I Put My Sheep in the Garden and this is What Happened

In this vlog, Victor Justin Rhodes demonstrates how he used a small flock of sheep to clear an overgrown garden, revealing hidden pumpkins, watermelons, and a sweet‑potato patch. He explains how the sheep not only ate weeds but also deposited nutrient‑rich pellets, effectively fertilizing the soil. The video then shifts to a series of homestead chores: fixing a leaky irrigation nozzle and installing an Everflow water system, dealing with a broody guard goose that clogs a mesh floor, breeding and handling rabbits, moving a calf, and herding the sheep back into a mobile pen. Throughout, his children Jonah and Lily help with milking, feeding, and cooking, illustrating family participation in daily farm life. The vlog concludes with a harvest of the newly visible produce, a brief reflection on the garden’s health, and a relaxed lakeside moment before winter.

I want you guys to look and see how these luchadors, how these sheep have helped us garden. They've revealed this squash. Buddy, my man, you did a great job. Thank you very much. Thank you. This was just overrun with weeds. Oh, looky here, look, you can see our— I had no idea we had that many more pumpkins and watermelons left. So now we can get in here and harvest them. And I think what I'm most excited about is we had a sweet potato patch right here, and now we can actually see to get in there. And plus we have all those extra pumpkins. Who knew? They have eaten all the sweet potato leaves. Yep. And now we can see where they're going in. Now I don't know if we have any sweet potatoes At least we can get in here and find out. Let me show you what this looked like just one week ago. This is supposed to be a garden. There's not supposed to be weeds in there. We've got grass and it's coming to seed. Don't get stressed out about it, there's nothing you can do. Lamb's quarter gone to seed, that means there'll be more seed here for the next 7 years. I like to not try not to think about that, but we have pumpkins buried, we have sprinklers buried, we have sweet potatoes buried. And then we have that bank that just couldn't get mowed. That's amazing. We gave the sheep something to eat, something to do for a week, and they cleared our garden for us. I like it. I should also say they fertilized. There was mucho sheep pellets in there. Thank you guys very much. The question is, where do we put them next? Is this— is this garden where they go next? It's gotten a bit overrun. We still have crops coming on, so maybe it's not quite time yet. Every once in a while we get a stoppage. Can everybody say ooh? That's because of her. The female guard goose gives you eggs, but she also gets broody and pulls the nesting material out, and it causes the, uh, floor to clog up. The poop can't fall through the mesh. Ouch. Guys, where's Jonah? Inside. Okay, that's, that's the name of the game. I won't say taking your kids with you is always easy. They, they tend to wander. Wait, Lily, Lily, we don't need another kid in there. Let me get you on the house. Oh, he's getting the milk stuff. Get the milk stuff in there. Come. The problem is this thing is leaky. This nozzle got me two choices here, and it's getting it all soggy out here. It's running our pump. It's just not a good situation. That's one reason we got to get that Everflow water going. We don't have to worry about this stuff. First up, this fireman's hydrant leaks. I want just regular, just shutoffs, no nozzle, no nothing. This is the closest thing I have right now. I have to order some more. Okay, right now we just have this adapter. Hopefully that, that'll do it. There we go. Okay, that works. No leak. Try number 2, breeding these rabbits. Try number 1, maybe they're just rookies, maybe they're not in heat. Who do I move first? So the, the girl goes to the boy. Okay. Yep. I'll feed them a little bit, Lily, and that'll distract them when I'm trying to grab them. Well, maybe we shouldn't have fed them. Nice. Distracted. Too distracted. I guess we shouldn't have done it while he had his food. Papa, why are you doing— what are you doing that for? Well, they're not interested. Oh, shut that. All right, we were real close to getting her without hurting her calf. She'll get less and less attached as it gets older, but for now we're gonna have to— Jonah's gonna herd the calf down. And I'll leave coffee. Heard the calf up here. There it is. I think they're washed. They're going to shake something. There's nothing, nothing. Her milk hadn't dropped in yet, so we'll let her finish her alfalfa. It's a good little protein snack for her. And then we'll get Flossy, and she's— Phyllis, and she's ready. Next up, let's get our, uh, mobile wrestling ring. We got good air in there, and let's drag it over to the garden and get these luchadors in. This could be the tricky part, herding these guys back into this cage. It's just new territory. It's under a road. Now we might have to chuck it. Okay, okay, keep going. There's a rock right there to chuck it. Tie that to it. I'm so scared I'm gonna get zapped. Well, you turned it off, didn't you? Yeah, but you'll be all right. And then get that one straightened up. Are they seriously just coming? Are you serious? They're coming. Make sure you do give them some. Just put it on the road. Wow, that was too— Are you serious? It was too easy. I just love these guys. Wow. They're there. They're happy. That was uneventful. That's the way we like it. Beauty. Yeah, how's your lettuce doing? It's doing all right. I think the legginess may be recovering. Yeah, it's right there. It's getting full sun yesterday and today. Yeah, and I don't think it's too hot. No. Show them, Lily. Show them what you made. Eggs all by yourself. Eggs and then French toast. Look at this girl making French toast. Good job. It's Sunday seed day and we've got the luchadores out of there. Now we're gonna harvest the crops. The plan is let's get all the fruit now that we can see it and put it in the back of Willie. Okay, well, Mom's picking up the fence. Now we can see where the vines go in. I don't know if they developed or not. I mean, last year we had a bumper crop. Oh, broke my— broke my potato fork. Oh wow. All right, do you have another potato fork? The rotten stuff. All right, I think this is gonna be a great happy ending up here at the lake, taking a break, getting some vitamin D. One of the last few times they can swim before it's too cold.
