How To Get a New Cow To Do Anything You Want

The video follows a family farm on a rainy Labor Day, documenting a full day of chores, problem‑solving, and family activities. It opens with a morning health‑boosting smoothie routine where Rebecca and the host discuss supplements like magnesium, bee pollen, cod liver oil, and collagen. Heavy rain has caused a drainage issue, prompting urgent fence repairs, solar‑powered energizers, and a foundation drain that must be re‑dug. The family milks two cows, Flossie and Honey, while teaching Rebecca how to handle a new cow and a calf‑sitting cow, highlighting the learning curve and equipment (stanchions, collars). They prepare fair entries—cherry tomatoes, red peppers, and various kids’ projects—discussing the modest prize money and the fun motivation behind entering. The host and Rebecca pack for their first family camping trip, checking off gear like tents, sleeping bags, water pump, and cooking supplies, while involving the children in gathering items. A simple roast of goose and duck is prepared as a lazy‑day dinner, with commentary on cooking order and timing. Throughout, the host reflects on personal productivity, referencing "12 Rules for Life" and encouraging viewers to share camping tips. The vlog ends with a recap of tasks, upcoming work on the moat, moving pigs, setting up sheep paddocks, and a thank‑you to viewers.
Chapters
You can do it. What is it?
Which one is mine? Bee pollen.
Oh man, that's the best one.
No, it's the worst. It has a weird texture I don't like. Has Gideon taken his? Sure bored, it's wet out there.
Good morning, y'all. Hopefully it's not as, or hopefully it is as rainy as it is out there where you are. It sure is raining. Magnesium, cod liver oil, emu oil, bee pollen, humic, fulvic and humic. And you did all this this morning? That was supposed to be done.
Bone and liver. I did a little bit of magnesium.
This goes in the smoothie.
Correct, and then probiotic, and then I normally do this one, which is oyster extract. But I forgot to do it today.
This goes in the smoothie too?
No, that's a chewable.
Okay, this is your secret weapon. 10 pounds of bananas at a time.
Yeah, because then we freeze it. Because have you ever bought frozen bananas?
The Instacart guy is— yeah, yeah, the Instacart guy in Texas. I've got 10 pounds of bananas in my cart. Is that right? What'd you tell him? Yep, we're extra.
And I also put collagen in the smoothie, and then of course yogurt and raw milk, which is a powerhouse.
This guy, it's really helped, right? It's helped your energy levels? Yeah, give you more energy. All right, energy boy, into your dishwasher.
Hey, those are mine.
I think he said these actually fit me. That's as tight as it goes, bro. Not gonna fit you either, bro.
No, somebody with bigger legs has got to wear these.
How's our moat holding up? Does it matter that it's falling falling in?
Well, they're just gonna have to hand dig it out again to put the drain in.
Oh wow.
I mean, they should have done it last week when it wasn't raining.
Look at that, it's just running off.
It's been raining for 2 days. I know, and I've been watching the dirt fall in. Holy macaroni!
Rebecca, I don't know if you should go. It's gonna be so wet. Maybe stay here with Henry. Okay, and what about the fair stuff? Are we— that's due today.
I'll stay with her and watch her.
What did you enter into the fair? Pictures?
I'm sorry you have to go out. This is so bad.
Probably do a lot of POV with the GoPro because I got a waterproof case. POV, for those that are wondering, point of view. So you'll get my point of view. I'm gonna stop with my arms. Look, he's mad. He wants to go. It's gonna be crazy, Henry. Mom, watch him. They're supposed to seal it in tomorrow, but you got to do the foundation drain first. That was supposed to happen last week.
Yeah, maybe tomorrow.
Today is Labor Day, and for normal people, they usually take the day off, but the cows don't stop producing milk, and the turkeys don't stop eating. Pigs certainly don't stop eating, so we keep working. When this hole fills up with water, it's going to come out through there and hopefully out into here and not into our house. We gotta hurry up and get grass on this. This is washing away. It's turning into a creek. This isn't shocking them, I don't think. Yeah, I don't know why, but that fence is not working. They're gonna figure out this is not on and they're gonna just bust. It's just a psychological barrier, y'all. It's not a physical barrier. There you go. That's not going to be enough. They're spilling half of it. They live in the moment. No delayed gratification for pigs. Hey, you got feed in that feeder? We got to get feed in that feeder for the piglets. They get upset when I come with them because I make them do I hope it's not on because if it's on, it's not working. You're blinking red. That means your battery's dead. Partly because we're powering so many fences. We're powering two paddocks they aren't even in. Okay, do you know why? Yep. Why?
Because I didn't know— I did— I didn't have time to pick up the next.
