I thought I fixed my Chicken Problem then I saw 3 Rascals

In this vlog, Victor (Speaker A) and his family/friends manage a chaotic day on their homestead. The episode opens with a chicken escape, leading to a frantic chase of three rogue chickens (“rascals”) while coordinating feeding and herding with buckets and fences. The team then tackles multiple renovation projects: installing a walk‑in cooler door, finishing beadboard in the barn kitchen, and moving a 300‑pound door. Garden work is highlighted, including mulching, planting collards, chard, cabbage, and dealing with weeds. Victor treats a cow with mastitis, celebrates its recovery, and milks the herd. Power issues arise, prompting a relay effort to restore electricity to the cool room. Throughout, the vlog previews an upcoming 24‑hour “living with the chickens” challenge, mentions a reading plan, and captures family banter, humor, and logistical coordination among participants (Rebecca, Randolph, Jason, Gideon, Brianna, and others). The narrative blends practical homestead tasks, animal care, renovation logistics, and personal reflections, offering viewers a candid look at daily homestead life.
Chapters
Jonah! Jonah! Jonah! Okay, good. Look who's out— the main rooster. Don't swill these vegetables, we need to swill some guts. Okay, I caught him in time. We only have one bucket for cooking swill. We have two buckets worth of feed. The pigs would much rather have their chicken guts cooked than their veggies. Chicken guts from the butchering. Look who's here bright and early. I think you're wanting to get done today, aren't you? Randolph? I think we may just very well be able to do that. You tired of doing this with the bead board? I've about had enough of this bead board. Good. Maybe we can get you done today. Yeah, that's all you like, right? And then that, the water line. That's right. And, uh, Rebecca's got quite a bit to do after him, but we're getting really close. And we're talking about the barn house, y'all. We live in a barn. We're renovating our kitchen.
I can't move this top one. Okay, that arrow to this one, and I can't get the bit out.
Okay, let's get our swivel going first. What are you about to do with this?
I have to drill. I'm gonna drill a hole and then screw a hook in.
Okay, then use it for the liner, right? Okay, so Let's get this going now. Your rooster's out! I know, look at that!
He got up under the roof and jumped out.
Oh really?
I see a whole bunch of other hens on the roof.
Oh shoot, is it close?
Yeah.
There we go, punk! Let's go take care of your, uh, drill. There it is. Need help finding the shoes, babe?
Yeah, that'd be great.
Probably down by the creek, but maybe in the van. This looks promising. We lost their clothes here. No shoes. More clothes. They got real excited, took off their clothes, but must have lost— must have took off their shoes long before. They gotta come pick this up. You find nothing? No cowboy boots, no rain boots, no Keens, nothing. Beauty's getting ready to— she got rained out yesterday. Gonna transplant those veggies into our winter garden, into Arun's garden is what we call this garden. I just uncovered our door. Our door is hidden in this huge box. This is our freezer door for our walk-in cooler. You found some? I think she found some. Where'd you find them?
They were on the table. I don't know how they got there because I had looked.
But hey, good job on your herb and flower garden here, honey. Thanks. We pretty much sheet mulched it, deep mulched it. And pretty— have just— yeah, I mean, a few weeds here and there.
We've got some weeds here and there.
Otherwise it did good. You got your hori hori?
I did.
And you're gonna go plant in the garden, I'm gonna go move these ices. You know, they've been staying in.
Yeah, I think it was that guinea.
I think it was the guinea. Guinea clown guineas chase chickens around, and I think the net was— you're small enough— those chickens were small enough The net was, you know, the area was small enough and just drove them nuts and of course forced them out. First, let me feed the pig port. The chickens escaped their coop last night, so we can't move them too far. We can move them over one by just setting up another net and then leading them in there with their food. That's the plan this morning. Looks like I might have spoke too soon. 3 rascals are out. Of course we didn't move them. Let's see if that helps. They've seen me come with the bucket. They're trained to the bucket. That's good. I've set up the snow fence to be able to open right here, but The old fence doesn't open right there, so it's going to be a hair tricky. Maybe they'll go under it. Most of them came right through. We have some stragglers. Let's see if we can't get these guys by herding them around. Opened it up. There we go. Chase him back. Maybe he'll make this up. You're going too wide, bro. Wait, wait, you can kill it. There he goes. Maybe he'll make it. Maybe he won't. Oh, he made it. He just went in. Okay, serve this lady. Really? Just keep going around this way, honey. Keep going. Don't come back. There we go. Now I think I'll put this. Got a little extra here. Let's go along with it here because we're gonna have to pull down this fence to get the shawl over. Total breach right now. They could get loose. Let's move this shawl. Hopefully they'll stay occupied on their feed. This is going to disturb them because I have to run right through there. Hopefully they go back to it and not leave. Give them some more. Come on, come on back. Oh, I caught with the shawl, cut the fence. Following me because I have the bucket. All right, that's it. I dropped it all, guys. Go through, please. As if saying please is gonna help. Is this even talking to them? Yay, I got everybody in. I didn't. Yep, and this box fell down and they got out. You poor goose. You're not as athletic as they are, huh? Now we'll go around and get any sag out and put our support posts in.
