Side By Side stuck! Tractor to the Rescue

Victor Justin Rhodes and his team tackle a muddy day on the farm: moving wet animals, attempting to milk a cow in the rain, and freeing a stuck Side-by-Side from deep mud. They cook boiled eggs, salami, naan, dal, and chicken with help from Lily, Arun, and Rebecca.

Look at that, there's your boots. Okay, right where you left them. Next time leave them up on the porch, eh? But wait, there's a stick. Okay, well, we have a hitch on this thing for such a time as this. The cows are there at the farthest part of our property. It's beautiful out here, but I will be glad to get closer to the house. We're gonna have to drag them— the shed back and lead them back to the sheep, and then maybe we can go right here, right above the chickens, and we can get out into this pasture. It's raining. Let's get you guys in the dry.
We're making this place dry.
Oh good. We'll get these guys fed today. Chicken and squash. You guys are just waiting out for the skim milk though. They will eat that. They're just making sure we don't have any skim. I already put it in there, guys. I mixed it in there. I'm gonna— I'm gonna be glad we had this little rain shelter here in a second. Hear it coming down.
Oh my gosh.
Well, I didn't know if she'd be able to reach downhill and still get her alfalfa. She can get it fine still, huh? Aroon, all our children are gone home. It's a little rough for them, so we're gonna brush her off first. Might as well teach her how to milk. First time milking, or is it? Oh, it's hard. It's more squeezing than pulling. Oh, okay. So you kind of cut off at the top. You cut off and then squeeze. See, I'm just— I'm not even pulling.
See that?
I'm squeezing. Look who's here. You want some relief? The power went out. Oh, it did?
Yeah.
Our generator's running, are coming. Yes. Yeah, it doesn't matter to us anymore. She kicked the bucket, but that, that's why we brought the extra bucket. It's kind of convenient though, the pigs are right there. Uh, we did have some in our reservoir, so it's not all lost. All those pigs are happy, buddy. That ain't even shit milk, that's whole milk. Oh, they died and gone to heaven here for about 3 seconds. And another cool thing about this mobile situation is she spilled the milk, it's on the pasture. There's no hosing this down. This is a problem, this downhill milking is not working. So it's not good because her feet have to sit so forward, she moves to get the feed. Brune has set the feed up on a bucket and that helps, but he has to spot it. I think next time We would just have to spin this thing around or something. If it's not raining, we could have run her head through that way. Oh yeah, you see what I'm saying? We could put the feed there and who cares if she's— you know, it doesn't matter which way she goes. Yeah, you just need the milk. Yeah, it's just that it was raining so hard. Lily and I are finishing off the milking. Arun's Trying to get the sheep through. Sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep! Come on! Oh look, let me just watch this, Lily. Come on in, guys. Good job. Lily's training them to alfalfa. That's going to be key, Lily, to getting them anywhere we want on the farm. We're all good in the front, but then I'm definitely definitely gonna hit that with the tin. I have got to cut up— oh no, you didn't put it in the loop. Oh, okay, that's why. I think I need to reposition and get more angled up. Actually, I probably think I need to just hook the one corner and pull that corner up. That didn't work simply because we weren't gonna miss the tin.
Whoa, I'm on it.
Okay, so we're gonna back it up, and I'm gonna try to go a little higher. Oh my word, I don't know if this is gonna work. This felt so slippery. So we're gonna hopefully pull it back, way back to there, and try again. We gotta get as high as we can right here. We were on a roll and then we hit this little stump. This is so unbelievably shallow and slippery. Mud is just right underneath. Look at this, look at this. We'll back it up. It's a little tricky, it's going sideways. I'm— maybe so we'll back it up and maybe we'll bring it through here. And if Arun pushes, there's no stumps or anything in the way. Yeah, let's just go below this. So Yeah, let's go. Making that noise too. So I'm going to take it down and try to get it more pointed straight up, and then it might have you push if I start going uphill.
Okay, let's try it again.
One more time. You ready to push? 1, 2, 3.
Good try.
I don't want to tear up the pasture anymore. It's not going to work. Let's go get— let's get the milk in and then let's get the tractor. And it's slippery without anything attached. I've got the milk in the cooler, got the Suburban up, got it hooked up to the tractor. Tractor wouldn't start. All right, just needs a moment, I guess. Pressure, push a little bit car, like, uh, yes and no on that. That does help, but that doesn't. It's something. It's help, but it makes us feel like we're doing something anyway. All right, he's gonna rev up the engine. Oh well, we need to unhook We need to unhook the plow. That was not dramatic. Come on, let's go and do it.
Good job.
Okay, Becky, it was a wet mess out there. I'm so hungry. Um, I do have boiled egg. Rebecca got us some organic salami. This is gonna be a quick fix on today's episode of Burning Up Cooking Show. Boiled eggs, salami, and, uh, a bit of cheese, and eat as many of those as I need.
That's quick.
What if it rains forever? Well, that's cozy now. It is. It's a very snowball staying cozy.
Yeah, well, it's like gonna be cold today. It's gonna be like our high is supposed to be 60 and then rain all day supposedly.
So I'm, uh, editing. You can hear the generator still. Power's been going on and off. Look at this, guys. You guys are learning animation for their videos, man. Those guys, they're gonna know more than me. They probably already do. Technical stuff. Tea party?
Yeah.
I don't know if you can hear the humming. Maybe we'll go get a shot of it. We are editing, the lights are on, we're cooking, the Cummins generator is going. This is nice, huh, Rebecca? This is like our first official power outage. Look at this lady, she's in the mood. What are you in the mood for, darling?
Well, since we're doing Indian Tuesday— I love you too, baby. We're gonna do, uh, naan.
For those that don't know, this is beautiful naan. Eat what you love, Daniel Walker. The Indian turned out nicely. Dal, chicken. How'd your naan turn out? Or is it naan?
Naan turned out good.
Okay, well, that's it. Well, did it really?
Yeah.
She's not gonna tell you guys. She's not gonna tell you. I'll tell you. There's a little episode of the Burn It Up Cooking Show in here. Right there.
So—
It's not beyond you.
No, it's not, but that happened and then this too.
I had it on low. It even happens to the best of us, doesn't it, Rebecca?
It was on low.
The burning up chicken show.
It wasn't even past the 20 minutes that it was supposed to cook.
Even for the experts.
I smelled and I thought, what is that? I think there's something wrong with the burner.
Everybody's happy?
Yeah.
Everybody likes it? Yeah.
I'm happy as a pig with skim milk.
