My NEWEST idea ~ Will it actually work?

A family works through farm chores: treating a sick lamb with vitamin B, making butter from five gallons of milk, and building a DIY mineral sled for cows from plastic trays. Kids help feed animals while they figure out the sled's angle and design.

You go get in. Here's your banana. Let me open it for you. Let me open it.
Okay, hold on.
Today was a rough day with the sheep. Hopefully it's a little bit better today. Gonna give him a vitamin B complex if he's still there. You have your drink? Okay, let's go. This part So hard. They've been without any care overnight. I haven't checked on them. And Smalls is eating. Hey, can you turn on the light in here? He's over there eating some minerals now. I'm going to— this is giving vitamin B. V. P. P as in boy. Man, that's a good feeling when you wake up and your sickly lamb is doing good. Standing. Our efforts are working.
He's still alive.
We've had to do this so much. Jonas even had to get the hang of it. Here, don't chase him into the mineral. Hey, no, do it straight on. You're doing it sideways into their teeth. Yeah, there you go. Point this straight down in there.
Okay, okay.
Do it so crying doesn't— further in. Okay, this is proper.
Ready?
Mhm. That's good.
Is that—
I did further in, didn't I?
Mhm.
Okay, did you change their head? Well, Jenna's still getting the hang out of Aiden's tricky. Let's see. What's the matter? You're done with the banana? Okay, now let's see if they've eaten any of their minerals. They've touched buffer, GRP, MOP, S-Mix, M-Mix, TS, maybe a little C-Mix. Oh, they've really stirred up the selenium and whatever this is, the A-Mix. Look what they like best of all. The kelp. Oh, they were eating that until the banana fell in. Hey, get you some kelp. Vital minerals. That's how the sheep are doing. Let's check on the sea monsters.
You didn't even tell me to do them, and I did them.
Thank you for doing that, buddy. You want one? Will you grab one for Gideon? Yes. There is not one dead. Oh, there is one dead under the heat lamp.
Oh, that was the one that you threw— that put over there.
It got wet. Yeah, wasn't moving. Will you get in there and get it, please? Did you feed your pigs this morning?
No, we already fed the chickens and pigs. You want to go add that to them?
You can. Gideon, do you want to get them some grass right here? They'll love this. The clover, it's nice and easy for them to break up. Grab some of that. You're so nice. They might eat some of that plantain if you, if you rip it up for them. Give them some greens. That's kind of you.
All right, let's go.
Yeah, even though the sheep are down and taking more attention The farm still has to go on. We gotta harvest this milk. We've got 5 gallons of milk. You know what that means? Time for butter. First, cream separation. And guests. You got whipping cream right there.
Yeah, so that's what— it's the stage before it.
So it all got more solid, and then all of a sudden one part of it got super solid and the other part got liquid. That's your butter and your buttermilk. She got the buttermilk. She got the buttermilk off. Put some water in there, hit it again. You're just gonna do that until the—
until it runs clear.
Until it runs clear. That's rinsing the butter of all the buttermilk, and that makes it last longer on the shelf. Inevitable.
Yeah, I mean, you could put it in it.
Yeah, it just doesn't go as—
it just rancids quick.
There it is, Beauty. And that's just half of it.
Yeah, I'm gonna make the other half right now.
Wait, seriously? Are you giving them a scoop of butter? Yeah, it's butter. Just for health?
It's butter oil. High vitamin butter oil. Come on, just taste it.
Alright, big brother.
I wanna put some salt on mine.
Lily will eat it.
I'll put salt on mine.
Open it up and put it in there.
Ooh, you should put some molasses on it.
Ooh!
That's the old-timey dessert. That's the poor man's— that's the poor farmer's dessert. Next time we'll do better molasses.
Now some plain butter. The salt kind of ruined it.
It's good for your teeth.
Thank you, Violet. Can everybody say thank you, Violet?
You want some?
Sure.
That's all Violet gave us.
Is it good? That's all?
So good. Wow, what an amazing view. We are on our way to town. Remember yesterday I was supposed to start working on that cow mineral sled? Well, the sheep got in the way of that, but when I was at the farm stores— look, peacock, peacock!
Here's the peacock road. I call it peacock road. It's one right there and one right there.
You call this peacock road?
One there and one right there.
There's like 5 total that live around here. It's so cool.
All right, well— Holler if you see one that is spreading, spreading those beautiful feathers. It was a good thing I went to the Tractor Supplies yesterday because I saw a feeder that I think we could be using in our cow mineral sled as opposed to just straight up on the wood because I'm afraid the minerals are going to go into the, you know, underneath the slats and get to the other minerals, and I'm afraid that to clean it out, what do you do? So I think there's some reason to try to use plastic, a plastic tray type thing in there. So we're gonna go get a couple and build our mineral sled around it. Here we are again, Tractor Supply. Rebecca, I'm over here. What do you think? So my idea, I was thinking though it's gonna be flat. I forgot that it was gonna be slanted. So we would build it so that this set on.
Gideon, could you stop that?
We'd build it so that set on there.
Well, I was thinking we could do it like this where this would be in the front and they would reach their heads in like that, but I don't know if that would work. But we could also do it like this.
That's not a bad idea.
We could also make them make the thing and then there could be a board in the back to hold it in.
It could sit on the— yeah, why wouldn't it sit on—
I think the front is good because maybe it's so far in to go in.
I don't know. Yeah, I think we could do it. So we can make it work. Um, but also, Rebecca, if it's gonna be slanted, look, it's only gonna be slanted like that much.
Oh, and that might make it easier for them to get in.
Like, we could just put it on a slant and just screw it in.
There's screw holes. Yeah, we could just put it on a slant. Yeah, I don't think why it would be a big deal.
And then we just do 8 of those on either side. This is gonna be totally manageable.
These are smaller and we can write, we can write what the mineral is on the bottom of it and just take these out and bring them into, into the thing instead of having to bring them out.
Oh yeah, we just pull this off.
Well, unless we screw it in.
Oh yeah, so we should think about a real good way to mark these because the ones on the lamb are already coming off.
Well, we're gonna do that.
We gotta figure that out. The ones on the lambs are already coming off, but we did take a picture. We have a map. Yeah, okay, so maybe you guys have an idea on how to write on plastic. This is for the minerals.
We'll write it on the wood.
Oh my, oh my. You guys want to go see the chickens? The chicks? Yeah, they have chicks.
Can I buy one?
No. All right, we have hundreds. Well, not hundreds, but we have 75 chicks and 40-ish adults. Dude, we have over 100 chickens. You want more?
Yeah, we have 1,000.
That was an easy no. Sometimes it's hard to say no, but not that time. That was an easy one. Lily, come get down. They don't want you climbing all over their feed. Back home. What, is he all right? Yeah, he got up. Okay, you said he wasn't doing well. Well, he was like, uh, I think his poop's getting more solid. It was diarrhea. Was that solid or is it diarrhea?
It's more bally. Look at, look at how much they've eaten.
They've almost eaten all that kelp. Look, you scared me.
Well, I—
he scared me when I came in, this one, Vigor, jumped up right away.
Yeah, it's time for their drench. We'll do one more shot of B complex today. That's— that'll be 3 in a day, every 6 hours. We'll do that. We'll do this one more time— 2 more times every 3 hours. Just so you guys know, tomorrow we'll start working on that mineral. How about a mineral shawl? How about everything must be shawled around here? So I'm actually gonna try to make a mobile shawl, and I think I can do it tomorrow in one day. And I think we're on to something with those plastic trays. Like, we don't have to have a plywood bottom. It's gonna be super light.
