Happy birthday! How old you gonna be?
13.
13! We have a teenage girl! Let's go do your chores. In today's vlog, following an amazing 13-year-old young lady.
Bout. Good boy.
By the way, you've got Blaze in great condition. This rotational grazing, it's doing him good. What'd you do, look up horse tricks?
No, there's this channel, um, I can't remember what it's called. It's like, um, her name and it's equestrian help, um, and she like does like lots of like videos like that, like tricks, how to play with your horse, how, how to get a horse to respect you. Kiss. Kiss. He gets nervous around the camera. Good boy, man.
I just can't get over how good he looks.
Yeah, he's getting his winter coat already. I'm gonna go cross-country with my friends on Friday, and I want to have it really good by then because then I can show them off.
Hug.
Good boy, good boy.
Does it feel good to get hugged by a horse?
Yeah. One day I'll be able to do it without a treat in my hand.
He's pretty good. He's an eager learner. Or eager snacker.
One hug. Hug. Good boy. By the way, if you're not an expert and you don't know your horse, do not wear— uh, always wear shoes.
Do not try this at home.
Never not wear shoes around a horse that you don't know. I know Blaze and I know when he'll step on my foot, so I can be careful there with that because like once I jumped off We were about to go swimming, I dropped something, I was gonna get it, and he just all— he like, um, went to one side. He does that a lot, and he stepped on my bare foot and like it ripped the skin off my toe.
All right, what do you like to feed him?
Uh, New Country Organic Senior Horse Pellets. I feed him about that much.
Not much, huh?
Yeah, pretty much.
Is that because it's summer and he's got plenty of grass?
Yeah, during the winter I'll probably feed him 1 pound of this, and then I'll probably feed him a couple handfuls of alfalfa Alfa to keep his weight on, keep him big. I'll also feed him warm water during the winter. You know what's nice about having a pony?
What?
It doesn't really cost much to feed him. It only costs us $80 for Blaze, but he eats a lot of grass and we don't charge him for grass.
$80 a month?
Yeah, and he doesn't eat hay, but during the winter it's probably about $20 a month for— I mean, like, uh, $100 a month for Blaze during the winter, $80 during the summer, and for peaches, it was like $160. I'm gonna feed Blaze, and then I'm gonna do the breakfast posse and the compost posse. When I'm trying to hold Blaze's feed and lead him, he's like trying to get it, and then he grabs hold of it and is like yanking it, and I'm like, no, no! And then he yanks it and all the feed flies out everywhere. Oh, it's A good day.
Do horses barefoot? What about doing chickens barefoot? Is it recommended?
No.
I normally, um, get— normally I do this like after breakfast and I get on shoes. Chicken is nasty. Like in pasture with horses, um, it's better because there's lots of room and you're— and you can see where the poop is. Now don't get in a horse's stall after they've been in their food. Shoo! Shoo!
No, dump that out. Okay, it's poopy. What's your favorite chore? Lays, you haven't grown sick of riding? No. Really?
No.
What's your least favorite horse chore?
Probably when it's raining and you're sick and you have to go feed your horse.
How do you know they like eating off the ground?
Because they always go to that bush. Look, no one's around there. Smell it.
It smells like nice lemon— lemon— lemon—
lemon balm.
Mom got the breakfast started. Everybody has a chore inside the house too. Lily is helping with the nails. Nice decorations in our new house. It's much festive, isn't it? Much festive. I do look forward to maybe some wall art with sound buffers behind it.
Yes, we're going to.
It's awful echoey.
This is Jessica.
Oh, I know. Friends calling her.
It's Jessica.
Oh, hi.
You're officially a teenager. Uh, thanks.
Doing a little meal shopping for Lily's birthday. What's your ice cream of choice?
Uh, chocolate, vanilla, orange, mint chocolate chip.
Well, we're gonna do vanilla. Aren't we doing vanilla because we're having a— we're having toppings and stuff. What's the difference between French vanilla and vanilla bean? This is one carton per person. I mean, how much are we gonna eat? It's missing a couple, isn't it, Lily? Hey, you'd have to pay twice the money for 4 legs, so we just got you 2. The number of balloons for the Crazy Horse lady. What'd you make us for lunch?
Um, nachos, and we have some toppings like guacamole and salsa. Yeah, and sour cream.
Our hack is leftovers. We made this last night as a taco, and now it's a nacho. And look at this, we got more salsa canned. I was hearing it pop early. It comes really loud when it pops.
It's really nice.
So we're gonna go show that to Blaze. Yeah, afternoon ride with Lily. What are you guys gonna do?
I'm gonna make hot fudge sauce and caramel sauce, and then I'm gonna get ready for tonight. I'm gonna like maybe cut up the lettuce and stuff like that.
Cool. Gideon, I heard if you help do that, you get to maybe slip a taste. Look whose birthday it is, Randall. You got any advice for a 13-year-old?
