Strange She wanted to Weed on Mother’s Day, then it All made Sense

In this vlog‑style video, the family gathers on Mother’s Day to honor both the human mothers in the household and the animal mothers on their farm. Speaker A outlines a plan to relieve the mother in the house of chores, while the children prepare handmade cards and gifts. The day’s activities include milking cows, feeding and pampering the farm’s mama animals (hens, cows, and other livestock) with extra alfalfa and treats, and preparing a farm‑fresh breakfast featuring eggs, greens, tomatoes, and a quiche. The family also spends time weeding, harvesting squash, and discussing garden pests. Throughout, the participants share heartfelt reflections on the often‑overlooked work mothers do—shopping, caring for the family, and providing emotional support. The video blends informal, affectionate dialogue with practical farm work, showcasing a blend of gratitude, domestic labor, and homestead life.

It's Mother's Day, and I want to make this day special for the mothers on our farm, especially the mother in Zone Zero, the house. Got her in her room closed up, letting her do some self-care. Let's— why don't you do the chores this morning and I will clean up the house? Okay, and then we'll both milk together. Are you gonna stay with me and help me? What I'm thinking is let's relieve her of some of her normal duties as a thank you to her. The cleaning, the doing of the dishes, and then I was thinking I could have the kids make her something. Everybody's name? Okay, Mama, Papa, Jonah, Josiah, Lily, Gideon. Oh, and I could make the breakfast. I was about to milk and realized if I'm gonna make breakfast, I need to put the quiche on. Oh, hey there. Oh, you're looking beautiful. Is it not?
You guys did such a good job.
Oh good, I'm glad you care. Oh, what work you put in and keep the place clean.
Yay!
Greens from our land, eggs from our land, tomatoes, Rebecca. And you know, maybe that mozzarella will be—
oh look, it's not mozzarella. Somebody forgot to get those.
I'll eat one or 10.
I'll just throw them. I'm gonna throw them to the chickens. They've been sitting in there all night— all day.
What's the plan today, Becky, for your Mother's Day?
I'm not so sure. I'm gonna check the weather. I might work outside a little bit. But I might not. I might just work inside getting stuff organized.
Work outside or work inside? But what about the mama animals outside of the house, out in the zones 1 through 3? That we got a mama hen. This is an amazing mama of the farm. The mama hen totally— well, actually, none of those chickens are her blood relatives. She's adopted every single one of them. So what could we do special for her? For Mother's Day. Has this been moved recently? Yeah. Okay, so she's got fresh grass, she's got fresh food, plenty of clean water. I guess we just wish her well on this Mother's Day, huh? And we got, uh, some mama cows. Let's thank them too. Good morning, Mama Flossie. She don't want none of that pet, so, you know, I guess I'll end up giving you an egg an extra scoop of our pie. Here, a couple of extra. I want to thank you for being such a good mom to, uh, Bessie. You got a good mama, Bessie. Is there anything you'd like to say to your mom for Mother's Day?
Why?
Happy Mother's Day.
Why are you excited it's Mother's Day?
Because Dad's always You want to say something nice to your mom? Because a good mom is fun to be around.
Do you have something nice you would like to say to your mom?
She gets us all the stuff we need and helps us when we're sick.
Whoa!
Cool. I hear an underlying theme. Probably totally underrated that mom does do the shopping for us. I don't think I've bought my own pair, even my clothes. She bought every single thing I'm wearing.
Even this.
Even the camera case for my little camera.
You probably bought the camera.
I did buy the camera. That's it. Socks, underwear, everything. Thank you, the beautiful. Thank you to all you mothers for your— She even— I might have gotten a hat. Okay, she got most of the stuff, including my Watch. So thanks to all the mothers out there, you unsung heroes, for all you do. All the little stuff that goes unnoticed every day. Okay, all right, let's milk this cow. Did you guys cue her up? Did you guys give her her alfalfa? Okay, give her her alfalfa. That'll help her stand still. Can you guys think of anything special we could do for these mamas? This one, Mama, uh, Phyllis, uh, give her 2 extra scoops. All right, give her 2 extra scoops. I like it. So you get 7 pounds of alfalfa today, honey. Good job, Josiah. Thanks for milking.
