Pregnant Wife Gets Better, I take a Turn for Worse

In this vlog, Justin Rhodes walks viewers through a typical morning on his North Carolina homestead while checking in on his pregnant wife Rebecca’s health. Rebecca reports better sleep after adjusting her prenatal medication, prompting a brief discussion of her dosing strategy. The family then moves through a series of farm chores: inspecting the garden, checking mineral levels for sheep, cows, and chickens, milking a single cow, and feeding livestock. Justin prepares a breakfast of duck‑fat tacos, burritos, and a casserole, highlighting his carnivore diet and liver supplement regimen, while Rebecca shares the brand she trusts for pasture‑raised liver pills. The vlog also covers upcoming livestock management plans, including harvesting a steer named Moose to reduce pasture pressure, and ideas for repurposing an old carport into a mobile milking station. Throughout, family members (children, Grandma, and a dog named Teddy) appear, adding personal moments. Justin promotes his newly launched Do‑It‑Yourself Abundance member area, offering bonuses and encouraging viewers to join. The narrative blends personal health updates, detailed farm operations, dietary philosophy, DIY construction ideas, and community building.

Looks so good out here. Glad I did that yesterday. Just makes me feel better.
Good morning.
So Rebecca, everybody wants to know, how'd you sleep last night?
Excellent. Wow, it's funny, way more excellent than I did the night before.
I didn't get much. And only 6 and a half hours, but you feel golden.
I got 2 more hours of sleep, but I also just went to bed a lot.
You're not anxious this morning? You went on a walk with me.
No, like my heart rate was normal all night. Like I didn't have—
You're not fearful of the baby?
No.
Did you change your medicine or what?
Well, I didn't take it yesterday because it was obviously too high.
So that's That's why you feel better today?
That's what my doctor has always had me do is just not take it the next— like, if I have—
okay.
If I have symptoms like that, then I just don't take it the next day.
All right.
And I'm— I did take my old dosing of medicine that I know does not cause any of those symptoms. Hey, Teddy. Hold on a second.
Teddy, off.
He's off because you're getting a new couch this week. And Teddy, you're not to be on that new couch.
He's not being—
we've had a bad habit because we don't care about this couch.
Yeah, and now the new couch is coming and he's not getting on it.
Look at this, look at this jamming kale. And look, it does look like uncovering this has helped some. We've got some plants that seem like they are going to make it. I think what we were doing is trapping the bugs inside with that bug netting. All right, this is the only thing stopping us from getting this garden completely covered up— this tendril dying. This, this, this pumpkin— pumpkin— watermelon is still growing. High tunnel's coming along. Our winter plan for our chickens, I don't know, a 4-inch layer of wood chips on the bottom keep these guys warm and moving in the winter, building up a garden area. Look at this, a nice storm door, a nice opening, a bigger door on that end for getting wood chips inside and out, in and out. Well, more in than out. Randolph's taking off today, it's, uh, Labor Day. All right, turn it on. You know, that lettuce is so good. We'll be having Taco Tuesday from that lettuce tomorrow. Look at this, everybody's got overalls on, looking nice.
Nagging chicken calls on him.
Look how well they ate this. Holy smokes. After, before. All right, let's get them over here. Good morning, luchadores. Or should I say buenos días, luchador? All right, how we doing? Good on this side, and looks like we're good on this side. It's Mineral Monday. We're checking the minerals. Boy, they're antsy. Look what he's eating. Cow would never eat that. That's why I love sheep. They just eat the weeds. Do you need help in, Lily? Check those minerals, Gideon. Tell me which ones are out. You can walk under there, just bending over.
We need black.
We need BBC. Wow, they only needed BBC. Luchadors needed nothing. Let's see what the cows need, guys. Look at those fat and happy sheep. 3 weeks, 3 weeks, you're getting mates, you're getting bred. Oh, we need salt.
You know it's coming, don't you?
Oh wow, you did it! Good job! We're only milking one cow today. Did you notice that? Flossie, we're gonna dry her off. She gets two days off. We'll milk her one more time.
You need a stool? What?
Where is the stove? Here it is, right behind you.
I miss Daddy. The stove's not even on.
Oh, it's not?
Here.
We've cooked sausage and heating up their tortillas. We got more, uh, duck fat rendering, duck skins. Those came off of a little project I'm doing. For Taco Tuesday. Duck tacos. Uh, that's kind of a byproduct of that. I kind of gambled with these burritos because actually they're still frozen, but they're, they're warming up nicely. Hear that sizzle? It's all right. Look at that, you can see it starting to defrost this thing. Still, they turn out very, very nice. That's the Seattle burrito size heat wrap, grain-free. That's my breakfast. Duck necks. These are duck necks. I like to bake them. I rendered all the, all the fat out of them, but they're delicious. It's like a pork rind, but more like a duck rind. Eggs, sausage, pork pork. This is all from our land. And a little breakfast casserole. Where's yours?