This will do it too. The pigs nudge this and it knocks against this fence and you have a breach. It's a wonder they aren't out. Set up the Energizer on the new fence, then take up the old fence, then tighten the new fence. Okay, so you didn't have time. Well, now we're making time in the morning. All right, we made progress with the turkeys. Nobody else is dead. That's what keeping them in and a hot fence will do. I hear it snapping. Hear it snapping. We got 10 turkeys. They only got to make it 6 more days. This constant rain like this, no sunshine, will wear down the solar energizers. This one's going strong though. See it blinking green? It is out in the middle of the field. That helps. One of the pigs is on the edge of the forest, and it was powering a lot more fence than this. Let's check on the sheep up the hill, and then we'll get milking.
Can we hurry up and milk before we can go back inside?
Yes, very soon. How are our lawn mowers doing? Staying dry under the ramshaw? Looks like they got a day or two more. The fence is falling down. Looks like it was barely put in. Water going through this? These plastic clips can get so wet the electricity travels through them. Yesterday we milked Flossie and then Honey. It was a little tricky to keep Honey off the alfalfa. We don't have a collar on her yet. We can't like tie her up. We do have a collar on her though, so I'm wondering, can we get her tied up right there and then Honey in the stanchion? We don't want to move Honey over to the new grass yet because she'll get full and she won't be into alfalfa. See, right now she's hunting that alfalfa. All right, let's try that. She won't have much milk because she has the calf. I don't know what exactly Oh wait, now we're just letting her get used to us, I guess. See how jumpy she was?
Can I try milking?
Sure, go for it. Look at you approaching it all nice, smart. Good job. Those teats are gonna be nice, huh? Yeah, I think it's slowed down enough that maybe you guys could stand right there. The mist now. Glossy, come on now. Really? They didn't poop on a rainy day. I think it stopped raining again. It keeps going, coming back and forth. You staying dry, Winnie? Good, brace the abs. Keep your abs crunched. There you go. New weight for Rebecca. 26.
Do I pistol grip it?
Yep. Okay. Yep, yep. All right, big dog.
Go.
Crank it. Stay with it, stay with it, stay with it.
Okay, hold on a second.
Nope, nope, nope, nope. Time, rest, 5 minutes. Is it over for today? No, no, no. She just got to a new point she wasn't used to sticking for. Yeah. She didn't know. You don't— you had never fought through a sticking point.
I know.
So that was the first time, so it's okay, you'll get it. Okay. That was why I was saying put it down. That was what I was saying, put it down, put it down, put it down. You gotta rest, you'll get it. Shake. How much is that? 70. Okay, demo. Look, he hadn't even warmed up. Okay, that's crazy, man. Stay with it. Come on, come on, come on. Oh! You did!
Oh, I did it. That was hard.
This is from a woman who has never worked, trained in her whole life. Proud of y'all. Crushed it. Good job. How's that feel?
I can't believe I did it.
How did that feel?
Like, there was like a moment where I was like, I don't know if this is gonna happen, and then it did.
Thanks, Jacob. We'll see you later. Yep. What are you gonna do with all this stuff?
This is going— oh, that's a bug.
Is this entries to the fair? You're submitting tomatoes?
Cherry tomatoes and red peppers.
Nice. What are you gonna do with all this money you're gonna win from the fair?
If I win first place in every category, I'm only gonna get $40.
How many, how many categories you entering?
4.
$10 for first place?
Correct. I know.
Why do we do this?
Well, because it's fun and You're out of breath.
She's out of breath from the training.
I know.
I am hungry and I just want to just jump in and start cooking lunch.
I know.
Bad habit though. Obviously I haven't transitioned out of whatever we've been doing all morning. Hey, that's a pretty dress. What's going on?
Nothing.
Nice, I like it. From 12 Rules for Life: How could I use my time to make things better instead of worse? Asking yourself that. Such tasks may announce themselves as the pile of undone paperwork that you could attend to, the room that you could make a bit more welcoming, or the meal that could be a bit more delicious and more gratefully delivered to your family. Oh, part of the annoyance of this chore that has to be pushed through is to get the kids to help, which is hard. Boys! You'll go get them for me? Thanks. It is still raining. Hey Josiah, we got to check your game cam later, see if, see if anything got those turkeys. We discarded the gotten turkeys yesterday in front of the game cam. I bet something's gotten it. Oh wow, you've already started, Jonah. Heck yeah. I don't think we're taking that blowout mattress. Oh. I think we're taking those mattresses.
Okay.
All right, first on the list, tent. We've got a tent. That's the frame for this tent though, isn't it? Okay, well maybe we'll find the tent stakes and all that junk. Rebecca's gone. I'm gonna go find my boots. Went to family camp for years. I've been hesitant. This is mainly why.
Where'd my boots go? You're doing everything.
It's a lot to get ready. Have you ever been family camping? Yeah.
