How I Got These Two Sparky Pigs In A Trailer and to the Forest

Victor and family move two newly acquired pigs from the barn to a forest pasture, setting up a temporary water line and portable fencing. They milk cows for about 2 gallons, gather eggs, and spend the morning coordinating to lure the pigs into a trailer using feed, working through equipment issues and minor setbacks before celebrating the successful move.

Right here. Good job. That piglet's coming in very handy. Oh boy. Started going to bed an hour early. Lights out by 9:30. We slept extra for a while, but now we're getting up. Even these guys.
We've got up at 5.
Yeah, so it's still dark, but it is rainy. Uh, the cows are here ready to go. We're only 30— well, 30 minutes early, guys. Double gifts today.
What would be nice is if you could get a gate put in right here, and then you could just block this and let the cows roam.
It's gonna be fun. So is there an audiobook you'd like to listen to?
My Father's a Mountain. Well, not My Father's Mountain. Uh, the far side of the mountain.
I'm gonna let you pull it up while I'm doing it. She's going to get herself in trouble. Look at that milk, 30 minutes early, 2 gallons easy. Just trying to pick this up. All right, well, you guys switch them out. I guess that's 16 some odd pounds of food this morning. I just harvested— I just harvested 16 pounds of food. And talk about convenience. This is my grocery store, y'all. I just went and picked up milk. Everybody's freaking out, going and getting milk, bread, and toilet paper. Well, we don't eat bread, that's easy. The milk's right there. Got to ladle this.
I came to get a package. Uh, Rebecca wanted me to—
it's right here, Grandma. Both of them are right here. Look, he's woke up! Actually, he's been awake for hours, I think.
He just called us right here.
Oh, thank you.
You're loyal. You just sit in the bed. You're loyal like us.
He is such a good little boy.
You're loyal. He did drop a fat turd right there and right there. And I'm glad I was the one to step in it, not you.
I'm not the one who's stepping in it.
Oh yeah, this is a good boy. Rebecca, you wanted your quiet time this morning, didn't you? I did. And what happened?
Justin woke up Jonah and Josiah, and guess who woke up with him?
Mr. Brown, but somehow I got him back to bed. Did I get off the hit list when I got him back to bed? I was in big trouble. I was in big trouble. Just, I wanted to take a long bath this morning, so I thought I'd wake him up. Mom was not happy. Apparently she wanted time alone. Rebecca, judging on how easy they got up, I'm pretty sure they would have gotten up.
I don't, I don't wake up at 5 AM. To spend time fussing at children.
Nope.
I wake up at 5:00 a.m. to have some quiet.
Get stuff done.
Get stuff done, which I did. I had to order like cod liver oil and return some shoes that we bought you and—
What's going on? Look!
Thumbs down!
Your video from last night.
Like, I'm gonna be like Teddy. Ah!
No, she'd be like, hey, look, look, there he is, he's digging in, right? He's got a saw, he's got a saw! Save one, save one! I think Mom's his favorite. Yes, I am. He gets the most excited around her, I think. Oh yeah, oh yeah, he likes—
tail is still wagging.
I wonder if these are dry. These are my cow cloths, I need them. They're dry. Where's my bucket though? Hey, who ran off with my bucket? There it is. He tries. He's a good sport. What's the matter? I made you one. It's right there on the counter. I made you one, honey. Right there.
Why didn't you tell me?
I'm sorry. Told your mom to tell you, but I don't know where she is. Hey, Miss Brown, you want to go with? Okay. And just like that, you don't want to go with. Well, aren't you guys relaxed? You too. What's the deal? Everybody laying down? It's just a lazy morning. Must have been the full moon last night. Look at this. That's round one. We haven't even put the cap on yet. Why are you guys giving so much milk? Did we put the calves up early yesterday? Oh, we put the calves up early. Let's get some more milk. A lot more room out here for that too. Hey, what are you doing there?