I already ate it.
Well, you're just gonna come sit with me?
I was just gonna come and sit with you.
How was the burrito?
It's delicious.
Oh yeah, people want to know if I take liver. I haven't built up to eating liver, but I do take liver pills.
I've tried. This is the best brand out there. All right, it's not sponsored, just like them. They, they are— they're, they're the best.
What's the name of it?
Perfect. And it's— and it actually happens to be the best value, but they're pasture-raised and they also do—
I just took my liver.
A lot of their stuff, they do glyphosate testing against.
So eating carnivore, that's where I'm gonna get a lot of my minerals and vitamins, right, Beck?
From liver? Yeah, so if you take 4 of these every day, it's like eating 3 ounces of liver a week.
Okay.
Because that's, that's the recommended—
because think about it, for an entire cow, the liver is like this big, right? So it's not like you should just eat liver every day, right?
So this is, this is broken up to be— to make it 3 ounces.
Well, Just finished the vlog. Rebecca's gotten a doctor's appointment. She's gone. Hopefully it's going well for her. It's time to do chores, my man. Why are you happy?
Because the cookies—
I bet he's got chocolate and peanut butter. You've done have chocolate and peanut butter. That's my kryptonite, bro.
Oh no.
You know what that means?
No.
That's my weakness.
Oh, it's so good.
I'm on the carnivore diet and Seriously, the only thing I miss— well, is, you know, maple syrup in the ice cream and chocolate and peanut butter. And he's got a combo chocolate and peanut butter. Ah, that's the only thing I miss. I gotta intro that at some point, but I still have some healing to do. You see, my back's been doing great to the last 2 nights, and I'm even having like a flare-up in my athlete's foot. I think, I think, because I had a good run, I think there might have been a time there that it didn't have any sugar whatsoever. So I think that could quite possibly be— what I mean by sugar is a little bit of honey or a little bit of maple syrup. It could be causing inflammation. it's hard to cut it out because I've already cut out— I've already cut out so much. But telling you helps. Maybe it'll motivate me to do it. And if I knew for sure that was causing the pain, it'd be no problem. But the problem is you got an experiment. You gotta not have it for a while to find out. Looky here. I cleaned this up yesterday. Corinne's job today was to to clean this up. Look at this, we can breathe out here. We silage tarped Arun's garden. Hey, you guys coming? Let's go! Oh no, she's already gotten out and in the garden. You're naughty. I'm telling you, this weather is partly why I love calling North Carolina home. It's wonderful. Been high 50s in the morning. And then just warm in the afternoon, but not too hot. Everybody come! I think they're grabbing a snack in the car. You're eating a pepper like you do an apple. That's great. I don't miss peppers. Would you miss peppers if you were a carnivore? I don't miss peppers. I only miss peanut butter and chocolate maple syrup, honey. I swear, that's all I miss. Aunt Phyllis and Moose. They still got a bond, but he doesn't nurse. We're lucky. Did I ever say— but we put Moose and Hamburger back with the moms and they aren't nursing. They're staying weaned, which is good. Now all the cows are together. Hey guys, don't treat Sally like a jungle gym, all right? Everybody remain calm. Jonah's setting up the cows. I'm gonna put up fences for the sheep. Hey Polly, hey, you'll be all right. We'll get you the sheep in just a second. Mom's right there. She's gonna be there all night. It's better than being in that stall, right? Mom looks ultra happy. You know, we separate the calf so that Mom can build up milk overnight and we have milk. She's got— she's gotten to have the milk all day long. Is that my hose right here, all tangled up in this?
Trying to get you to untangle. Oh, you want me to untangle that for me to get through with your hose?
Okay, sorry. What are you doing?
I'm gonna try to get near him, but I don't have any idea what that is. He's wild.
Hey, remind me to order some automatic waterers. Our automatic waterer has gone stripped. That's no good. Now you got to manually fill it.
Hear it? Yeah, here it comes.
Moose! All right. We're harvesting Moose Thursday. We're, you know, grass is slowing down. We don't want to overwinter him. He, uh, we don't want to feed him hay and then it's time to harvest him in the spring. We're out of beef. We need to slow down the animals on our pastures. Grass has slowed, so it's time to harvest, and I think we're going to do it ourselves. Ourselves. Are you ready to do it ourselves? Usually we hire a farm guy to come out and you're gonna have to watch some videos.