Oh, you two are cute together.
How'd your starts survive? They're probably doing great with the rain.
I think they are doing fine.
Nobody washed away?
None of the starts did. I don't know about the seeds.
Good.
We'll see.
Well, you two got it under control. I'm gonna go milk. How are you, Miss Thing? Got your alfalfa on? You tolerating me? You tolerating me? I'm saying she's 100% kicked this mastitis today. Look at that, Jonah. That's white milk right there, buddy. I'm declaring her healed. Her udder is deflated. It's no longer tough and leathery and swollen. She is clear. She had knocked that mastitis naturally. These are amazing creatures, these, these cows. Phyllis has done it. Now Flossie. Still the faithful producer. Gallon and a half. New pasture today, way out there. The calves were in here, so we mowed behind them, and we're gonna let that recover. All right, I heard Jason needed me. Yes, I get to contribute to the cool room. Okay, so you need to find the electricity. Yep, we need to turn that— okay, plug that in so you had something's on. And then— shoot, I think our walkie-talkies are dead. How could you do it? We might have to do a relay team. You'll have to be in there on the corded phone, and I'll take the cordless phone downstairs on intercom. Maybe you could just yell. You feel comfortable yelling? Yeah, I'll be, I'll be down there. Okay, and as soon as it goes off, you'll have to yell. Okay, okay. Like your life depends on it. I'm gonna go down and start flipping switches. Unfortunately, I don't know which one it is exactly. You ready, Jason? Jason, yell, can I hear you? Shoot, he can't hear me. There, I can hear you now. Can you hear me? Okay. I'm gonna go at it. Oh, that's downstairs. Okay, cut off every one of these freezers. Oh, somebody liked their breakfast. Lily, you like your breakfast? Yeah, cabbage, bacon, eggs. Oh my, did you get your veggies planted this morning, Beck?
I did. I got the collards planted, but I need to transplant some chard and I need to start cabbage.
Is this a headache stressed out stance?
This is a my life is insane.
Good job planting all that, honey. You did good. Any more out there? Oh, fill those guns. Fill the guns of the Haas. Wake you up? That'll put a smile on your face, huh? Hoss.
Let's feel it, Mama Hoss.
Oh yeah, there we go, there we go. Some people have asked me, namely Jason, aren't you going to be bored? What are you going to do in the chickens for 24 hours, which starts Thursday morning, goes to Friday? Well, I'm going to read Why Did the Chicken Cross the World. I've already read some of it, but I never did finish it. But it's why the chicken has been so popular. We humans we are like the barnyard fowl. Gentle. Gentle and violent. Calm and agitated. Graceful and awkward. Aspiring to fly, but still bound to the earth. That's pretty good, right? That's true. True, true. True that. True that.
True that.
All right, video one. You guys notice putting up two videos lately? Giving you guys teases of these amazing videos we got in our Homestead Crash Course right now.
What?
Whatever he said. Randolph is almost done with the bead board. I'm pretty sure he's going to be done with his part today. Rebecca's got to do some things. We got the 24-hour challenge sleeping with the birds this weekend. Probably going to be next week before we can reveal the, um, kitchen.
Yes, now look at my area.
I trust you did a great job. You were almost done. Okay, back at it making today's vlog, getting some editing done. Oh my, look at this. Jason, you back there? Yep. Are you still without power? Yeah. Oh bro. Yeah, I'm trying to get this in. Okay. Oh good, ceiling in. You had to get that in to get this in, didn't you? Yeah. Okay, I just gotta drill that hole, and then once I drill that hole, I could start hooking up back up. Okay, cool. You can take a break for lunch. We fixed you a lunch if you want. Awesome. We have chicken soup from the land. Cucumbers, I guess. Okay, some of your new cucumbers and carrots. This is exciting.
Cucumbers, carrots. An onion.
Okay. Is it okay if I go back and work? But not two videos today is— it's a bit— and it's a lot of trying to get caught up and ahead. Yeah, because Thursday I'm going to be living with chickens. I'm not going to be able to edit, and so I'm gonna have to do two vlogs in one day somewhere.
And then we have a crazy weekend.
Yes, living with the chickens Thursday to Friday, helping the Hollers on Saturday. Gotta Play on Sunday. Going to Faith's play. So it's a bit of a crunch week, so I take my meal and edit. So we can get some sleep tonight. Back to getting this, this, uh— We have a special guest right now. Brianna reacting to the kitchen reno. Can I get your reaction to this, Brianna?
Well, I forgot that you were redoing your kitchen. I walked in and turned around and went— It looks wonderful.