I'm making it so it looks like an earthquake happened so they can fill it back in.
Mind blown. Smart passive income. You know what, this guy's on there as a guest talking about you want to get in the business that's stable. And gonna have a market. You know what? So he looked up America's hobbies. Boys, you know what America's number 1 and number 2 hobby has been for the last 100 years?
Gardening. What?
How do you know?
Because I heard it.
Oh, you're cheating. Gardening. Gardening. And the number 2, they've been switching back and forth. Any guesses? Any guesses? So fun, so neat to know. I wouldn't have guessed gardening. America's number one hobby. Number two, for 100 years— this is not a fad, guys. We're in. This is a growing, continual, steady trend. You know what the second is? Reading. Read some books. And that excites me beyond, beyond belief. I'm proud of you. I'm proud of you, America. Those hobbies, mm, solid, solid. Pretend I didn't just set that up. Okay, well, no wonder these like raised bed videos and other garden videos are so popular. I love you guys. That's awesome. Come on. Good morning. Or not. You know what Brianna's shoes means? Hey, let's see if they know. Let's see if Brianna and Rebecca can guess the hobby. So Brianna's shoes are out there. That means only 2 things, 3 things. Friends, fellowship, and fun. I got a quiz for y'all.
What's the quiz?
What has been the number 1 and 2 hobbies in America for the last 100 years? Hobbies. Hobbies.
I'm gonna say gardening. Are we on film?
Keep guessing. Yeah, you're on film. You're on Candid Camera. Smile. I would say like hobby airplane, hobby cars. Model cars, model airplanes. Okay, cars, airplanes. You say gardening. What's the second one?
By that face, I know that I'm way off base. Um, guns.
Guns. I would say sports. Guns. This is the idea of their impressions of America.
Sports.
Sports. But are sports considered a hobby? I would consider that a different—
Well, I work with people playing sports.
You gotta remember, I guess this is just—
Basketball and like that sort of thing.
Soccer. I wouldn't even put that in the same category. Category. All right, the number 1 hobby the last 100 years— gardening. It's gardening.
Yeah, I was right.
It switched back and forth with sports. I'll give you a hint, we are a good representation of America's hobbies. Reading. Reading. Reading is a hobby. Well, gardening's a hobby. Yeah, I know, you know, by the definition.
Yeah.
Okay, are you gonna heat up breakfast for us?
Yeah.
Okay, sure.
That was my Can we do the last eggs today?
Sure. So we need to do them very last, okay? And maybe keep this big pan for them. So these medium pans— look, heat up spinach in one. Put the medium— the big pan back down here. Okay, use butter. Why does it have to be in the back? Cook the spinach. Maybe half, maybe a quarter of that spinach, third of the spinach.
So about half of it?
Yeah. A third is about right here. It's about that much. I do half because it shrinks down so much. Well, the boys just took a bath with Teddy. Boys, Josiah, you gotta come dry them off better. Lily, we— Harry's shaking off in the house, my man. Did you put butter in there?
Yep.
And it got melted?
It's getting melted. Yep.
Okay, put a little more in there. This cooks down way, way mega. Got our broth on. Okay, Lily, talk about convenience. Sausage from our freezer, broth from our fridge. We did not buy— we, we bought the spinach. Eggs, eggs from our backyard. Talk about preparedness. Lily, can you do that for a bit? I'm gonna work on this video. I actually been trying to work on this special video, Milk and Time. It's an interview show. We did our debut one with Art and Bree. It's been a bear of an edit. I'd hoped it was out last weekend. Maybe I can get it out this weekend. We'll see. Timer's going off. That means the broth may be done. It's almost there.
I'm gonna have two batches of gummy snacks.
