Rush! Final Inspection Today

Victor Justin Rhodes documents the final inspection of his homestead before move-in. The inspector finds two critical issues: a hole in a brick wall and exposed water lines. The crew has until 3:30 PM to fix them, racing against the clock with family members to insulate, seal, and prepare the house.

Beef brisket. Forgot to set anything out last night. Hopefully I can flash defrost this for a couple hours and then get it started. You know, He-Man, he's looking kind of thin too. He didn't lose his coat, he's thin. One of our cows is 6 months not been bred. Got to spot the fence right now, it's not on. Kind of suspecting it might be him. So I might get that ball rolling. Don't cry over spilt milk on a permaculture homestead because the dog just gets it. It's been almost a year and a half building our homestead dream house. Today, 8 days before we hopefully move in, we get our final inspection, which gives us the legal right to move in. Inspector comes early. So early it's still cold outside. Strolls around, does his thing, and we failed on two accounts. One, we needed to insulate a hole in the brick wall. Two, we need to insulate our exposed water lines underneath the house. So he sees we're working and he says, you fix those things by 3:30 today, takes me pictures. I'll pass you. What are you doing? All these plastic things were on there, they were gonna light on fire. I know, right? And then that was on. That's why I took them off. One really cool thing that Mom has done, she's got all these lights to where you can have a setting where they don't have blue light in them. And so at night we can just start winding down our brains. Look, the oven works. All right. You need to put the right time on. It says 7:40. We are 9 days from moving in to our homestead dream house. It's finally here. About a year and a half. I said to Rebecca, if you would have known how much it would have cost and how long this would take, would you have done it? She said probably not. It's probably good we didn't know or we wouldn't have done this. And this is going to be really nice and we're going to enjoy it for the rest of our lives. Our oven wasn't shutting and we saw it was hitting this. I lifted it up a little bit and I think it's— I think it's working now. Put these lights on a brighter lighting, see if See if it's better for filming. We're gonna be filming a lot over here. The rest of these vlogs, y'all. There, that's it. Leave it. Wow, it's gonna be easy to film in here. Listen, don't touch the walls or anything. The painters are done. The floor guy is coming the day after tomorrow, the next day. You know there's a word for that? Overmorrow. So the, the floor guy's coming overmorrow. So let's go through and get all the trash up, boys. Boys, boys, let's get everything off the floor. Or don't listen to me. As long as I stay away from those windows. In my filming, it's gonna look really good. Gentlemen, let's, let's get all this up. Let's get our trash bags and wait, let's get that paint over to the cabin. Why don't we start downstairs and then when somebody hits the wall we can paint over it? Yeah, that's what it's for. I hesitate to do downstairs because, well, we could put it in the closet. Yeah, let's not go for the easiest thing. No, I'm actually not joking. I actually would like to do that. Wait, or maybe that's attic storage. Maybe. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I think it's fitting. Yeah, hold on. No, no, we're not gonna bang on the ladder. We're gonna do it maybe an assembly line. My desk is gonna sit right there, and then I see myself putting up a webcam right here, one of my main cameras. Oh yeah, look at that. Look at that depth. We can do our live shows and stuff right here for the members. We have places to store things. Take out the RAM board while you're up there. Yeah, I just want a good look, good look at this again. This makes me happy. And actually, the camera would probably be more like this. Wow, I like all that depth. Viewers can see a little bit of time of day outside. The family can be fooling around and nobody even know it. Super good with all the books. In the background, that light is super cool. Even at that color. I'm excited. We just had a flurry of activity, a flurry of inspections. Water working, warm water. Gas is on. We had gas inspection, we got that turned on. We had the final inspection, which we're gonna pass with some caveats. We got a little bit of homework to do. We can text our proof. Rebecca's at Lowe's right now. We've got to cover