Gosh, is he trying to jinx me?
Hey guys, it's like 7:15. We're running late. I'm no good to you today. Just gonna go see if we have a rat.
No rat!
What the heck?
30. Gosh, not even in that one. That's disappointing.
Josiah, did you get a rat?
Nope. None?
Did they get the peanut butter?
Nope.
Mom just got my sleep score.
I did get an 87, but—
That's better.
10 hours and 30 minutes you were in bed, but you only got 7 hours and 53 minutes. Your heart rate is still higher.
My wrist is, is getting there. Look, my hand swelling's going down. But now it's this ankle. Like, throbbing pain even just laying there. What is the deal? We got Joel coming next week. Am I really gonna be escorting him around in cubby? I don't know. Jonah just saw a roon running up the hill. Towards the sheep. I hope it's not one of them. Say that again?
There's a sheep stuck in the fence, but it's fine.
Oh, okay.
I was just calling out and saying that.
The baby lambs are out.
Oh, they're out. There goes Jonah with us, the crook and alfalfa. He knows what to do. I'm sure it's because they were weaned yesterday in a separate fence and probably challenged it. Hopefully they didn't get shocked a lot. This is one thing I can do— watch the baby while Mama showers. Josiah's back. So was there a lamb caught in the fence?
Yep.
Was it getting shocked?
Yep.
You think it just happened?
Yeah, I wouldn't saw it happen. He ran up and, um, and they got it free.
You're getting a little fussy. See if big brother pick you up, make you a little happy. I got some ice on my foot. I'm about to limp out there, see what I can do. Did the babies all get out?
Yep.
With the mamas? Did they nurse?
Nope.
How'd you get them away from the mamas?
We had to catch every single one.
How'd you catch the babies?
Until the— until baby came, then he would grab it and put it in.
Really? Wow. Arun would catch it? Wow. Good job, guys. Looks like he likes that. That blood work this morning, by the way, that was an extensive Lyme test for me and Rebecca's normal thyroid monitoring. Rebecca put a brace on my leg.
Well, we're not 100% sure that this is, um, the reactive arthritis. We think it might be the reactive arthritis, but he also fell On July 4th, you know what, twice in the field. So we're thinking that that could be it, um, like maybe it's like twisted plus reactive arthritis. So I don't know, we're not 100% sure. But, um, good news, we talked to his doctor last night because his inflammation markers were really high on last Monday. So today is Wednesday, so like 10 days ago And the doctor who ordered those tests is our family doctor, and the other doctor is like our Lyme doctor, our functional medicine doctor. Anyways, she wanted— the family doctor wanted to make sure that we retest him for everything just to kind of keep an eye on what's happening in his body. You got your feet on?
Yeah, I got my shoes.
You got your shoes?
Well, I'm some size.
I know he's wearing his, um I hope the delivery people don't come now.
I'm gonna be out there in my sweatpants, in your pajamas, t-shirt, basically slippers. Don't know what to do about this rat problem. Um, actually, we could talk to Joel about it. We got to slow the chicks down. We just found out we can. McMurray Hatchery is working with us on that. I'm thinking we need to put it off. Rebecca wants to build a cage, which I don't mind that idea at all, because then the— we wouldn't have to worry about shutting this door. If we forgot, it wouldn't be the end of the world, and the cats wouldn't be able to get in there and get them. So she would— her idea is a, is a, is a cage that goes down into the shavings. But that's a lot to get done. Randolph is coming Thursday and Friday, but hopefully Randolph's going to be working on these chick— these rabbit hutches. Which is absolute must because the rabbits are coming with Joel next week. One of you guys told me about the mink man. He uses minks and dogs to rat out rats. No, really? Oh goodness, he's saying we have a sick pig. Oh my gosh, why is it all arched up? It's not coming. It's not coming to its food. Okay, do we have some charcoal around? Yeah, she is not eating. Is that our breeder too? Shoot, I think it is the one we would not want to get sick. Did she eat at all this morning? Maybe make herself sick?
She might have been eating a lot of corn and ate a lot of dirt with it.
Okay, they're about out of water. We should probably clean out their water while we're at it. So here's all their mineral— here's You got NutriBalance in there and charcoal. Okay, let's see if she'll take any. Yeah, she got her eyes closed.
Yeah, no, it's open.
Okay, I don't know how well Becky's going to handle this. I actually don't think it has anything to do with me being out, but I don't know, we'll feel like it's our fault or something. Hey, we have a sick pig. Yeah, one of the little ones. It's the breeder, the little breeder.
Oh no.
Yeah, didn't come to food, laying down. It did get up, but it didn't come to food, laying back down. So we got it charcoal and NutriBalancer.
What about kelp?