I'll say just keep riding that horse.
That's the favorite advice she's heard all day. Keep pursuing what you love.
Like my horsey with only two legs?
I do. What do you think Blaze is gonna think of that?
I don't know, he's gonna be like, you replaced me. Oh wow, he is!
He jumped!
He's like, I have a friend. Good boy. Today I set up some jumps that are a bit more spooky than normal. Like, I got some lids of some bins I found and I put them up, um, like against the pole so the jumps was a bit squeakier. And I also like got together some of our scrap wood and I made a jump with that, so it's gonna be a bit more spooky. Today, but I'm sure Blaze isn't really even gonna look at it. Blaze's birthday present to me is gonna be that he's gonna start putting his head in a better position, right boy? If he farted, that's a yes. If he snorts, that's a no.
Fart, fart, fart.
He didn't do either, so it's a maybe to me. C-E.
He's ready to go.
I'm a C-E, crazy equestrian.
You're right, he's spooked.
Why don't you go up to it?
That'll help him.
Yeah, I would, but I don't want to get off.
He got so spooked just by jumping.
Now he doesn't think it's scary at all.
It was good training, really. Good thought to walk him by it first. Uh-oh, did he duck out? That's because it's a new jump. Wow, wow! What are you doing with him?
Getting him to go over it again.
There it is! Good job! He's jumping different. I think he's spooked. There you go. What are we doing now?
I'm jumping a course.
Okay, here comes a course.
He was not supposed to do that. We're gonna go around and do it again.
Don't push him too hard, you know. There you go. Get him used to that one first, then we'll— then we'll do two in a row.
Good boy!
She's on to you, Blaze. She knows your tricks. Wow, there it is! It's a lot for the little guy. What's wrong?
I don't know, we're jumping again. Oh, I forgot to tie my girth.
Yeah, that'll do it. Tighten it up.
I did. Okay, Blaze is probably happy about it. He's like, yes, I got a break. Good boy.
Good job, Blaze. He's gonna let you stop now that you did it. You gotta reward him.
We were both good.
Let him stop working hard in here.
Yeah, buddy.
Sweet tea made.
Look at this.
This is the—
I'm looking forward to this. Is that enough? Yeah.
How much cream?
Like, this is literal all sugar. Well, I don't plan on eating anything.
I plan on eating all this. That's my cup.
We've got toppings.
How you liking your new kitchen, Dar?
I'm enjoying it.
Crushing it on this birthday. You're enjoying— you're smiling while cooking.
It's actually been a lot of fun because, like, I had the second sink. I could put my jars in there. I didn't have to worry about what was in the dirty sink.
Yes.
Should I cut these up too? I was thinking that that was so much, but now that you're like, that's not enough, I'll just cut these up.
Or canned tomato.
That's not a super thick one. Like, if you do this, they have thicker ones, but I guess we can use that.
It's fine.
What are you making now?
I'm making the crust.
Pizza crust. Lily's request is pizza. Nobody's complaining. Do you know where the pepperonis are?
In the freezer at the cabin.
There's no freezer. Oh, that freezer.
Yeah, there's no freezer at the cabin.
Where did it go? Pretty soon we're gonna have everything back into our house. It's a very cheese-based crust. It's pretty awesome. It's pretty low carb. Henry passed out. He really needed it. He woke up too early this morning. Lily wanted to go swimming this hot afternoon for her birthday. We don't have many more of those days left. Hot days.
So let's do it.
Look, we cooked off all the pizzas all at once. Did you really, Rebecca? Everyone pizza. 1, 2, 3, 4. Look at this. Good choice, Mom. How was that cooking all the, all the pizzas?
It was very nice. It was— it was a lot easier to do it in this kitchen.
So much easier. Birthdays are going to be so much easier and funner. Henry, what's the matter? You cold? You're like your mom. She's got a sweater on in here. 70. This is your kind of birthday party. How many are you gonna eat?
This.
You're gonna eat that? I'm gonna eat this one. Those ones got my name on it. What does it matter?
It's French vanilla.
Okay, what's the difference between French vanilla and vanilla? It's special. I'm gonna find out tonight. Hey, is it your birthday? He's been telling me, but it's his birthday all day. What date is today?
Yesterday.
Yesterday? What day of the week is it?
Yesterday.
Henry, what state do we live in? Do I have The White House. He calls this holler house the White House. Do you want to move back to the yellow house?
Guys, can I get my cookies?
No. I bet that one's better. What toppings did you get, birthday girl?
All of them.
Did you?
She got—
what do you call that, a suicide? All right, what's the difference between— I just did vanilla bean. Okay, and French vanilla.
Now don't you guys get sick, okay?
I cannot tell the difference.
Ready? Happy birthday to you.
Happy birthday to you.
Happy birthday, dear Lily.
