I Took My Family on a Date | But Why

The video follows a day in the life of a farming family as they blend work and leisure while emphasizing group cooperation. The narrator (Speaker A) starts the morning by recalling a lesson from the audiobook 7 Habits of Highly Successful People about encouraging teamwork, then leads the family through various farm chores—finding rain boots, herding cows, fixing fences, and milking—while repeatedly stressing the importance of working together. Throughout the chores, the family discusses practical tips (e.g., using an Energizer, calf‑nursing tricks) and jokes, showcasing their dynamic interactions. After completing the farm tasks, the family heads to the Biltmore House candlelight event, a special outing the narrator had arranged as a reward for the family’s collective effort. The trip includes navigating shuttle parking, exploring the massive historic house, and enjoying the festive decorations, all framed as a celebration of the teamwork practiced on the farm. The vlog concludes with reflections on how the day’s collaborative work translated into a fun, bonding experience, reinforcing the narrator’s belief that group cooperation is more valuable than individual rewards.

Good morning, guys! Do you know what today is? It's a very special day. We've all been working hard on the farm. Got a little reward for everyone. While I was milking yesterday, I was listening to my audiobook, 7 Habits of Highly Successful People. Good morning, Lily. I hope you have a good day. Good morning, Lily. I hope It all goes your way. And one thing I got out of that book, particularly yesterday, is it was talking about encouraging group cooperation. Are you bringing that? Okay, Mom, you're ironing for our big date tonight, right? It's a family date tonight. We got all these nice clothes for the funeral. We thought, how can we make the best use so we're not just wearing them once. Hey, look, Mama Cow is right there. Come on, buddy.
I don't know where they went around and found your boots, guys.
I promise I cannot make this stuff up. Yeah, those are wet though. See, they're still drying out. We should probably put them by the fire. Find your rain boots or your play shoes that you wore yesterday.
The one is inside.
Okay, but you need two. Oh, look who's in the doghouse. Well, there's one. Really, it shouldn't be that far away unless you walked around with one shoe on for a long time. Oh, what? I turned on this light and it was pointed towards my face. Hey, look under the couch, bro.
Yep.
You found it? Good. All right.
Don't need no luck finding them. They're gonna be right there.
Let's— let me get this straight. You just said you don't need no luck finding them because they're right there?
Yeah, they were right there. They're gonna be right there.
You know what my dad would make me do?
What?
I don't need any luck finding them. And he would make me say it 10 times. Why?
Because you said, I don't know, I don't need no luck.
Yeah, my pop was a bit of a grammar police. Got the apples, please. All right, let's go. How are you chickens doing this morning, Lily?
Good.
How you doing this morning?
Good. Do you want to ride the cow train instead of me?
Oh my. I guess that's a thought. I don't know.
She can hold you.
Somebody told me they, they don't have the structure, bone structure, as a horse, so they're not— I think it's one thing for you to ride them, but it might be too dangerous for the cow for me to ride them. Hey, I would 100% if I knew it wasn't going to hurt the cow. I could ride stud muffin, I'll give you that. But old Phyllis, I don't know, she's gonna go right through. It's, uh, Moose. We're gonna have struggle. What do you mean, take her?
She ain't gonna get in the stanchion and stay.
Okay, and you're gonna go get Moose?
Actually, you'll get Moose and I'll be there. Okay, I'll run out there.
I think he might have gave me the bad job. Did he give me the bad job? I might have to go chase a calf. Good morning, Aunt Flossie. How you doing? Friendly, friendly gal. Let's go move the luchadors first. Oh, can you do it? As I was thinking about group cooperation here. And what we do here is I just— I want us all to work together as a family and get something positive done. It's, you know, we're growing our own food, but it's almost more about the journey than the destination. It's almost more about just us working together as a family being even maybe the most important element, even more than how much meat is in our freezers.
What a brother feeding him cheese.
What a brother. Hands got cold. Big brother feeding you cheese.
We've gone so far on trial and error, knowing how— what we need to do. Yeah, because we didn't know how to tie these together. Yeah, and now we do. And we didn't think about maybe putting the Energizer— yeah, between— yeah, right here, and then When you move, you don't have to move the Energizer, especially.
That's true. Yeah, you can set the Energizer in one place a certain way that you only have to move it every other day, even though we're moving our fence every day. Maybe that calf will go ahead of Stud. Look, he's about to pass him. Yay! All right, Jonah, go around.
Let's go around.
Whoa, now he's backtracking. Shoot. Okay, let's get— trying to herd this guy back. Come on, hey, here you go, go back. Why are you pushing her forward? Okay, there we go, good. And one thing I got out of that message was group rewards. He talked about companies trying to encourage performance in a group, in cooperation with a group, by having rewards, like individual rewards, like beach rewards for the top performer. Well, that doesn't really encourage group cooperation. Hearing that, I was immediately satisfied and happy that weeks ago I had gotten our family tickets to the Biltmore House. Candlelight event. Jonah, go turn it on. She's trying to push this fence. Last thing we need, Jonah, is this cow to start pushing through these fences. We will have to get rid of you. You don't want that. Okay, he ran right past. It's this again. When we're gonna fix— when they're gonna fix this? I put this up, he goes out right here. All right, go get him. I guess you go get him while I— do you want me to put this down? You know what, I'm in a hurry. I gotta get farm chores done, gotta edit, gotta, gotta errand in town. I want to go to this candlelight thing tonight. I don't have time for this, but I don't know if I ever have time for this, so let's fix this. They're all staying here. American, stand back. Good boy, good boy. Uh-oh, uh-oh. What in the world? Bring him back up this way. Come on, you know where to go. Come on. There we go. All right. Can you come block this gate? Okay, Gideon's gonna block the gate. He's right there. He needs to come down here. I'm gonna put this fence up. Can you maybe do that a hair better, like get it untangled? Hold this, please. You see that? Let me see that quick. Okay, bring that camera.
