New Mom back in the Garden. Kind of.

The vlog captures a bustling morning on a family homestead as the hosts—primarily Speaker A, Rebecca (a new mother), and their children—tackle a series of tasks. They begin by attempting to plant pumpkins, squash, zucchini, lettuce, and herbs in biodegradable pots, navigating seed and soil mix logistics. The group then rounds up escaped chickens, temporarily housing them in a greenhouse before moving them back to the paddock. Throughout, they juggle newborn care, with Rebecca nursing her baby while the kids help with planting. The video also shows a barn renovation project, including leveling a crooked structure, installing sliding doors, and assembling chairs, while Randolph assists with hanging a projector for an upcoming indoor showing. Interspersed are snippets of content creation: setting up cameras for an interview, editing YouTube and TikTok videos, recording a podcast, and discussing a business call. The hosts share practical homesteading advice, emphasizing the need for a reliable income—suggesting work‑from‑home or online entrepreneurship—before quitting a day job. The tone is informal, collaborative, and supportive, highlighting family teamwork, the challenges of new parenthood on a farm, and the blend of hands‑on labor with digital content production.
Chapters
Up and at them early this morning. Hope to start the pumpkins for the pumpkin patch today. Mom and Henry hope to help with that. I also got to get a fence in on the Three Little Pigs to train them to electric. We got a big move for the chickens today, so we're gonna hook up their shawl to the side by side. The door came down while we were driving with Sally and all the chickens got out. Well, not all the chickens, some of the chickens. We had this idea to get them to the greenhouse. We were able to catch some forehand. And now here we are. There, we got him in the greenhouse. Now he should be trapped. Oh, that's okay, Jenna, we'll get him in a corner. We got him in the greenhouse, but he got right back out. That dude's fast. There's two left out. I'll turn them around and get them back in the greenhouse. You stay right there, Jenna. Ah yes, we got him in. All right, now shut this door so they can't get out. You drive and I'll hold it shut. Okay, you'll walk behind it. All right, we're gonna try putting the chickens out right in the middle of the paddock, and hopefully that doesn't put as much pressure on the fence. Ready? Yeah, because I think every single one of them got out yesterday. Got the feed out nearby, training them, I guess. See that? We're early. John is setting up his cameras. He wants to interview me for a little cow course he's doing. We needed to beat the harsh light, so we need this soft morning light. You're coming out this morning, huh?
I am.
Do you got all the seeds? Yeah. How come I only see flower seeds? I'm looking for pumpkin and squash. I have— well, I have— they're in the Johnny Seeds box. Box.
I ordered them. All right, but I have these pumpkins that I'm going to, um, they're probably older, gotta get rid of them. See these? This is a blue pumpkin. All right, and then these are, uh, white, and then this is a white.
What are you gonna do with those? She looks at me like, what do you mean?
I give them as gifts. We can hollow them out and put a flower arrangement in them. Like, there's so many Juices.
Jonah, do you know— do you have headphones down there? Because if they're going to be working nearby, you're going to want to make sure you can't hear them. This is the Johnny Seeds.
What is in that?
Oh, you guys, you guys are cute. We are on a ticking time bomb though, aren't we? We need to go ahead and get her some soil right here. I hope we have some. I know, me too. I don't see any. We're gonna plant in these compostable biodegradable pots. We have those, we just need the soil. Is it in here? Uh-oh, I don't know what this is. Is that potting soil?
It is, but it's not for soil blocks.
Okay, yeah, it'll crumble. Does it matter if it does crumble? Because we're going to put it in those containers, we don't really need it to soil block.
It should be okay.
Okay. Hey, there's a bag right there. So we should probably save that for soil blocks and then just use the looser potting mix. Soil block mix, it lets you make it firm and it can stand on its own. It doesn't need a container. Those are your bigger ones.
Yeah, let's plant them in that then.
The bigger ones? Yeah, because they're squashes. Yeah, pumpkins.
Yeah, let's plant them in those.
You think that's too much? No. All right. Yeah, pretty heavy getting it back in there. Let's get it away from this because we don't want any soil go down in our French drain there. Turn on the water, Gideon. Good. Gonna need a lot of water. Try not to spill it over. Get the soil mix, it's up here on the table. Gideon, you helping her? Uh-huh. We've already got one tray. How's it feel to be back at it on the farm? So good. Good. I think this all came from him having a terrible night the last— the night before. She's like, I'm getting this baby outside.
So why don't you do chores with us? And I was like, oh yeah, I could do that.
Jenna just got it. Did you feel like the lighting was good? Yeah, we did an interview. Did I, did I do good? Did I talk too long or too short? Good. You don't want to say it? Yeah, you talk good. You tell me the truth. Hope to help him out some. He's a little entrepreneur there. I'm gonna help any way I can. In the meantime, the kids and mom planted all this. They probably did nearly half that soil. I feel like she kind of— she did have to walk away. The baby was crying, needed nursing. I feel like maybe she was a little disappointed. Let's see if they, they were able to finish or what they got to do. Hey, are you disappointed? Yeah, I thought you looked disappointed. Why? Because you got so much done.
I wanted to do more.
What did you think?
I hoped I would get the little bit.
You thought it was gonna be old Becky's back? Well, you'd come out there and work for hours.
I know I couldn't do hours. I could have pushed through, but Jonah was there filming you.
Okay, that's why it was—
I need to figure out how to do this better. I do have to go back and finish what I started.
It looked like you guys got a lot done.
I got it.
