Chapters
Good morning, little person.
Can I have a kiss?
You know the company we use to host all of the Abundance Plus stuff? The app, the coordinating the app with the website. For any geeks out there, it's called an OTT platform. Stands for over the top. That's the same kind of platform that Netflix has. Disney Plus, Discovery Plus, all those things. Relight my morning. Electrolyte from Redmond's. We've gotten their attention. The CEO and their film video guy— I guess they have the full-time guy that does stuff like that— is coming and doing a story on us because We've been so successful there. I say we, 'cause I'm talking about you. We wouldn't be so successful getting their attention without members. My hunch is we're probably one of the bigger clients with 14,000 members. They're gonna wanna film us doing our chores. I guess we're kind of a unique and different kind of story. I think a lot of their clients are like in the health space and stuff. Kind of normal stuff. So this is kind of unique. That's actually Ben Roberts. You'll recognize him from the Rooted film shoot. They have hired him as a videographer. That's cool, kind of hire a local. They're coming from Maryland, I think. Maryland, somewhere around there. What?
There's more days until my monster truck comes.
Is he getting a monster truck? What's this talk about a monster truck? Man, you're getting soft.
No, I'm not soft. This is from a very long time ago, and he just never dropped it.
What are you feeding him?
Feeding him?
He never forgot about it?
He never forgot about it.
So you finally got him a monster truck?
I finally have had time to think about it.
It comes Wednesday.
Yeah, I don't know if it's—
Well, I hope they don't film this porch. Okay, what is this, Jonah? This is cool. So you, you just bent a cattle panel up and then you just cut cattle panel sides. Does it work? Have you seen if it works yet?
Yes, they've been eating out of it.
Nice. Used it from this cattle panel, this long cattle panel. Okay, between you and I, I'm gonna try my best not to say anything to him. I really wished he would have used this. I'm pretty sure we have shorter cattle panels. Now that whole long cattle panel— I'm happy that he, that he built that hay rack. That's awesome. I made sure he wasn't around. I don't want to defeat him because that's pretty cool that he's, uh, contributing to the farm like that. It's easy to find the, the bad. Like, our minds are trained to look for what's wrong and not what's good. So I'm gonna try to focus on that. And heifers got out. Jonah, will you go help your mom? That's not gonna end well. They're calling me to shut the gate. Not a bad idea. The crew's here. I, uh, had them stand right there to help corral the calf. The heifers and the luchadors. Got the hay. Let's help them get these in. Honore, little boogers. Get taste of freedom. Don't want to go back in. She knows where to go. Lily and her lamb. Lily, you stay there. Keep her from going in the field. Look, they're gonna get initiated right here. I see your cowboy skills. They didn't know call time was herding cows. So Daniel and PJ. Okay, nice.
Yeah, nice to see you. Nice to see you.
All right, I'm gonna have you stand right here, PJ, and then Daniel, you stand right there. So you come over even more, PJ. There you go. Put your hands out when they come. We got a line right to it now. All right, let's get them going again.
Come on, come on, come on.
You got a little taste of the freedom. I need a staff. Here, let me see that. Hey, would this alfalfa be too easy? You gonna try the alfalfa, Jonah? Oh look, it's gonna work on Maple.
Maple seems like she's all interested.
Here we go. Look, Polly's interested. Polly, come on. There we go. That's too easy. That doesn't make for a good vlog. What's the goal today, guys?
Have some fun, tell some stories.
Okay, good. Cold plunge in your creek.
Oh yeah, no, no, I don't want to do it.
He wants to do it. You want to what?
Milk some cows.
Okay, you'll get it, get it. Y'all came from Maryland?
Yeah, Huntsville, Alabama.