What was the first impression?
That the blue turned out perfect.
Okay, tell her.
Yeah, it was a lot.
Perfect, Beck. You heard it, I got it on tape.
And if I say it, it must be true. That's right.
If any other lady says it, I can't say it.
Oh man, I love those cabinets being gone from over there. Me too. It makes me feel like a whole different kitchen. And then the fridge being over here, it feels so big, doesn't it? But Randolph is going to come maybe in a month and push it. We're going to, we're going to push it back so that it's like this level. That's what it feels like, even more bigger. You know what's crazy is even with the living room cut off there, it still feels big in here. So I can't wait for it to like— yeah, and then, you know, we're, we're— did you paint the ceiling or change it? We changed it.
It used to be popcorn.
It used to be a regular ceiling. Let's show her this, that where she's at, and we put Now it's beadboard. Yeah, because it was kind of— because it was just old looking. It's cute. Yeah, and it was way cuter.
It was so 1980s. It is popcorn.
So cute. It is so cute.
Now it's kind of like— I know, it kind of, it kind of reminds me of Maple.
It does. It is like Maple.
She designed it so— the light wood countertops, light blue, uh, cabinets. Look at my cabinets.
Okay. This is cool. This is cool. I love how the sink goes all the way over there. Yes, how it doesn't stop and then be butcher block. Yeah, but it goes all the way. I don't know, isn't this like— when do you get to be done? Right today. Are you serious? Wow.
You guys want to see what's inside of this? Uh, Rebecca's going over my edit. I'm thinking it's a 300-pound door. All right, while Rebecca goes over there— oh shoot, this is screwed on the door. So the walk-in cooler's in here, it's super heavy. While Randolph and Jason are here, we're going to carry this thing out. Gideon, stop!
Hey, guess what? My dad has a drill.
He does. I got those, I got the drills out. You guys want to open the door?
I did. I do.
I got the cool room door unboxed, ready to go. Jason said he's ready for the power to go back on. Jason needs more help. I'm so happy. Okay, you ready to put this in?
Yeah.
Thank you. Mm-hmm. Happy to help in some way. This is about as far as you're gonna get today, and you, you can't come back next week, or can you? No, I can't. Oh good, good. Yeah, okay. I thought you were going away or something. No, no, no, no. Okay, 2 more days next week. Yeah, um, actually I was going to talk to you about coming more than 2 days. Okay, good. How many? Maybe 4 days until we get done. You think it'll take 4 days? I'm hoping. Okay, let's knock it out. If anything, it, it would be complete besides the paint because we still have to paint in here. But all right, I would hope I could just like just get it done. Okay, yeah, let's do it. Oh my goodness, how many tiddlers do we have here at once? Everybody stay outside, we're cool.
352.
Funny. All right, Jason, you think we can carry this by ourselves? Or do you think we need Randolph? I don't know, I don't know how heavy it is. So there he is, we got the brawn. Yeah, we're just trying to figure out where we're gonna put it. I can move some stuff. Okay, I'll move some insulation. Okay, he's gonna move some insulation real quick.
You need help?
Did you pack up, Randolph? Well, I'm still packing, I almost got it. Well, it's been good. What are we going to do without you? We're 4 weeks together, buddy. I'll just have to come back by every morning anyway. Yeah, what do you suggest? What should we do? Because 3 is going to be lopsided. Maybe, maybe 2. One here and one there and one on the end. They will kind of be further in, you know what I'm saying? We'll take some weight off the end for you.
Oh, you guys want to Here, get in the middle.
Yeah, it will, it will. You're right, I got it. All right, there it is. We survived. We survived the 300-pound door move.
Come sit over here and get in your time.
We are severely outnumbered. 3 adults, 12 niños. You guys look so lovely in y'all's dresses. You're welcome. Now we gotta go easy because there's so many kids. All right, we've got them lined up out the door because it's gonna get crazy. Come on, Jesse.
Just, uh, um, you can let one other person in here. Where?
Come on, go eat your meatballs. 4 meatballs. Come back.
I need roasted carrots.
Half a spoonful of carrots. There's raw carrots. Get them all the raw carrots.
As much as you want.
Yes, we have lots of raw carrots.
So many raw carrots. And then they can fight to the death.
Just come back for more. That doesn't fill you up? Come on, here, get all these you want. Oh, okay.
Can I cut this up and dump it out?
Or not. We're doing 2 at a time. Roasted carrots, raw carrots, carrot meatballs, carrot salad. Everything must be carrots. No, only roasted carrots and raw carrots. We got cucumbers and beef, and I wonder if that cabbage— is that from our land yet? That, that sauerkraut? No. Okay, boy, we've got the crew. Bunch of little boys, no shirts on. You want more? All the little boys, 5 and under.
Yeah, this is a 5 and under crew. We got the best crew.
