Get in, get in. Hey, Mr. Brown, are you in the bathroom?
Yeah.
Are you dressed?
No. Look on the column.
I did find it. Come on, let's go.
In a second.
Can I get going and you catch up to me? No. I was going to say I could find his shoes, but oh my gosh, that was easy. Well, are they dry? Yes. I want Mr. Brown to go, so I'll wait. So maybe we can get the footage uploaded. Okay, I think he's done. You done? Now listen, if I'm working this hard to get you ready, you're gonna stay with me, right?
Okay.
Right?
Okay.
You're not gonna run off and play? Huh?
We have to get the scrap bucket to the pigs.
Whoa, you're that far? You already need the scrap bucket?
Mm-hmm.
Okay, so you think these pants are too short?
Yeah.
How about that? Is that better?
Yeah.
Okay, good. Did Grandma dress you while I was gone?
No.
You dressed yourself like a big boy?
Yep.
Good.
Wait, actually I didn't probably dress. I think I didn't.
You just didn't even dress, huh?
I don't— I think I just did not. Hit me.
What is this?
That's a battle axe.
Okay. Oh, okay.
That's all I made.
All righty. I'm glad you're in the loop. Hey, shut the door! You raising a barn? You can actually say yes. Yes. Wait, did you not already eat your apple and cheese I made you? You're already getting another apple. And what's this method? Is this the walk across Mama's floor without your shoes off method? Lily, get up, honey. You got your snack on the counter. You all right? Need anything? What?
Why don't you bring me my phone and a cotton swab? I did find the garlic all kind of good.
Here's your cotton.
I'm starting to feel better.
I think our trip might have got the best of her. She looks like she's picked up a cold or something. Uh, her phone. What's the first thing you check on the phone?
I'm gonna look at the weather.
Uh, all right, see you later. These days you can't keep that woman down very long. She'll be right up. Good morning, guys. You're done? Move the luchadors? Yep. Really?
Yeah.
You came this way with him?
Uh-huh.
Or did you go towards the creek with him?
Came this way.
Oh, okay. You don't need no coat? No, come here. You're the cold plunge boy.
I'm cool.
Okay, I'm gonna get you a coat. Hang on, get in. Do you know where your coats are? Oh my word, I'm getting so lucky today.
Whoa, hey, hey, all over it.
There's hay all over it. My best idea. How'd you get hay all over it, bro? Oh, it's not really working. Can you just wear it with hay in it?
No.
A little bit of hay. Okay, there you go. Is that better?
Kind of better.
Okay, come on. You're gonna stay with me, right?
Okay.
Do I really have to?
What'd I get you dressed for? Let's go. Paper dolls again, Joyful?
Yeah.
Okay, Lily, Joyful's waiting on you to play dolls, honey. Can the chickens get out? That net must have flopped over on their door, honey. We got us some soil for our raised beds and had to move our chicken coop temporarily. And this is blocking. This is all we got to do, honey. Let's get this. See that? There. Now they can get out. Good morning, Donald. You're looking beautiful. Hey, get in! Did he already go inside?
I don't know.
Penguin's out and about. Is she eating, Lily? I, um, she's kind of struggling.
She's scared of the other chickens and they're at them.
Up, sit back up. Will she eat? Yep. Oh, that's nice of you, Lily. I don't think Penguin's doing so well. Can't keep up with the other chickens, maybe. Yeah, where is Gideon? Gideon went with them apparently. Come on, good. Works so much better as a team. I'm here to receive them, give them some alfalfa. Okay, Gideon, you came down? You gonna come milk with me? I think he got up because he wants to go play with his friends. You boys want to come milk with me and play in the hay? It's at least good to have them close. Who's strong enough to carry this? Whoa, good job, good job, cowboys! Cowboys with swords. Woo boys! Hey, let me see these cowboys with swords. Wooden swords, homemade swords. This is a big difference from yesterday, me by myself, probably an hour later than this. I got her cleaned off, the kids are nowhere to be found. Guys, come on! Hey, Jonah, Josiah, come on! Maybe somebody helps me with her and then somebody helps me with Phyllis. Look at these guys. I was milking right there, Jonah said let me take over. These three are going at it. Hey, what's motivated you to get up so early this morning, start the chores?
The Millennium Falcon.
I ordered them a Millennium Falcon Lego because I knew they wanted it as a bonus for taking care of the farm when I was gone. What do you want me to do, boss?
Uh, sit down and relax. Giving you a break.