There are some parts I don't understand. I feel like you just skin the animal, cut the head off, cut the legs off, skin it, and then cut the guts out and that's what you're done.
But we learned with sheep totally on our own, so we've seen this done, I don't know, countless times. I'm intimidated because it's such a big animal. But I think that's the only way we're ever going to really learn is if we just do it.
Daddy, come and get me!
Sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep! Look at that. That's amazing. They're coming. Sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep. Come on. Now, Polly, you have companions. Look at this, they go right where the cows didn't, into these weeds. Why wouldn't you have sheep if you have cows? It's crazy. This is land that was cows, and for years we just didn't have to just come behind it and mow it. One more layer right here. So Rebecca and I were walking the other day and we saw this. This is a carport that an old tenant built that we're not— there, we're not using anymore. Uh, this is how many 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16. Probably a hair too long. What if we cut it back 2 feet? Because I think you can get 16-foot boards for skids. And what if we put skids on this? Heck, we even have the hooks to hook into our skid. Nice and cool under there. It doesn't need to be nearly as tall. So can we theoretically, theoretically just cut, cut the base off, put it on skids and go. And would Sally pull that thing? Put a crossbar across the skids for pulling. And maybe even one day the mobile milking station in here. Randolph's coming back tomorrow. I may derail him from the high tunnel project and have him help me with this. That excites me. That really excites me. Structures, mobile structures. I really enjoy building those and figuring those out. With somebody like Randolph, it happened really fast. I'm, I'm saying, oh, you know, I want to do it actually, to be honest. It's the kind of stuff I love to do, but I'm like, with chores, with editing, with launching our member area, cooking, I just don't have the time. Trying to take care of myself. All right, heat up some turkey for leftovers tonight. It's so easy. And Grandma's making green beans. About this picture, look at this picture. Does it look familiar? That's like classic Permaculture Chickens, Justin Rhodes brooder setup. A tote, a hover brooder, small water, small feeder. It's on a feed trap. Beautiful chidlers gathered around. Every day is bring your kid to work day on the homestead, isn't it? So anyway, if you guys missed it this morning— and speaking of the member area, we launched this morning. Fall registration is open now. My fall membership registration is open, guys, now until Monday at 11:59 PM, so midnight.
If—
did you miss the video? There's a warning. It's Warning video that came out this morning. This lady posted this in our member area and she said— our— this is Sarah, Sarah S. Thank you, Sarah, this is so nice. Our first ever batch of chicks arrived today. I blame Justin for this. And then people went all on all kinds of rants. I have goose, I'm getting pigs, I've got a steer, on and on, all because of Justin. This was my favorite: Justin is to blame for a lot of full freezers. I'll take that blame, but I am warning you, if you get inside this member area, chances are you've put some skin in the game. You're gonna change. Your life is gonna change. You're gonna, you're gonna start implementing some of the stuff you see me doing on the blog. You're gonna— like, she's living the blog. She's, she stepped outside of just watching the blog. They got up, got their chittlers together, and got some chicks going. You can too. I'm warning, it will happen to you. You put some skin in the game, you'll actually do this, and look what they're gonna have. They're gonna have smiling chidlers getting an experience, earning some responsibility. Mom's behind this camera smiling, so proud. And they're gonna have mucho huevos for breakfast, dozens and dozens of eggs, breakfasts over a number of years. And then they're gonna have a nice chicken and dumpling at the end, a stew, a chicken soup and, uh, broth, seemingly endless broth. Okay, I've said enough. Do-It-Yourself Abundance member area is open for a limited time. There's bonuses, all kinds of stuff. I'll talk to you more about it this week. Check that out, it's in the description, or you can go to members.abundapermaculture.com. Well, somebody turned this off for me, and I'm glad they did because I would say they're done, wouldn't you? That's turkey skin. Makes the most amazing chips. I'm gonna strain this. Fried nicely. We should salt them while they're wet. Oh my, that's how you do it. That's how you do it. Get them crispy in the oil. Rebecca's checking the vlog. I'm putting— I'm marinating. I guess— is it marinating? I don't know. I'm seasoning the duck for very special duck tacos. This is gonna sit all night till tomorrow. All right, how we doing, Grandma?
We're doing great.
Doing good.
Yeah, did you already warm them up? Yep, already.
There you go. Great gravy and turkey.
Oh cool, and we have green beans that we grew on the farm.
Nice. You're walking great.
Potatoes. Yes, I had PT today and he said I'm doing wonderful.
Good.
This is, this is a salt shaker. See, it doesn't come out very fast. You kind of have to do it a lot.
You can see it though.
Yeah, I don't see it.
It's like powder.
Yeah, I don't know. I think I should take a drill to the hole.
