No Grocery Store Required! 30 Pounds of Food Renewed Downstairs Daily

The video follows a day on the Reedy Fork homestead, showing the family’s routine of animal care, feed logistics, and food processing while interweaving personal reflections and vlog production. The father (Speaker A) coordinates milking, feeding cows, pigs, chickens, and geese, addresses a sudden drop in egg production, and manages hay shortages caused by nesting geese. He works with delivery driver George to unload and organize feed pallets, discusses national shipping options, and handles cream separation and cleaning. The family prepares a hamburger and hot‑dog party for their child Azariah, sets up a dog crate, and engages the kids in moving livestock. A polar‑plunge segment with guest Arun and a dry‑ice carbon‑dioxide demo provide entertainment. Throughout, the vlog crew deals with technical challenges (editing, storage, intermittent fasting) and plans future videos (Art & Bree, milking stanchion tour). The narrative balances the ideal of homesteading with the reality of hard, problem‑solving work, emphasizing community, learning, and the satisfaction of self‑sufficiency.
Chapters
You going with Mr. Brown? Why not?
Playing with Azariah.
Because with Amy and Arun come Azariah. It's me and you this morning. Josiah said he would do the chores.
And bring the cows in.
We would do the milking.
And feed the pigs.
So give me a second, let me switch my socks.
Papa, are you joking about the hot dog party?
No, we're gonna have a hamburger and hot dog party for Azariah. That's what you want? Want it coming back? We got to talk to your mom about that. Good morning to you too.
Here, let me show you something.
Watch this. Come on, Teddy. Go to him, go to him. He sees the excitement here. You see the excitement, huh? Is it exciting here? Go to Jonah, go to Jonah. Come here.
Hey, he's like, hey.
We also have to figure out why that's the only amount of eggs we got. We've been getting mucho eggs and then all of a sudden— so why?
All the hay's gone for some reason.
Yeah, every day new hay, man. It's gone because the geese are broody. Not broody, they're nesty. They're wanting to build nests. I guess that's broody. I got you some hay out of here, add that to it, and then go put these in the nest boxes. Okay, okay. Nice touch, we got a unicorn. A unicorn with a rainbow horn. I'm laughing because sometimes we— we never got a leash. That's the leash? No. Anyway, I always make the joke, you have this dream about homesteading and it's all sunshine and everything going good, and then you get into reality and it's a lot of hard work and continually solving problems, but it's very fulfilling. It's not unicorns farting rainbows. Ain't nobody farming unicorns. I guess that's a good reminder. A good example being the last month or two eggs running out our rear end. Mucho huevos. But now all of a sudden, just like that, it dropped. Look, there's already 2 chickens getting in those nest box now that you put hay in it. We got the feed up off the ground because they've been in there long enough. They need to go out. They need to go out because Mom's gonna plant our strawberries and asparagus there, and the strawberries are on their way. The flies are on their way. We won't follow the cows yet until the flies are here, but we can go out in the field and restore the pasture with these chickens though. Will you go fill that up for me please?
Let me just get some of those guys, they're upset.
Just a little bit, half of that to each of them. How you doing this morning, huh? How are you doing? What? It's Reedy Fork Farm! Shoot, I guess we're about to milk and here comes Reedy Fork work. Our feed. It's feed day.
Shoot.
All right, let's get the Suburban out of the way. Yeah, go start the tractor. Thank you. He's never come this early. It's like 8 o'clock. Well, we'll take it. We'll get it out of the way. We're out here. So the question is making room for it. So I need to get rid of one of these pallets. Both these are feed. The kids didn't empty one before they started on the other, and there we have two heavy feed bags. That one is probably gonna be our best chance pulling it off so we can make room for another pallet. Oh yeah, I'm gonna be able to pull it now. Platform down and then just push it with the tractor. Chicken feed, chicken feed, alfalfa. Let's get George these bags. He comes a lot cheaper if you buy them by the tote. Good morning, early bird!
Good morning!
What's the occasion?
It's the second Thursday.
All right.
Yeah, I'm just trying to get all my deliveries.
Knocking me out first?
Yep, you're the first stop.
Good. A lot of people wondering where I get my feed from. That's Reedy Fork Farm. That's George. That's actually the owner making the delivery. Champ too, has this big truck. That's the backup. All this mile-end dead road, dead-end road. You got it. Okay, I'm doing a good job. Well, oh shoot, we're doing it a day early. Did you—
okay, there you go. Yeah, we are doing it a day early.
You want to write the check and I'll start getting milk out for you? So sorry, I forgot. It's okay, you told me.
I just remembered, actually.
All right, we are cream separating today. Hey guys, don't fall down on me. I was talking to you. I was saying this is it, plus my 6, plus 4 gallons. 4 gallons, Rebecca. 32 pounds of food I harvested yesterday. It was awesome. 32 pounds, are you kidding me? That's in a day. So George, you deliver to Western North Carolina second Thursday?
Second Thursday of every month.
But what about Ohio? Do you go to Ohio?
