Surprising Her with a Bathroom Reno Prep!

The vlog captures a busy morning on a small family farm where the siblings juggle animal care, a cow named Flossie suffering from mastitis, and routine chores like feeding pigs and filming a vlog. After a challenging milking session, they discuss treatment steps, including warm water and iodine feed. Meanwhile, Rebecca wakes up feeling ill with heartburn and palpitations, takes an Epsom salt bath, and reads. The family secretly plans to surprise her by cleaning out and remodeling their bathroom, outlining the new layout—removing a wall, relocating washer/dryer, adding a shower‑tub combo, new tiles, and storage shelves. They coordinate boxes, laundry, and breakfast delivery while keeping the surprise hidden. The narrative blends farm responsibilities, health concerns, and home renovation logistics in an informal, supportive tone.

When I woke up this morning, I felt a, I don't know, mix between dread and hope.
Come here.
Are you just gonna go with that one? We're going now. Come put on a jacket. Come put your jacket on.
I will wear a jacket when we go out.
We're going now. You're gonna put it on yourself if you don't. Let me— okay, what I'm saying is I'm gonna help you with this before my hands get full, so you're gonna do it, okay?
I'm gonna do it myself.
Okay. I felt a dread because we've been dealing with mastitis in one of our family cows for quite a long time, and the way we left it last night is I couldn't even quite get it all out. There was so much blockage. A little part of me feels a hope because that blockage could be what you call her shedding. So her actually kicking off this in clumps, so that's maybe why she clogged. So hopefully this morning she'll milk. Yesterday I started early, just like today, milking, and it was, it was quite depressing because by the end of the milking it went from dusk to like bright morning. Hopefully that's not gonna happen today. Hey guys, hey, did you guys do the pigs?
Yeah.
Okay, well, how? I got all the scraps.
I fed them grain.
Oh, all right, I guess those will sit till tomorrow, but you gotta feed them tomorrow. All right, always— let's always feed scraps. All right, thanks guys. What are you doing?
Filming a vlog.
Okay, nice. The Rhodes Bros in the house. What's this one gonna be about?
Uh, uh Cat— sheep— chickens and pigs working together in a greenhouse.
Gonna get cleared up today.
It's a race against the sun.
Because that sure is discouraging to be out here— forever-ish. All right, 7:52. Let's do this. Crossing our fingers that she's not clogged. There's milk coming out. Oh my goodness. Ah, yeah, let's see if it keeps coming. Ah, it's starting to clog. Okay, here we go, doing this drill again. Holy cow, that was the third round and it went really good. It went for like 2, 1, 2 minutes. That's a big change. Let's hope that keep happening. Water on it. Warm water. How do you feel about round 1?
Good.
I didn't quite get it all out, but we still got to get the calf on to get more milk out of the other teats, and then we'll try to get all of it out of that.
Look, I can't even get her to nurse this dead. I couldn't even get her nurse to infect him. She's give up on it cuz it doesn't give real nice. She's so hungry, so maybe she will this morning. Hey, no, no, no, come on, don't give up. Keep trying, keep trying, keep trying.
All right, it's not bright outside, but it is an hour and 20 minutes later. I think though we have an overcast day, so I mean, that makes me feel a lot better. At least I don't feel like a lot of times time has elapsed. Here, let me show you something. Thankfully, the boys were able to go milk Flossie, and this is what they came back with. No, they do have a bucket of clean milk, but they said Flossie did— I didn't quite understand the story, but she did poop in the pail. Good news is I think I got it all out. She doesn't have a temperature. She's got solid poop. She's eating and drinking. Leads me to believe we've gotten the mastitis under control. We're just now dealing with shedding. Come on, let's go.
Come on, come on, come on.
Good morning. Good morning. How you feeling, Beck? Tell the truth. I'm okay.
I'm tired.
Rough night last night?
Yeah, I had heartburn and heart palpitations and The heartburn was the worst, I think.
Yeah, they keep you up?
Yeah, and then I have to sleep sitting kind of inclined, and I never sleep good sleeping inclined.
Did you get back to sleep this morning?
I did. I took a hot Epsom salt— hot— 100-degree Epsom salt bath because my midwife doesn't want me in anything hotter than that. I came back and I took a nap for 30 minutes. Pete's been getting woke me up. And I've been reading my book.
I tried to keep him out there.
It's okay.
Everybody, shh. Listen. We're getting the bathroom remodeled starting tomorrow.
Randolph's coming.
Want in on this secret, Petey? Mom was gonna clean out the bathroom today. But I don't think she's feeling very well. I know she's not feeling very well. I think we should sneak in there and get that bathroom cleaned out. Our bathroom? Yes, your bathroom. It's your bathroom after all.
What would we get out of there?
What do you guys think? Everything.
That's loose?
Like—
Everything that's loose.
