My Plan to move these FAT Pigs (before it’s too late)

In this vlog, Victor Justin Rhodes and his crew discuss the urgent need to relocate rapidly growing pigs to new paddocks before they outgrow their current space. They outline the two target areas—a deep‑bedding "pig port" and a forested pasture—while noting missing equipment such as water lines and a pig nipple waterer that are on the way. The team coordinates volunteers (Jason, Arthur, Rebecca, Jonah, Mark, Josiah, etc.) to physically move the pigs, describing the handling technique of grabbing pigs by the back legs and using tarps, wood chips, and sandbags to protect the animals and the site. They also detail site‑preparation work: clearing forest trees, creating a burn pile for brush, laying down ash and charcoal, and installing sheep‑net fencing to deter coyotes, referencing advice from experienced farmers like Cliff Davis. The vlog transitions into a Kickstarter update, promoting a documentary and a Permaculture Pigs course that will share their two‑year bacon‑raising journey, featuring guest experts Joel Salatin, John Arbuckle, and others. The tone remains informal, urgent, and enthusiastic, encouraging viewers to support the Kickstarter before the deadline.
Chapters
Time's ticking, pigs are growing.
Have you seen how big these guys have gotten?
Huge, huge, huge, huge.
And you're just getting bigger by the second here if you eat these scraps.
What, is that how you like to get in? That's a nice way for you to get in. All right, let's, uh, Let's muck their pile, dude. The two different systems— three are going to a forested system, help us clear for a little bit of pasture in that forest.
Two are going to—
I don't know, we haven't thought of a good name for it— pig port, uh, demonstrate a deep bedding, small, small area. Both of those, we lack something that's coming in the mail. For the forest, we're lacking water lines. It's coming in the mail, should be here soon. The Hog Mahal, the deep compost system, is— we're waiting on the pig nipple waterer.
We can turn that tank on when the water is here. Okay, the water is good.
So I want to move these guys as soon as possible, so there are a few things we need to do, can do, before the rest of the equipment gets here to get their places ready.
And I'm gonna round up some friends— Arthur, Jason— to come help me move these guys, maybe Thursday or Friday, because you got to grab these pigs by the legs.
It's going to be my best idea, and put them in a crate, and we'll haul them over with a trailer on our mower to where they need to go. And then, like, over there at the hog behind, I gotta lift them back up. And put them out.
You bought me it.
That's, that's amazing. Thank you.
So why did you buy me it?
So you can help me.
Good.
I just texted Jason and Arthur last night.
Somebody text me back.
Oh, it is from Arthur. Let's see what he says. Oh my gosh, I don't think it's good. Oh my gosh. So cutting hay killing pigs and planting. Jason says yes, sounds good. Yes, I'm open to either day. I asked for Thursday or Friday. Bad news is, uh, Arthur's not available. The good news is Jason is. We're just gonna have to make it work. Rebecca said she could do it. You know, some of these guys are a little bit smaller, but that guy's huge. So basically we got to get them in the stall, get them cornered. Jason's gonna have to grab them by the back legs. I could grab one.
Oh, that's it.
Once he grabs them by both back legs and holds them up in the air, I could grab one leg. I could. And then Rebecca will have to lift the front of them because I think they're going to be too heavy just to sling up. I bet Rebecca could— Rebecca and Jonah could lift the front and guide them in. That's what we're gonna have to do.
Don't drive over to the pigs.
Okay, you want me to hold this? Okay, okay, that's what are you gonna try? Oh good, yeah, you're a man's man, aren't you?
Huh?
Did you just go over there, grab that pig by the back legs? Was that easy?
Yeah.
If you can do it, we can do it, huh? Yeah, I think we can do it. We all— we always figure out a way, don't we? Yeah. Huh? Huh? Yes. Way to take the stress out of the situation, Mr. Brown. Good job. Come on, grab hold of my shoulder. Oh, or my arm. All right, there we go. All right, Mr. Brown, let's, let's get stuff ready. We got our wood chips dumped on the side of the road, guys. Hey, let's go get a tarp and cover that up. We want to keep those dry. I think I'm gonna go your idea. Let's just go far. We're running right behind the water. That's a good idea.
