Laying Out Her Dream Kitchen

This content was created by Victor Justin Rhodes. This content was uploaded by Victor Justin Rhodes. This is a YouTube vlog titled "Laying Out Her Dream Kitchen" (created 2023-10-12). The excerpt is a multi-speaker family/homestead recording featuring a primary narrator (SPEAKER A) and other family members (SPEAKER B, SPEAKER C, Rebecca, plus mentions of Jonah, Henry, Josiah, Randolph, Grandma). The content captures informal, day-of-life activity on a farm: discussing a book (Toby Dog), doing chores (feeding chickens, moving pigs, milking a calf/cow), troubleshooting escaping chickens and fence repairs, dealing with water and power access for outlying areas, and planning a home remodel — specifically laying out kitchen cabinets with blue tape and coordinating with a cabinet maker/interior designer. The tone is casual and domestic, focused on practical tasks, family interactions, and timeline/goal mentions (Thanksgiving, a child’s birthday).
Chapters
I showcased this new book on Monday, told you I'd have a review by the end of the week. Toby Dog of Goldshaw Farm. I'm about a third of the way done, enjoying it thoroughly. He has her tied to a leash. What's going on? Lift up my hoof. Are you a horse? Does that make you the farrier or the cowboy?
I don't know, he's the cowboy.
Whatever gets them excited about doing chores. That's a young adult fiction book. Yes! Well, here's for the Weenies. Pork liver. Winnie, where you at? Yum. Adults, I'm pretty sure that's a hack. Adults, read adult fiction. Tends to be so easy to read. It's fantastical. When I say fantastical, I'm referring to like fantasy. It like takes you to another world. And this is of particular interest because There's his shoes. He's looking for them. Hey, hey, Gideon, come here. I got something for you. That's what a good book, a good movie, a good story can do. It can take you to another world. This one happens to be a homestead world from a dog's perspective. Hey, come here, Gideon. I got something for you. Come here. Look what's in Sally. Wouldn't you rather wear your boots? We're on a mission to fallify, fallify, like autumnify this farm. But I must be on standby. The sickness is going around. Jonah's in the bed. Mom's got to get stuff to our cabinet maker for the homestead remodel. That has to be priority number one.
Hey, Papa.
You got you a good horse. Where's your egg basket, bro?
Oh, right there.
All right, lucky dog. What are you gonna do with all three of these rope halters when you're done?
There's only two.
There's one in here. That wasn't the question.
These two, we're gonna put them— we're probably not gonna put them away.
There's the truth. We're probably not gonna put them away. I'd love to just come over here Look around. Smell. I love this house. I love the Holler House. We're trying to get in it as soon as possible. But the cabinet maker gave us one of those, hey, you gotta get us this info to get in line. See what the beautiful one, interior designer, has come up with. You'll get to see it today. But right now, I'm doing chores on standby for a little later when they wake up and she needs some support with Henry so she can get some of this work done. Let's get the auto feeder. And extra water down to the chickens. Didn't need our chickens up here by the garden anymore. Well, because the garden's pretty much done, so we're gonna make life easier for us, particularly the farm sitter. What do you need me to do? Milk. What are you doing? Moving the pigs. You lost the GoPro? Fell out of Salma. You're gonna go with the pigs right now? Do we need to cover any fences? Mama's calling. Yes, there. I see a whole lot of chickens in. I pulled it taut with corners. I put FiberTuff posts in. I put garden staples in. 2 little chickens out, plus a big mama chicken. At some point you have some ornery chickens, not lack of fortress. How much time and energy am I going to put into fortifying this to keep 3 rogue chickens in? I don't know. Might be time to cull. Just let them be. It's natural cold. You got any idea how to keep these chickens in or how they're getting out? I do think I see some weaknesses. I got an idea. My only guess, this bottom strand is coming up off of this. We're just going to reinforce it with a staple. They might be precision flying through this. You think they're hopping through this, Josiah? Maybe one reason they're getting out— they're hungry. Yeah, that chicken basically has 12 or more hours a day to look for a gap. There it is. I'm just gonna stand here a minute and see if I can't figure out where they're getting out. Kind of poking at this fence, acting like they're just gonna go right through it. They can go right through it if they go up above the Small meshing. Yep, there it goes, there it goes, there it goes. Just saw it. We got small meshing, larger meshing. This fence is on. That chicken just went right through it. It's just so light and nimble and little. So it's not the tightness of my fence, it's not the bottom they're escaping through. Got an idea if it might help, but not sure if it will. But first we gotta get Henry, we gotta go milk him. You really ready? Can we go? Not his coat, Mom. Good, just save his teeth for when we come back. What did you just say?
