I’m taking My Son on a Man Trip | What I’m Up To

Victor Justin Rhodes takes his son Jonah on a road trip in a Tesla, discussing autopilot and charging while sharing a mentorship lesson from his mentor Steve about the difference between a boy's taking and a man's giving. They stop for sunset kayaking and document farm life updates along the way.

Higher the steering wheel.
What? Need to show the farm sitter Luke how to properly get kicked. And look, I'm right here, right up on her leg. It's kind of scary, but really it's more like this than a punch. If you get— if she does something and she lifts her leg, I've got my left arm Hold it off. What do you think, Luke? You pretty confident? Oh, we'll get her done. She didn't— she didn't misbehave for me today. I'm sure she will. She'll misbehave for you tomorrow when she's not on camera. We have a little problem. It's leaning. Hopefully this straightens out when we move it. Well, still jacked up. Yeah, let's just pull this. Let's just pull this one. I've got it attached to one leg.
Oh yeah, look how weak that is.
I mean, I'm I don't think it'll last probably a week at this rate. Yeah, so that'd be where my money would go. It's for the 4x4. Yeah, and these braces have been ripped up. I feel much better about that. We got it straight. Luke seems to have a good plan. We're just getting this thing perfected for us and for you guys. Family goodbye. Oh, oh.
You too. Have fun.
Bye-bye.
See you on Saturday.
See you Saturday. We got 180 miles on this battery.
It's good.
I think the place— the charging place is in 150. You think we'll make it? If it's literal miles, we should make it. Looks like it automatically took us to the Told us where to go to get it charged. That's a lot of them. All right, how do we do this? Do we just do it?
Is that all we do? How do you tell?
I think it charges his card automatically.
Then how do you tell?
I think it goes to the key. You think it's charging?
Let's see.
Shows it's charging, right?
Um, yeah. Yeah.
Because the green?
30 minutes remaining. Look how fast those numbers are.
Whoa!
You can kind of see this moving too.
This is super cool. We've put in our destination and it always picks a— it picks out a charging station along the way if you can't make it. And it is, and it's showing us how much battery we'll have left by the time we get there. And we sit here and that keeps going up. Put us on YouTube while we wait. Yeah. That's crazy! This is what I like— I'm liking about the Tesla. So let's say we're driving and you just take your hand off the wheel, it's about to go off the edge, it pulls you back on its own. It did?
It pulled you back?
Yeah, can't even— can't accidentally drive off the road. Well, we're filling up. I should say we're not filling up. We're, we're charging. This is kind of cool. I learned this man trip trick from my mentor Steve. One of the goals is to talk about— you want to do this— is to talk about the difference between a boy and a man. My mentor puts it perfectly: the boy takes and the man gives. For a boy, the world centers around him, but for a man, he realizes he's just a little speck in the world. And the man is selfless and serves. There comes a time that a child, you know, takes, takes, takes from the family, right? And then there's a time where they become neutral, and then there's a time where the child gives more than they take. I think you've been in that giving stage for quite a long time now. Things are getting a lot easier around the house and the farm and business because of you. So I think you're— well, this is just a celebration of you becoming a man. This isn't because we've already put it into work, I think. I'm gonna try autopilot. Yep, the moment everybody's been waiting for. We are on autopilot.
Disengage.
I'm gonna keep my hands right here, but I'm not gonna touch the steering wheel.
It's a bummer, we're on a nice long stretch.
This is crazy.
What do you think?
That's crazy.
I can speed it up. And did I show you this yet. Like, on cruise control, if you're behind somebody and you're going really fast, it automatically slows you down. I mean, if somebody's in front of you, it will automatically slow you down. And then when you— if you shift lanes or they get out of the way, it'll automatically speed you back up.
Okay, the vet was just here and we got our blood work back on Autumn. Of course it was all negative like we thought it would be. They did TB tests and they're coming back on Friday.
Ding ding ding, we've arrived! Mom did good picking this out. Lemons. Shoes off in the house. Rebecca will appreciate that. Is this you? Me? Yeah. Cabbage. I'm going to kiss the cabbage.
Oh my gosh.
Little washer, dryer. Bok choy. You can be upstairs all you want, man.
I'm right here.
First order of activities: sunset kayaking.
It's gonna be really fun.
This is a 2-hour tour. It's 6:20. Supposed to be— we come in as the sun sets. We're about to go through the inlet, through the reeds. Wow, look at that!
It's pretty.
My second goal would be that We just get some one-on-one time, fun time, bonding time. So far so good. We'll never forget this. We're back. You gotta see that sunset though. Wow. Okay, how do you rate it, Jonah? How'd you rate that kayaking trip? 8. 8.
It was fun.
Okay, I give it a 7.5-ish. It was really good. My shoulders are going to be sore tomorrow. Your shoulder's going to be sore. Yeah, he kept up, man. I was impressed. He said we were his best tour yet. I don't know if that's saying too much for like the 4th one he's done.
Look at that.
There's one more thing. There's one more goal. And that's to let him know that he can trust me, tell me anything. You hear that, Jonah?
Uh-huh.
And you can ask me anything. And if we don't know, if I don't know the answer, I'll ask somebody or we'll go talk to Mr. Google Pants. But you can talk to me about anything. We're gonna have a good time. We're gonna bond. And sleep.
