A family canning tomatoes toward a goal of 100 quart jars of sauce, currently at 50, while dealing with worms and mold in the fruit. They're also stringing beans on a trellis and working through home renovations and mild stomach issues.

Bella, you feeling any better? A little bit. You're not laying on the couch. You're gonna take a little slow start. The boys have the side effects. Just relax. And another one bites the dust. This time it's Gideon. That does make me think Jonah didn't get sick on the trail. He was getting some. Have you got the sickness yet?
No.
Oh boy.
On Monday I did when you guys were leaving. Yeah, he was complaining yesterday. He was complaining of a stomach issue.
Have you gotten That been partly what's wrong with you? Her head's feeling better today, but she's feeling better today, so we're gonna run with it and go get some tomatoes.
I don't like my belly.
It keeps hurting.
Like, I woke up and my belly was— well, where's your bowl? Everybody's gotten this, it's thrown up. So is that your tractor, Mr. Brown? He said— he said yeah, and I missaid your name. Henry. I'm carrying the bin, he's got me carrying the tractor. I have my camera bag. Will I actually use it out there? I don't know. Ready? Yeah, you're good, you're good. No, you're good. Hey, at least he still wants to go with me. There goes tomatoes. We're summoned to the homestead house. It's the number one party. I'm on a hunt for some wood.
It needs to maybe get a couple. Maybe I should go with you.
Okay, I'll just walk over there with you.
You carry it.
Uh, I gotta go down and get the measuring tape real quick then. We're getting shelves today. We ought to be getting a ladder for my office soon. We're gonna have to have that to get our certificate of occupancy. Painters have showed up today. Tile guy is gonna finish the master bathroom tile, and I believe even grout it. So I think tile's wrapping up today. It's a foot. There's an 8 or 9 incher right here on top. Yeah, here's a 10 incher.
Or do we want to do these?
Because you could, because they're shorter, and then we're not using our board. Let's see if that's— it's not short. You know, he can make multiples out of these. Just let's get what we can get. Yeah, uh, you want to get that one on the bottom? So might as well just get what we get. So what's your plan with these? These are poplar from the land?
No, it's maple.
Maple. And you're gonna have them painted or leave it as it is?
I want it to be left as it is.
That'll be pretty.
Maybe we'll stain it.
Good job.
These would be for a faceplate. Sorry.
All right, this is heavy. Brock says that's about half what we need. I think I'm gonna find a machine. I hear the boys up there. I badly want to be up there. I want to know if my water fix from yesterday is working. The problem is I'm not able to pull those out. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to unbury them. I'm gonna call it with that before I go start burying it, and if we need more— we don't have an exact count— I'll get it. This should be plenty here though. Okay, I think— do you have you working on that ladder too in the office? Um, yeah. Okay. Wow, this grass.
I know, it needs to be mowed.
We have enough, enough round, another round of tomatoes.
I was gonna wait till maybe tomorrow.
Oh really?
Because they've still got so much yellow on them.
All right.
I was gonna, I wanted to talk to Annie, but I couldn't find her.
If they're soft, they're not going to get any harder or redder. Annie, come here when you're done with that, please. I say harvest, she says wait.
Well, no, I wanted to talk to somebody.
Yeah, she's got a pulse on it. I feel like maybe it's a little different now because The first run, they were just getting red and not getting soft. Sometimes there's less tension when it's somebody else. We need a tiebreaker. Oh, thing is, they're starting to get soft. Okay, even though they're not crazy red.
So what I've been doing— put it in and take it. And what I've been doing is, because when we go to peel the skins, um, this yellow part that's that's not as ripened is tougher to peel off.
So you just been like cutting?
And so when I've been coring, I've been trying to core more around that and using just the red part.
And so that's why we need to get a heaping basket. Basket.
When I'm cutting into them too, some of them have those worms. Yeah, like I opened— like this little worm was just nestled right in there living his best life.
I think we do have enough of this, so do we want to do T-posts?
I think that's what we did with the peas. Peas. That's because you got runner beans instead of bush beans on accident.
I think so.
All right, we have a little surprise garden project this morning— stringing those beans. Did we have enough trellis, darling? Look at you, always prepared. Okay, our hope is, can we just hang this from our lower railings we installed earlier this year? And it be long enough? Gonna be too high up off the ground if we go all the way up to the support post. I'd like to go to the support post because then you could stretch it this way horizontally, you know, and I could do a twine down and hang it and it'll have strength going up. There'll be no tautness horizontally. This T-post gonna be tall enough? Because we could just forget hanging it and just put put T-posts down through there.
No, I found that I need— that you do need to extend it up. So it's tied here, and then this, yeah, would have a tie to that. Okay, kind of keep it up.
Post, zip ties, hanging this wire, metal wire, to the corner. Enough to get it taut here when I go pull on the other side. I'm gonna go pull on the other side. This actually worked great. We did have a wonky tie-down up there, pushed it that way, but once we got here and we're tied to our pole there, it brought it back. It's pretty straight. You think, well, why aren't you just putting it, letting it run up this? Well, this poultry wire, it just gets intertwined with it and it's a pain in the butt. Once it dies to pull it out. So we, we'd rather just get it on this and just throw it away. Bad news was that we had to trellis this. The good news is that we're not gonna have to bend over as much to harvest these beans. We got it taken care of and it actually turned out pretty nice. Surprise happy ending.
Your wife put in the T-posts for you.
Yeah, I did it.
It wasn't that hard.
Some of these tomatoes, they've grown so much that we can— let me clip some up higher. Part of my day right here. There's Stu. Tomatoes are not a big favorite, plus they have already eaten grain. They stuffed themselves with grain this morning. We were on our way back to the house. They may need to just straighten some things out with the painters, and we got to get Randolph to do some things for the job. Randolph's a good sport though. So we have to either caulk or trim in there. If you trim, you also have to caulk, so there's that. Love her excitement. She's on her hands and knees working today in the remodel. Tomato time. Roasting tomatoes, about to boil, sanitize jars. Today he's found a The worm, we got it dripping off the counter here. Oh, we have just done another round of tomatoes. Rebecca, how close are we to our 100 quart jar goal?
I'm not 100% sure because I need to count what's over there.
She's looking around. We had 30-something-odd before we had this. I feel like we might be halfway. 3, 6, 9, 12.
Well, that's not all tomato sauce. Some of it's juice. I feel like we're probably halfway.
12, 24, so we're at 50-ish. You're at 50-ish towards your goal. What are you gonna do if we get to 100?
I'm gonna be so happy. I'm gonna try to— so I've already learned But maybe we need more tomato plants.
She says that while the vlog's rolling so I don't lose my religion. 50 quart jars. Oh, you know what that means? Lazy man's lasagna tonight. Mr. Brown, just keep it on our vlogs, bro. When you're sick, he can watch the vlogs or the Olympics. Rebecca's been at it canning 7 more quarts. Annie's been helping us. I've been helping us a little bit. We're getting closer and closer to to our goal of 100 quarts. More going over to the root cellar. If we were to harvest our pork now, would we have tomato flavor?
I don't know if that's a thing.
That's fuzzy mold. I don't even think I'm gonna feed that to the pigs. Lily, you want to get her some onions cut up? Lazy Man's Lasagna, here we come. I will say, the tomato sauce, 7 quarts. Lazy man's lasagna.
It's just zucchini and it's a lot of farm food. Zucchini on the bottom and pão de queijo. Too bad. You must be feeling better.
I am feeling better.
Heck yes. Let's hope it continues. Happy day.