2 extra scoops of apple cider too.
I like that this one's getting so comfortable around us. Yeah, she'll stay laying down. I wonder if she'll let me pet her. Good girl. All right, there you go, Mama. Plenty of stuff. I just let the cows out. They're in the close pasture. Oh, Josiah, they're gonna miss the gate. Well, maybe not. They're making it. Will you go close the gate though? I can do this for you if you like.
I don't mind it. I enjoy it.
That's the thing about what we do, right?
What, do we enjoy it?
We do enjoy this. It's like we're sort of living a life we don't need a vacation from.
They got really big all of a sudden.
Rebecca, what happened? Well, are these squash?
It says it on there. Yeah, they're spaghetti squash.
We're gonna transfer those tomorrow.
You think a cow came here?
Okay, there's this thing, but the kids said that was a grub. It is.
A cow cannot get in these raised beds. Yeah, it'll be hard.
You see it? Like, it looks like a hornworm. And if it was a rabbit, why wouldn't it have eaten all those other marigolds around here? But look, my pumpkins are coming up. I guess they could be really small still.
This is our mission. We're not gonna have time tonight because we're having a party tonight with the mothers in the family, so we're gonna need to do our— that's actually our evening weeding now. Boom! Saved a row of carrots. 50 feet of carrots. It took about altogether probably an hour. Means it's gonna be another hour on this one. This one's gonna be easier because it's Swiss chard. It's not planted so tight. You could maybe get in there with some tools. You certainly can in the middle. And once the plants get to a certain height, like these lettuces You don't got to worry about it because they've shaded out the weeds down here. These seeds got washed away and so they got too thin. I don't know if we've ever weeded in that. Folks often wonder what you're going to do with all that cream. That cultured cream. What are you gonna do?
I'm going to make— they're like, I like to call them like cheesecake bites, but they're not. They're just cultured cream and honey mixed together and then freeze it, and then for our dessert tonight, I'm going to heat up some applesauce, put that on it with some cinnamon, and it's like apple pie without the crust because I don't wanna— I don't want to make it. Lily, J— J-R-J-J-L-G. Love. She loves the right love.
She does. Wait, she gave you some money?
She did. She gave me some quarters. Dollar bills. Do I throw them into the dryer?
Who's this?
This is from Jonah. You're the best mama. I hope you have a good Mother's Day. Thank you, Jonah. To the best mama, we love you. I think it's from Lily again.
Yeah, it's got her name all over it. This is Gideon. This is what he wanted to write.
All right. Mama, Josiah, Grandma, Papa, Lily, Grandpa, Jonah, Gideon, Papa. Got a note in an envelope too. Happy Mother's Day, you're the best mom. To Mama from Josiah. I hope you have a good Mother's Day. You're the best mom. I love you, Mama. And then he taped a picture.
He had me print out a picture of our family.
Aww.
And he taped it on there. What's this? This one's from Gideon. Oh my gosh. There it is.
We've been looking for it everywhere.
Hey, why'd you get her a floss one?
Because this one is mine.
Yeah. A trophy.
World's best mom.
That's the theme.
World's best mom.
Yeah, I get some— I get a trophy.
Okay, so I heard your comment at your birthday about the unwrapped present, so— Oh, I made sure I wrapped it.
You made sure you wrapped it?
You had to pick it out and buy it since I, I purchased them.
Little pair of earrings. Real earrings? They are earrings.
Whoa, that tastes pretty.
It's weird to see myself with— I literally have not worn earrings I tried 2 years ago to wear earrings and they hurt, so I took them out and I was like, I'm not gonna wear earrings anymore. Then I was like, I'm gonna try again, so