It's coming along. That's enough. Had a thought. If you guys go early today, like say 2:30, do the afternoon chores, then from 3 to 5 we're gonna get getting these pigs out. Okay, maybe a more reasonable goal for these pigs is to get them out by Thursday because we got to get water out there, we got to get the fences set up, we've got to, uh, is that it? We got to figure out how to get them out there. I'm gonna try to get them in the trailer. We're gonna see if they'll even get in the trailer, but their water is piped from way over here all the way up there, so there could be all kinds of issues. Anyway, we're going to do that at 3, and if we had a solid 2 hours, I bet we could do it.
I already flipped them.
She's a good cook. Are you a good cook?
I think so.
You think so? You are. All right, take a minute. I hear a familiar voice. I hear a roon. I know that voice.
Hey, how are you?
Good, how are you?
Good, good.
How's it riding? Hey, life is better in pajamas.
Yeah, because just like, you know.
Yeah, because what time is it?
You have no idea what time is here.
It's like 11 o'clock.
11, so there is 9 at night.
So you're getting tired right now.
So right now it's like our bedtime.
So last night you were not tired?
No, because it's like, it's the day they announced, so you're like, "Oh, we only slept 4 hours." Are you going to be able to wait till 9 o'clock to go to bed tonight? We try to stay like as long as we can, like stay up.
Okay.
Otherwise like, it's going to be so hard.
Yeah. What about Azariah? You think he'll stay up all day? Yeah, if he's with Daddy. Oh yeah. Hey, I heard you want some hot dogs. Yes, we're going to have a hot dog and hamburger party. How about that?
We're going to have a hot dog party.
Get some of that American food.
Oh yeah, he was like, yeah, what food is like— he's just missing hot dogs.
Nothing else.
Hot dog.
He's American through and through.
I know, he's so Indian and so American.
He's both, huh?
Yeah.
Good to see him again. Arun and Amy are longtime friends of ours. Spent 6 months in India. That's also one of your favorite chores. Man's best friend right there. Sipping Mama and I some tea. 3 o'clock, we're doing 3 o'clock. Oh, is it 3 o'clock? No, that's 3-minute timer. I didn't think it was 3 o'clock. 2:15, I finished up the vlog. Plus I got a bonus vlog out of it. Like, I did a stanchion tour that ended up being like a standalone movie. Let's do that Saturday. And if I get this Art and Bree thing done, let's do that Sunday. So maybe 2 bonuses for you this weekend on the vlog, at least one. So right now let's finish the vlog and we'll get out there by 3 o'clock and maybe get these pigs out to forest today.
I'll say Sally, you get the head.
Yeah, I'm gonna get in and out of her way. Sleeping timer. Becca's kind of having a hard had a hard day, didn't sleep good last night. It kind of set you off. Let's see if this helps. Volunteer to do this. Who's not going to respond to some chai tea? How about if chai tea isn't enough, how about 4 scoops of our homemade homegrown cream? You're working, lady. Fine.
Thanks.
Does that compel you to do anything?
No. Oh!
Compels me to go take a—
Strike!
No.
Strike one!
What am I supposed to do?
Strike two!
Just tell me what I'm supposed to do. Oh, I'll give you a kiss.
Oh, there we go.
I thought you meant like compel me to go out of this house and do hard labor in the hot sun.
Alright, Mom's going over my edit. 2 movies for you today. Got a bonus for him this weekend. Okay.
I might not get to that bonus.
It's a lot. I mean, just for you to watch. It's 40 minutes. All right. Keep going back to that one. Jonah, let's do it, man. You got the chores done? Woo! All right, we can get these pigs out. You think we can do that today? Or is that impossible? Or can we do the impossible? Look at him curled up in a climbing belt, I think. I want to make sure the water is going to work and that the netting is all going to work before we even haul the pigs. John has got the mower loaded with the chainsaw gear. I like it. And let's get the nets in Sally. We don't put the mower— that stuff in Sally because it's like oily and stuff. We'll save Sally for hauling hay bales. And clean material. That needs a grounding rod.
Guess where we're gonna have to get one?
Where?
Up in the cow pasture. We accidentally forgot a grounding rod in the ground.