That's hard for me. I don't think I can sit down and relax.
I can.
Anything else?
Uh, you could go put that thing together, the drag.
All right, let's face it, I can't sit still. We've already cut it. We got us a drag. As soon as it dries out, we can pull this behind the mower or the Sally side by side and spread the manure in the pasture, spreading the nutrients out. I know y'all be asking, what is it? What is it? I haven't field tested it yet, but it's the FieldTuff, uh, drag harrow. I think it's ready to go. So that part you hook onto the machine. Okay, I'm glad I'm trying this without pressure. It's all kind of weird. Aha! Oh, there we go! I got hooks! Look at this! There it is! Hook it into those loops. So there's one, there's another. My bet is that you— so that you can do one, or so you can transport it. It's kind of heavy. Now how to attach— oh, that's number 2. This must be number 1. Yeah, number 1. Jenna, you done? So this one is the one that needs to attach to the bar. You have hooks here for the bar, and then you have hooks here for the extension. Did you milk her for all she's worth? Still more? Pretty much milked her all the way out.
I don't think we need to have the second hook backed up.
We might not need to, but it's probably probably more thorough if we do. Look at that, 2 gallons. Hey, get in. That's your third piece of fruit, my man. And where's all your clothes? Hey, no more eating fruit, all right?
What the heck?
It's crazy hot now. Did you load the hay and everything?
Yeah, I need you to come.
Okay.
I'm feeling better.
Okay, good. I believe it when I see you jump out of that bed.
I don't feel as bad as I did this morning.
So come on, we got a polar plunge. You polar plunge, that'll wake you up.
Yeah.
Okay.
Um, I wanted to say something to you, but I don't remember what it is.
Well, you were going to say that I was so handsome and that hardworking Funny. That's what you were gonna say.
All those things, babe.
That's right. It was so nice of her to say all that stuff, wasn't it? That dad joke. Is that a dad joke?
Uh, what are you doing here? Jonah!
All right, Frosty, thank you. Got one and a half. I mean Phyllis. Hey, Josiah, Jonah, will you come, uh, let the cows out please? Really guys? I've clipped your wings, the fence is up. That guy needs to be bacon food before he becomes somebody else's food, like raccoon, possum. He's got to stay in to be safe. With chickens, it's basically a race. See who can eat him first. I want to eat him first. He's not going to stay in. I might eat him by transforming him into bacon or sausage. It's a paper explosion. You can be ready in 20-ish minutes. Plunge. I gotta go throw hay. Hey boys, boys, why did that wheel just fall off? That's better. Now what happened here? There's a washer and a wire.
That's what I had to do.
All right. Yeah, here we go. We can go right through here, guys. He wants to do the chores, the moving of the animals. Now they got to move today so you guys can play Legos, right? All right, y'all can do that. Y'all can stay and do that. Let's get them set up here then. So Rebecca, you were— didn't get a good sleep. You had cold-like symptoms. Brianna, you did not get good sleep. So this plunge, are we just pushing through the pain? Or is this going to actually help us?
We're hopeful. I'm hoping it helps me.
I think it's going to make my day 100 times better because I feel so tired I could cry.
I really don't want to do it. I'm like, I really don't want to. I'm like, let's just stay in the bed all day.
That's always the reaction. Why?
Why do I do this again?
And then you get out after it's over and you remember. Do you feel better now?
You're a charging baby.
You hopeful for the day?
I feel very cold.
What about you, Brianna?
I feel clear-headed, which feels nice because I felt like— I mean, like a middle-aged woman that stayed up till 3 AM feels. Not very good.
We all know how that feels. It stinks.
I mean, the baby was awful happy, but not much.
Hey, did you have a party with Mama last night?
No.
No? Was it a pity party?
No.
Or a fun party? No, he says. Get the sheep moved, buddy, and the cows. Yep. Well, guess what?
What?
Your Millennium Falcon. I looked it up. It's on schedule for delivery today.
What time?
About 8 PM, but FedEx or UPS usually comes early afternoon. Color way up there. All right, editing, uh, it's going to have to wait. Uh, the excavator guy's here. I should have come out and plugged it in this morning so I'd have a 100% chance, especially cuz I knew he was coming.
Woohoo!
We're gonna try to move this stump, the walnut stump that he pulled out of the ground. We're gonna try first with my tractor, else he's gonna have to use this little excavator to roll it all the way from down there to way up there to our burn pile. I just wonder if we should get the forks. He's going to try to lift it up with his rig. I just couldn't get enough. We're going to grab maybe another piece of that walnut to go across.
