Pro Builds Greenhouse (from Internet Plans) Says it’s Easy

In this two‑day vlog, Victor Justin Rhodes (Speaker A) documents the start‑to‑finish effort of building an Alaskan‑proof greenhouse using plans from Anna White. The video opens with a late‑arriving carpenter, Jason, and a discussion about planting early despite lingering frosts. Rhodes and his crew (Jason, Jonah, Grandma, and family members) gather materials from Lowe’s, noting missing L‑flashing and using a Kreg pocket‑hole jig for assembly. They clear surrounding brush, mow fence lines, and manage livestock (cows, pigs, and two dogs, Stud Muffin and Flossie) while constructing the greenhouse frame—installing 12‑foot ribs, ridge poles, and trusses. The narrative interweaves practical construction details (tool use, rib placement, hurricane clips, sandbags, potential rebars) with farm chores (fence repair, pasture reclamation) and light‑hearted family banter. By the end of day two, several ribs and trusses are up, the structure is weather‑sealed, and the team anticipates completing the build within a day and a half, while also monitoring livestock breeding activity.

It's, uh, 10 after 8. Our carpenter is going to show up any minute. Jason, the Alaskan-proof greenhouse by Anna White. Listen, hear that? Spring is right around the corner. We need to get a head start on our planting. It can still frost until the end of April here, but that doesn't stop us from starting seeds. Hey, hey, what's the big idea? Go for a ride, buddy. It can still frost up until the end of April, meaning you don't really need to have fragile plants, young plants, outside in that. But that doesn't have to stop us from planting and getting ahead of the game. If we have a greenhouse, we have lots of sun from the south coming in on that greenhouse, we can start things a month are so early they can be 4 weeks old, up to 4 weeks old in this, and then we transplant them. So we could start some things now-ish and plant them out just as it's starting to— just as the frost is starting to clear. Look who's here. He's, uh, he's 12 minutes late. Should I make him run the dam? Should we make him run the dam 12 times? Let's give him a hard time anyway. Hey, we've been waiting out here in the freezing cold. Huh? 12 minutes. You know what I say, you got to run the dam for every minute you're late. Morning. Good morning. I stopped at Lowe's and picked up a couple of 12-footers because I just think— oh, and you were able to fit them in here? Yeah. Okay, well, you know what, Jason, I went and got that last night, but I already know there's— we're missing an L flashing. Oh, okay. You said two, right? Yeah. I don't see them. I was hoping I was just missing it in the dark. Okay, that's no biggie. And so maybe look through this stuff and see what else we're missing. Shoot, and somebody stepped on it. Does that matter? Oh, there's two. There's two in the one. Did you step on that, Jonah? Yeah, you did. What? I didn't mean to. Oh my gosh. So do the back and then the front. Okay. So 1/17. What's this, Jason? Kreg jig, which is a pocket hole jig. Makes all these pocket holes. Okay, first putting screws in. Yeah, then you can't see them. Can't see them. It makes it more, uh, more tighter. This sort of looks like a one-man job for right now. I mean, I might need help like lifting it up. Okay, when we put it up on the sides. Okay, screw it in. But yeah, pretty much this is one man. Okay, uh, how long until that point? Um, let's see, I just have to put these together and, and do these part, maybe, maybe an hour. Okay, all right, maybe an hour or two. Sure, I'm gonna do a bit of work on the cows then. Okay, I'll be around. It's totally ready to help Jason, dedicated my day for it. It, but really I'm just standing around watching. I'm like, I gotta keep moving. Jonah, what's going on? We should have seen if the mower was even gonna start on this cold morning. You got my chainsaw pants? Okay, let's see if this whole thing will start on this 30-degree morning. I ain't gonna start. Let's just carry this stuff down there. It's not that much. All right, you got my gear? Get in. I got the saw, you got the blade trimmer, you got some hand tools. We're a sight. Okay, you guys see that? See that wood there? We need to clear that. I'll get the chainsaw, I'll cut it, you guys throw it in the woods. We got to make way for being able to mow on either side of this, okay? Keep the grass off this fence. All right, we got that cleared. I actually cleared a lot. I don't know, 150 yards on up around. I was pretty— I'm pretty happy about that. Let's go see how Jason's doing. It's about the time that he thought he needed me. Okay, what do you need? So I'll lift it up and then just hold it in place. Okay, so it won't fall. Okay, that's exciting. 