Nice socks. Thanks. You get what you can get, huh?
Yeah.
Are you cleaning the house for Father's Day?
Yep.
Aww, thanks. Thank you.
Happy Father's Day!
My family is so sweet. Jonah's in there surprising me with cleaning up. I've caught wind that the beautiful one is going to make brunch, my favorite food. Southerner at heart. Biscuits and gravy. Lily offered to do the chores, her and the kids. My one request is that they document that. That gives me some break from the farm and some vlogging, which is much appreciated. And I think it would just be terribly interesting to see the place from the kids' perspective.
Not yet.
Hey, the word on the street is you and Jona have agreed he's gonna clean the house and you're gonna do the chores. Yeah, is that right? You want some help milking?
Sure.
Can you get He-Man over? There are two calves. He-Man, you not going over? You seen what snacks we have at the snack machine?
Thanks, bud.
Proud of you. Welcome. How are your chores going?
Good, but the sea monster's mean.
You need help with that? Okay, you happy with this job? Yeah, the chickens are happy with this job. Thanks for the special Father's Day. Fantastic job! What a great Father's Day. Thank you for this Father's Day project— projects. I've been making notes of little bitty bunches of stuff that need to be done around the farm. Case in point, we had the sheep and a couple of calves mow this down, and I can actually get in there and string trim. I'm curious to see how much easier it is now. Get in, you get the big stuff with that machete that I can't get. Okay, I can get that. It's cutting like butter. Ran out of strength. Like, look at this, so much more manageable after the cow's been on it. Parts of me just wants to go inside and rest on this special day. I'll probably do that this afternoon. The other part of me realizes to have a successful homestead, you got to do a little— at least a little bit every day. Every day, in every way, we're getting better. So This is where they were. It worked so beautifully. We've put them on this job. Guys, it was that thick. Even thicker because they've already started to work on that. Before cows and sheep. After cows and sheep. Hey, thanks for the string. Father's Day timeout from the projects. What's wrong? You need me to change you? Get changed then. Take the fire truck. Wow, you've been cleaning the porch. I'll take it because normally you insist on Mama doing this. The ladies cooking up all kinds of surprises. They're kicking me out. Come on, boys, let's go. We've changed you. Let's get out of here. Where's your other sock? Just take your sock off. Where are we going? He's also string trimming and making it look nice. Whoa, Josiah! He got our septic covered up. We successfully connected the garden kitchen to our septic tank down here, and Josiah just covered it up beautifully before the rain. Let's bow rake it and then throw seeds. Or were you gonna do the drag on it? You could do the drag. How's the pig port doing, guys? You're telling for me? They're just chilling for me, making new garden beds right there. Speaking of pig port, this is compost the pigs made. I don't think it's quite done yet. We just harvested these beds of beets and broccoli. If you've watched this channel before, you know Mother Nature is maddest and we've got to get her covered. Pigs right here, right next to the crop garden, making this compost. It was their deep bedding, guys. We're serving two purposes: their diaper And in the end, it gets us compost.
Looks good, huh?
There are some great joys in homesteading. One of them, the moment after you you've put down fresh compost on your garden beds. Collecting eggs. Moving animals. When you finish covering a bare spot. You see animals doing the work of the farm. Looking at the garden after it's been weeded. Seeing a kid's busy little bare feet. I haven't experienced it yet, but I'm sure it's going to feel great. Moving day into our homestead dream house. Soon, soon, very soon. All right, come on. What? Smells delicious in here. Look at this pretty thing. Barefoot and in the kitchen. Not pregnant. No, I think you had a bad dream last night that you were, huh?
I had a dream that I was pregnant.
Was it a boy or a girl? I don't know.
I was not pregnant. You had a baby?
We don't need that title, do we? 45 and pregnant?
I could do it.
I don't want to. What's this? Is that creamy dreamy grits? Oh my gosh.
Apparently they were quick grits, so I started them a long time ago because I thought they were going to need a lot of time. Oh, and they didn't. They came together pretty quickly.
All right, good looking. What you got cooking?
Bacon, sausage, grits, creamy dreamy grits, eggs, cabbage, biscuits, and gravy. For dessert, it's a surprise.
Oh, but I haven't had—
but you know it's ice cream.
Oh yes, and I see this. Oh wow, man, I'm excited. Good to be a father today.
No, don't tell him, it's a surprise.
No, don't tell me, just guess.
You're all wet, you should change.
It's just a sweat.
Why don't you change your shirt?
Man, I've done— gone to heaven. You know, if I was on death row and I got my last meal, this would be it.
Well, Lily and I were spot on then.
Yeah, good job, guys. This is a nice surprise. Jonah, you got dressed up. Lily got dressed up. Getting a Father's Day bonus. The kids had an idea to go hike the mountain. I'm down. But before we go up the mountain, let's go say Happy Father's Day to my late pop. Andrew, here's your namesake. Grandpa Jonah, you're there. Well, he's Willard P. Rhodes. Look, I never noticed this. They put his nickname in. Oops. Maybe, maybe somebody just did that. Let's go hike the mountain. All of a sudden Henry's into the ergo. You don't want to go this mile?
You don't want to hike this mile up the mountain? Oh, Kenry, it's the crooked tree.
You want to sit on it? We're recreating a photo. What year?
2022.
2 years ago. Austin, show that photo. That was then, this is now. Everybody's growing. Good job. Hey, we're almost to the top of the mountain. Oh my word, peanuts! I love peanuts. So what is this? I don't have any idea what this is.
It's a chocolate ice cream.
It's a peanut butter ice cream with chocolate chips.
And then we have chocolate ice cream with also chocolate chips in it. Peanut butter ice cream. And then I made hot fudge.
Hot fudge. Hey, this is all right.
Thank you.
I can scoop it.
Thanks for the best Father's Day ever.
We came up with this, man.
This is amazing. I'm surprised you got that peanut butter ice cream.
Yeah, it's good.
You don't like peanut butter. Let's see what it's like. If you don't know, peanut butter and chocolate, chocolate are my kryptonite.
Well, you always like peanut butter and chocolate. You get peanut butter ice cream, but then you guys win.
I am the luckiest best father on the planet right now. That's what I feel like. Oh, yep. Thanks. Handful of blessings. Happy Father's Day to all you fathers out there. Hope you had a great one. Happy day.
