Only One Thing Between Us and Moving In

A family races through final homestead prep before moving in: installing drainage for the building inspection, getting power activated by Piscat Electric, and checking on pregnant goats Honey and Vanilla. Jonah recovers from his hip replacement with a slight leg-length difference but no concerns.

Happy day, y'all. We gotta hurry. Big day today. Lily's got a horse thingamajigger cow ride plus with friends. Dentist appointment for Blaze. That means we have 45 minutes. Get in, come on. Regular trash service comes today. We're allowed like 9 bags. We could do 4 more bags. We want to maximize the regular trash service because our one bi-monthly, so every other week, dumpster is kind of small for the amount of construction trash we're gonna get.
Is this already working?
It's already going from the doo. The other thing, we're aiming for the impossible. I need to get this dug and put in so the boys can see the line and have me a hole through here. Stuff like this can be thrown away.
There, I know Austin's gonna miss that show, right Austin?
I'm like, I expect to see that in the video.
Hey, I feel pretty good about that. Almost maximum. I would strain to find a whole lot more trash. Boys are having excitement at the milking parlor. I think the other animals got over while they were milking. Where's the school bus now? All right, what do y'all need? Where are we putting people? He-man busted over while you were milking? Yes. Honey doesn't want milk. She has a sense of wanting to be with them. She don't even go settle for the alfalfa. We're actually a little concerned about He-Man that he might not be fertile.
It happens to lots of guys.
We took a pregnancy test of Vanilla. It's been 6 months. She should be pregnant a long time ago. She should be like 4 or 5 months pregnant. So for that matter, Honey hadn't shown any signs of heat, so we think, okay, that means she's been bred. All right, come on, girl. We're gonna get Honey tested. And if both gals are not pregnant, it's probably not the gal. That'd be a fat chance that it's both the ladies.
Let's get him in.
Come on. All right, now get your— here, let's close this up a little bit. 23 minutes, you think we can dig 2 holes in that time, Gideon? I bet we could if you grabbed a shovel. Inspector was so kind yesterday on his electrical inspection to say, hey, you're gonna need about Drains. Yeah, for these gutters. I believe that's the only one, so we've got to drain it up. Okay, and if we set up the digging holes, then the excavator can dig from one of our holes to the next. We will use the excavator. Comes down that rain chain into that drain box, pipes over to here to our drain, and then that goes just like that too. So we need to dig up around this one. The boys can't get that close to that with that machine. And then we need to dig up that one. I don't see why the Mini X couldn't get in here. So the Mini X could get in here, could not get over there. So let's be smart. Hey, it's Piscat Electric! That means our power is getting turned on today. Hey, got that hole dug. We have 11 minutes. Should we dig the other one? Yeah, start chipping away over here, Gideon. Move our rain chain out of the way. Gotta start. That shows where it's at. At least hollering at me. Boy, she keeps it. She runs a tight ship. Really, I probably shouldn't be leaving. I'm supposed to have a 10 o'clock meeting with the painter. There was only 3 things though I found. It was to go over everything. There was only 3 things I found, so I've texted him. I told told one of the workers who speak a little bit of English. We've tried to prioritize the rebuild. We all want to get in our house, but there's also our normal life. We're there. What are you looking forward to doing today, Lily?
Probably riding.
Who are you riding with?
Um, not only Olivia, Abby, and a bunch of little ones.
Super clean. Mine's just going tricky.
I'm riding with fun.
Wow, not about speed, it's about hopping. Wow, how'd the training go?
Um, good.
On a scale of 1 to 10, what would you give it? 8. Oh, is that fun, huh? What did you like most about it?
Probably jumping that big ditch.
Good place for a nap. What do you think they're gonna say? Go home and keep living your life. I know, right? This is so redundant. Hope the next one isn't for another 5 years, bro. Be sure to tell them you kick all our butts in mountain biking and you're doing great. Okay, for those of you that are new here, Jonah had a dirt bike accident, what, a year and a half ago now? 2 years in September. And it ended up in a hip replacement. If y'all knew her, you would never know the way he goes. He gets to drive you to it. Why you over there? Pop chocolate. Pop one for me. I will, baby. All right. Thanks. Oh, I love you too. How come he's letting you go?
I don't know.
He knows about it. He's warning. Mr. FOMO has usually got to go. All right, go with him. He's gonna be a little sad. Look how sad he is.
He is.
He's gonna stay. Say bye.
We've been on the road for an hour and a half. Jonah, my chauffeur, is taking me. I feel like he's gonna get a great checkup. Jonah, of course, is nervous because he, um, just is nervous that there could be something wrong and he doesn't know. So I don't think that is the case because he doesn't seem to have any problems, but we're gonna go ahead and get the checkup, and then it'll be another year before we have to come back. I think, I don't know if he wants us to come back in a year. I'm thinking he does. We're gonna find out today. All right, we have arrived at the doctor's office. We're gonna go in, see what they say. Feeling good about, yeah, everything's okay, I guess.
Hey there. Hey.
Hello.
How are you guys?
Good, how are you?
All right, so you're walking in from outside. I like that. He's walking pretty well. Yeah? All right.
So he actually biked 30 miles.
Strong work.
In June and July. So, and he rides, he rides a mountain bike with his brother and his father. All right. How's it feel?
Feels good, yeah.
4 years. We come back and get another x-ray and then just do that until there's a problem and then we'll have all these x-rays, so. Sounds good.
Homestead store, really? Here to get some piping.
Come on, I'll get you.
I heard you. We'll let you go to the mowers real quick though.
Okay.
I think the only thing standing between us and final inspection— that's a little bit of work that Randolph's doing— is getting this special drain pipe in. You guys never seen those before? We don't have to have it covered, but we'll cover it tomorrow. Josiah, you want to cover this? We'll cover it right now. Got black corrugated pipe to white PVC pipe. It's more enduring. We're gonna have two little tire track rock slabs, something, something look nice, and the rest is gonna be yard. But we'll be able to back up to our deck here and unload big stuff. There you go. Hey, what's the full report? I'll go back in 4 years and just— everything's good. Did you tell him you kick all our butts in mountain biking? He said it's a good sport though. It's a good sport for a hip replacement guy? Yeah. Okay, good. What wouldn't be? Soccer, running. I don't know if running is good for anybody. I mean, I used to love it, but I think walking is better. Rebecca, give me the full report. Jonah's holding back.
Um, nothing. I mean, he asked him how he's doing, has he got any problems.
Jonah, any concerns?
He had no concerns. The only thing is if he was not, um, level. So in the thing he said—
was he level?
He's not. Oh shoot, his right leg's a little bit longer, right?
Yeah, it's always been like that though.
Okay, but he said that it's not that big of a discrepancy because he did it from here to like the same— he went across on the x-ray to where it was the same spot on the other side. Yeah, and it was off slightly, not enough. And he said if that becomes a problem—
5 years—
if he said it becomes a problem— Jonah grew 4 inches since November.
Goodness, Jonah, we're gonna have to cut your legs off.
So he said if it— if there's— if we notice a huge discrepancy, call him back, come in, we'll— they'll have to do surgery, which, uh, yeah, this gentleman's getting Older.
Goodness, a fly be trying to get in my ear. Freaking house. All right, when's our house gonna be ready? 9 days. It's sealed tight too.
I'm just glad to be out of the traffic.
Uh, wait, is this gentleman gonna be there even? Because he's kind of getting towards retirement.
I know.
All right.
Although it's funny because when we were walking in, we saw him. Jonah goes, do you think he remembers me? And he said, I saw you walking in. I said, that boy's walking good.
Good job. Happy day.
