Mr Brown's BIRTHDAY Special (9) AKA, Gideon

The video documents Gideon's ninth birthday celebration at home, captured in a casual family vlog style. The day begins with a health check as the family worries about a possible fever, then moves into chores where Gideon helps collect eggs, feed pets, and attempts to learn how to drive a lawn mower under his sister Lily's guidance. The family opens a series of presents, ranging from practical items like socks and underwear to toys such as a soccer jersey, monster truck, and a Bruder brand vehicle, prompting excited reactions. A gluten‑free, grain‑free pizza and birthday cake are prepared and enjoyed, with the family singing "Happy Birthday" and sharing wishes. Throughout, parents and siblings share anecdotes about Gideon's past (e.g., his fear of lions, his nickname "dewy"), discuss the meaning of his name, and consider future activities like drum lessons. The tone remains affectionate, playful, and occasionally concerned about health, highlighting family bonds, birthday traditions, and Gideon's growing independence.

First breakfast for the birthday boy! Happy birthday! Yogurt and bananas. Let me see. 99.1. 98.4. How's the sickie doing? Normal temperature, maybe in here. 99.7. You feel better? Homeboy had 103-degree temperature last night. You think you're gonna be able to eat today? You think we should continue on with Gideon's birthday? Barring no one else gets sick.
My goal today is to learn how to drive the mower.
Okay, well, I didn't know that was your goal, but okay. Let you rest. Okay, you better. Oh, that's a lot of socks and underwear. What? Here's a bunch of underwear. You'll have it until you're 22 years old.
That's socks and that's shirts and shorts.
Yeah. Any eggs?
No.
Any chickens caught in the rack? There's no board there though. It's been pretty gruesome. Chickens have been perching up above, they've been perching right here, and then they get their foot caught in there and they hang down and die. Savage beast chickens. Can you move it? This one's kind of heavy. Stuck. Forward and then get some speed. There you go. What's your official job?
Um, collecting the eggs and feeding the cats and dogs.
And you're definitely my right-hand man, aren't you?
I think I pulled 4 eggs at once.
Nice, that's mad skill, buddy. Coming, we're gonna do the toys at lunch. Hopefully everybody avoids that weird temp. Yeah, that's weird that nobody else has gotten it. All right, okay, well listen, I'm gonna put the presents back if we don't go do chores. Rebecca, you couldn't find both shoes, so you just Put on one and it's worth it. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Good job. You gonna milk today?
Yeah.
Hey, maybe this is— 9, your magic year. Lily started when she was 8. Is 9 gonna be it for you?
Yeah.
When'd you start, Jonah? 8. You getting what Josiah got? Maybe they go home and rest after that. No, no, no. You live up to your shirt. The most feral so far of all our children. You gonna be all right? Shoot. Okay, well, at least it ain't too bad, but it sure does put a damper on the party. Like, he didn't throw up or anything. He had it for, what, 12 hours? It's got to go through our family by Wednesday. Yeah, we might postpone your meal to another day. Okay, then we might do your presents earlier. Hey, Jonah's getting really tired.
Okay. Yeah, I don't—
I don't feel my back. Yeah, we might need to postpone the dinner meal, especially if it gets Jonah. And we might want to up the presents and give them to them after chores for Henry's sake. All right, get in. Go at it.
Okay, look at this spike.
Spike needs to be down.
Okay, like this.
So hold it like this. Yeah, and lay it down. Good, you got it. Yeah, you're feeling extra ambitious today. Why?
Um, it's my birthday.
You want to go home? You're not getting sick, are you? Are you tired? Don't get sick. You want— you want to see Gideon's presents? Oh boy, I hope you're not getting sick.
Go! Whoa, you're so fast! Oh, you won the race!
You ready?
Yeah.
Are you ready?
Yeah.
I've never seen a kid so excited about socks and underwear.
Come on. Hurry.
Dude, I forgot to do this. Old time's sake, we were gonna ergo. Get in. He held on to this. For a long time. I rode him regularly until he was like 6 years old.
A little weird for me.
You know, Henry hadn't liked this. How's that, Gideon?
Good. It's much more better than walking around everywhere.
I could do this for a little bit. I don't know about doing chores. I might could walk from here to the holler house. Let's go inside and see what Mama says. One last ride. Hey, if we let him open it, is he gonna leave us alone? I like how he puts open it in one word.
Open it!
The beautiful one making Dutch babies. And sausage from the lamb. We're gonna have to go back in the bedroom. Can't be happy. Did you want to have a tent? No, I didn't. I've never seen him eat so fast.
He goes done.
But don't open the other ones, those are for Gideon. Open it. How do you end up with a present on the birthday? It'd be a riot. This is the fun stage. They start getting it at this stage.
Yeah, I'm not sure he'll understand completely like other people.
Oh boy, he might get upset about that. Whoa, whoa, he's not going for it, guys.
