106 hours, no food. This is the last day. I'm feeling surprisingly good. I just want to rest today. Feet feel really good. There's no back stiffness. But there's no rest because we got a pregnancy test, cows. Well, let's check on the boys. I was there last night in the tent. Then we've got to keep working on that water line. The body's pretty amazing. I earned 6 hours without food going into my 5th day. I can't believe I'm lifting this. They made it. I'm proud of them. Let's go wake these boys up. Looking back on things, I started feeling good about 3 and a half days. Weak, but not tired. Not feeling like I had a low-grade virus. Not super irritable. I could keep going. Sleepies! See, you've congregated together to stay awake— to stay warm. What is happening here? Boy, you guys having a frat party last night. Chocolate everywhere. You did it! 100 hours in a tent. How do you feel? You made it, Jesse. How does it feel to be a hero? Test the cows for pregnancy for you boys. You'll help me do that. I'm gonna fix the water line and you guys gotta start breaking down tent. I expected y'all to sleep in. 10 more minutes. It's been like over an hour. Are you boys alive? I'm gonna need some help because I'm pregnancy testing. So cold. It's about— it might be freezing. We've got our headlock. Secret to something like this is good management. Our temporary bar set up. We're gonna test our girls for pregnancy. It's not something we normally have to do, but I haven't really seen He-Man get after it, so hopefully we don't I don't have a problem. I think he's just more discreet. Come on. Hey, come on, come on. So far so good. Look at this. Lucky dog. It's working. Okay, hold the tail up please. We don't want to sit the tail down and get dirty again. There's a valley in the tail. We're gonna go just slightly right in there. Right in that valley, just slightly. This is not a lesson. This is only my second time doing this. This is me showing you what I'm doing. Oh well, okay, that was pretty good. Second time doing that in my life, and I think I nailed it. You just go barely in, right, Josiah? Yeah. All right, she's pooping. Yeah, she's stressed out. There we go. That's too bubbly. Pregnancy test. I got good feelings. You got good feelings? I'm hopeful. Smiley one gonna help out this morning? Yep. This old man doesn't like to learn new things. The Idex Alertis On Farm pregnancy test. Okay, not an endorsement, just what we're using.
Squeeze the top of this to get Does that even reach in the bottom? Yeah, we got enough of what we need. Okay, well, it said to— put all of that in there. Yeah, and we do 6 drops, so— 1, 2, and now we wait.
Okay, well, let's do the other one while we're at it.
Yep.
We need 2 lines coming in strong up top too.
Yeah. But also, let's set a timer for 20 minutes, come back, check.
That's gonna be a problem with He-Man.
Yeah.
It looks like we're starting to get a very faint line.
Maybe it's just I'm seeing what I want to see.
Ever so faint. Has it been 20 minutes yet?
No. It's like, waiting for—
All right, it's time to go check. Definitely, definitely pregnant, both of them. Look, Annie, He-Man. He-Man's living up to his namesake, and they're living up to their reputation. You know, I wonder if we did that pregnancy test wrong a lot, you know, a month or two ago, and they've actually been pregnant for a while. Woo-hoo! Continual milk, continual beef for the Rhodes family, and I'm very hungry right now. Our freezers are full now.
Yeah.
But if they don't keep having babies, we don't keep having milk and meat. What a relief! The centerpiece of our farm is keeping on cycling. Everything on this farm around revolves around those cows. Let's break down this hurricane relief tent. You gonna miss your home in 4 days? Nope. Today's episode of the Burn It Up Cooking Show: a stew. I don't think I've ever been so excited for a stew. It's been— this thing, it's not called the Burn It Up Cooking Show for nothing. Beef tallow we saved from our beef broth. 4 pounds already cut up into 1-inch cubes. Is this called sautéing? We're gonna need a little more. Oh shoot. Yeah, let that side sear real quick. Turning these with tongs. Oh yeah, is this bad? Is this the fin? I have a ribeye I'm going to cut into cubes. Probably should be saved for the grill, but it's the only thing I had thawed out. Cut off this very tough Cartilage, fat, it'll cook nice in the stew. Forget I'm not grilling. You're cooking stew steak, that would be delicious. Yeah, I cut myself. Got too excited. Johnny, you might have to help me because I busted my finger. I got one arm. What you doing? Making an egg sandwich. All right, that's pretty cool. Put some more tallow in there. This is the cooking show for the rest of us. You cut yourself sometimes, we ain't editing that out. Would we all be cannibals if Some of my blood got in the soup? Yep. Let me know in the comments. We're starting to burn it up. High heat all the time. Annie went out and got us some celery. I just need maybe 4 of those since they're so little. I didn't even know we were growing celery. Impossible. Let the guy who hasn't eaten in 112 hours cook the dinner. Pepper and salt. Good bit of red wine. All the brown bits. I want this to be really thick. So I'm only gonna add 2 more cups, then 6 cups of broth. Homemade tomato— it's calling for tomato paste, but we don't have that, so I'm going to do this in 1/3. The— it's more condensed paste, so I'm just gonna do 1/3. It's gonna put a couple of tablespoons. Annie's telling me the whole thing. It only called for like 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. 4 tablespoons tomato paste.
So I you have.
I know, I'd rather use this.
Yeah, do it.
Annie's advice when you're making stews or soup: put everything you got in there and don't measure a thing.
Yeah, that's it.
It's getting hot. We're gonna do maple sugar. I want this to be easy to digest, low carb. Two things at a time. I did it a little generous. How about a bay leaf per pound? I'll use this thick, thick sugar. Turn it down to simmer. I like a meaty soup, so we went easy on the broth. We're gonna let that cook a long time. 45 minutes before we put in the potatoes. Soup's been cooking a couple of hours. Been doing some office work. And look, look, look, look, boys! Quick, quick, quick! Hey, welcome! Even though it's so cold. I know, but it's Alabama.
I'm so tired.
It was getting cold in Alabama today. How's my princess equestrian?
Huh?
You working on your book? What's the matter? Did you wake up from your nap? Yeah. Here's my main help right here. We can get back to work now.
Hey, little munchkin. Hey, little munchkin.
Can I hold you? Let's get inside where it's warm. Here is my boy. Here is my girl. Sit and visit. Nope, nope. You don't want to sit on my lap a minute? I totally forgot to put the potatoes in. I was gonna let it cool off a little bit before dinner, supper, but meat is falling. Here, you can see that. Just dodging your head. Come on, you tired? Look at this, I'm piercing that with a wooden spatula. This thickened up very nicely. I'll say this is a good stew for my time. What do you think?
So good.
Yeah, so excited. Okay, you ready to break fast? Yeah. 120 hours. 119 technically. With broth. Does that feel good? Yeah. We addressed some inflammation. My body was in autophagy big time, rebuilding cells, resetting my digestive system, losing some weight. You got to come back easy, taking a shot of sauerkraut juice. So how is it, boys? Good. Is this like your first real meal? Yeah, they've been bachelor life in it, in the tent. All right, let's break the fast. Oh my, it's good. The flavor on this, I hated it when I was a kid, but this is something. So do you guys like it? It's pretty good. Gideon, do you like it? Yeah. Jonah, do you like it? What'd you say when you saw this, Jonah? It's like 5 out of 10. What?
What? I like it.
I've always liked stew.
You don't like stew.
I like this.
I've never made stew.
Maybe I need to go 5 days without eating. It's a one-dish meal and it all can be easily from the farm. All right, I took it easy tonight. I want to eat more, but I gotta be careful. Can already feel the belly rumblin'. It was a good time. Everybody's back. Happy day.