Do we have a hose? We need to get a hose. Okay, for extending off the supply line. We might be using all our hoses. What do you think?
No, we got one more.
Well, we'll have the ones to the pigs. We won't need that one anymore.
But he seems to think that's on the pigs is the one we're gonna take because it's already got the quick connect and everything hooked to it.
All right, we'll go get it then. We're 15 minutes in getting our stuff together. 1 hour and 45 minutes. Oh, you got to go in there, huh? You guys ready to get out? Yeah, I don't think they'll go under the trailer. I think we're gonna back the trailer right here. We're gonna put temp walls up. We're gonna walk them, lure them into the trailer with feed. They might climb under the trailer, but I think they're too big, and I think they're gonna be hungry. We're gonna get you out in the sunshine, cows, you know, out from underneath our bedroom. That's our bedroom wall right there. That's one way to get around. Okay, you ready for me to pull?
Yep.
Nice. I like your rig there though. That'll be handy next time. Come on, Jonah, let's find this grounding rod. There it is. Ah, it's from when we had the pigs over here before harvest a couple years ago. Still there. It's not going anywhere. It's a big one. Oh wow, let's, let's hook up our water. That's going to be our biggest hangup, I think. All right, works. All right, we'll go see if it's coming out where it's supposed to be. This could be the major hangup. There's where the pigs were last time. So we want to do our line right through there. One line, Jonah. One power source line. Okay, and then we'll build off of it. Okay, up to the next path and then down. I guess we'll just do a short area right here. We're going to give them this little space from there, maybe to right here, up. What do you think?
I don't think that—
just a week. It doesn't look like I need to do any chainsawing, my man. There's maybe a tree limb here that needs to get out of the way. These got to get out of the way. Let's move those real quick.
Oh, we'll be done by 4 o'clock, you think? Oh, for sure.
5. Cool. How's that? A straight line through here with our fence. We ain't doing nothing unless water comes through here. We could go make sure it's not shut off anywhere. I think I hear it. You hear something coming? I hear it coming. It's gonna take a while.
Yeah, but we got plans.
Let's set up and then watch that. Okay, I got our source fence up. That means the electricity will connect to this source fence and we'll build— it's all the way down through there, so we've got 3, 4 weeks of source fence, and we'll build our fences off of this one fence. We'll build one fence this week, and then the next we'll build another one, move them over, and then take this one up. Jonah said we had water, but it looks like it slowed down. We, we did have water. There it is. It's a trickle, but give it time. All right, we're gonna blade this. Better not hit my line though. Hey, let me do it because I don't want you to hit the water line. Well, Jenna, we got it. It's a little wonky, a little narrow right there, but we had to encompass this corner. That's what's great about this net. We just set that up really easy. They've been trained to it, so we're good. And it's a little bigger up there, but we got it with one fence. We got it with one fence. They're gonna get in here and they're gonna till. And they're going to stir up grass seed that was not here before. Like, let me show you. Look at that grass patch. That is tender stuff. Cows are gonna love it, right? Look at all that through there. Cows are going to be in heaven. Look where we, uh, butchered a pig, where we harvested it. Look how green, guys. 12 inches tall grass right there. 11.2. That's gonna certainly keep a pig in, not grounding out anywhere.
It'll keep a Sasquatch.
No ants. Oh yeah, keep the Sasquatches out.
Maybe a bunch too.
Okay, we should do something with this line so that we can back in with the trailer and offload them right here. No drama.
Oh, that's easy.
You got it. I don't know, is there a way we can do it? Oh, we can roll it up.
No, there's no way to roll it up.
There's an end right down there, isn't there? No. Yeah, you could do that. Let's hook the hose up to that and get it— the hose filling up. Guys, it's only 5 till 4. I really think it's legit possible to go home, get the trailer hooked up. Jonah's already ahead of me on that. And get these pigs. So far it's got good for us. If it continues to go this way We certainly haven't— sorry about that. We certainly have enough time. All right, we gotta do the prudent thing, return stuff, even though I just want to jump on that project. We just put our last of our tools away. Let's get their feed and let's get— hey, you back? You get the tractor started? Okay, get the trailer hooked up.