12:20, 2 sides on. What next, Jason? Next we got to— there's actually a ridge pole. Okay, it goes from one end to another, and then you got to build— you got to build the trusses that go across here. Okay, you ready? You want to hold one end or me grab it? You got it. All right, hold the camera. That's pretty good. Looks good. Yeah. Hey, Mom. Hey. How excited are you? I'm very excited about the greenhouse. Oh, about the greenhouse? I'm very— oh, what else are you excited about? Life. Okay, good. What are you making us? I am making juice. I made lettuce. It's lettuce, celery, beet, carrot. Okay, well, I decided to put the cows down here because spent about an hour chasing them in the woods. Flossy got out again. I'm just— I'm done with it. Let's let them get out of heat. We'll get those fences mended and we'll get them back in. In the meantime, Jason has put up 1, 2, 3, 4 ribs on one side. You want to sleep in there? Is that your house? I do not like house. Oh, it'll be nice and warm in the— in the— when it's cold. You guys might camp out in there, who knows? Only if there's a door. Is that a door? Uh-huh. I'm not sleeping without a door. Jason's got it. It's really kind of a one-man job. I'm gonna keep working on this fence. You're glad I had Weber and you have the wheelbarrow. Yeah, there's Grandma with some supplies. We brought the goods. What do you think, Grandma? Looking good. We're gonna, we're gonna get some, uh, hurricane clips for him. Okay, good. Uh, it can be a Category 5, I'm sure. It's up to Bruce. That's what we'll have. They put some sandbags. Yeah, I think you'll be okay. And, and they But, and really they could put some rebars to keep them this way. Yeah, to pass the inspection. Bruce, to pass the inspection. So far we're good. Okay, you'll be back in an hour. Yeah. What you gonna do with that shovel? Dig. Dig? Okay. I don't think we have anything to dig over there, but we'll see. Check in with Stud Muffin and Flossie. I was thinking for a minute he was done because he was laying away, but he's not. He's, he's going, he's sniffing her right now. So they haven't done it yet. Hope we can catch that just to confirm, but based on the way things are going, it's probably going to happen tonight. There, he's got his teeth. Thanks for bringing the seat. Well, we got that done. I'm very happy about that. We just got to get some of the finer stuff off the poles, mow a strip on both sides, then we can hook up a wire. Then we have a small section to run right there and then down to the field. But look here, look at this, look at the work that's set before us. And the pigs that are coming in April. I'm thinking that's a good job for the pigs, huh? Yeah, we've got about an acre or two that is growing back, that with a potential pasture here. You can kind of see it back in there. This is crazy. There's some pasture back in there, but we're gonna have to reclaim it. All right, let's get all we can in Gideon's truck. Okay, I see he's already got some firewood in there. That— he might have a load then, Jonah. How's it going over here, Jason? We're still doing those, uh, ribs. Taking longer than you thought? Yeah, this is probably the most tedious part, I think. Ribs. You got the ribs on one side? On one side, yeah. Okay, doing all those, and so I'm doing the next side. It's probably gonna speed up now. Yeah. Okay, this is terribly interesting. We put the caps up, Jason's still working on the greenhouse, Foxy's over here, and Stud Muffin's way over there. She's breathing hard. Did it happen, guys? Like, he's totally not interested in her all of a sudden. Her back is wet. Did you just get bred? I wonder if she just got bred. We'll see, we'll see if he keeps bothering her. We'll see if in 3 weeks she comes into heat again. It's marked down this day. I think they did the deed, Jonah. Really? Well, he's not around her at all. He has no interest anymore. Okay. She's breathing hard like she's been standing there working out with a bull on top of her. Oh no, here he comes back. Okay, it hadn't happened. She must be breathing from walking away from him for 3 days. Nope, false alarm. It's coming back. He's back. Oh, he's back. He's back. You think it's gonna happen, Rebecca? I thought— she just won't stand. Nope, just not ready. I thought for a minute they had done it because he was 100 yards away. God forbid. Boom. Not today, huh? Not today. Not today. Almost, almost. But that's a good day. Yeah, good day of working. It's a full day. Good. And this is, uh, Day 2. 2 full days so far, right? Yep. Okay, and hoping to get it done in another day and a half. Yeah, next week, I would say, uh, Tuesday. That's the goal. Okay, this is good. This looks good. You got any thoughts on it so far? No, I— it was pretty easy. I mean, this was the more tedious part, making all these trusses. Okay, but, uh, but fairly, fairly simple, fairly, fairly easy, I think. Okay, thank you, Jason. It's the next morning, and I think it might have happened last night. I think Stud Muffin and Flossie might have made it. He doesn't seem as interested in her. Hey, did y'all do the deed last night? I don't know, we'll see in 3 weeks.