Okay, nice. That's where I live. I'm from Atlanta. Okay, nice. They got another crew. Hey guys, let's, let's get the heifers. They're gonna have to meet with Ben and brainstorm and all that, so let's get some more of this piddly stuff done. I'm super excited to be telling these stories to this crew. This is a totally different audience. This is gonna be going out to like a solo entrepreneur type of audience. Actually, I'm coming to realize and teach we're all one people. We can be excited about entrepreneurship. And excited about homesteading and excited about Seinfeld or Nacho Libre or the latest fiction book that has nothing to do with homesteading. It's okay. We're whole people with all kinds of different desires and likes and dislikes, frustrations. You know, I have a love-hate relationship when things go wrong like that with the heifers. On one hand It's terribly embarrassing and annoying and hard to film. Hey babe, let's call her babe. I'm distracted. I don't want things to go wrong. I actually get embarrassed when they do, especially with the film crew here and then you guys. But I've come to realize that is what makes it interesting, and meeting a lot of you people That's what you guys end up— should we go on? That's what a lot of you end up relating to, because we all make mistakes. Cows, chickens, they all get out no matter how good we are. And everybody feels foolish and like, this shouldn't happen, and I wish this were going smoother. And hopefully I just document that for y'all. It makes one person feel better and more empowered because they, they, they feel in good company with the mistakes and the the troubles they're having on the farm. They feel in good company. I've won. I'll get ugly comments too, uh, you know, inevitably when you are vulnerable and show your failures and mistakes, you're gonna have ugly comments. But I don't do it for them. I do it for the most of you. The majority of you, I love and appreciate you. Thank you so much for all your support. That's a virtual Uncle Justin hug right there, y'all. This is going to be an audience that has nothing to do with homesteading, so we're kind of getting, you know, I don't know, people are going to understand or need to see us sprinkling wood chips over poop. And I doubt we're going to talk about that, so let's just document really exciting, recognizable things like milking the cows, putting the feed to the chickens, those kinds of things. I haven't been doing chores with TJ, the CEO. You ever fed chickens before? No. Well, you look super pro, man.
But I'm taking the eggs. Yeah, I know how to take the eggs.
Okay, well, we'll, we'll peek at the eggs next. We've got to take out these mats carefully. And you see what's on there? Evil chicken poo. But when you put it on the deep bedding, it's holy chicken squat.
Just like that.
Yeah, and dump it out. Good, good. It does work better with gloves. Good for you. I bet you'll find some eggs in here. All right, the sheep have gotten out. What, what happened? Was it not Shut, latched. Well, he's got the Alfalfa. We went straight to the Alfalfa this time.
Yeah, yeah, just easy.
You saw how it worked with the— which way you going, bro? You going behind? Okay, I see what he's doing. He's bringing them on the inside. There you go. Good job, buddy. All right, Lily, he's, he's raring to do this. How long you been waiting to do this? A while. Jump right in. Okay, like this, you just grab it and growl. Is it everything you thought it would be, PJ? Mm-hmm. I think I got it. You're getting it. Took me an hour to milk her out the first time. You taking turns with your film man, huh? Look at this. I like— see, he knew he needed a cloth. Look, he's got milk on his hands. Oh yeah, Rebecca's making us a chicken soup. Y'all ever had raw milk before? No, I come from Wisconsin.
That's a sin.
You can't be From Wisconsin, that's probably not the case. All right, cheers, y'all.
Look, guys, fresh milk.
Let's see what you think. It's like whole milk on steroids. It's great. So much better than that.
It's delicious.
It's probably one day old is probably what you're drinking.
That is really good milk. I really enjoyed that.
Good. This is the CEO of Uscreen. That's who we use. That's our platform for Abundance Plus, our member area. We couldn't do what we do without them. I'm like, can we do a podcast? He's like, yep, my sound guy's available. Ben's here for the cameras. We're getting a TV so that we can monitor the cameras without having to walk back and forth, and we can see it on a big screen so that we can see if people are in focus or not.
What are you doing?
Drinking hot chocolate.
Well, you know, this is our— this is my chance. I want this podcast to be more— I talked about it earlier— well, more than just homesteading. This is a guy that has no experience with farming or homesteading, but this is a guy who is first-generation immigrant. He identifies as a Persian, so that's from Iran. I think I said that right. Forgive me if I didn't. And now Persian. Yeah, just say Persian, she said, because he identified as Persian. So, uh, first generation. So he came over with his parents and now he's the CEO. Uh, this is gonna be an amazing story. All right, I call time for interview. Film days are a lot of fun. I liken them to summer camp. When you go to summer camp, you get totally immersed and you kind of forget about the world at large. You— it's a real live escapism, and that's what this feels like. It's fun. Look at this setup. All right, we just shot that video. I got to talk about our, well, content creation story, the business story, and I definitely think most if not all of this stuff will be public, so I'll definitely let you guys know. About this. It's kind of the business story behind, uh, our YouTube success and Abundance Plus. It's been kind of fun to mix it up. Meanwhile, Mama crushed it in the kitchen. Chicken soup, potatoes, gluten-free biscuits. I know y'all like it, huh?
Yeah.
Yeah. How is it?
It tastes good.
Don't have that soup yet.
This is probably the best mashed potatoes and bread I've had.
She knows how to crush it. You wouldn't know that was gluten-free biscuit, would you?
No.
It's delicious.
It's so good.
