What's that for, Lily?
The goose so it can drink. It's stretching its neck. The goose likes to stretch its— instead Water going. So that water is just some stretchy snacks.
What is this?
Oh, the watermelon we got out of the garden.
I'm kind of curious to see if it's ready.
It's ready. Well, we had to pick if these bugs were eating.
Well, look, let's, uh, let's rinse that off.
Okay.
And put it in a cooler of ice.
Okay.
To get it real nice and cold for tonight.
Okay.
We can have a watermelon. It's your birthday as well.
Yeah, cake and watermelon.
Today is the day we're going to celebrate your birthday. How old you gonna be? 10. Big 10. My only girl is growing up. I'm so blessed to have at least one girl. She's got a special place in my heart, don't you, Lily? She— we're having Mighty Man Camp this weekend and Princess Palace, so we're going to celebrate her birthday early as a family. Lily, I'm afraid These chickens aren't getting enough. This is too powdery on this mulch, so let's get them a feeder. We're feeding everybody Chick Starter right now just so we can buy it in bulk, and, uh, I think it's falling through. It's too powdery and they're having too hard of a time. How many eggs you got?
3.
Nice. You got your rabbit stuff? Okay, Beefcake. We got you a new companion. We got a replacement for Cheesecake. Her name is Pound Cake. Pound Cake looks like she had a good night. She's found her water. She's got more than she can eat. It's a good welcome.
Hi, Phoebe.
This is a new breeder. We will breed her. We got another female and hopefully get in the pork business. What's your favorite thing about tending these rabbits?
Uh, trying to pet them.
Ah, have you been able to pet them?
Yeah, Penny's the— I mean, Patty is the one who was, um, not very tame.
Is this the male?
Yeah, this is one of the— no, this is a female.
We gotta find out. It might be time to breed them, honey.
And I haven't told her what I'm gonna do.
You haven't told her? You haven't told her you're gonna harvest her babies, huh?
Well, I'm gonna harvest some of her babies. I like Penny the most.
Which one's Penny? She's getting a little fat roll under her. She's fat, huh?
She eats so much.
You have your—
are you able to pet her?
Oh wow.
Good job!
She likes me now and I can feed her grass. I'm gonna get some.
She's going to get him grass.
Yep, girl, he won't get it.
Probably.
I always split this in 3.
This is the buck?
Yep. Okay, he's handsome.
He is handsome. Boy, he's jittery too, isn't he?
He's not as tame as Penny, but he's the second tamest.
I'm watching. Nice. And this one is the least tame, and it's also the thinnest.
Yes. I don't know what's the matter with her. I'm pretty sure she's gonna be a really good mama. Yeah, so is Penny.
Oh, where's the bucket for that?
I know, I'm gonna carry it.
Are you gonna just carry it out there?
Yeah.
Okay, one more job of Lily's. So you got 3 jobs, huh? Check on the sheep, do the rabbits, and do the chickens. He's grown big.
I know, he's so big. I remember when he was a tiny little baby. Yeah, yeah, he's so cute. See, the little thing here is starting to turn white.
You doing all right? Mm-hmm. You guys like your new shade? We've put a new shade cloth on there, one that goes over the whole entire thing. It's darker. I think they like it better. It's half our breeding program, even though it's just one. You're very important, Nacho. This is my princess cowgirl. She's always in a pretty dress, likes to be prissy sometimes like that, but ain't afraid of picking up some worms or, or butchering, anything for that matter.
Maple's butt is red.
Oh wow, interesting. Do we have any alfalfa in here? We could feed them and check on— let's check on that in a little bit, okay? When we have the alfalfa out here for the cows. Thought I heard Rebecca. She brings me extra comfort these days, guys, being in this pain. There's just something about a companion. And I see that. Are you cold?
No, I'm just beginning.
There's just something about having her, her presence around that makes this pain more bearable. It is you!
He's out here. When you started up, buddy, he went—
look at Mama!
Mama making homemade marshmallows.
Yeah!
Is that for your birthday?
No, it's for my camping princess palace.
So how do you make homemade marshmallows?
It's in this book.