I would say that'd be pretty successful given that you have a baby on there. Oh, hey, well, you're an inspiration to all the homestead mamas out there. Yesterday's swill, cooked chicken onion soup. Good morning, guys! Look at this! I do get— I do get so excited about this. They've dug almost all the way to the ground here. They're starting to expand over, and this is— look, this is looking like really rich stuff. Boom! They just exploded it in here. There's a big crater in here from them digging. Look, this is warm, super warm, warm to the touch. I bet they do sleep down in there. You like that cooked chicken, don't you? They would work this even faster. They've gotten this corn up, but we have food scraps. I mean, what are we gonna do with our skim milk, our ornery chickens? So we feed— we feed them It doesn't matter if they're taking a little longer in here. I say take your time, they're very happy. All right, Jonah, Arun, you guys got this. It's not Jonah's favorite chore. There's a cool side in it, right by the river. Hey, this is grass we couldn't graze because of our old perimeter fence. Perimeter fences no more. Teddy's dog groomer's here. Looks like they're jamming out in there, having a good time. Hey, man, good morning! We got you back.
Back for more?
Yeah, they're taking a break from laying carpets today, huh? Yeah, I about had all that carpet I can stand. What do you think about this? You seen this? This is looking good. This concrete? Yeah, makes all the difference, doesn't it? Boy, it does. We're gonna have a showing in here this Saturday. Premiere. So we got this projector. You can help me hang it up. It turns out Randolph is here for the week, so he's gonna hang the projector. We're gonna wall up this entrance. Still gonna have sliding doors. Just gotta make it dark in there for daytime showings. Randolph will never watch a movie at night. Really? We're in the bed, aren't we? Especially in the summer. We can't wait till 9:30 to start a show. No, especially with this one.
It's gonna be midnight before we got in bed. Henry got fussy, we went upstairs and nursed, and now he is asleep and Justin is watching him for me. So Jonah's helping me. I planted zucchinis, I planted lots of pumpkins, I planted some lettuce. I want to do some flowers and some herbs too.
Well, I had to bring Rebecca the baby. He woke up, I changed him, but He wanted something else that I can't get. Looks like she did a lot. Looks like she might be done-ish. But usually with gardening, when I think she's done-ish, she's only just begun. Did you finish or just begin? Whoa! Oh wow, you got really good trim! He just got to the groomer. Come over here, can we see you? Oh wow, I like it! I like the summer do. Look at this hairdo. Yeah, she got him to sleep. All right, big daddy, keep an eye out on him. Boy, Freddie's feeling good. Weeding the raised beds. Did you finish your pumpkin project?
I planted acorn, butternut, spaghetti squash.
Yum.
I planted some flowers. I planted all the pumpkins that I wanted to. I planted some zucchini right over there. I planted some bunching onions. Now I'm planting some snow peas. I planted that side, now I'm gonna plant this side. And I'm gonna plant some cilantro and parsley.
Okay.
Grandma and Grandpa had to leave and Henry is waking up and I'm done. I got it done. Hey buddy, hi!
I came over here to Randolph, I'm like, is that level? See the brackets? But that means just the barn's wonky. That's character. Randolph, shall we try to hang this then? Yeah, all we got to do is climb that bird and stick it in there. All right, yeah, just, uh, stick it in there on— there it is. That looks good. Oh, he's going to try the level. Make sure I didn't— what do you say? Well, is it off? I might could come up a half inch on that end. Yeah, we might come up a half inch, but, uh, you got it, you got it, you got the space. Yeah, that's crazy. The barn's so crooked. I mean, even if he brings it up half inch, it's still going to be kind of wonky. What are you two doing? Why don't you put together those chairs? Yeah, yeah, all right, you can at least unbox them. This is the finished good. That looks super good. It's super comfy. I like it. Y'all are on it. Look at what these kids have done. Good job, guys. Looks like you got 12, but I thought we got like 30 of these. Oh yeah, we got more.
Yeah, do you see how many chairs are in here?
14, 16, 18. Okay, all right, I think we need at least 30. Meanwhile, Randolph's been ripping the side off. Don't worry, just relax. It's just this side. The thought here is since we're gonna have to lower the door so we can close it off, instead of boarding up right there and then having that pine, we're gonna pull that pine down too and we're just gonna straight up board. It'll just be one long length. Where'd the wall go, Mr. Brown? We're bringing this down, I don't know, to the standard door size, 7 feet, and then these will be sliding doors. We had to bring the door size down so that we could actually slide underneath that arm. Hey, you guys did it! You got all chairs? It looks like though we can hold a lot more than 30 in here. This is nothing. We still have that area over there. I've been inside working on the content, getting the YouTube edit up, TikTok, Instagram, uh, getting the Rooted trailer out. The other chairs did come. The FedEx guy— there he is. I'm going back to the grind, getting this content out. Uh, going to do a podcast today, got a business call. I think the time lapse would be more interesting. All right, got off the podcast. Randolph has gotten further out here. Let me show you guys something up here. You know, one thing I took away from the podcast is I encourage people when they're looking for something new, like they're wanting to leave the city, go to the country, First piece of advice that you're probably not going to find on the internet is don't quit your day job. I mean, quit your day job if you hate it, but get another job. Like, to homestead, you're going to need income. So find a job where you can work from home, start your own entrepreneur business. What am I going to show you? Oh, here it is. Look at that, little eggs. So we're not going to rip these pines off yet until we're ready to replace them, so hopefully we don't disturb that That bird there. So yeah, I mean, homesteading costs money. Now it's one thing if you're gonna start a market farm and sell stuff to have an income, well then that's having a job, uh, and that counts. So do that, do a work from home or online creation or whatever. Just don't, don't quit your income job. Speaking of jobs, now back to a business call. Randolph, one step at a time. We're gonna show the ladies. Oh, this is weird. He's got the whole— What's the matter? What's the matter? You were happy. We're together. I just got off the call and I want to spend some time with you. You don't think?
Yeah.
No.