Whoa, it's tractors!
Whoa, I think he's confused. Oh, well, he didn't go for your little trick, giving him old tractors. Uh-oh, is this a sham again?
A soccer shirt.
Alright.
Soccer jersey.
That's what you can wear on Thursday nights, okay?
Now open this one.
Oh yeah, that looks sharp.
Oh, a monster truck. Tonka monster truck.
Whoa, look at this.
Is this a Bruder? Bruder brand?
Now you know that's a new toy, don't you?
Now Henry, don't take it out into the dirt. Or I will be mad.
I like it, it is metal. That's a nice one.
It's a plane. Okay, you have to close your eyes. Whoa. Whoa. It's a big one.
Goodness, you'll be busy for a while. Nice trick. Is that how you get the yolks out? Yeah. You making Henry's birthday cake? Gideon's birthday cake?
Yeah.
Movie day since everybody's feeling a little bit down.
Ah!
Did they go pop and jam instead of it? That just wouldn't be fun. It's a pizza explosion. Gluten-free, grain-free pizza. You pay the price though. Look at this. Not easy to make, is it? They found another way to get cheese on pizza.
I know they did.
Put it in the crust.
The last batch was much better. This one's a little bit runny, but that's all right.
Yeah, I got— maybe it's a lull right now. I can take, uh, Gideon on his mower ride. Yes, that's Lily. She's probably been driving 3 years. Where are you at, Mr. Brown? Partly why he hasn't driven yet while all the other kids started at 8. He's a little distracted. You've rode on my lap plenty. Do you need to do some of that again before you Drive solo?
Yeah.
If you get scared and don't know what to do and you want to stop— oh, get your earmuffs— all you do is take your hands off the controls.
What I'm trying to show you is that when I turn, that when I take off the brake like this, when that happens, if you're not on the seat like, like that time, it will turn off. You have to do it all over.
Lily giving a lesson. Why do you want to learn how to drive the mower?
So I can drive it.
You got one more mower in the house, Becky. Your chances are increasing of never ever having to mow again. Man, I am happy we all made it to supper, although I'm feeling a little weird. A little what? I've been feeling a little weird all day, but we all made it. We didn't know if we were gonna have to delay this birthday dinner. Are you starting? Good. And how is it?
Good.
What's it like to be eating that pizza? Oh, I like that review.
The crust is pretty soft.
It's so good. I think even a gluten-free, grain-free, or Somebody eats gluten. Even— this has no grain in it even.
Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you.
That's a song, real big.
Do it in one, you get a wish. Wait, don't do it in one. Oh, bummer. What would you have wished for?
A go-kart.
Oh, you missed it by one candle.
That's a shame.
I need a rating for this cake. Good. Gluten-free. Danielle Walker classic. We have it every birthday.
10 out of 10.
8.
8, huh?
You're a strict judge, huh?
Me, me, me!
It's time for birthday blessings. I just noticed your decorations. Had to be you, Lily. Thank you.
Gigan's a good little brother. He likes trucks. He's fun to play with. Henry, come here.
He's nice. He's fun to play with. Um, and he's a good little brother. Gideon's a good little brother. He likes to play tractors and he's just a good little brother to have around. Hey, he's gonna be born here in about 2 hours. 9 years ago.
About 7 o'clock, which it is now, is when it got really real. You were a very funny 2-year-old on the Great American Farm Tour. These are 2 things that I've remembered. Recently about you is that you, when you were scared, you would say dewy. You couldn't say scary, so you would say dewy dewy. And so now every time, like, if it's scary, I'll be like dewy dewy, and people will look at me like, what's she saying? And then the other thing is, is that you were convinced that there were lions —Yeah. —In the woods. Yes. And you would say, "Are there lions?" And we'd have to say, "No, we don't have any lions here." Always talking about the lions. Not here in America, we don't. In Africa. And I love you, and I hope that you had a good birthday today. Okay, say Gideon. Fish. Can you say Gideon play?
Gideon, of all our children, you are most feral. But wild is a blessing and a curse, so we're just gonna have to learn how to curb that into a blessing. Little did Mom and I know when we named you Gideon that it actually meant warrior. And so now here you are, it also means living up to it. Also means what? I think it means bone crusher. Bone Crusher. Well, that's what we wanted. Nobody's gonna steal your lunch money, okay? So you could use it for good. So maybe you want to learn how to play drums. Maybe you could be like the animal from the Muppets, Travis Parker. Put that wild energy to something.
Well, we have to get him a set of drums.
As freeing as that, you would play drums?
Yeah. I'm playing drums, origami drums.
How can we test it to see if he would actually do that? You need to get lessons. Okay.
You know what you could do? They have them on the phone. You could do it on the phone. They have drums on phones. Okay.
I think there's a drum teacher that comes to the house.
Yeah. All right, we'll put it to good use, buddy. We all love you.
