Are y'all picking up your ram?
Yep.
What you making?
Gluten-free homemade bread.
What for?
Well, for Jonah tonight and tomorrow.
Jonah and I are going on adventure tonight to pick up a ram for our sheep breeding and a bull for our cow breeding. The pickup is tomorrow, but we figured we'd go up a night early, a day, you know, the night before, so Jonah could get some night hours. When it gets dark at 6:30 and we don't get there till 10, 3.5 hours, will that get you all your night hours you need? How many will you lack?
Like 3 or so.
3 more lacking. He's forgotten.
He did like 2 hours.
Yeah.
And then he did 2 hours with you, so that's 4.
The ram and the bull are both in Virginia. They're about 2.5 hours apart from each other, so the furthest one is like 7.5 hours. We might could have pulled that off in a big hard day and I'd be home at night, but we figured No, let's take it easier and get Jonah some night hours. And happy day, and welcome to another day in the life of a health adventure, eating what we grow, growing what we eat. Today we gotta go get ready to get the matriarchs of our farm. They keep it moving.
Let me be free.
Here, that's how you fold pants. What? Yeah, you can be an army man, you're gonna have to learn to fold clothes. Why? Look at that. That's how you fold clothes. Ask Big Daddy if they taught him how to fold clothes in the Marines. The problem is we found us a cleaning lady. That's a good thing though. Coming Tuesday, but we'll be driving Monday, so we got to do all this today. Look, look, look, pop up. We can put it— we can put it— let me see, let me see. Bring it.
We can put it in Jordan's bed because he can.
Could we put it out in the shed? No, no.
What?
Name of the game is to keep this little tiny dishwasher going because Our big one's broken. We're catching up. It's all we got left. I've been doing some dishes, knocking out two birds with one stone. I've been listening to the Miracle Doctor on the Diary of a CEO. She's all about fasting. I'm fasting right now, and that's helping remember— helping me remember why I'm doing this. Because I'm hungry.
They had to go find food.
Did they have Uber Eats?
They didn't have Uber Eats. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they didn't have Uber Eats. But what they did is they came out of the cave and they went to go hunt.
Camera's packed, briefcase packed, living room's clean, kitchen's clean. Guys, we just cleaned it, it was clean. Keep your floor picked up. All right, you ready to go get this cage? Look at all we were able to get picked up. Well, I looked over and Jonah has gotten the trailer attached and the cage. Nice. Here. Whoa, cleaned it up very nicely. Rubber mats in here? Yes. Okay, and you've got one shavings for the bull. You got him some hay.
You're usually not supposed to put shavings down if you have mats because then the pee just runs off and then you just pick it up with the, with the pitchfork, the poop.
Clean out the mats, or do we want to muck out Wood shavings.
I don't know.
What do we got for this guy?
We're gonna use some of those wood shavings.
I don't remember, do the wood shavings fly out while we're driving? I don't know. You snap the trailer? Nope. Yes. No. Oh, I'm glad I'm teaching you then. That would have— that totally comes off, bro. Also look underneath.
Just, you know, that one's impossible to ever do that.
Okay, we got this hooked up. Good. Very important day in our food growing journey because we are prepping to get the very beans that keep us in lamb and keep us in milk and beef. We got a problem. Trailer's not working. Trailer lights. Didn't we just replace this? Uh, Mr. Google Pants says it's got the bulbs That'd be that. What is it? Nasty. Is that hooked up? Yeah, hook it all up. Trying to take apart the box. See if it's— Jonah seems to think we got dirt. Well, let's look. Let's open this up. I've texted Mark, but I don't know if he can be here. We gotta leave in 3 hours and 15 minutes. Look who's back.
I went and got you some spring water that is Gassed.
I cannot wait till you don't have to go to the grocery store anymore.
Me too.
What are we gonna start doing? I could go once a month. Maybe in June-ish?
After—
Yeah, I think when we go hardcore and quit it completely, we can be like, yeah, we don't have to go every week. The bread you cooked for Jonah looks good. Were you gonna do a turkey? Because I need a turkey sandwich. I need to thaw some out.
Yeah, thaw some out for him.
We save some of our own turkey breasts for turkey sandwiches in case like this. How's that? We're gonna have fun. Did you get the light fixed? No. Did you get that open? No. What are we lacking?
We don't have a little Allen key.
We gotta go get one over at the shop. Maybe let's hope these are there. Yeah, there's whatever reason is a no-go. No mood to fix this. I don't know what he would do. I guess drive without it. Jonah, there you are! Do you hear me? Do you hear what I said? Yes. Why don't you want to fix it?
It's a lot more complicated in there than you think.
Aha! Found it! Found the one. I was lucky. Oh wow, they might have been completely disconnected. They just pulled right out. Our new hitch, which is an awesome hitch, is pulling it out too far, and so our cable isn't long enough. And you're making a turn, it pulls it right out.
It's the spare tire.
Well, we can't move the spare tire.
Maybe.
Yeah, spare tire is blocking it. Just did the tedious job switching that out, and it's not working. It's going.
The other one isn't.
Your door? It's going.
Yes, okay, but the other one isn't.
Okay, let's go look at it. It's not going anymore. There it goes. They're both working.
Yes!
What'd we do?
I have no idea.
Well, that feels really good. We fixed that. I think we're ready to go. All right, we're having a supper before we go. Cook that chicken perfect. She made a gravy. She deep fried the wings. Yeah, I think I'm gonna make this a 24-hour fast. I don't think I'm gonna go, and I'll do 2 24-hour fasts in a row. How about that one? Still benefit there. So I'm not gonna eat when we're on the trip. I mean, it's just easier that way, and might as well fast.
We should start eating at 3.
You like it? Kind of. Jonah, you ready for this? You want to go walking with this bird? Quick walk before we go. Hi, my man. Hey, you're the man of the house. Hey, hi. You're the second man of the house. You gonna obey Mom? Bye-bye. Tell yourself you got it. Oh yeah, it's just Mama missing. 5 and a half hours, you got the first leg. Yeah, you got this.
I think we could have done this trip in one day.
It'd have been a very hard day. We're gonna switch so Jonah can eat before it gets dark, then he'll drive again. Hey, you did good. Boy did good. You probably got about an hour till dark. I'll just drive till dark. Tired? Well, you better get some rest before you have to be driving again. That was fun while it lasted. Get traffic right away. That was short-lived. We're back moving. It's dark. What would you say, Jonah? It's your turn. Let's get some fuel and you'll drive. About put gas in the car. They have no diesel here. Whoa, I'm glad I got that. I'm so glad I caught that. Broke down. No diesel here.
It says discharge your static electricity before fueling.
Light on fire, bud.
I guess.
I've never seen that. Ready to drive? You feeling awake and aware?
Yeah.
Alright, 9 hours, here we come! How you holding up? You got 1 hour left.
I'm doing good.
Tired yet? Uh, no. It's almost 9 o'clock. Slept in on purpose this morning so that we would be able to stay awake. We have arrived at a little motel. Yeah, here we are. Classic. Man, classic.
This is exactly what is in our cabin. Like, exactly.
Yeah, you know, it's old but it's tidy. It is. It's a little hot in here. I know, leave it how it is. We're gonna go to bed. Tomorrow, the patriarchs of our farm. Happy day.