the— show you all that later today. Underneath the floor are some water, water lines that should be insulated, which we don't want those freezing. So it's a good call if we passed, if we insulate the water lines. Mom's gonna get it in town, right? She's there right now at Lowe's. That means tonight you can legally sleep in here. We should have a campout. How bad do we want to get out of that little house? Okay, we're going to leave this down. Well, no, the both inspectors came today. We're expecting nobody else until the floor guys, so we could pull this up. What is the deal? Why they didn't— Yeah, why is it in the ground? Should I get Mom, get us a razor blade? Maybe a razor blade. Oh, there's that box cutter out on the porch just side. Now the name of the game is get as much cleaning as we can get done so we can get the cleaning crew in and out as soon as possible. Billy, be gentle and slow. Don't scratch up the paint. When they pulled the plastic protector off that glass, it's like wedged into the corners. You are getting it. It's starting to look a lot better. It's a pain. Okay. All right. No. Yeah, you found a crack in the glass. Did we do that or was that there? Uh, No telling. It's expanding, isn't it? I can't even see it. It's right there. It looks like a little scratch. We need to put a piece of tape over that so it stops. Yeah, all it takes is you coming through here slamming this door really good one time. We're gonna start pulling up floors. We're in trouble. This tape is sticking to the tile. We had this problem with the wood floors over there too. That's why the second time we put down the— this stuff, we didn't tape it at all. Did that help to wet it? Not really. Not really. What are we gonna do? Look at this. This is for real. He wants to do one more coat. He's just a real good floor guy doing a thorough job. This stays. That's for our barn door. Hey y'all, we're real close to passing this inspection. We've got till 3:30 to send these pics. Congratulations for what? Passing. We could sleep in there tonight if we wanted to. Wait till you see it, we've been cleaning it up. Make sure you use the 3/4 inch for the 3/4 inch and a half for the half. It's gonna be awful, but we can do it. It's not gonna be that bad. Oh my gosh, all hands on deck, uh, Randolph. Just the blue pipe, Jonah, in the insulation. What do we do about that? Well, then it's safe there. The inspector thought we could do this in 45 minutes. Let's see. Just get on top of this. Got us a ladder. Jonah's got us from right here all the way over. That means that's all we've got left, guys. Here we go, let's get the picture. All right, let's go foam this, Josiah. Last thing. Oh wow, we gotta spray in this. Okay, but then we gotta fill up that hole. So eventually, once she wants that stuccoed Yeah, but for today we're gonna just do this foam just to pass inspection. Just a little bit, it expands. That's enough. Do the bottom now. Yeah, it's got to be visible. I wonder if you hold it— you got to hold it up or what? Not very sticky. It will get sticky. There you go, it's working. All right, let me do it. Just realized if we've got CO, the sauna and the bath— was the sauna hooked up? I know the ice bath is ready. I'm sorry, the ice bath is not ready. The regular bath would be ready. It's been so— I guess we never thought this was gonna happen. Is the sauna ready? It's hot! Are you sure? Which setting was it on? It should get crazy hot. You shouldn't be able to touch it. That's pretty hot. That's pretty crazy hot. Let's see if the sauna turns on. Got the lid off. Let's put the rocks in. Steam. You got the rocks in there. Is it heating up? This is a steam sauna, so you have the heat there and you just pour water on that. It steams, which makes it feel hotter. We got a humidity measure and a thermometer. Heck yeah! I miss sauna. We used to sauna every night. Good detox, good relaxing in the evening. Is it still coming out mega hot? It's unbearable for me. That's good. Oh boy, green beans, meat, and potatoes. That's a homestead meal right there in the back. We passed inspection. The sauna is not hooked up yet though, so we're not going over there tonight. I don't think they're coming till Monday, so we're in the bath in the back. For a few more days. You can still bath in the big house. It's not— no, we can't really bath together over there, can we? There's two bathtubs. You use mine, Papa. No, it's not the same. No, you already started a safari. Well, tomorrow. No, no, let's just finish strong. Tomorrow, 7 days, 1 week until we move in. Happy day.