We ship it, trucking companies. If somebody—
we can't ship it up. What about California? Yeah, we've—
if, if somebody wants to pay the shipping, we'll ship it.
You're national wide? And you have to order a minimum? Pallet? No, there's not. They can order one bag?
Yep, they can order one bag. Good. It's more economical the more they get, you know. I've got to get a rate for Oregon yesterday.
Good luck backing down this driveway.
Yeah, it's always fun going out. That's the part of it.
So how long does it take to back out a mile-long windy road?
About 15 minutes.
Okay. Anybody ever came while you did it?
It takes about 3 minutes to drive forward and 15 minutes to go backwards.
Yeah, anybody ever came while you were backing out?
Yep, a couple of times.
I wonder what they're thinking. I bet so. Yeah, save a gallon from yesterday for us to drink today. Okay, well, I'm gonna get it out now. Jenna, can you come shut this door for me?
I need you to open this one, this, like, all the way.
Oh my gosh, call the Inquirer. He's got a voice.
I'm gonna get you some food.
A man that knows what he wants. Oh, he loves it. No wonder he likes you. How'd you end up doing the feeding, Mom?
Well, it's only because he's like— I'm converting him over to our feed, so it's like I'm mixing his old feed with the new feed, and, and, um, it's just for a couple weeks.
Yeah. And then are you doing the rule of thirds? One-third of our food with two-thirds of theirs? Yes. Two-thirds of our food, one-third of theirs, and then all the way ours?
We are not to all the way ours, obviously.
No, it takes a couple weeks. So you know what, Rebecca, I'm going down to milk. I'm gonna leave these guys with you on a time lapse because they've seen me milk a thousand times. It's kind of rare that they get to do painting separate because you normally do that on Fridays when we don't film. Alright, got flossies going. How's it going in here?
It's going good.
Am I keeping up with you?
Yeah.
So I can take some pressure off myself? Yeah.
Yeah, you just go at whatever pace you need to. Oh, and I got the dishwasher going with— most of the jars.
That's the job.
That cleanup is the hardest.
Even just cream separating is a chore, but it's more of a chore to actually clean up after all that. This.
Yeah, it is.
Like, for example, we've got to clean these two 5-gallon—
well, and there's a bunch of parts in here.
There's a bunch. There's—
you have to hand wash every single one of them.
What's the occasion?
I'm tugging him because he's our best intern.
Where should I put this time-lapse? Where's going to be the action? Right here?
Yeah.
I'm back from milking. How's it, Becky?
What?
How's it going?
It's going good, but I need to concentrate instead of talking to my friend because, yeah, I, um, overflowed the cream. I thought she needs to lick the counter.
You can't be losing that cream. I know, which is what just happened.
I know, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna make it right somehow. I don't like it.
I think Brianna's going to.
No.
So what do you like What do you like better, cream or bacon and sausage?
Me?
Either one of you.
Oh, I think cream, because cream makes butter and it makes ice cream.
Yeah, ice cream. And it makes— okay, okay, then, then that's a disaster. You can't lose the cream.
Well, I like them both.
We can't just feed it to the pigs and be okay with it.
With my, uh, cup of tea. I don't know, but butter, like— though bacon grease makes everything taste better too, except coffee.
Oh my God.
Hey, Gideon. Are you coming with?
To do what?
Come on, we'll go check on the pigs. And we'll take hay to the cows.
Can you please— Can you ask our— some—
um—
Can you ask Mommy if we can set up that dog crate today?
Okay. Can you set up the dog crate with Gideon today? Oh no, why is he wet? I know. Running in the grass?
Running in the grass?
I can't take him. You gotta go dry him off, honey, before you put him in the house. Oh, are we already losing enthusiasm? Day 3, we've lost enthusiasm. No, I'm—
we're going inside of Raya's house and he's too messy to go inside.
Okay, go in the house and dry him off please, and then take him with you. Thank you, honey. Hey Jonah, will you put the cows out and I'll get the tractor out of the way? Okay.
Papa, you want me to kill your camera? Look, wham, pow!
All right, let's go grab the— we're letting Sally warm up. Let's go grab the pig stuff. We're gonna feed them all at once today so we don't have to go out to the forest twice. Scraps. I feel like that's not enough for 2 pigs, even with half a bucket of skim milk. You can fill it up with squashes. But you know what, let's just take this. That's got to get out of here. Can everybody say ooh? We're loaded, Jonah. Let's go get a shot of that. Mom and son eating breakfast together. She giving him a little lick. I forgot to get the sheep a little bit of hay, guys. Grass is coming soon. I mean, grass is already coming. It's not, it's not fast enough yet to get moving every day on it, but it's almost. Sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep! Come on! Good on water. So I'll save this up here for this afternoon. We want to bring water up. Good morning, ladies. How was your first night in the woods? Say glorious, of course, because that's where we belong. Oh, we'll hurry up and feed you guys, and then we'll take a look at the work y'all have done. I'm just gonna go directly on the ground. See, huh? They're eating it. Makes you don't care, do you? You eat that moldy squash. I know it's not skin and grain, but it'll fatten you up. Your second course, a little more tasty, food scraps. So you got some rinds, you got some cantaloupe scraps, you got some banana peels. Oh, you got some fried eggs! Look at that, second course. We're getting better, aren't we, guys? That's the sound we want to hear. You're eating like pigs! For the golden jewel here, watch this. Now they've died and gone to heaven. But I want you guys to see something. They've just been here overnight, and look, they've already disturbed. Guess what's going to come up there, guys? Grass seed's going to come up right there. This whole area will look like that, and they'll spring forth grass in here. Teddy, where's your people, buddy? Well, there's one. What you doing back?