No.
Okay, well maybe it's worth it. You never know.
We went glamping in a farm touring.
Yeah. Hey, do you guys got any advice? Any family campers out there, drop a line in the comments. Let's combo. There's way too many chickens out.
I don't know how that happened.
I mean, one or two is normal, but what's going on? Do you know what's going on?
Nope.
If you go that way, run them around. Look at our squash garden though. Absolutely jamming.
Other people have to help me. Can somebody help?
I got you. I got these. Go get the others. Yeah. Wait, I don't see any camp chairs. Use those? Yeah, we could just keep them there for now. You found some right there.
There's two.
There's two.
I can carry one.
Okay, just put them out here to be ready to go. We're going to pack them in the trailer before we go. There's a 10 by 10. Is it a 10 by 10? Yes. Okay, that'll work. Quick, act like we're not scrolling the internet.
You're funny.
We only have 3, so I'm putting down less. She's talking about taking that. I don't know, is that heavy? I don't think it's too heavy. All right, water pump for our water supply, hatchet, paperware, Kitchen cooking supplies. Sleeping bags. Pillow bins. And a tent. Check out these fair entries. Josiah's Lego build. That's a winner. Lily's Lego build. It's a winner. Gideon's Lego— don't hit that cake. Lily's cake submission. That's a winner.
Ask my bracelet. Oh, put your bracelet in here.
Mom's tomatoes and peppers.
And Gideon's acorn squash.
Ooh, that's a pretty acorn squash. Lily's got a drawing.
And then that's Gideon's picture that he took.
Nice.
And then this one is Jonah's picture. And then this one is my picture. And this one is my picture that I'm entering.
I think the piglets is gonna win.
I mean, it's— I mean, they're so cute.
Best of show.
And then this is Lily's picture.
Nice. All right, good luck with it all at the fair. Thanks.
I think we put our things here. Oh, look, Lily, there's nobody else against you. Who is it? There's nobody else here for your cake.
Birds look a little different, you guys. Yeah, two different kinds of birds.
Oh, freak!
Cut my thumb good.
Oh, is your finger okay? Yeah, I'm sure you prepped— you chopped it off.
It's gonna be okay. I didn't get it good though. It's pretty simple. We're just gonna do the bird and salt because I'm feeling pretty lazy today. With all the rain and everything. I'm gonna put the goose on top because it's bigger, maybe a little warmer. The duck on the bottom, and we're just roasting it. 2 and a half hours till dinner, so what is that, you think, Jonah? 300?
Yeah.
Let's go check the trail cam. The boss man was here, the contractor. Coming to check out the damage. They are going to have to dig it out a bit, but it's not too bad. The flood, thankfully it never went over into our shed, and it has stopped raining. They are going to have to dig an escape out. They can't get a hold of the subcontractor, so they might be doing it themselves tomorrow. We'll see.
What do they have to do?
They have to See how the dirt has fallen down in there? They got to put a foundation drain in there, so they're gonna have to get that out of the way. He's wanting to show me something he's built.
The axle.
Look at this thing. What's wrong with it?
The wheel— the— at this part, three-wheeler, this part spins but the wheels don't.
Oh, so what are you gonna do to fix that?
Put that axle on.
Cool. This axle?
Well, I think I am.
Okay, sweet. I like it. Wow, look how close to overflowing it did overflow. Did it? It did, it did. Well, they're gonna have to re-dig this drainage pipe. As hard as we worked to put this in here, they're gonna have to pick it up, move it, dig the ditch, and put it back. It's been a job. Isn't it always that way though? Ends up being a little more entailed than you imagine. Look, there's only one left. That means we have something, and it is gone. Yeah, let's get the card out and let's show the folks. Oh no, Josiah, was it dead?
It was kind of turning on.
What do you think happened?
Is it dead? Wait, how do you get it onto the computer?
We gotta— we got a fitting for that. SD card. Okay, there was something August 30th.
What?
What was there?
That's us.
Oh, that's the—
oh, go up.
It hadn't worked today. Today's like September 5th, bro. Oh, can you guys do something about that battery? Yeah, it's a plate of goose and duck. How is it, Beck? How's it, Mr. Henry? Seconds? Worthy of seconds?
He had a goose and duck. I gave him a little bit of both.
Good for you, buddy. Just wrapped up dinner. That was interesting. Goose and duck, a little different. That was kind of fun. Hopefully tomorrow we're gonna finish on— well, get moving forward on the great moat. We'll have some answers. We're supposed to move the pigs this week, set up paddocks for the sheep. A lot to do this week. Packing for our very first family camping trip. Uh, thank you guys for joining us. Hope you continue to join us for this. It's going to be an interesting week, to say the least. All right, thank you. Love you guys. See you later.