Happy birthday to you. I have a wish!
Oh, what's your wish?
Uh, to get a new horse. Woo!
Light 'em again for him. It's his birthday too. Blow it!
Do it again!
No, you gotta get with it.
Oh, do it again!
One more, two more!
Go one more time!
Come on!
There!
Wait, which one are you gonna start with? Socks?
Oh! Yeah, Roy. You do that every year.
Gift certificates to Socks R Us, Dollar General. And underwear's ours.
I see horses. Oh! I want this. Yeah, you can play with it.
The mine.
Yeah. He thinks it's his birthday. Ooh, a tall boot coupon. I need tall boots. One horse show. Oh, I wanted this so much.
You wanna see it?
You know, I actually have that same horse show.
It's like big deal.
You know, look, I have that horse in the background on my YouTube channel.
Oh, maybe that's why it was pulled up on Canva. I just made something in Canva real quick. Let's save this. People are gonna have to wait and see.
I don't know what it is.
What's in this one?
Yeah, I don't really care what I get now that I have a horse shelf.
Oh, okay.
Amazon coming back to you. Oh, dollar bills, y'all.
My grandparents and grandmas and everything give me Always money.
Ooh.
Alright, it says happy birthday from Grandma and Grandpa. We give you—
We love you. We, oh.
I can't read cursive. We love you, Libby. Happy 13th birthday.
You're doing pretty good. What do you think it is?
Tops and underwear.
Just say help 'cause don't spill out all the underwear. Don't cut 'em either.
A hobby horse. I really wanted it. I really wanted a horse. I didn't realize that.
I was like, I don't think she does.
I do for my jumping sets, I do. We need to do this. Is this why you were so into me doing the jumping?
Yeah, I want y'all to do that tonight with Henry. Okay, show them how to do it. We'll go do the jumps later.
Woo!
Show them how it's done, girl.
Okay, let me see that. I have to figure out the course. Jump, jump, jump, jump. No, oxer. Oops, I didn't do the course right. Watch out, Mama.
This is good course practice. You can be Henry.
Henry, get in faster. Do the jump. Ah, the non-equestrian folk here. I put down one of the jumps.
He's fast, he's fast. Look, Beck, how you liking your proof of concept? It's gonna work, it's gonna work.
It's gonna be so much better next.
We planted it too late.
Yeah, I think we did, but this one I don't think is one we planted on this trellis.
I think it made its way over here. Whoops.
I think this is the big mama pumpkin.
I just hit my head on a pumpkin. Is this from our garden?
This is.
Whoa, just now?
Yeah.
Fresh cantaloupe. Don't buy any more watermelon for a couple of weeks.
All right, is it good?
Okay, tell me how it tastes.
How does it taste?
Everything's okay.
Okay.
Yeah, we'll go get one and put in the fridge. It'll taste better warm. That's why it's warm. Oh no. No. It's got a weird taste.
Oh, that's—
Okay, it's not ripe yet.
Oh, really?
Nope, it's not ripe yet. This has got to become white. Birthday blessings! Can you say something nice to Lily?
Lily's good to me.
Lily's good to you.
Lily, um, likes to play horses jumping and she's a good sister.
She's a good sister, she's fun to play with. She's a good younger sister.
And she likes to swim.
Lily's a good little sister. She likes to cook and bake things, and I really like that about her. You got a third love? Baking and cooking. That's your fourth love?
Nah.
Well, what's your third love?
Um, maybe being in the country.
You were my biggest baby. Over 9 pounds. And you were a good sleeper when you were a baby. You now are becoming quite a beautiful inside and out young woman where you are passionate about horses. So you have a, a passion that you already have at such a young age. Not a lot of people have passion this early, and You are a great cook. You can cook a mean cake, and you have meals that you know how to cook totally, and you do a very good job. I'm very appreciative when you help out and do, do that for the family, and I'm very proud of you in all of your horse.
This—
you, you take care of the horse 100%. Like, we don't do anything. I mean, we help you, like, you order the feed and stuff. Yeah, but we help you get the farrier out. We just do some things that maybe, you know, I can't do, right? Because you don't have a phone to call the farrier. But for the most part, you take care of the horse 100%, and that's very responsible. I'm very proud of you, how you've taken the this and, and run with it. So I love you.
I love you too.
Just this morning when we were going— I was following you out there to do chores. You were bare feet like a cowgirl, and then—
or like a hippie—
you were in— I think you were in this outfit right here— in a pretty little dress. You are my cowgirl princess.
I renew my vows.
Equestrian. She doesn't like the cowgirl term, but equestrian.
Princess. Princess. I renew my vows that I made when you first came out and cried. Your very first cry, I said, you can cry to me anytime. I'll listen and do what I can to help. Am I right?
I'm right.
A reminder to me of my promise to you. You want to close it out?
Happy day!