Toby.
He's saying Toby. He likes the Toby dog. Stuffed animal that came with Toby Dog the book. There's your Toby. You saw it all the way from the house. Love this stage right here. Walking, talking baby.
Hey Henry, do you want to ride my horse?
Yeah, come on, come on, let's get on the horse. Nope, he don't want to go. I said, you want to get on the horse or what? And he said, what? A beautiful part of our farm. Looking beautiful. What'd you find? All right, Museum of Burl Holler now. Slight problem there. Our water hose isn't reaching. We're kind of in a nook on our farm that's far away from the well, far away from our nearest gravity-fed water tap. We haven't tapped this with water yet. I put two hoses from this trough to the source. It didn't reach. Give me one second, honey. I also got to get power to these fences, which is a whole nother problem. But water's the most important. Let's do that real quick. Honey, there's nothing in there, sweetie. We have a real life sand dial on the back of this truck. The milk, you want to cool it to 40 degrees an hour within you milking it. One end of the hose, the other end, maybe 20 feet. Let's get this milk. Feel like fixing you some tea and eggs, or are you busy with the remodel?
No, so, okay, I went through the remodel stuff. I need to go over to the house, like, pop the lines for stuff so I can look at it and see. I was also waiting on clarification from Jenna, and then I already made you tea.
What are you doing in here, man-o? Nope, nope. Come on. That cat has hopefully done his job and is going home this weekend. Hopefully he's bred Lily's little Sabina. Oh my word, camp out! Look at you, thanks for the egg. Oh, Sy's gonna take care of getting electricity to the cows. We're laying out the— is it the cabinets we're gonna lay out back?
The kitchen?
Yeah.
I mean, it's one thing to have it on paper, it'll be another thing to lay it out, and then you're going to have your mom come and double-check it. And Randolph has showed up. We're really gonna pop some lines now. The end of the kitchen?
Yeah, but I'm wondering if we should come out all the way to this or make a smaller cabinet, like, for like cookie sheets and stuff. You don't want it to feel too tight.
I know.
We feel so tight over there.
You're gonna be a long way over there.
I know, we're gonna be like dancing around the kitchen.
I just like coming over here. So nice. If you ever get depressed, just come over here. Original Thanksgiving goal is not gonna happen.
No, we're like, what, like we're 6-ish weeks away from Thanksgiving. Henry's birthday. Henry's birthday, February 23rd. We're gonna be in here.
Okay, we're gonna sell.
We're gonna have a birthday. We're gonna have our birthday party for him in this house.
Oh, that'd be good. I like that goal. Aim for the impossible. We're gonna have to take a break for lunch, and we're waiting on Grandma for blue tape. Yeah, so we can actually see these. Jonah, welcome to the living room. You all right? Still need to rest? Just ate lunch, cleaned up. Johnny, you still on the couch? You overdid it yesterday at airsoft, huh? Indian just went down too. 103. What is this? 103 temperature. They don't feel real bad, they're just tired. No throwing up, no puking. Grandma's there, and Rebecca just taped the floor. Let's go see this cabinet layout. The blue tape works nice. This your island? You got an island here? You got a sink in this thing? Yes. Yeah, right here, man. That's gonna be nice.
I want to flop these two to have the sink over here closer because I don't want it direct. It's like almost directly across from the Snack time.
Getting, uh, out of commission big time. So dusty. Josiah's got this calf trained very nice. Harriet might be our future milking cow right there. Up, up, up. They're not the brightest. Oh, it's, it's, it's cluttered there at the entrance. She'll figure it out. Good. Beauty's on a deadline. Rare that one of us works through supper. She's doing it because she's got to get bathroom pictures here by Tuesday. Hey, that's one way to get out of the house. Come on out, come on out, Nate. Check out Toby Dog on Amazon. That's as good as we're gonna get, folks. Happy day.