Celebration.
Yes. By Danielle Walker. It's also on her website. I think it's against all fairness.
And this is gelatin?
It's gelatin, water, honey.
That's it.
Vanilla.
4 ingredients.
Hey, Mama. Christmas night, can we have— can you— can we have homemade roasted marshmallows and have a fire? Yeah, we can try that.
Well, we're gonna test this out. We are!
We'll have that and some hot chocolate.
We're gonna test this out to see if we can roast these.
And caramel.
Over fire.
Yeah.
I've heard that if you let them sit for a couple of days in a paper bag, that like dries them out enough that you can roast them.
It's here. It's here. Didn't want to believe it till I saw it. We got a big shipment. Polyface Micro. Oh, 4,200 books! Joel Salatin's new book on homesteading. Yes, the 60-year market farmer is putting out a homestead book. All right, let's open this up and see what's in it. But first, 1, 2, 3, 4 big pallets and 1 little pallet. So you're gonna hold it from Daryl, birthday girl. Arin's getting his exercise. There it is. I was just talking to Rebecca. This is crazy because look at this. Okay, Joel Salton wrote a homestead book, but Justin Rhodes wrote the foreword. How did we come to this? How did I go from being a major fan to writing the foreword? I even got a mention in this book. I was able to be one of the proof— I helped him edit too, actually. Actually, which was fun. We tried to keep it to the homestead language. This is really pretty. Color pictures right in the middle. I love it. And of course it's got all the fun and learning that is a Joel Salatin book. Listen, we're, um, we're getting ready. We're going to ship this as soon as we can. We got to get some packaging here. We got to test it out. But until then, I'm giving you 3 chapters. And not only am I going to give you the first 3 chapters of this book immediately, PDF, I'm gonna give you 3 parts of the masterclass we're putting together surrounding this book with Joel. So totally free, 3 master— 3 classes from the masterclass, 3 chapters, totally free. It's, it's easy to remember, polyfacemicro.com, and I'll leave the link for it down in the description. All you gotta do is join our email list and we'll get that to you. Hey, our goal is to unload these, these 4,200, uh, by the end of the month because we got a premiere in here. We're gonna have, uh, lots of bonuses, lots of goodies. And that— let's see, I'm giving you the free stuff now. I'm thinking our goal would be shipping, selling and shipping those next week. So stay tuned. Meanwhile, Mom and Lily making a cake. What kind of cake is that?
Chocolate with red icing.
Nice.
And see, look, I picked these flowers fresh from the garden.
Ooh, I love it.
And then I washed them and then we put, um, something clear on them so nothing would get in the cake.
I like it.
Good choice.
Good choice. What did you choose for your meal?
Chicken Parmesan broccoli and noodles.
I like it.
I had that when I turned 9. Ooh.
What are you making, my love?
Parmesan chicken with fettuccine Alfredo and And you have a happy helper. I do have a very happy helper. She's very happy.
Got a happy helper out there, Jonah, swinging Henry. I'm getting mucho work done on this micro polyface thing. Good news, look at our freezer. It's reading 0, not 45. This broke. It had all our turkeys in it. We distributed it all, and the problem was the freezer, um, it was cracked open too long and the melting water froze in the air intake or something like that, and it wouldn't work. So basically, instead of happening again, just get everything out, let it thaw out, unplug it, and plug it back in. It'll go again. Also, I want to tell you, there's a very special feeling about this right here. There's Cheesecake. She's all up in here. Fresh pork, frozen, home safe. It's over. Half a freezer full. That gives me a very special peace in my heart. It's like I can breathe easier. Pork is back on the menu. Now we're gonna wrap Lily's presents, or they are. What'd you get her, Gideon?
He doesn't know. I didn't tell him.
Oh, that's smart.
Because if I told him, then he would— no, you have to keep the secret.
I kept it a secret. Josiah told me, so I kept it a secret. Oh, what is it? What did I tell you?
Be quiet because Lily could be coming. What is it? So y'all got to be real quiet. Look at this. Mommy is done. So good. Lily, I'm glad you were born. I appreciate it very much. Are you glad she's born?