You could tell how fresh the ingredients are. Yeah, it tastes very different than food we eat elsewhere, even from the grocery store.
Yeah, you're gonna go away feeling energized.
Yeah, very different than grocery store food.
Is that right, Ben? I'd say so. We eat good here, don't we?
Oh yeah, I'm so spoiled at this point.
And then she fed us brownies and homemade ice cream. Totally forgot to get the shot of that. Here it is. Jonah's got to get some. Mmm. So how was it? Homemade homegrown ice cream. It was amazing. Amazing. I feel full. You ever had that before though? Homemade ice cream?
I have, yeah.
Homegrown? I don't know, maybe not.
Delicious.
Yes, very. And that brownie? You ready to go?
Delicious.
So what are you going to talk to me about, PJ?
We can talk about all the fun stuff around you finding Uscreen.
Okay.
Money stuff, money talks.
Okay, good. That's fun.
Empowering the creators, getting them to understand, uh, what it takes and what the potential is, the challenges.
I like it. Just got done with the second interview. What do we got here?
An electric bike.
What? The dude made an electric bike. That's cool. He, he ordered an electric motor for his go-kart and it didn't work, so he tried on the—
that's cool.
The kid built an electric bike. And it smokes. Now I've decided any chance I get somebody interesting comes on farm and we can, we're doing a video podcast. So we're done getting their content, we're gonna get mine now. Hey Matt, Ben, y'all met? Oh yeah, yeah man, I mean we're in good hands today. What's new to this production is a screen. So he can bounce and not have to walk around, check cameras. How do you think the podcast went? It was amazing. You guys were listening? It was great. It was so good. Okay, did you learn anything about your boss? You're gonna hold it against him?
Awesome.
Maybe. I can't wait. He says maybe he's gonna hold it against him. It's called leverage. That's a good way of putting it. This is the first Persian I've ever hung out with. And it was great, and you represent well. Good times. I would love to meet your family and friends. Definitely. Yeah, I'll come back with Master.
She'll really enjoy it. We're gonna start a farm together.
Yeah.
And thanks for the business advice and the words you had running like 130 employees. It's a fascinating story. I can't wait for it to drop.
I can't wait to listen to it myself.
You need to listen to it.
I think it'll be good.
The little bit that I heard, the one minute, you have to listen into it. All right, let's see you guys. Thank you. Hey, good looking. Hey, what you got cooking?
I got lamb burgers in there. I just fried them up. I should have grilled them. It's so greasy with the lamb. And then we've got some tzatziki sauce, salad, feta cheese. I want to make feta from our cow's milk. It's on my to-do list. And homemade salad dressing. It's our classic Greek dinner.
Classic. Thursday is—
Thursday is lamb.
The average American eats 0.6 pounds of lamb a year, and we eat that in a week on average. I think it's— well, we eat 250 pounds a year, so divided by— yeah, 50. How many of them are— 8 of us?
5 pounds.
5 pounds.
So we eat a little over a pound.
We're bringing that average way up. It's delicious because we, we eat that in a week. Yeah, the average American eats in a year.
See this? Yeah, we found the brake piece. You gotta stick a cord through here. It's basically a bike brake. Then when you pull the lever, yeah, it's supposed to squeeze it.
Okay.
And then it goes over this piece on the wheel and it stops.
This is for your go-kart? Yeah, because we ordered the brake kit, but I'm sure there was more than that. Did we not order the brake kit?
There's one more piece. Yeah, and it broke.
Well, we'll have to order it. Now wait a minute, his— he got that bike going in a day. Yeah, does that tempt y'all to abandon ship on the go-karts and just go for bikes?
I just want to make one. I just want to make mine.
I like that you're sticking with it. You want to stick with it? Let's stick with it and keep going on the go-kart.
I guess so. And if it doesn't work, we can just start turning into a piece. Well, we can just start all over. I can do that if it doesn't work.
All right, okay, let's do it. We'll keep, we'll keep plugging away. I'm getting this footage to Dan. He's going to edit that. He's usually done in about 2 weeks. You, you can get that video of the podcast as soon as it drops on Abundance Plus. It's going to open your mind. It opened my mind up to a totally different culture, different experience. Guys running the head of a 115 person, company. A lot of good insights that you can apply to your life no matter where you are in your life, and a lot of good eye-opening info. I think it's going to be great. So Abundance Plus members, it's dropping, it's coming soon. And if you're not in there, I encourage you to get in there. There's a lot, there's a lot happening, this and so much more. So abundanceplus.com. And do I even need to leave the link in the description? Sure, I'll leave the link in the description.