All right, is that too low?
You want me to push it up more? Goodness, I think that'll work. Now can we lift it? All right, so I went to— could use the adjustable wrench. I went to go, but because we're on an incline and so heavy out in front on the bucket It wants you to tip. My heart is beating so fast right now. About tipped it, you know, here you gotta drop the bucket real quick and that stops that, of course. But there ain't no moving with it. Lighten our load and go ahead and saw some of it up right now. The problem is this thing. Let's check our, uh, fuel. That could be tightened up a lot. Let's just make sure it's going to start. It's an old chainsaw. Oh, it'd help if I turn it off stop position. Helps a lot. Okay, that's crazy. I'm not getting anywhere, but I'm getting somewhere. I don't know if this is black walnut or we're terribly dull, but this is cutting like, I don't know, frozen butter. Butter knife on frozen butter. I found my sharpener.
Let's see if it works. Food lanes and crows and screams. Now I'm running a den and I'm scrambling to make ends meet. So work, sleep, repeat.
Yeah, work, sleep, work, sleep, that's all I ever do anymore.
Sleep, work, sleep, work, sleep, somewhere up the line.
3 tanks of gas later, we finally got it. There, there goes I wonder where the boys have been. Regular Legos. I figured maybe their Millennium Falcon came. What, no Millennium Falcon?
Not yet.
Okay, you guys want to get the calves up and I'll get the hay? You have hay over there, my man. Why are you coming to bother me?
Come on.
Is this sheep fence off?
Yes.
Okay, there you go. Now they're distracted. Y'all got that fence open? Okay, they're getting the calves in. I'll tell you what, it's good to be back together with everybody, everybody on chores. It's a lot funner and easier with friends. Good job, guys. Been editing. UPS is here. Oh, they're parking across the street though. I don't know. Uh-oh, uh-oh, that might be it. I think that's it. Oh, oh, and Mama's Valentine's Day present. I ordered this before Valentine's Day. It's kind of one of those special orders. Took longer than I thought, but here it is. I think it's it.
Can they keep it?
Oh, this is gonna be terrible if it's not.
It's a powder box!
Oh no.
Is it?
I don't think so. Open it. Is it a mineral? Just minerals? I think so.
Oh. Oh yeah?
Oh, I think it's minerals, Dad.
No, it's it! No! They wanted to trick you.
I got them a bonus for working while I was gone.
I like it.
Is that worth it?
Yeah.
Wait, will you wrap that for me?
Yeah.
Okay.
Where's the wrapping paper?
I don't know. How far are we so far?
Uh, this is my third bag.
Huge. Where's your camera? I thought you were documenting this.
Oh shoot, I forgot. For your show.
Who's got Mom's present?
Me!
I did manage to wrap it in a happy birthday. This may or may not work. So it's kind of a surprise.
Did you tell the people that you messaged me today and said, where's wrapping paper? And I was like, I have no idea.
I texted her and you still didn't catch on.
No, I was just thinking that one of the kids had wanted wrapping paper.
You think it is for your Valentine's Day?
Wait, did you even open it yet?
Do you know what it is?
Well, it's not a dress. I'm wondering if it's, um—
Don't look too hard.
Okay, I won't look.
Yes. Jewelry. Not a dress.
Hey, hey, I know who this is.
Do you know who this is? Yes. What is it?
The kids don't even know.
Stop.
It's Maya. Maya Brenner.
What's that?
It's something I've wanted for a very, very long time.
Look at that package.
Can I have her box?
Look at this.
Can I have the box? They're so sad.
This is how your husband's supposed to do. Woo!
I love it.
Because you were shopping for it. I didn't know if you were casual or you were serious.
No, I'm very serious. This is the necklace I've been wanting for a very, very, very long time. Yeah, but I always just go and I always put it in the cart and I never say yes.
Why not? Because it's expensive.
I have a hard time buying things for myself.
So it's a necklace with all the kids' names on it.
They're initial—
all the initials. Do you like it?
I do.
You're not giving me a hug and a kiss?
I'm trying to get it off. Oh, Gideon's gonna come in here.
Oh, you're a good one.
Really not giving me the paw. Cut it off.
Cut it off forever.
Wait, you really want to do that?
Oh, now you give me a kiss.
And a big paw.
And a cough.
Mom, are you gonna put it on and leave it on forever?
Yeah. Hopefully.
Pat. Oh yeah.
Let's see this necklace.