Good idea, Mr. Brown.
Oh, quick before it turns on us. Oh, excellent. I know where silage tarp is.
I know where the tarps are.
Yep, but do you know where our sandbags are? If we have any. The silage tarp is so where I put it. Hey, I couldn't find any sandbags, but I don't know, maybe those locust posts. We have an hour to clear the forest. I think that will do it, Jenna. Uh, what?
Ride the mower.
Okay, we're gonna ride here. You want to ride this?
Yeah.
Okay.
They always want to ride.
Look at these guys, fat and happy. You can't even stand up. Look at, look at you, potbelly. You can't even stand up. Wait, I guess we got that fast. We just like a couple more trees and we're done with this forest paddock. For as far as prepping, that's ready. Then we need to get the fence to go around it. The boys dragged all these logs out. I'm gonna have to drag them back in, put them right there in a burn pile. I changed my mind. I put the burn pile a little further off. I don't want to like catch any of these locust trees on fire. We'll haul this brush out to it and it'll be close enough. Once that burns down, we'll have the ash, we'll have the charcoal. Real near the site. Now we have all this cut down. Let's— kids, let's haul this from here to our brush pile over there. We got it cleared for our perimeter. One more thing to do. Let's start putting up a net. My dad came by the other day and he said, uh, you thought about coyotes? I said no. Uh, that little pig fence though It's not going to keep out a coyote. I asked Cliff Davis, am I going to worry about coyotes with these pigs? He said, yeah, until they're 100 pounds. I said, well, will a sheep net keep a coyote out? Yep. So we're putting up sheep nets. Can somebody come help me? Somebody help me!
I'm not gonna be able to make it around.
That's true. We're gonna need, gosh, probably 2 more. Booyah! Looking like a pig heaven right here, right? Very soon, by the end of the week. Nope, no pig nipple water from yesterday. You got our chainsaw stuff, huh, Mark? This is a retainer right here that keeps the, uh, screw from coming out. Okay, nice. Before we close out this vlog, do you guys want to see the cut hand? Do you want to see the progress? If you don't want to see that, you might want to tune out right now. I'm gonna show you. Ready? 1, 2, 3.
Papa, can I touch it?
Itches like crazy. Just barely touch it. I need you to wash it. There's some dirt on it. Yeah, it gets kind of dirty around those fingers up there. Ooh, sensitive there, Josiah. Everybody coming, getting a look. Well, it's feeling pretty good. It's not like hurting like all the time like it was.
That's our Kickstarter update. Oh, you're gonna sit with me for this?
Good man.
Hey, um, yesterday Rebecca got our tickets.
What do we get tickets for?
Well, I'll admit, well, I'm only in my second season of growing pigs. I by no means know everything there is to know about pigs. Heck, I don't even know everything there is to know about chickens. Learning something new every day. But that's what this Kickstarter project is about. It's one, a documentary of our 2-year process of growing bacon. That's our journey— the ups, the downs, the failures, the wins. For the course Permaculture Pigs, sure, I'm going to teach you everything that I've learned, what I've learned from my successes and failures, but also I'm bringing in my friend Pig Whisperers Joel Salatin. Y'all know him. John Arbuckle. A great pasture-based pig guy, grows his own forage guy. You've already seen Cliff Davis, a great forested pig guy, commercial pig farmer. And then we're bringing in Alumna too, another homesteader. So Al and I are bringing in the homestead level. John and Joel are taking it to another level, kind of level, you know what I'm saying? So Rebecca got those tickets, we're on our way. It's like, uh, first or second week, early June. We're going. I'm so excited. We're going to take you guys in the vlog. But dude, get in there. Get in the Kickstarter. I'm uploading stuff now. That stuff won't be available until the product's done in like the fall-ish. So get in there. Get in on this journey with us, guys. It's only up till Sunday at midnight. And it's like half off right now, guys, because you believe in it. You're jumping in it. You're getting with— like over 200 people have gotten on board with this thing.
Let's do this.
Let's do this together. Yeah, it's gonna be good.
Oh, I forgot to say, link in the description. Y'all know that by now, right? Y'all know that, right?
