oh, you're back.
What? Oh boy, how are you going to catch him?
I don't know. He's, uh—
Oh, Poppy wants this door too.
You make me pull him.
Oh, he's— Come now, look, this door.
You got him, Papa.
Now we gotta put the crate back. Look, look, look, look, look.
I want to hold his head real up close to his mouth so he can't get me. Okay. All right, now I've got Donald here. We're about to put him in. It's gonna be interesting to see how he reacts. Hopefully the rooster isn't up close. He's just kind of walking in there. Well, it's working. He just settled in there. We have to let them out first thing in the morning. It's the next morning. I don't hear any commotion. I'm gonna see if Donald— how Donald did all night. He's in there. The rooster's intact. I was half thinking they might fight. Donald's kind of clamoring his way out.
That's good.
Look! I think Donald's gonna be all right. All right, next vlog, next vlog, we're on our way to get pigs. We have our farm sitter here and Rebecca and I are going to get pigs. Yes!