Yeah.
Okay, Grandma's back there smiling. She's glad you were born because you're such a nice person. She's so helpful and so fun to be around and makes the world a better place. First up. What is it? Don't say get in. It's a pig.
Cute little piggies. There's 3.
Yep. Next up.
Chicken. Oh, look. A cow. Oh, look. It's my favorite animal.
Which is a horse.
Oh look, it's so pretty.
Another horse. Grandma's got one. Yeah. She gave you towels.
What?
How nice. She's got you towels.
Yeah.
Uh oh.
Wow.
This came from all the brothers.
Oh, the brothers love you.
You get 2 towels, okay? So they're for you.
Something's in the middle. One for the morning, one for the night.
Right.
Let's see what's in this card.
Oh, look, $40.
Dollar bills. Oh, this is a surprise. Does she know what it is yet? No. This is a really good surprise.
Oh, what is this?
Wow, it's a dress! What does it look like?
Ray?
Yes, it's a Rey dress. It's supposed to— Rey, it's a character on Star Wars.
He likes it.
She likes it.
You like that?
Yeah.
1, 2, 3. Perfect.
Happy birthday to you.
I did it! How is the birthday girl?
Perfect.
Time for the birthday blessings. I'm ready. Youngest to oldest.
I like Lily because she's nice and I like to play with her.
I like it. That's a good blessing. That'd be Josiah next.
Lily's fun, caring, nice, and she's fun to play with.
Ooh. Jonah.
Lily's nice, fun. She lets me pair her to clean my room because I don't want to. He pays you $25. Deals. I do not want to clean my room. And she's just a nice, um, younger sister.
I might have to hire her.
I'm seeing an opportunity here.
Lily, you're my only daughter. That makes you very special because you and I are the only girls in the family and we stick together. And you're becoming quite the cook and cleaner. You're very good at both of those things. And helper, like you love to help. We were watching all vlogs and you were quite the, uh, character with your clothes. She used to wear funky outfits. It was a lot of fun looking back on it and seeing you and how far you've come and how much you've changed in the 5 years that we've been vlogging. It's, it's kind of crazy. You've really grown up. I'm so thankful that we have all those videos. I love you, and I look forward to spending the weekend with you.
This is a typical day. You're up, you're out barefoot. You might pick up a worm along the way. You'll go tend your rabbits, you'll go milk the cow, and just get down and dirty. And, but you'll do all that while wearing the most beautiful dress. You can be a princess and then you can cross over and be a cowgirl and that's a lot of fun. That's a fun person. But it's also gonna be a very productive and useful person when you grow up. I remember at the turkey butchering, this is the height of your princess cowgirl-ish. Okay? You made gloves. Out of the turkey's neck skin. You got the skin off the turkey.
I was gonna use one for a doormat.
A doormat. So just getting in there, getting hands dirty, getting hands raw, raw turkey guts, and making a nice princess glove out of the turkey neck.
Yeah, and also a meal.
Sheep butchering, where we did the steer and the sheep.
Yeah.
The head was sitting off to the side because we were saving it, and she walks over there and like pokes her finger into the eyeball. She's getting quite the science lesson.
Yeah, and she kept that tail.
She did.
As a broom and hung it up in decoration in the bathroom. What was that gonna be for?
Uh, it was gonna be for— I was gonna strip off the hairs and make bracelets and sell them.
There you go. Oh, he's an entrepreneur too. That's good.
We're really thankful to have a little granddaughter in the family, and I like how she helps milk. That's really nice. And she helps Mama around the house, and she cleans the table so nice. You're a real blessing, Lily.
You're a hard worker. You're the only waitress. She doesn't wait Till the person finishes. You're ready for it to get done? It's too bad they didn't finish up. They'll have to hurry up, won't they? When you're ready to clean, you're ready to clean. It's a good attribute that you can work so hard and that it doesn't bother you to clean your brother's room for big dollars. I'm glad, I'm glad you're getting paid well. So, but, uh, I hope this, uh, birthday is special to you.
10 years old.
Happy birthday.
Happy birthday.
Happy birthday.