Straightening the cords behind your desk.
Ah, maybe I should turn the oven off.
Yeah, turn it off.
Well, it's only at like 105.4. You think that's warm enough? Should be cooked a little bit more. All my external hard drives. Look at all that vlogging, Rebecca.
I know.
That's 5 terabytes each. Well, no, the new ones are 6.
The earlier ones are not.
And back here we just have one big black snake now with all those cords into them. Oh my gosh, man, that's what you got to do if you're going to have your desk in the dining room. Polar plunge time, this time with a very special guest all the way from India. Arun, oh look, like Azariah is prepared.
Yeah, he said he will try.
How long are you gonna go in for, Arun?
You know what, first time, first time, so I will see how many minutes I can survive because we're not used to right now because it was getting warmer in India and now we are here, it's so cold, so I don't know, you might have to call ambulance.
Well, the first 30 seconds it's gonna feel like you're dying.
But really, I get really—
if you can get through that, you can get to a minute. He's warming up. Is that gonna help? Okay, ready? Yeah, here he comes. It's cold. You gotta go quick. Oh my goodness. You changing your mind? You changing your mind? Do it quick. Ready? It's cold.
Come on, you want to do cold?
Cold. It's cold. It's just—
Azariah, but now it's like okay.
Like, see, now it's all good. Good job, man. Better than my first time. Way better.
I need to get out.
Maybe 1 minute only.
All right, all right. Good job, Arun!
You did way better than all of us.
How's it feel, Arun?
Now it's better. When I was coming out, I was like feeling like tingling, tingling in my bone body, but now it's fine.
You'll have energy all day, my man. Yeah, you were beast mode in there, man. Good job.
Thank you.
I'm editing. I hear the commotion. What is going on? Look. Wait. Are you sure this is not toxic?
Watch this.
What's going on?
Carbon dioxide. So I had some dry ice left over from a fish.
You look like the crazy witch lady right now.
So this one is just carbon dioxide. This is just warm water with dry ice in it, and this one I put soap in.
Okay.
So it's doing a little bit different.
Do the soap trick. Do the soap trick, Jonah. Ooh, getcha, bottles! I don't think Katie knows what to do with that.
I'll smack at ya!
Do you not know what to do with this? Do you not know? Do you not know? His little heartbeat is going.
Hi, look at his mouth!
Alright, they're having fun. I guess I'm having fun. Gonna start editing the video today. It's one of those days. Where everything just took a little longer for whatever reason. Just little hiccups. It's like 10 till 1. This is hot news. Yeah, Mama Strawberries has come. Now I don't think we're gonna have time to plant these until like Sunday, so What are you gonna do?
I'm gonna figure that out. Yeah, we can set up the dog.
These are going where the Icelandics are, so we gotta get them out. And then—
oh wait, let's put these back down.
These in. See this? Oh, that's— well, I think we're gonna go on round 3. Dishwasher's ready, Rebecca. Uh, I'm having a hard time concentrating. I don't know, come Thursday, it's hard for me to Stay focused on edit. Also, I'm trying not to— I'm trying some like long intermittent fasts. Just doing liquid means más leche para digesting. Gusting. So, feeling a little hungry, just gonna grab a little glass of milk instead. Or I'm just bored. I'm tempted just to do this. Just to break up the monotony. But I really want to get this Art and Bree video done. Jonah and Josiah pitching in, they're going to move the cows and sheep. Let's hit it again. Oh, look, look, precious. I like having a little buddy, a little loyal buddy. You're just so in love. Oh yeah, he's banging that tail on there. Yes, he is. He's just right, Becky. I got up with the vlog, but if it's okay with you, I'm going to start working on Art and Bree's video. Yes, milking time. Check on the boys real quick. Really jamming to the audiobook and drawing pictures. The boys moved the cows from across the street down to, I guess you could say that's our backyard. Good job, boys!
Happy?
Those animals are happy. Good job, Jonah and Josiah. You're making this possible, guys. They're making this possible. All these extra videos. 2 bonus videos this weekend if I can get this Art and Bree up. We got a milking stanchion tour coming on Saturday for you. Hopefully this Art and Bree on Sunday. Oh, Mr. Brown's been wanting to do this all day. Yes, you guys gonna put together the crate? Yes, I am done with the vlog. Did not get the Art and Breathe done. Might get it done tomorrow. So I guess Sunday will be a surprise. You might get a bonus video. We might have to wait till the next week. Is it good, guys? We're having fish. Grandma came and helped with this one. Thank you, Grandma.
