I’m split in 5 different directions

Victor Justin Rhodes documents a chaotic day on his family homestead juggling farm chores, content creation, and hosting friends. He treats their cow Honey for mastitis, moves the pig pen, expands garden beds, films a cooking segment, and prepares for a visit from Ben and Meg of the Holler Homestead.

I love it when I've been up and at 'em and going and those two are just hunking their shoes. Something manly about it. Alright, man, let's go. Come on, it's time. Y'all been up. Jonah, come on. Were y'all just gonna start a game? No. It's cold outside. No, we gotta go. I might have a gambling problem. You ready for your big day?
Yep.
Checking out a horse today. Big fat one.
Not fat, he's muscly.
Think this is the one?
No, but I think every horse is the one.
Oh, you slept good last night?
Sort of.
And you got up right away this morning. You must be excited. Soaking beans plus 7 pounds of ground beef, that could only mean 2 big families are getting together, us and the Hollers from the Holler Homestead today. Love how when you're a homesteader, you can just get together on a Tuesday midday. The whole families too, the whole family. How do I get y'all to come? You leave us alone. Yeah, and then you'll come. Looking buff, man. Y'all's weight training's working out. How many weeks you been working out now? Good 2 months. La la la, la la, let me be free. Happy day. Welcome to another day in our home-based life where we work from home, grow food from home, homeschool, home birth, everything from home. Although today does include a jaunt away from home to look at this horse for Lily. Let's get it going again, right? Hashtag horse for Lily. I am kind of hoping I can get done with my chores so I can help the boys with theirs as we assess and treat Honey for some mastitis. Our family cows, the most important thing at the farm. We gotta make sure they're well. Let's hurry up and get our chores done. Taking the time out for chores. Uh, you want me to get a real rope halter too? She already sees me coming with it. I don't know what you're doing. The, uh, load of water. See, what's going on? You can't do that. Hold on, hold on. Eat your food. You got to stir it in for one. Okay, we'll stir it in. Now what are we gonna do? Okay, give her some more in there. She wouldn't touch it with that in there. Now we're gonna, we're gonna just try to capture her head. Let's get her on, let's get her on the front feet. If not, well, let's put her in the stanchion. I'll spot you. I vote we get her into the stanchion. We put her in the stanchion. We got to keep He-Man away. Oh, you got her a little easier today when she's hungry. Yeah. Oh, she's refusing. Let it go over her nose. That'll get it. There you go. There you go. Probably the best thing to do is get everybody in there and then cut Honey out. This is the best thing to do. You cut out. Okay, here we go. There we go. All right, shut the door. Okay, bring a— bring a pan of alfalfa, please. Yeah, she's crazy. She still wants all this. Still hungry for alfalfa. Okay, y'all ready? Yes. Oh, we're gonna horn us. She's so mad. He's looking at you. Just, uh, come out and kind of see this. These guys will grab beefcakes. These guys are happy. It's a good situation. You've tilled as much as you have, haven't you? We need to prep these garden beds, which means we need to get these pigs out of here. That's my today and tomorrow's project. I don't have much time right now, so I'm thinking I might have 20 minutes. Let's get all the supplies together. Pig port's going to be moved on out. It'll still be next to the garden, but the garden— the garden's getting expanded through here. We'll put a lean-to off of both sides and extend their deep bedded run, keeping them separated. That's what we're going to work on now, just getting all those supplies together. Looks like I have my lumber. I need about 10 sticks, 8 feet. I hear a lot of noise up there. I just realized the beautiful one's filming at 9. I'm leaving at 9. Lily's leaving at 9. I need to make sure things are smooth before I leave. We're gonna have to pick up in here, guys. Okay, it's solid, so it's charged. Okay, I'm torn in all kinds of ways. Your point person needs to be Annie or Jonah. Okay, Mom's filming. Why are we taking the Suburban?
Because I don't know where the truck is.
Josiah continuing to build, rebuild from Hurricane Helene. We're getting pretty close. We might get done in the next couple of days of working. You go to Annie if you need something for the next hour, okay? Just play and have fun on your Jeep. Is there even a tree here? Yeah, where? It's right there. I don't know why. This is partly why we're getting rid of this fence, so that we can actually get in there and clean up around it, protect our trees. We were having to do this anyway, is we just put a Premier net around them when we're in here grazing, because the cows were reaching over the fence and taking out the trees. So we had to put net around them anyway, so we're just going to take off the fence. I'm getting in trouble. Torn. Is that my knife? I think so. Are you gonna need it today or can I have it back right now? We're using it. All right, give it back to me after it's done. We split how many ways? Horse, hauling material, splitting fence, filming a cooking show. 5 if you count Henry playing around in his Jeep.
We're leaving right now. We're out of 10 minutes. All right, I wanted to leave at 9 o'clock because I knew you would take forever to get in the car.
So really, we're leaving on time?
No, we were leaving really late because you wouldn't let me leave at 9 o'clock like I wanted us to.
Well, you know we're going to do this during project time, right?
Yeah.
Yeah, so we're gonna have a little mercy. Hey bud, I'm gonna give you a head. All right, I'll take it. All right, I like this. Oh, thank you. You have fun. Thanks, Annie, for watching it. That was fun. A good little bonus.
This is Max.
Hi, boy. Describe him.
He's an Appaloosa, like the breed, not the color.
Josiah has got that pile almost gone. Wow. Jonah and John almost have all the fence posts off. Man, it's turned out to be a very beautiful day. Guests are here. I haven't been over here for a minute. We're gonna do a sit-down interview with, uh, Ben and Meg from the Holler Homestead. So all we got to do is get Ben coffee. Yeah, he'll work for coffee. I'll do a lot of things for coffee, especially good coffee. And a little Elizabeth gonna do the show with us, I guess. She is, yep. Every day is bringing a kid to work down the homestead.
Are you ready?
You're one of the most requested people that we would sit down and talk to. Really?
Really?
Yeah. What do you think, Ben? When do, um, there's a big old boy right here.
When are pigs done? Like, when can they— when do you— you know what I mean?
That I don't know. I heard it was 5. Yeah, it's like 5 or 6. So he's there. We're gonna have to retire him, babe. Can I see the Scooby, y'all? You got a little baby SCOBY. What does this mean?
What do you mean?
Tell me what it's growing. Well, tell people what a SCOBY is then.
It's the, it's the thing that grows the kombucha.
Is this the little things?
No, it's like the whole layer thing.
And now what do we got to do?
We just keep letting it grow. I think I'm going to feed it again. Look at the side of it, like, see that?
Yeah, you gotta still be going on that.
This is the apple cider vinegar.
That's supposed to happen?
Yeah, it does create like a—
I know that's not mold because it's not. We're making our own apple cider vinegar now. You have a good time visiting the Hollands. It's good to knock out some content and visit friends at the same time. I like them. That podcast will be dropping this Friday on YouTube, so stay tuned. Happy day.