Where'd you go?
Okay, let's get their feed and let's get some water. 2 pans, one for water and one for feed. I know you're looking at me crazy, but that's just in case we can't get the— or at least while the water barrel is filling up, and in case we can't get it to work. Just in case, let's be Boy Scouts. All right, something's wrong with my zoom. I'm zooming in and out, but it's not going. It's gonna be bad. I don't know if it's zoomed all the way out. Yes, it's zoomed in. This farm vlogging is hard on these cameras, I'll tell you that. It's like physically hard to turn. There you go. Maybe we'll just keep it right there. Yeah, it's got— it's just gotten dirty. There we go, there we go. Got it back, got my zoom back. Oh, that's cute. Look at that there. Is that a, uh— oh my gosh, what is becoming of us? What would a Justin Rose bog be without a Zoom? Hey Jones, you get our pans, our feed pans and water pans? Uh, no, I've got a water bucket. Pretty sure we can carry that stuff in our trailer, our trailer where we're gonna put the pigs, so All right, time to go get these pigs in. Now this could be the hang-up, we'll see.
It's a ramp.
You're gonna use that as a— oh, a ramp. Oh, that's a good idea.
Pigs ain't gonna go anywhere but their heart desires on food.
Wait, get our pig board. And what about our feet? Did you bring our feet?
Right here.
All right, go get our pigs.
Heart is its food.
Hey, you go. All right, I don't think they're going to want to climb this, but I think they will. They might step up this. Worst case, they don't go in, we'll just go back in the stall with them. Irresistible feed here, which is grain soaked in skim milk. What's making the noise, Becky, at night? Did y'all see that? Y'all didn't see that. Watch this.
I hear you in the middle of the night.
It's not the oinking. They only do that when they're hungry. They're banging on this door, saving you from the pigs. Your pig food, you know. If you're gonna be any help with these pigs, you have to be confident.
I'm confident.
No, I can scream. Oh, you can scream and be confident? Well, just stay firm. Give me your most confident scream. That's a scared scream. There you go. All right, that's where you're gonna stand with that pig board. Jonah, you'll be over here on this side. Jonah's gonna be over here. Where do you guys want to stand? You guys stand right there. Me? Yeah, you. I'm gonna lead with the bucket. They're gonna go kind of crazy right here. Good job. Right here, right here. Focus on the one here.
I'm focused. Get energy out.
Here, right here, right here. Here, here, here, here, here, here. Good job, guys.
And guess who just came around?
Who?
Daddy.
I'm going to have to buy him a smaller harness. That's the extra small.
That went pretty good. The milk spilled on this though, and the second one didn't even climb it.
He—
she just climbed up into this trailer. Well guys, we got them in. Hey, I turned this off, Jonah, because I just remembered the barrel. It's 4:30. Should we do it today? You want to do it tomorrow? I don't know, we got the water going. Let's do it. Problem is, I think that barrel is absolutely full of water. All right, well That wasn't so bad. We got 25 minutes. Everything's going good. It opens uphill. We'll just hopefully lure them in. Yeah, let's get the water going first. Good call. You got the lid, I got the barrel. Boy, it's just Dripping, man. It's gonna take all night to fill that up. Let's get our feed pan right inside, right here. How about right there, Jonah? Oh look, we've got water coming in, buddy. That's good news. I've been stressing out about that. I can't do any more weight. Oh, just hold it right there. You want me to put a stick on it? Here they come. Here they come. Here, here. There's some water until their tub fills up. 4 minutes to spare, buddy. Yeah, we did it.
We did it.
We got the pigs moved. You got supper made. We sit together down as a family.
I know, I wish I could have gone and done it with you, but that would have been fun.
