In this informal farm vlog, the hosts (Speaker A and Speaker B) and guest Christy walk viewers through a series of on‑site challenges and daily life moments on their mixed‑species farm. The video opens with a search for longer zip ties to secure a makeshift barrier after a pig managed to eat a chicken, prompting a discussion of animal interactions and the need for better separation. They repurpose a discarded grate as a temporary fence to keep hens out of the pig area, while also considering feeding adjustments—feeding pigs twice daily or continuously—to reduce hunger‑driven aggression. The crew demonstrates rescuing an escaped chicken from a greenhouse, using a bucket and improvised climbing structures, and debates whether to clip wings for safety. They briefly touch on milking outdoors and how rain affects that process. Mid‑segment the hosts shift to a casual Taco Tuesday meal, introducing Christy, a longtime friend now in nursing school, and sharing personal anecdotes about past trips to Hawaii, New York, and the Great American Farm Tour, as well as family updates about their child Gideon’s age milestones. The vlog blends practical farm problem‑solving, animal husbandry tips, and community‑oriented storytelling, offering viewers a glimpse into the day‑to‑day realities of small‑scale farming.
Chapters
Good morning.
Hey, good morning. Hey, hey, do you have any zip ties?
Yeah, how long?
Uh, I don't know, what is it, 7, 8 inches?
Let me go down and look real quick.
Okay, that's not nearly enough. I think these are too little. Do you have any more that are this long?
Yeah, all right, go down, go down through the glass door and I'll meet you at—
okay, thank you.
Yeah, that'll do it. I think the black ones, or all of them. Yeah, all of them. We have a problem here. Okay, yeah, let's see if I can find something else. Uh, there's a little something. I think this is all that remains. Okay, maybe a little bit here. Yeah, you're out here yesterday and the pig was eating the chicken. I mean I knew it could happen. It's no surprise. They seem peaceful enough. I like the chickens in here because you can barely see any pig poop. See that? The chicken scratched the mulch on top of it, helped keep it sanitary in here. I was hoping that wouldn't happen. Oh wow, that's a first! There is a chicken on the greenhouse. They're trying to herd it back in. Somehow it got out. Look at that, that's crazy! Hope it doesn't puncture the plastic. I'll throw this empty bucket at it. Ready? Here comes— looks like our tin roof on top of the rabbits works. These old spots are a docile breed, but they're still pigs. I can't— I'd hoped it would work. But we can't keep having it because these are really good chickens. We could monitor the feed situation for pigs, make sure they're gonna feed them twice a day instead of just once so they don't get as hungry in between. We could feed them 24/7, but as bigger pigs, I understand they can overeat. They will overeat. This grate, whatever this is, it's coming so handy. We found in the dumpster one day. I don't know what they use it for. But we've used it to keep in chicks out on the yard. We've kept birds in our trailer by using this as a lid, and now it's going to be a fence to keep the hens out of the pigs. I was thinking we'd do it right here for this, but you want to see if it'll fit the gate?
Yeah, it's a little too long.
Yeah, you wouldn't be able to get to the— you're a little overlap. How's it going at the milking? Wait, you're not there. Oh, what's going on out here? You can milk out here? What happens when it rains?
We won't milk here.
All right, you like it out here?
Yeah, it looks just better.
All right.
Oh wow, that's what I'm talking about, guys. Good job. This, my friend, worked beautifully. Now, could they jump up there and get over? Sure, but not as often. That was a little tight because this is hanging over a little. All right, now to get those chickens out of there. And I guess they're gonna jump up there. That might be something we have to do is clip their wings. Don't want to clip their wings because I want them to be able to jump up on their nest boxes though. Of course, we could keep the next nest boxes next to the turkey shaw like we had it. I need somebody else to spot me while I get these chickens out of there. Josiah, is that you? Could you come help me? Bring a pig board. Look who's passed out. Josiah, we put his hood on. Okay, that'll make his head a little more comfortable. Look at them, all them would have went in there. Haha, you guys can't get in there. Although somebody has already gotten in there. Our lone rooster. Really, guy? Well, I think the temptation will be down anyway, so we'll see if that works. Uh-oh, uh-oh, get in! Come stop the chickens from getting out quickly! There you go, good boy. Hey, good looking, what you got cooking?
I'm making Salsa.
It's Taco Tuesday. Hey, we're having a special guest. Longtime viewers are gonna really appreciate this guest. I think 2016. It is finished and we have our guest here, Christy. Christy! 2016 Christy.
I mean, we've been friends for a while.
Yeah, nanny. You did some nannying for when we were getting the bus ready for the Great American Farm Tour. Yeah, and you went to Hawaii with us. Christy's running to the beach. Christy, come on! And you went to New York with us. So everybody wanting to know what you've been up to.
I am living life and I'm actually in nursing school.
So, okay, nice. Yeah, congratulations.
Thank you.
It's been a while since we've had a meal together.
I know.
The lettuce, we just harvested it, and the beef is from our farm. Yum. So enjoy. You met Gideon when he was how old?
He was 1.
Oh my goodness.
Yeah, he was like 1 and a little bit.
I remember we warned her. I think we have one tough kid.
We just scooped him up and then—
She just totally girded up her lines.
Yeah, just scooped him up.
That didn't faze her.
And now he's looking. He's good.
Yeah.
6.
And then—
7!
7! He just turned 7.
He did. I want to flash up a New York vlog. What was the name of that vlog? I remember it raining real bad. No, that we didn't vlog that day. Were you with us the whole time in New York?
Okay, but when we went to the Statue of Liberty, she was with us, and that's the vlog. The day it rained so bad, we didn't actually vlog that day. I don't think so.
It was the week of Rebecca's birthday.
That's right.
How do we pull that off? Because we put up a video every day. We did a tour of the fridge. Just went from New Jersey, Jersey City to New York City. We're going to pick up our very special friend from home.
Hi guys.
Hi Gideon.
He doesn't know what to make of this. What, are you afraid she's gonna take you?
Are you just tired?
See that? The bus ferry. Or the taxi ferry. Yeah, the taxi ferry. Check out this view.