Right here, we're using it up right now, and we can do or do without. Pop the what hammer? The Leatherman.
All right, we got 2 strands up there, 4 there. All right, let's try it again, Jonah. Yeah, electrocute it there, Jonah. Do you see the pinchers to get between the 2? You bring him down, I'll keep him from going in here and back through there.
I'm gonna keep him coming from here.
You keep him from going that way. Okay, he's gonna try it. He's gonna tempt it. Oh no, he senses it too. You let him nurse a little bit to get the milk going? Okay, come get him though. He's done, he's done. We don't want him getting any of our milk. His collar came out clean from yesterday's poop.
I'll let him nurse while I put it on.
This event is just totally out of the norm for us, totally not related to farming. It's just go and look at this beautiful house, the largest house in America. Enjoy the Christmas lights, enjoy the candles, and just do something together fun as a family.
This trick, if you ever want to do something with a calf, put it on the mama cow before you milk it, and you might not get as much milk, but you'll be able to get whatever you want done.
Oh, good tip. Come help me milk. Come on, you gonna help me milk? All right, back at it.
Cool.
Can you go kill the camera? You know how to turn the camera off?
Kill the camera?
Yeah.
What button do you hit?
Hit that button on top.
Well, I see— is it black?
Yes. Okay, it's on my side.
And if I know this— okay, it's on your side.
Yeah. From outside of the lens. Yep. Hit that button on top. No, see it on top?
This button?
Yeah, that's it. Hit it. Nope, nope. Hit the one in the front. There you go. All right, now don't get too crazy. Don't be crazy. Our room is clean. We got our stuff right there. Are we gonna calmly get dressed? Don't pull the mirror down. That's not the definition of calm. Yeah, at first when we started getting ready for this thing, I'm thinking, Rebecca's thinking, is this really worth it? Like, it's a pain. It's a pain to get the kids dressed, to get us dressed, um, to look nice but also stay warm but not be too warm, dealing with the weather. Is it gonna— like, is this worth it? I was starting to wonder, and so was Rebecca.
I think I looked great for the funeral. I think I look like I'm going to a funeral every time I put this on.
That's true. Maybe that blue sweater will help.
Where's my shoes? Your shoes are right there.
Everybody looking sharp. That looks good.
That looks like a great thing. I think you look good.
I think you look sharp. Let me see ya. Woo! You look sharp. Jonah, Josiah, looking good. How do I look?
You look great.
Thank you. Uh, it's a half hour away. Come on, come on. We headed out there. And, you know, traffic was more than we expected.
Shall we?
Okay.
Well, y'all, I didn't print out tickets like I was supposed to and all this stuff, so I hope it all works out. And we're running late too, and we were supposed to be here at 5.
I know. Now that you've read your tickets. And then we got lost. We got lost a little bit trying to get in here. We wanted to walk up to the house, but we somehow we ended up in the shuttle parking lot. So we're gonna try the shuttles. We took a shuttle. We've never taken a shuttle before. Are we supposed to take a shuttle? We've always parked and walked. What's going on here? We're all sitting together. We're on the right bus. We're going to the house, so does that mean we got it right?
I guess.
We're not going all over the estate? I have no idea. But you know, it was kind of fun. Instead of getting upset, I think we all used our group power, what we've learned about working together on the farm, into this world, and it all made it a much more pleasant experience. It's like a soccer team after winning an event going and celebrating in some way. It was like that. It was really cool. No animals. Uh-oh.
What?
I think you're gonna have to stay here. You get the joke? No animals. But instead of our children over here celebrating this event with this group, and the other child over here celebrating with this group, and us, um, celebrating with at our work or something— no, we were all together celebrating each other and the work we had accomplished this year. Hang there, hang, hang with me there, Moose. Moose is pulling on the fence here, which by the way, I saw a really neat way to make a better fence system here. Now that we kind of know that this fence doesn't really need to move, we can kind of do something permanent and make it look really nice. I saw it there at Biltmore last night. Jonah, look, this is how we should do our stanchion fence.
This is how we want to do the fence around—
woven wire. In wood. Oh yeah, is there really a candle in there? Oh, that's a real candle inside of a paper bag! Look at this Christmas tree! It's more than one. Once we got inside, like an hour and a half late, I mean, I guess it didn't really matter because it wasn't like a show or something. You just walked through the house, uh, supposed to be due at a certain time, but it didn't matter, and we had a great time. What would you feel like if you got invited and you sat right there?
That'd be fun. That would be fun.
Get one of these presents under the tree.
Would you want to get one of the presents? Yeah. This is the music room. To the right of the fireplace is a rare collection of 12— Are they real?
Yeah, they're real. So what everybody think about America's biggest home?
Good.
Good.
That was fun.
Was that good to get a break and have some fun together?
Yeah, that's a ginormous home.
It was a ginormous home. And you did so good in there. You look so handsome.
The maids probably went to all those rooms.
Who did? The maids?
Yeah.
Yeah, all 250 rooms.
Well, no, they had different maids, didn't they?
Yeah, I'm sure they had 30 servants. Yeah, I was just thinking— Oh, there we go. All right, Mom went down the hand sanitizer since you were touching everything.
We're done. Let's get back to the farm.
In the end, I think it was a huge success. I think it was a huge bonding. We bond over work, but we also bond over play, and that was great. And in fact, this morning Jonah asked me, can we go again tonight? So it was a win.