The dryer?
We'll save it for last. We need to do some wash. I think she's on to us when we shut the door. Well, let's make her think that we're surprising her with a breakfast. We're looking at quite a bit of stuff we need to get out of here.
How about let's clean it? When we surprise her, Rebecca can give you the vision for this bathroom and we can kind of give you an idea of how bad it's gotten. All right, how many boxes did we get out of here? Like, finally, like 4 or 5 boxes.
Like, there's tons of stuff in here. Her bagel's ready. I'm gonna act like this is what we've been doing.
Surprise!
Is that my bagel?
Breakfast in bed.
Oh, thank you.
Where's everything going? Is there gonna be anything over there?
I don't think so.
Yes!
What's the answer, babe?
Let's finish real quick. She's not on it. She doesn't know.
There's gonna be a wall here? I don't know.
You'll have to ask her later.
I know what it's gonna look like.
What?
Washer and dryer are gonna be here. I think there's gonna be a wall here. Then Lily says there's gonna be a bath and tub here. The toilet stays there and— Power and our bed. And then there's— this is probably gonna be storage. Yeah. Probably gonna have shelves.
And then— and here— Oh! How was the surprise breakfast? It was perfect.
Mm-hmm.
And then broth too.
Yeah, made you some broth.
Thank you.
I got a creative lunch coming up.
Oh.
I wouldn't get too excited. It's just creative. I didn't say it's amazing. Um, are you going to be able to get up and do the bathroom today?
I know, I realized that you got to do that.
You got big chores ahead, honey.
I'm gonna need some boxes.
Okay, we'll get you your boxes and bags. Okay, what else?
Energy.
She, uh, she got dressed this far. You figured it out? Figured out how to get pants on? What about socks?
Well, I figured it out too, but it's just nice to have somebody help.
Oh yeah, it is nice.
Especially when they're standing there.
Come on, I know we're dreading it. Let's get it over with.
She's like, what in the world?
Maybe if you hustle, you could get it over, cleaned out before lunch.
I need to do the laundry because we're gonna not have a washer and dryer.
Laundry needs to be going all day. Come, give us a tour of this place. Tell us your plan.
Oh wow, you guys already did it! I know, we wanted to surprise you!
Surprise! Awesome! Everything's out of here.
That's amazing.
But the wash.
But a few things are still in there.
And those paper towels.
You were pretty sure of what you wanted to throw away, weren't you?
You know, I didn't throw away a whole lot, so you might have to go through it. Look at this crooked— tell me what's wrong with this. Tell me what's wrong with this. Bathroom and then where you're going with it.
Well, Teddy, down.
Sit.
Thank you. Um, while we've used it up, worn it out, made it do, we made it do, and now we're in a remodel again.
Now it's not very nice.
Okay, so you know, this is my favorite feature. This looks like some lady with a bun. That's your favorite? A hair bun. Or is it this? Well, where the kids have got a, got a foothold and keep scratching it out.
These, I, I put these on 20 years ago.
Yeah, and they just been going, and they fell off a long time ago.
Yeah, I can't believe you guys surprised me.
Okay, you really didn't know?
No, I didn't know.
Oh my gosh, so much noise.
So the vanity is gonna go here. So this, this wall will be gone, and the shower of course will be gone, and we're doing new floor tiles, and there'll be a vanity here. This wall is gonna stay here, and it will go across. So the washer and dryer are leaving, and they're actually— I got a different set of washer and dryers because I'm done with the front load. And so the top-loaded will go over here, and then over here in this space, I'm gonna have a laundry sink and it's gonna be just all shelves. Shelves like for everything. For paper towels, for toilet paper, for everything that we need for the bathroom, and then over here Cause see, the wall will go across here, so it'll be like this. So in this space it will be, um, a shower tub combo. I already bought the tub for it and it'll just have tile surround. And then here will be a, um, a, like a shelving unit built in, in here. And there'll be tile. I'm tiling. Well, and we're hoping we can get a bigger window in here. Bigger this way, but maybe if we can't go bigger this way, then we'll go bigger down, and then it's gonna— there's gonna be tile all the way to the bottom of the sink around the entire bathroom because it's just much easier to deal with.
And Randolph's still scheduled for tomorrow?
Randolph is coming tomorrow.
We got to keep these laundries going.
Yes.
All right. I can't believe you said that. Yeah, now you can relax for the rest of the day. For lunch, all I did was take our short ribs, cut them up, and cook, cook them in some beef broth for some soup. Here we are once again. This time, a new trick from Josh, the guy that we got these cows from— some iodine in her feed. I'm gonna go 1 tablespoon. You can go up to 2, but let's just go easy on her at first. How is it?
It's pretty bad. I almost pressured it out twice, but she went—
We haven't even gotten the hot water on yet. What'd I get, 4 or 5?
