Setting up a Tiny (700 sq/ft) Farm House for SEVEN

A family of seven moves into their 700-square-foot farm house and tackles immediate priorities: installing a water filter, fixing leaks, and organizing before moving day. They're growing their own food, training kettlebells, and managing the chaos of seven people in a tiny space.

Lily, get away from the door. It's not gonna speed him up. Bathroom traffic jam. We have one bathroom, 7 people. That's the cool thing about these kettlebells is it's a very mobile gym. La la la, let me be free. I just did the whole 72-pound swings, 5 sets. That's the height that Simple and Sinister training. It's taken 2 and a half years. I don't know if it's in spite of moving over here or as a result, but I'm as strong as ever. My great-grandpa with a team of oxen working at an orphanage in Black Mountain. He was cool as heck. That's gonna have to be the motto today as we're displaced. Actually, no, the motto needs to be eat what we grow. I think we're stabilized. Enough in this— hey, what's wrong? Come here, let Mom do her thing. I don't know why I say that. Exercise a voice. I think we're stabilized enough that we can start having more proper meals utilizing what we have grown on the farm. We had a low last night eating pizza bites for dinner. Mozzarella cheese slice, pepperoni, ricotta— nothing from the land. Give ourselves some grace. I remembered to set out the roast this time. A lot on our minds. I got too quiet in there. You guys in there? You all right?
Yeah.
What are y'all doing? They're in the bath with some balloons. We could eat eggs just straight up once a day, part of the main meal, but Rebecca says no. We are hopefully less than 2 months moving into our dream homestead house. Hey, let's just make it work because the insurance company is paying somebody to pack up all our stuff. Got the footage off for you guys to Austin. Now I need to gather Rebecca for early morning trip to supplement our farm food.
Hey, we made it through the night!
You live to see another day!
So glad I made that extra tea because it was like full when I left. Is basically gone.
You nailed it. Hey, what's going on? I can't get in. Look at you, made the bed. You on the phone? This is not a good bed to do that in. Kind of hard at first.
Made it through the night.
Wow. Oh, we live to see another day together. What?
He did it.
He made it through.
Bye, y'all.
Keep the house clean. Don't burn it down. It's the only one we got left. Dad joke! What would you say the toughest thing about our life situation is right now?
I think it's just like the upheaval of our routine.
I'm gonna hone in on that one. Just losing— just trying to find stuff.
Yeah.
Just like a knife. Yeah.
When we moved from our house to the cabin, it was like a 6-week process of us planning and packing, and it was like— no, You're moving now.
He don't even hear you.
Hey, what are you doing?
Who's tearing up the bank? Now I did hear you telling the doctor something I reminded you of is I'm reading You Are the Placebo. Change is good for your brain. Yes, your healing process.
Saying that, you keep saying that to me, that this is good for us, this is good for us, and that's great that it's good for us, but I just gave Randolph a list.
We need a light in the living room, we need a reverse osmosis water filter, new faucet, sink. These are some of the most prioritized things. I've been disrupted, but we're just dealing with it. The best possible attitude's possible. You're getting some kitchen supplies?
Yeah, I just need like the bottom thing.
That's the bottom, isn't it? What? Oh no, no, I know what you need. You need to trade it.
I mean, like, if they sell this thing—
yeah, this thing, you might have to get Amazon.
There you go.
What's this?
Could have saved a lot of money.
It's probably not real tile. It's not. Next up, grocery store, and this time it's everything to supplement the farm food we have. This is cool, it's a co-op. And they're selling plant starts. Broccoli, because it's seasonal locally. It could have been something we would have grown, and it goes good with egg dishes like quiches. Broccoli is— well, it is something we could have had in a low tunnel all winter and harvested all winter long. She went for our normal, then I was like, shouldn't I just get some that's ready to go? Like, we're gonna choose our battles right now.
Let's put that right back.
She put it right back. The breakfast burritos. We're gonna eat those eggs. We're gonna eat those eggs. There's another shortcut. Yes, dessert for Mexican night.
I'm gonna make vanilla ice cream, vanilla ice cream, and then crumble that on top of it. If you've never done that, you are missing out.
I like how we're getting things that complement what we're growing. Well, $500 later, what would we do if we weren't growing our own meat?
We'd have to get another job.
I'd have to do 7-day-a-week vlogs. That's why we're doing this. That's not an option for us. We have to be healthy because we were trying to save money.
I know, and we couldn't afford good meat, so we ate pork.
We went vegan for us too long. Don't harp on yourself if you're not growing all of your own food. I mean, who is? Don't be too hard on yourself because we're like, hey, we're growing our eggs, we're growing our dairy, we're growing our meat, and you may just be growing a few eggs or a basil plant. Hey, we got our light ready. How's it going in here? I guess. Okay, a little harder than you thought. Yes, of course. Took a lot longer than we thought. We thought we'd be home at 11:30. It's 1. We did the convenient thing. Next up, how we're gonna eat all together at the table. One problem at a time, huh? Watch this. This wasn't happening yesterday. Watch. I said, how'd you fix that, Randall? My goodness. I guess, I guess you got lucky.
It's so funny because I thought I'm just gonna turn it off, that switch, because if it doesn't do anything—
He's clearing out for our, uh, our water filter. You salvaged our faucet. This thing constantly leaks.
I know, but you'll put the reverse osmosis here, right?
Yeah. Okay. Our home, while we build our dream home, is out of commission a couple of months, so we're not moving back in. We didn't have a ceremonious last night. We've been needing to go through this closet anyway.
No, that's why it hasn't been gone through.
It took something to make us do it because we don't want to take any junk over to the dream home. Okay, what are we, a third of the way through? We did one wall, we got a blinkin'— we're in a disco. How you feeling?
The worst.
We gotta quit telling ourselves that.
I don't enjoy this.
Hour and a half later, we did it. Annie is having a blast mulching the fruit tree.
I guess.
What kind of mattress is this?
It's, um—
I'm sure it's the best.
It's an organic— no, it's a kid's mattress.
Whoa.
I told you.
Where's— cool.
So where's my—
it's vacuum sealed. What's the name of it?
It's called My Green Mattress. They have like a kids mattress. Does this not fit in this or does it need to be moved?
Oh no, is it like your blinds? You don't want to show the blinds? Down the middle. A little short.
It's in the same lines as those.
Nacho turned out splendidly. He is fall off your bone— off the bone. Got it out of the broth, which clutch, shredded it, added a little bit of the fat and broth. Not to be a soup, but just to be a little greasy. It was delicious. I nailed it. It was super easy. You just have to remember to lay out the meat. New faucet, our new used faucet, and our filtered water. We did not get a table yet. We did get bunk beds in the kids' room, and we can actually walk through it, and we can actually access the closet. Mom got them these hanging shelves That's coming in clutch. There's probably some dead space we can deal with back there. I'm happy. And with that, happy day.