We'll add some kelp to it. Vitamin C. I was thinking— oh, vitamin C. Yeah, I was thinking this drench, 50/50 apple cider vinegar and water. Yeah, half a gallon maybe. We have lots of apple cider vinegar, but I could put it in like 5— 55-gallon water.
Okay, hold on a second.
See what the apple cider vinegar guys say about treating pigs with it.
When mixing in a water tank, add 1 to 2 cups of ACV to 20 gallons of water. And then, but for treatment, the standard dose is 1 ounce per 100 pounds of body weight.
Let's do 2 cups per 20 gallons, just, just like regular maintenance in their water, Rebecca. And then for the treatment of this pig, 1 ounce. This doesn't go by ounces, this goes by milliliter, Rebecca. How do I know how much an ounce is? 29.5. Okay, all right, well that's about half of this, so we'll do half of it and ACV and half of it water. Nothing like animals to keep you going, right? Animals and tiddlers. I guess we'll just go pull it out of there. So this is— we got to go syringe into this pig's mouth. What's in this? Apple cider vinegar and water. Let's get some kelp in that one and vitamin C. Kelp, vitamin C. That's good. Yeah. What could we put a bowl on just to get it off the mulch? That's disgusting. Trying to grab our other feeders, uh, some grain so they're distracted. She's moved. She went all the way. She's over in the corner. Okay, we also need to put 5 cups of apple cider vinegar in their fresh water. Yeah, that filled up nice. She's up. You're gonna have to see if you can't pin her and syringe her. Look, she arches that back. Oh, she's pooping. Is it solid?
It's solid.
Wow, okay, that's a good sign. Come on, Jonah, you have to move. Wow, she's strong. Yeah, if you can hold her against the wall, maybe. Okay, well, we don't want to stress her out too much. Yeah, she's not sick enough that she's gonna sit there for that. Jonah, see if she'll just do it. See if she'll just do it laying down. Is it going, Jonah? Yep. Okay, she took— is she drinking or is she spitting it out? She's getting some. She got some? Yeah, she's swallowing it. Yes, you got it. Yeah. All right, pour that in there. Thank you. We better go milk because we're gonna have other problems. Be worse if a cow's sick. Mastitis. Well, look who Come out! Well, he's all about it, buddy. He's looking all around. You're gonna be all about this, aren't you? You won't ever complain about milking the cow, will you?
He'll love it. Always.
Oh yeah, always. 10:15, the carrier's called and they've got something. Hopefully it's the rabbit hutch because, uh, Randolph is coming tomorrow. It could be our feed order. Uh, we're not as pressed on the feed as we are that— although rabbit food is coming in the feed order, but we need the cages today because Randolph's available tomorrow. Carrier's coming at 11. I'm gonna keep fighting this thing. Oh, he didn't pull the— he didn't pull that up. Anyway, I'm gonna keep fighting this thing one bath at a time. Lily just came out of the greenhouse. She went and got cucumbers on her own accord. She's still sick. It's kind of nice having this window right outside our bedroom, able to check on the animals. He's here, the truck is here. Let's cross our fingers it's the rabbit stuff.
He did just wake up.
Cooking with Arun Kumar today. Indian Wednesday. Love it. We have an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. Yeah, for my implants. He's actually checking today that the implants— have they taken? He's got to do one more step if they have. It's super easy. No, he tests them, which is like a light surgery, so So it's been years since they've been able to chew on this side. So it's gonna help with overall balance. This is something we've started— was it— it's been over a year we started this implant process.
No, we started this process in November of 2019 after your father passed away. Oh my gosh.
He's got this brace on. It's helping. I zipped my zipper. My hand, look.
But look at— he's getting so thin.
173 pounds today.
He's wasting away.
I was 193 pounds just 2 months ago.
This is his nap. It's like his good afternoon nap.
So maybe he'll stay in it, but I doubt it. We're back. Sorry we didn't document it at all.
Yeah.
But anyway, it's good news.
I did take a picture.
Early August, I can— they can go do the test. They don't even have to put me to sleep.
Yep.
Uh, he said go ahead and schedule the dentist 2 weeks after that. Yep. It's good. We got some good news. We needed that.
You scared me, Teddy. Come on.
Teddy acts like he hasn't seen you in 10 years. Becca, thank you for fixing my plate.
You're welcome.
Arun unfortunately cannot join us. I know, but this looks delish. Is tonight the night, Beck? I don't think I have any new pains.
I thought you were gonna be better.
That I'm gonna wake up surprised with at night. I just took a monster nap. It did— I think when I rest and then I get back on it, it's hard. So let's just hope, let's just hope.
Do you want more pickles?
Tonight's the night. Yeah, no, no, just— that's enough. Thank you. All right, tonight's the night.
Tonight's the night.
